HIGHLIGHTS: 1. High-five yourself in the mirror. Deliberately cheer yourself forward. 2. Action proves your new belief is true. - Turn jealousy into inspiration. 4. Guilt makes you feel uncomfortable, so you cave because you are afraid of the fallout. - Guilt contracts and love expands. - Stop feeling guilty. Start feeling appreciative. - Destructive guilt will compel you to keep apologizing, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” - Say “thank you” to the person who helped fulfill your needs. 5. Write down the signs and coincidences that you are on the right path. Keep a log. - Play a game with yourself that the universe is giving you clues that you are making progress on the thing that you really want. - The game is showing up. The game is hearing no and you keep moving forward. - The greatest risk is doing nothing, not failure. 6. Honor what you think about you more than what other people think about you. - You hear your own critic inside other people’s minds. - Lose the weight of everyone else’s opinions about your life. - Your need for approval and to fit in is dominating your life. Put yourself first. - Motivation isn’t there when you need it. 7. Moments of sudden change always draw a line in the sand. There is a “before” and an “after.” - Mantra: “I’m okay. I’m safe. I’m loved.” (With hand on heart). 8. Put Yourself First: A High-five morning puts your needs first. Wake up with the first alarm. 5-4-3-2-1 get up. Put hand on heart + mantra. High five self in mirror. Make your bed. Plan the night before and what you need. 9. RAS (part of brain): decides what information gets into the conscious brain and what gets filtered out. - Four things that can always come through: sound of your name, any threat to safety, partner is interested in having sex with you or someone else, and whatever you tell your brain is important to you. - Your brain is designed to help you get what you want. - Your brain will help you filter in real-time. 10. Create the feelings you want in life. Give it to yourself. - Be in congruence with action and the promises you make yourself.

I've been a fan of Mel Robbins ever since I got the "5 Second Rule" audiobook a few years ago. I've heard all of her books but I haven't followed her podcast. I saw one of her TV Shows, I think it was the first one, I really can't stand TV (in general,) but I love her books. So I pre-ordered this one months ago, and it finally came out and I'm glad I was between books so I can take it on right away. I love the chapters on jealousy and guilt are really well done and chapter 14 was just AWESOME! S I've been a fan of Mel Robbins ever since I got the "5 Second Rule" audiobook a few years ago. Overall the book provides great advice mainly for being kind to yourself. Self care & love cannot be expressed enough, and she nails it and makes it very actionable! She is very entertaining with her f-bombs in the audiobook, a little tamer in the Kindle version :-) I will try high 5'ing myself in the mirror and see how it goes!

At times simple & sweet, at others neurotic and anxiety-provoking. The author is at her best when directing other people (there is a particularly effective example of her speaking to an Uber driver who wants to move to Hollywood and forcing himself to set a deadline of three weeks) and at her worst when talking about own life experience, which I found uncomfortably highly-strung, self-obsessed, and stress-inducing - unfortunately, this made up 90% of the book.

I love the simplicity of this book. Wake up. Make your bed. Ignore your phone. Go outside. Set an intention. Brush your teeth. Give yourself a high 5 in the mirror. Tell yourself how fabulous and fearless your are. Then go kick some major ass throughout the rest of your day and accomplish more of what you want out of life.

I started this on Friday, October 1st and finished it on Monday, October 4th. I started the High 5 Habit the same day, on Friday. The next day, seriously, I started smiling at myself in the mirror. On Sunday, I'm looking at myself, giving myself a High 5 and giggling. It's like a heaviness has been lifted from my soul. The concepts are simple, but the impact is profound. I highly recommend you invest in yourself and start the High 5 Habit. It's a gift you won't regret. Full of Elephants that we always ignored I enjoyed this book so much, first Mel has the ultimate respect from me and I was and will be all the time a fan. This book addressed a lot of the elephants that we tend to ignore in our daily life and she just put them right in front of us. Iam a podcaster in the Middle East and she inspired me to go deeper and explore more in the direction of putting ourselves first before anyone else. I have been a fan of Mel Robbins work for quite a while now. This is a great book. It takes some getting used to high 5ing yourself in the mirror, however it becomes easier over time and is an amazing boost to your self confidence and self belief. We should congratulate and support ourselves like we would do our loved ones and friends. A highly motivating and inspiring book.

It’s so simple. It’s so easy. But is it really that easy? Is it really that simple? Could it really work? Well I’m going to give it a try and do the challenge. What do I have to lose? I love the morning routine!! Going to put that into practice for sure!!

The High 5 Habit: Take Control of Your Life With One Simple Habit by Mel Robbins – This book changed how I look at my thoughts, especially my negative thoughts. Mel’s charisma, wisdom, and palpable desire to inspire and motivate each and every one of us to take action on the life of our dreams is evident in the words on these pages (or in my case in Mel’s voice in my ears). In one of the final chapters of the audio version Mel tears up sharing a story about the attainment of one of her long-held dreams. I teared up with her--there is so much hope in seeing long-held dreams realized. I can’t recommend this book enough, and especially the audio version. I'm adding this one to my personal All-Time Favorite Books list.

