Another lost book I found on my shelf and not one I would normally read. Terrible rating but I think this is because it's synopsis said "chilling psychological mystery". It is set in an English sea side village. The big old manor house overlooking the beach has been converted into an English speaking school for European & Scandinavian business men. Terrible rating but I think this is because it's synopsis said "chilling psychological mystery". It is set in an English sea side village. The big old manor house overlooking the beach has been converted into an English speaking school for European & Scandinavian business men. Part of the grounds had been made into a little street on which 4 bungalows had been built. One owned by a married couple, in 2 others there lived single moms with there sons. All women from these bungalows worked as teachers in the school. The fourth was owned by a spinster. She was a retired nanny and one of her charges now a young lady of 21 called Pandora, came to stay with her. Pandora had many emotional scars. She started a friendship with the married man and as their relationship developed her traumatic experiences were overcome. So much so, she could now work again and took up a part-time secretarial job at the school. The old house did have a dark secret and only when Pandora was face to face with it did the drama start and this was literally 15 pages from the end of the book. I enjoyed reading about how the four families intergrated with one another and the school and the author did a great job in bringing Pandora's past problems to the surface throughout the book. It was certainly not a chilling thriller, but I found it very interesting.
