A deep, velvety voice answered, and as luck would have it, he had my suitcase, too. Donovan and I met at a coffee shop to do the exchange. Turned out, it wasn’t just his voice that was sexy. The man holding my luggage was absolutely gorgeous, and we had an immediate spark. He got me to admit that I’d snooped in his bag and then convinced me to make it up to him by letting him buy me coffee. Coffee led to dinner, dinner led to dessert, and dessert led to spending an entire weekend together. Donovan wasn’t just handsome with a panty-dropping voice. He was also funny, smart, and surprisingly down to earth for a man who wore seven-hundred-dollar shoes. Did I mention he also did my laundry while I slept? Definitely too good to be true. So what did I do to repay him for his kindness? I waited until he was in the shower, then ghosted him. My life was too complicated for such a great guy. In the months that passed, I thought about Donovan often. But New York City had eight million people, so what were the chances I’d run into him? Then again, what were the chances I’d run into him a year later…when I’d just started dating his boss?

VKs is beyond capable of creating great chemisty between her characters, usually because they both have something to offer. for a book called ‘the spark,’ im surprised to read something that is so one sided. thank goodness donovans side is more than enough. this is a good book if you need something fun and quick to pass the time but, in terms of characters, its unfortunately lacking the high quality of VKs previous novels. *the rating is for him and him alone. ↠ 3.5 stars

3.75 Stars I think Donovan Decker is my favorite VK hero. He’s a total catch! His personality matches his good looks. (I had no problem picturing the guy on the cover as the hero, did you?) The only downside to this book is that he’s paired with one of the most difficult heroines (in the history of romance) I’ve ever read about with chronic trust & commitment issues; AND this story is missing that oomph factor that this author’s books always seem to be lacking. I think what I enjoyed the most out of this was seeing all the ways Decker was being swoon-worthy and next to perfect as well as the dynamics between him, Bud, and Storm. The duo (Decker & Storm) reminded me of Jake & Rory from ‘Sustained.’ Read this book if you want a pining hero who’s not afraid to pull all the stops to get the girl of his dreams―not in a creepy, psycho kind of way of course, but sweetly, gently, patiently, and determinedly. Well i was wondering how long it would take me to find a book with an annoying h and there it was. 😂 I was srsly thinking about dnfing this couple of times bc of her. It had an interesting premise with them swapping their luggage and then spending a whole weekend together(not having sex btw) even tho that was only told and not shown. That was the first thing that bothered me bc i wanted to read about their time together and their connection and not only read like what happened in 4 sentences. That was the first thing that bothered me bc i wanted to read about their time together and their connection and not only read like what happened in 4 sentences. The h also ghosted him after this so we have like 10 months later when they finally meet again. The H is a lawyer and she is a social worker and they meet when they are on a case together. She is also dating his partner from his law firm and i hated her hot and cold behaviour so muchhhh!!! The H was very persistent and he openly told her all the time that he is interested in her but she has some issues and don't want a serious relationship but strings him along all the time. I honestly fell bad for the H, he didn't deserve this and don't know what he saw in her.🤷‍♀️ Also i felt that he was much more into her then she was into him. She goes to a barbecue party with her bf, sees the H with another girl, she is immediately so jealous and then she kisses him on that same very party and acts like a bitch later saying that she didn't cheat on her bf bc she ISN'T SURE if they are even exclusive. And then she tells him she needs a break from the H and is best if they didn't see eachother anymore!😂😂😂 The H was a sweetheart honestly, he really chased her, in a lot of situations i would be like yesss i love when the man grovels and chases but here not so much, she didn't deserve him at all. I understand something traumatic happened to her in past but that didn't excuse her shitty behaviour.😡 Then in the second half she finally started to become more tolerable, she finally broke up with the bf, started to open up i even started to sympathise with her and she left him again in the end!😡 "I swiped my phone to off and sat at my desk. It was nine o’clock at night, and a few people were still milling around the office, but I didn’t give a fuck. I cried like a baby." Poor guy. I don't even care how many times i wrote in this review but SHE DID NOT DESERVE HIM!

He wore his feelings for her on his sleeve and she dated another man in front of him, hurting him. And she knew it too. The book started doing a backstory I guess to show why she was the way she was but I didn’t care because I was totally turned off. (hide spoiler)] This is a standalone and the lowest I have ever rated this author’s books but I can’t deal with cheating in any form.

