This story hooked me right away--a man and wife just had a baby but it's not their first; in fact, they've had seven and every one died of crib death. Curiously too much of a coincidence for me. She watches the neighbor kids play outside from her window because she is never allowed outside--the sun could cause her to freckle which would render her flawed, imperfect, and apparently imperfect This story hooked me right away--a man and wife just had a baby but it's not their first; in fact, they've had seven and every one died of crib death. The question lingered for me though: why? This story was fun. It was a little predictable but there were also a couple of twists. It covered a wide range: sci-fi, suspenseful thriller, a bit of horror, and budding romance. There were a couple minor plot holes and redundancies but hopefully they were fixed before publication.

*Netgalley EBook This was a really fun dystopian novel. The 1st in a series of 3. I’m really looking forward to reading the other books in the series. It’s a story of abuse, betrayal and friendship. A bunch of cash flowing into a company called Genesis so they can play with DNA to make “perfect” children. What could go wrong? The thing is, originally Genesis seemed to have good intentions…or at least some of the participants did. Some of the donors and participants lost children due to terrible diseases so they wanted to figure out how to ensure future children didn’t have those issues. Sounds like a good plan…or maybe not. Juliet (the OG perfect child) and Julie Eight were held captive, as if they were lab rats. Genesis can’t allow their perfect creations to get away, because they have bigger plans for them. When the girls escape chaos ensures and the nightmare goes from bad to worse. This book will immediately draw you in. Buckle up, you’re in for a wild ride.

Perfect is about a girl named Juliet who is locked in her house with her parents to ensure that she doesn't get sick, scrapes, bruises, or any other illness - in other words, be perfect. Why? Because her parents kill their children if they aren't perfect. Now, as Juliet approaches her 18th birthday, she learns she will be preserved in her perfect state. I really liked Juliet as a character and it was fresh to see what we take for granted that was all new to her. This book was about clones, technology, secret organizations, and conspiracies. This book was overall really good. Its not a book that I would normally choose because of the sci fi element but it was a great balance of both mystery and sci fi. Perfect is the first book in a series and the way this one ended? I cannot wait for the next one to come out!

I had requested this book via NetGalley and would like to firstly give them a shoutout and a thank you! This is the first book I have read by L.A. Kessler and it was an interesting one! So much so, Juliet wears gloves and fuzzy socks in the home to protect her hands and feet from anything that would deem her tainted by the world. Juliet has never been outside, nor has her younger sister Julie-Eight. It is from here that we are thrown into the whirlwind that is their lives. I found this book really interesting and the idea of perfection and maintaining that perfection at all costs really intrigued me. Imagine every time you cut your finger or grazed your knee you were deemed tainted and so had to face consequences? Baffling right? I was reluctant to give this book more than 4 stars due to some things I found quite hard to grasp. If you had been in captivity your entire life and unknowingly emotionally and mentally abused, would you trust the first person you saw? Also I found the love interest very predictable and unbelievable. The love story was a fast burning flame and I just don’t think in real life (I understand this is fictional) someone in this position could fall for someone so quickly. Everyone is far too trusting and willing to risk everything. It had the premise to be such a scary and thrilling book but was more YA romance with a little darkness thrown into it. That’s not a bad thing! Just no what I was expecting.

What happens if the scientist decides to test if the perfect ones healing completely and faster? What kind of abuse will they endure? Not in this book but could it be in next? Like I said this borders on horror but could easily move more in that direction. Start reading today, you won’t be able to put it down or close your eyes either. A thriller with heavy sci-fi elements and some romance! This is book one in a trilogy. There are some trigger warnings that should be noted. There is child abuse and infant deaths. There is romance, but nothing explicit. There oddly wasn’t a lot described about the science portion of the story so that left me wondering. For people who don’t like cliffhangers, this was mild without the epilogue. The epilogue is where the cliff really…hangs. Skip it if you don’t like big ones.

I absolutely loved the concept but I wasn't sold on the content. It felt dragged out, repetitive and too young for me - while at the same time making me cringe at some of the adult things the teenagers did. I won't discourage anyone from reading this book though. It just was not for me personally. I absolutely loved the concept but I wasn't sold on the content. Wow! An amazing, gripping, first installment to the Genesis Trilogy by L. A. Kessler. A Sci-Fi Medical Thriller romance! I appreciated that the book starts by introducing us to the main characters, Juliet and Billy, in their childhood. Not sure if intentional or not but I love how books, reading, enlightens the heroine to a world outside her window, connects her to the world she watches beyond it, and makes her desire to be a part of it, expand her understanding. Then the discovery within her own walls the discovery about her and her “sister’s” own existence, forces her to act beyond wishful... determined to do all she needs to free them, keep them safe. A bond the event from childhood gives them, gives the hero a starting place to understand and believe Juliet’s story. The bond of long-lasting friendships gives Billy the support and ability to act and for them to help her. Wondering who to trust as the layers of the secret Genesis Foundation are pealed away. Heroes are made. Horrifying “ends justify the means” villains are determined to cover their tracks, protect their research, reacquire their “property” and guarantee their investment, hide secrets. But at times you are never truly sure who is who. There are revelations of what causes someone to protect another human, to recognize humanity and what causes others to turn their back on it, makes them deny someone’s humanity. The discoveries revealed the action and events in this amazing spine-tingling plotline had me turning pages, refusing the bookmark. This book was so good. It's not my usual genre but the description really piqued my interest and I'm glad I went for it. The sisterly love between Juliet and Julia-Eight is beautiful and protective. I loved Juliet and Billy's relationship too and the fierceness at which he wanted to help and protect her. The innocence but passion to their relationship was the softness this book needed. As I was reading, I didn't know who could be trusted and I devoured this book in the space of a day. First book in a new trilogy. Juliet has never seen the outside world except through her upstairs window. “I’ve dreamed of this day forever, but in my dreams, I was happy and free. Right now, all I feel is…lost and afraid.” A secret foundation, government cover up and two innocent lives. Nowhere is safe. Creepy , intense , edge of your seat can’t put it down. Can you tell I loved this story?? I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next installment.