High five stars…. So often self help books tell you a lot, but not how to make it happen, not this or her other book the 5 second rule, full of real practical tools, that oh my god freaking work!…. I have never in my life read a book in one day, so wow and spoke straight to my soul….. like we were having a one to one session…. Amazing, thank you so much Mel xxxx. The book would be a lot shorter if it stopped advertising itself(we get it and we've already bought it). I can't say the habit doesn't work but it's suprising a whole book can come out if it. But what can you expect from a book about self congratulating? Some touching stories and wishful thinking through the lense of confirmation bias. 'It worked for me, so it will work for you'. I'd be interested in seeing brain scans to see the structural changes high5 can do for your brain. Saying that I'm still going to try the high5 habit for myself.

This is my first book of Mel Robbins. Of course I heard of 5 Second Rule ,but haven't read it yet. I listened to Mel recently on Boss Babe podcast, and LOVED her rawness and realness. I have avidly adapted the habit, hand over heart, and completed the Growth Day Challenge. 0 The book adapts from the inside out, is practical, and integrates evidence as well - I bawled like a baby with the story of the painting at the end adapting it to every and This is my first book of Mel Robbins. I love Mel Robbins, she has a lot of amazing insight and a way of making you feel seen, heard and supported. I love that The High 5 Habit is backed by science. My only downvote is the fact that she spoke of a psychic as if they are real. They are scammers. In a book that is supposed to be all about facts and truth and science, why put that in there? A little surprised. Otherwise, I think this book holds a lot of worth and can be really helpful!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Really enjoyed listening to the book while I took a road trip. Felt like she was seating right beside me. The high five to the heart, helped me calmed down as I was frantically wanted to get back home to finish some work that was pending. I really enjoyed the painting story and of course started to cry right before she did. Amazing how art really touch us. Really recommend it. Love yourself and build yourself. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. High 5 to you!

I'm British so I'm not sure high fives are part of who I am, but I do like the idea of celebrating yourself and treating yourself like you matter. It's quite a simplified anecdotal book so if you're looking for something with steps this isn't really it. The book also has a kind of "I can do it so can you" theme running the whole way through. For me that's not enough. Must read I don't recommend many books, however, this one deserves 2 thumbs up. 👍👍 This book provides many great ways to get your thoughts, ideas, dreams, or goals back on track. Do I agree with everything, .no but we have to think for ourselves as Mel so nicely puts in her writing. Read this, step out of your comfort zone and give yourself a high 5! Mel did it again! Just what I needed at just the right time. I love how Mel doesn’t just give pep talks, but she comes at me with the science behind why these techniques work. It’s all actionable, simple, and can be implemented TODAY. No time to just read and move on without implementing because it’s all so simple! I am a Mel Robbins lifer. She is the best for personal development because she is REAL. ❤️

I’m a long time fan of Mel Robbins, but she really outdid herself this time. She is my favorite of all the motivational speakers. She is real, honest, genuine, and relatable. I truly believe she cares about her audience, and this book had me laughing, crying, believing in myself, and yes, high-fiving myself in the mirror. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would!

I listened to the audio version first, and kept learning new concepts about how to be kind to ME that I wanted to read, ponder and journal. Then my book arrived and I began on page 1 with a highlighter in hand. This time I’m spending a full day on each chapter and thoroughly digesting these simple words that I’ve never accepted in my life.

I listened to this on Audible and it felt like Mel was my personal life coach. There are some very doable practices that I’ve already been incorporating into my day to day and it sounded kind of silly but they have actually helped! I’ll probably buy the book to highlight all the many words of wisdom that I won’t remember simply from listening.

I started this book thinking that it was just going to be smother self help book that I would read but not do anything with. I was wrong. Mel made this material so relatable and doable - simple and fun. Just what I needed to hear at this time in my life.

It was fine. Largely a very-quickly-explained recommendation spun into something larger, and what felt like some additional notes from the author delivered in a kind of stream of consciousness. Easily digestible for those who haven't read a lot of self-help; simplistic for veterans of the genre. It was fine. Another great book by Mel Robbins ✨ Basically tells you to have a high 5 attitude towards yourself in order to help you achieve your goals among other things. Helps you reflect on self encouragement. An entertaining read as well as a lot of good advice I will return to.

So when things don't go our way, remember these 3 possible answers: it's not for you, it isn't the right time, and there is something better meant for you! I always enjoy listening to Mel's books on Audible on my drive to work. She's so relatable and gives you practical and feasible ideas and steps to keep encouraging and celebrating yourself even when life gets tough, as it inevitably does.
