Mind Map is a tool that reflect the natural creativity and radiance of our thinking processes. And its a simple and very concise book, that teaches how to make mind maps. A mind map is an organizational thinking tool, and is the easiest way to put information into your brain and to take information out of your brain. It's a creative and effective means of note-taking that literally maps out your thoughts. In a sense mind map is like a road map: * It gives you a overview of a large subject or area. * Enable you to plan routes or to make choices, and will let you know where you are going and where you have been. * Gather together large amounts of data in one place. * It helps you to concentrate, communicate, study, and remember much better. Author has given 7 easy steps for how to make efficient mind maps. And then he goes on saying why mind mapping is much much better than taking linear notes. And its my personal opinion that at this time, when the world is overloaded with information, mind map will be the revolutionary substitute, to make learning more easier, natural, and enjoyable. Recommended!

Came across this in week 2 of Jim Kwik's Superbrain quest. Can't wait to try this method out! As for the book, you could learn the method in the first 2 chapters. The rest are more guidelines, which while being incredibly helpful, warrenty at all necessary. Came across this in week 2 of Jim Kwik's Superbrain quest. Can't wait to try this method out! I had already read a good deal about mind maps, so the concept wasn't new to me. I read it because I have been "raised" with concept maps (ideas in bubbles, with verbs, or links between them, lookup CMAP for details) and I was wondering how Buzan treated complex subjects without those links. Actually, there aren't links. The mind map is supposed to flow "by itself", with the help of the colors and the pictures only. I'm not sure I'm entirely convinced, but some examples, especially about scheduling, taking notes for phone calls, shopping, and life planning were pretty good. Mind maps have the advantage over concept maps, computer-wise, that they easier to generate and that they can be easily converted to outlines. Actually, most of the comments Buzan makes on taking notes about the chronological aspect of taking notes in the "classical way" are pretty much wrong with the use of outlining software. Mind maps, on paper, do have the advantage of providing the "big picture" of the discussion, problem, or idea. Anyway, a quick and cheap intro to mind maps, although it doesn't provide much more than what you can already find online.

my rating is a 3.5 not a 4. As the title clearly says this book is on mind maps. mind maps are the natural way of connecting and associating things. inspired by the greeks the author clearly shows you what are mind maps , benefits of mind maps and how you can use mind maps in about everything. It is a quick read (100 pgs) but then again it could be distilled in ten pages with details and examples. -------------------------------spoiler ----- alert -------------------------------- SUMMARY:- There my rating is a 3.5 not a 4. Great thinkers like Leonardo Da Vinci used pictures, codes and connecting lines in their notes.Mind maps are the ultimate organizational thinking tool. Each mind map has a central image from which branches emanate relating to different things. They all use different colours, lines, symbols , words and images. Making a long list of boring information into a colourful, memorable , highly organized diagram according to your brain's natural way of working which is far easier and more reliable than traditional note-taking techniques. Making a Mind Map:- Starting in the centre of a blank page use an image or picture of your central idea. Use different colors to make it exciting for the brain. Connect your main branches to the central image and connect your second and third level branches to the first and second levels there by associating. Make your branches curved rather than straight lined making it more attractive to your mind. Use one key word per line providing more power and flexibility to the mind like a multiplier of associations and connections. Use images throughout as it is worth a thousand words. How to reduce a book to a single page mind map scan through main divisions and chapter headings which will give you the main branches of your mind map. For novels all have a number of major components. plot - the structure of events characters - their type and development setting - the places and times where the events of the novel take place language - its general level, the type of vocabulary and its rhythm imagery - the kind of images the author provides for your imagination themes - the kind of ideas with which the novel deals, including such common themes as love ,power, money, religion, etc symbolism - where the author substitutes one thing to mean another - for example flowers for love, thunderstorms for anger, calm seas for peace. etc philosophy - some books present a point of view in order to challenge the way we think genre - novels can be categorized under different headings, for instance, political, adventure, mystery, detective, historical, etc "Imagination is more important than knowledge" - Albert Einstein Creating your ideal future mind map Imagine that you have limitless time resources and energy and that you can do anything you wish for all eternity.Develop a mind map for your ideal future including all those things you have dreamed of doing at any stage of your life. I wish I was shown this concept as a child. A great simple tool that breaks away from the less create rigidity that a pattern of straight lines creates within ones mind and how the mind simply does not think in that nature most often. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. The book is actually a huge article that honestly could have being written in maximum 10 pages. He extend so much in words that one feels lost and diluted on the real purpose of the tool he is trying to demonstrate. Jump to 4,5 chapters if you wanna know how to proceed.

Working memory has the highest correlation with intelligence. No mind maps, mnemonics can ever replace that. Buzan uses too many pseudo-scientific arguments to drive the point. 80% improvement in an experiment, humans use xyz percentage of brain and all the non-scientific gibberish. He reminds me of magicians who promise to cure cancer with a certain exercise, food and so on. I respect Buzan for his contribution to memory and note taking, but he should probably withhold himself from making unscientific claims (or quoting some ghost papers with no credibility). The examples covered in the book were good.

You don’t expect me to be reading this book now. You are correct. I should not have read it now. So, Don’t buy or read ‘HOW TO MIND MAP’ by Tony Buzan. Definitely, if you have experimented with MIND MAPPING or LADDERING before. Tony patented/registered/trademarked or whatever the word MIND MAP- for a visual aided summarisation of thoughts idea and then built an empire around it. Nothing wrong in it. And if you have not been introduced to Mind Map before, then this book is a decent investment. Inst You don’t expect me to be reading this book now. You are correct. I should not have read it now. An interesting book on planning and organizing yourself. I particularly liked the way Tony Buzan presents the idea of using right brain and left brain through mind mapping practice. I could appreciate the immense utility of putting the idea on paper not just like a list but with a mind map which compels us to think creatively and get the most optimum picture when we try fully. overall, a great pocket guide!!..

To be honest, this book is a bit dry for me; it indeed required me some effort to force myself to focus and keep reading. Still, the author has well introduced the function and benefit of mind map to our life. There are 8 very good and beautiful examples that well illustrated the functions of mind map. Basically, for me, mind map is a tool that stimulate your brain to think more and record down the process of your thinking. However, bear this in mind that do not expect you will know how to draw a fine mind map (just like the 8 examples given) automatically once you have finished this book; you will never ever know how to draw your own mind map until you pick up your pen and follow the instructions which given by the author. Practice makes perfect; it is still possible for us to draw a fine mind map like the 8 examples given in the book if we keep on drawing our own mind map and utilize it for our daily plans.

This is an excellent starter book for the concept of mind mapping. The book is short and to the point to give you a direction to look into mind mapping. A few more exercises or suggested exercises would have been better bit it is a small book. As well showing the building of a mind map peice by peice would have been nice too. I also don't know why the idea of key words isn't more fleshed out. I would have liked to see more emphasis here. Reading this book will give you another method of study, a practical one. I read it, before I enter my college, and I decide it that I will use mind map as my note, not just the usual note (which consist of words and words...and words!) It's not just suitable for college students, even junior/senior high school students can try it. It is more energizing to see full-color note than the black-or-white note. Yes, we have all been taught to use it somewhere. But I am not using it on a regular basis. So, I picked it up at Crossword today and flipped through it. It doesn't take more than an hour to read this. Reading it was just another reminder for me to organize things in a better way. So far I am relying on notes . I need to try this and check the effect.