"Now none of those things seem important. I don’t need more money, more recognition, more anything. All I need is you." I finished this book in 24 hours because I needed to. I needed to know how it ended, and its ending made me happy. Happy for all the people out there who've had it rough in their childhood, or in their teens and 20s, and who have managed to rise above it all, fight for what they want, and make it. And find love in the process. "Donovan made me want—want more, to take more risks, "Now none of those things seem important. I don’t need more money, more recognition, more anything. Happy for all the people out there who've had it rough in their childhood, or in their teens and 20s, and who have managed to rise above it all, fight for what they want, and make it. And find love in the process. "Donovan made me want—want more, to take more risks, to trust again, to believe the world could change and be a good place. It physically hurt to keep trying to stomp all of those feelings down." Donovan carries the whole book for me. In a word, he's incredible. He's a lawyer, and he has a lot of money, but he's so much more than that. Life was hard for him growing up, and he had to fight hard for everything he has. He's so thoughtful, and so giving, so concerned and protective, and so... I don't even even have the words. He got through to me, and he felt real to me. If you know me, you know that's a huge compliment. Donovan is definitely in my Top 10 heroes of 2021. "'Why does it feel so damn wrong to get out of this car without kissing you goodnight?'" Full disclosure, Autumn got on my nerves during part of the book, because I didn't get her. Until I understood where she was coming from, and what happened in her life. It's not that she didn't like Donovan, but that she liked him too much. Trauma messes up your brain, and makes you unable to trust, yourself or others. Once I understood her, it all made sense. And she felt real to me, too. “Do you think a kiss can be better than sex?” “If you’d asked me that a year ago, I probably would have said no.” I let my head fall back against the back of the couch again, enjoying the moment. “And now?” “Now I think a kiss can feel like oxygen when I’m unable to breathe.” Donovan and Autumn meet because she took his suitcase by mistake. The story spawns from that meeting at a coffee shop, because it's all there from the beginning. It's actually there for both of them, but it's the guy who has it bad, it's the guy who shows it, and it's the guy who wants and needs more. It's the guy who is patient and waits. This felt refreshing to me. "I like that you kept something around that reminded you of me.” (...)“It means while your mind wanted nothing more to do with me, your heart did. (...) “The heart always wins in the end.” After spending a weekend together, Autumn disappears, and Donovan has to accept it and move on. Only he really doesn't, because she's always at the back of his mind, since he can't stop thinking about her. The picture he has on his phone was the sweetest thing in the world for me. All the details he remembers. And when they meet again, out of the blue, he knows he can't let her go again. Side note: some people are caught up in the fact that she's seeing someone else when they meet again. I say, let it go. Cheating is a trigger for me, but it didn't feel like cheating because there were no feelings involved. They were casually seeing each other for the company, and apparently for him to have someone to take to office parties. Didn't bother me one bit. "I have never been more interested in a woman in my life. Whether you wanted me or not, you’ve had me for the last year, Autumn." This is a slow burn story, and I think it had to be, because it just makes sense with these characters. Donovan has his past, and the way he was brought up, which was heartbreaking. And Autumn has a lot more baggage than that, so this could never be an easygoing, fast, and carefree love story. It's a process. It takes time, it takes patience, and it takes love. Vi Keeland gives them life just the right way. "Love is…enough. None of the other things are important when you find the right person. You’re in my heart, Autumn—hell, you own my heart." The spark in the title is there from the get-go, and it ignited them both. You know their happily ever after is not going to come easily, but you know it will be worth it in the end. Donovan definitely knew it too, and it's his heart and his love that battle her dragons and win it all. It's more than a story about finding love – it's about overcoming the things that have broken you. It's about waiting for love, learning how to tend to it, and how to keep it, and about learning how to let go and being happy. If you haven't realized it by now, yes, I loved it. One of my top reads of 2021.

'THE SPARK' Is a full length romance book by Vi Keeland. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.' Other than the the eye candy on the cover and who the author is I couldn't wait to start this once it landed on my ipad. And once opened and started there was no turning back, this slow burn got its hooks into me and I devoured it. It's probably by far one of my favourites by this author, the characters, the storyline, made for such a perfect book on this winters day. My heart was full, the feels warmed me up, and there's absolutely nothing I would change about this book. This reads exactly how the 'Synopsis' states, after a girls trip in Vegas celebrating a bachelorette party arriving back home, twenty-eight year old Autumn mistakenly picks up the wrong bag off the carousel. The name on the tag reads Donovan Decker. They agree to meet over coffee at the nearest star-bucks to exchange bags. One thing leads to another and she ends up at his apartment for the weekend. Then once the weekend is over so is there time together, he wakes up to an empty bed and apartment. She'd ghosted him. No note. Nothing...He frequents the star-bucks they met at but he never sees her again. One year goes by and she's still on his mind. He's been assigned a pro-bono case and she's the boys social worker, that 'spark' they shared 'that weekend' is still there. BUT she's dating his boss. And god don't get me started on Donovan, there were so many layers to him which I loved, there was so much depth, he embodies everything us girls chase in our romance books. Autumn doesn't trust too easily and only dates guys where no emotional strings get attached, she's afraid to give her heart over to another, her story is raw and explains so much about her character, around Donovan she slowly comes into her own and it's so beautiful to see her unravelling.

