While excellent online resources make any printed, non-free guide to Latex such as this book quite obsolete, I must say that it was through this book that I first came to grips with Latex. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a one stop reference for Latex. It will help you up through your Latex infancy and prove a worthy companion as your expertise grows.

I was a programmer writing papers in college and wanting to use my Linux machine for everything, so I learned LaTeX -- the results were always beautifully typeset, and this book taught me everything I needed to know. The print copy of my resume is still done in LaTeX.

This book is a must have for anybody who does LaTeX type setting for any purpose. While most (all?) of the information is available online, having it all in one compact and mobile tome is worth every penny this book costs.

I can't help myself: I find I refer back to this book constantly. It covers nearly everything I've needed, very succinctly, with great examples. I can't help myself: I find I refer back to this book constantly. It covers nearly everything I've needed, very succinctly, with great examples.

This book provides good, broad coverage of the features available in LaTeX. It can answer most of the questions that occur on a day-to-day basis when using LaTeX.

Good as a reference, not for learning.

I can never find a damn thing in this book. I know precious little more LaTeX, it feels, having read it than I did before.
