A great book to talk about colors with kids. I liked how the pages formed a rainbow at the end. Using for my first storytime on Saturday.

Duckie is so cute! Every page reveals a new color until a rainbow is formed. I had some preschool teachers exclaim in delight over this book after I read it to their class.

This is a fantastic book for younger kids, especially if they're learning about colors! It's simple, but there's an engaging narrative. This is a fantastic book for younger kids, especially if they're learning about colors! It's simple, but there's an engaging narrative.

Comments on the Story: I think that the story could be useful for teaching about colors because each color is vividly portrayed on each page. Moreover, it introduces the concept that the rain plus the sun produce a rainbow. But, I think that the author could have been more creative in describing where Duckie went that represented different colors. She hopped under the orange bridge? I’ve not seen many orange bridges? Could she not have surfed on an orange peel or something else more creative than Comments on the Story: I think that the story could be useful for teaching about colors because each color is vividly portrayed on each page. Recommended Uses for the Book: This might be useful in a library to talk about colors and rainbows. Because the overall picture of the rainbow growing is big enough for most children to see, they could get actively involved in this part of the book. You could ask for example, what color is going to come next? What do you think is growing at the top of the page? What does it take to make a rainbow? Or you could ask them on each page which color is this? This book might also be fun to read at home, particularly with younger children.

We got this at the library to help teach colors and my 17-month old asked for "Duckie" all day long. The pages are different heights so that as you turn each page from red to orange to yellow etc., it builds a rainbow. It's designed for the very young because there are not a lot of words, the focus in on the colors. We loved it. Duckie's colorful story ends in a rainbow. Artwork adds a shade of the rainbow after each activity Duckie completes and the final two page spread rewards the reader with a vibrant rainbow. A good read aloud, especially for a color storytime. Duckie's colorful story ends in a rainbow. Beautiful book that teaches children their colors! The way the book is shaped allows children to see the rainbow forming as each page is turned. I've used it for class visits, themes on colors, rainbows, and most recently, a ducks- and rain-themed bilingual story time program. Beautiful book that teaches children their colors! On her way home, Duckie walks by many vivid colors (she walks by a red poppy field, hops under an orange bridge, waddles past a yellow cornfield, etc) that culminate into a bright rainbow at the end of the book. Very cute concept book--great read-aloud for toddlers & preschool children.

Writing is lacking, but the effect of the layers of color that end up creating the rainbow, in the end, makes up for it.