So she breaks free and runs into Bill Manning, a boy who she happened to meet years ago for just minutes. What follows is action packed as bullets start flying, people start running, and hackers start hacking. It's twist after twist and revelation after revelation. There are other authors this would massacre this book but what sets this one apart is character development and pacing. L.A. Kessler nails this book. I loved every character here and each one had a distinct personality. We love Juliet and her "cloned" sister, Bill Manning, and his friends Todd, Zack, and Cindy who are all helping them survive. Action packed but with characters you are rooting for so much at the end that you are literally hanging on by a threat. This is just great suspenseful fiction and I plowed through it in a day. It's so over the top but I really can't find anything other then that to take away points for. The writing and dialogue is top notch...... The character development is great, and the action was on par with any other book out there. And the ending to set up book 2...... Bonkers! So if you are looking to clear you mind, suspend all belief, and just go on a ride read this book. Book given free for honest review.

𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩 by L.A. Kessler kept me on the edge of my seat. It follows Juliet through her life of perfection - she’s never had a cold, a scrape or a bruise. She was made to be perfect. And she was kept inside her house to ensure she stayed that way. Juliet’s researcher parents have been striving to create the “perfect” child so no parent would ever have to lose their baby again. Juliet is that child. Her parents have achieved what was once thought impossible through cloning. Now, as Juliet approaches 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩 by L.A. Kessler kept me on the edge of my seat. A testament to all of the hard work her parents put into her creation. But Juliet wants more - she wants a life, and she can’t stop thinking about the boy across the street she met on her ninth birthday. Juliet was an easy character to grow to like. Her childhood was traumatic and dark, and unrealistic expectations were her normal. She knew the fine line she walked - if she had so much as a stuffy nose she wouldn’t live to see the next day. Just before her 18th birthday she finds an opportunity to escape and takes it. This story was filled with conspiracy, cloning, secret organizations and scientific experiments and truly keeps the suspense building. You never knew what the next moment held for Juliet after her escape, and the ending? An incredible surprise and cliffhanger! I had no idea this book was the first of a series, and while this typically isn’t a read I would go for, I’m looking forward to how the story continues.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Tied together by a stolen kiss years ago, Billy and Juliet cross paths again, this time in the wake of a daring escape from the mortal dangers of medical experimentation. With the help of childhood friends, Billy is tasked with keeping Juliet and her sister, Julie-Eight, safe from the underground Genesis group that has been holding the girls hostage their entire lives. Nobody can be trusted and nobody is safe from this group Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Nobody can be trusted and nobody is safe from this group that is bigger than the kids can imagine. This is an interesting concept. Some of the events don't quite translate well to reality, but if you're able to suspend a little bit of belief it's still an entertaining read. It blends sci-fi and thriller fairly seamlessly. I do kinda worry about the story jumping the shark with some revelations about government investigative groups and advanced technology near the end of the book, but I will have to read on to find out. I have a feeling the scope of the conspiracy will only escalate as the series continues. This story ends on quite the cliffhanger, so I'm curious to see where it goes.

3.5 Stars Overall I enjoyed reading this book. The story was a fun, fast-paced sci-fi thriller. The story was suspenseful, and horrifying. Cloning, experiments, murder and conspiracy definitely keep the plot interesting and it's easy to fly through this book. It does escalate quite quickly and may be a bit unbelievable at times, but overall the story was fun. Perfect kind of read like a Young Adult novel to me, although I guess you would call it New Adult since the main characters were 18-19. But 3.5 Stars Overall I enjoyed reading this book. I didn't really care for the romance, it felt very rushed and unbelievable to me, with a lack of chemistry. I also felt like parts of the story were a bit rushed. I also think the characters could have used a little more depth. It may not be a perfect novel (pun intended hehe), but it was definitely a fun, fast-paced ride! Calling all fans of "Stranger Things," this is a book for you! "Perfect" is the story of a girl, Juliet, who is locked in a house for her entire childhood so she can never get a scrape, a bruise, or sick. Why? Because her parents kill their children if they aren't perfect. As Juliet becomes older, she begins to realize that there is more going on than living with overprotective parents. She longs for a life outside and starts to investigate what is really happening in her home. This story involve Calling all fans of "Stranger Things," this is a book for you! Definitely a compelling and well thought out read. The idea of the perfect child was a great start for a thriller that's verging on horror. I did enjoy it and was definitely rooting for the main three characters. Tone wise, Misery came to mind a lot while reading it. It was a bit rushed at times and all considered, I think it could have gone in on the emotional depth more. I was eager to find out what happened but I never quite got to that anticipation-fear that comes from really caring about ch Definitely a compelling and well thought out read. It held my attention completely due to the great writing of this author. I wouldn’t refer to this book as a thriller more suspense, sci-fi(ish) to me as it focuses on cloning. It all seemed a little far fetched and escalated so quickly it went a little too far left field for me but like I said it did hold my attention and I wanted to see what in the world was going to happen next. As much as the story line isn’t exactly what I love I did enjoy the book. Gotta hand it to the author and her skills It held my attention completely due to the great writing of this author.
