When Destiny Calls is a very entertaining story, starting with Chloe in 2020 Australia working at a nursing home and continuing to the same Chloe mystically sent back to 1940s London. I became invested in this group of friends and their lives from the opening pages. Since the tale is told from Chloe’s perspective, we don’t get a look at what happens after she disappears during a mugging in 2020. However, there is enough action as she learns to adjust to life during the London Blitz of WW2. All the essential characters are fully fleshed out, and the details are superb. I recommend this time-travel, historical fiction saga to all lovers of great fiction. I received a copy of the book for a book blog tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion, which first appeared on ginaraemitchell.com.

Chloe’s trip back to the World War II era changes her life dramatically. She’s a young woman living in Australia in modern-day times. Her work with the elderly had gained her some friends with stories that draw her in. One day, she is mugged and suffers a head injury. She wakes up in England, found by a man and his dog. Chloe discovers her predicament and wonders if it would be wise to tell those around her the truth of her origins. Chloe discovers her predicament and wonders if it would be wise to tell those around her the truth of her origins. A kind-hearted family takes her in while London is being bombed by the enemy. Chloe lives with them in a shelter, knowing the war will go on for years. Reading about her day-to-day living through this difficult time is like recalling a grandparent’s account of their youth. It’s fascinating and personal. The author really takes the time to develop the setting, not forgetting to build complex characters and events that are touching. Chloe falls in love with Bill. She tries to tell him the truth, but he doesn’t believe her. She decides to put the past (or is it the future?) behind her. Can she survive without all of the modern conveniences she is used to? Life around them is so chaotic and uncertain. Readers follow Chloe and Bill through time, their ups and downs, creating a homey, delightful storyline. However, as all of this is happening, readers are left to ponder if Chloe will be ripped out of her life in the past and dragged back to her present. The looming threat remains throughout. A family mystery appears. Will she ever get answers? This is a fun story that will leave readers wondering what will happen to Chloe until the end. I was given a complimentary copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Sometimes we readers become so engrossed in a book that we become that person or we live in that setting. That’s what happens to Chloe in this book only much of her absorption comes from listening to a dear lady in a nursing home. The author sets each of these scenes so perfectly that it isn’t hard to feel or believe that you’re there yourself while reading. First in the nursing home talking with Minnie about her friends, her life, her family. Then picked right up out of the woods by a sweet and good man in the 1940’s era. This is a sweet book. I won’t deny that romance is not my favorite genre, but this didn’t strike me as a romance. I think the reason was because there was nothing uncomfortable, nothing lewd, just sweet as I said. Everybody likes a little bit of sweet love, don’t they? It was the historical side of this that made it all so interesting. Tricia McGill has several books published. She has crossed genres in her writing, but it looks to me that it is this sort of historical setting that has given her the highest reviews.

Chloe has no idea what to do or where to go. Will she ever get back home in 2020? Bill is very nice to Chloe, he takes her home with him. Bill helps Chloe obtain a new identity and a rations card among other things. When she travels to 1940 Chloe gets to meet the young Minnie, of the lady Minnie Clacton she was taking care of in the nursing home, in 2020. She also gets to meet her own Great Great Grandmother Aggie in 1940. WOW! Can you imagine getting to meet your own Great Great Grandmother? The author Tricia McGill pulls you in from the first page making you feel as if you are right there with Chloe and Bill in 1940. The descriptions are so vivid that you have no problem seeing it all play out in your head as if you were watching a movie. I would love to see When Destiny Calls made into a movie. When Destiny Calls has enough twists and action to keep you tied to the past as you race to the end to see how it all turns out. When Destiny Calls left a few unanswered questions for me like what happened in 2020 after Chloe disappeared? What did her co-works or friends think happened to her? Did Chloe just simply disappear off the face of the Earth without any trace? Or was there another version of Chloe in 2020? I would recommend When Destiny Calls to anyone who loves a good time-traveling romance! One-click your copy When Destiny Calls today!

Chloe was a kind, caring person. Her life was upended when she traveled through time to England during World War II. She found her great love in Bill who accepted her truth and fell in love with her. The idea was a very intriguing one, and the story was well told. I received a copy of this story through Goddess Fish Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