So, the blurb only described what happened in the first chapter. The whole meeting part of course. Fast forward 10 months later, the story began. I have to admit, I'm one of those where cheating trope (in any kind of form) is a big nono. Hence why maybe I couldn't enjoy this book more than I could. No matter how 'Dick'ish the om was. Sure, it was casual; sure, it was not serious. Just don't go down that road. Unfortunately, this went on half of the book. I kinda hope she broke it off the moment So, the blurb only described what happened in the first chapter. The whole meeting part of course. Fast forward 10 months later, the story began. I kinda hope she broke it off the moment she realized there is something unfinished with our hero. Alas, it took her sometimes to let Dick go. Our hero? Except when he was flirting with his boss's girlfriend and jeopardizing his career, he's pretty much a saint and the perfect boyfriend you'll ever want. No kidding. He's too perfect. He said the right thing all the time. In the end, this book isn't for me. Even without the cheating part, I feel like this book is missing something. It kinda hit all the right note of what a contemporary romance should be but there is something lacking about it. I don't know how to describe it.

It wasn't even bad, it was just boring and a bunch of things really got on my nerves. ⚠️ Spoilers below ⚠️ Autumn (h) and Donovan (H) met when Autumn accidentally grabbed Donovan's luggage at the airport. When they meet to swap, they really hit it off and spend the weekend together. It's unclear what actually happens during this weekend besides them sleeping in the same bed together and oral sex. Now I say it's unclear because there's a time jump after they meet to swap luggages... Random time jumps without context are one of the most annoying things ever. Like Autumn and Donovan really liked each other after this weekend, but as a reader weren't able to see this crush take place since it skipped over it. OM drama and emotional/physical cheating. When Autumn and Donovan finally meet again, 10 months after, Donovan finds out that Autumn is dating his boss. Donovan doesn't stop pursuing Autumn and constantly explains that he has feelings for her, but Autumn seemed to always be leading Donovan on with her words and actions. Like she tells him that she doesn't want to be in a relationship with him and then gets jealous when Donovan is talking to a girl at a party that was at with her BOYFRIEND. Jealousy coursed through my veins. I knew it was absolutely ridiculous, considering I was standing with another man’s arm wrapped around me. But logic didn’t change what I felt. Actually, the worst part is when she explains to Donovan the nature of their relationship... "So you two of you aren't exclusive, then?" "It's exclusive for me." And proceeds to cheat on her boyfriend by making out with Donovan and confessing her feelings to him at the same party I mentioned before...THEN when talking about what happened she says this... "I’m not worried about me, Donovan. Yes, it’s a shitty thing to do when I’m here with another man, and I’ll be mortified. But things with Blake are casual. You will lose your job, though." One minute she's saying they're exclusive and he's my boyfriend the next she's saying they're only 'casual'??? You can't justify cheating by changing your words afterwards boo Autumn is also constantly ghosting the hero. Listen I get that she had a ton of baggage, her ex-boyfriend assaulted and raped her, and everyone handles trauma differently, but damn this woman is so flaky. After their weekend together, Autumn leaves Donovan alone in his apartment without any way to contact her. Also, when Autumn and Donovan happen across her rapist, Donovan beats his ass up. Which I was absolutely living for...until OF COURSE, Autumn ghosted him again for over a week 🙄 Like he was arrested, facing a felony charge, a possible civil suit, and his opportunity of becoming a partner at his law firm was at risk (which he did lose btw) and the girl couldn't even answer his phone calls... Donovan is kinda perfect, maybe too perfect. If you're into perfect heroes that will do anything for the heroine even if it means losing his job and going to prison than this is for you. It just makes no sense to me why someone would pursue a taken woman who doesn't want them and is dating the man that could give you what you've been working toward for SEVEN YEARS. The cliché-ness of this also made me roll my eyes. Because of Autumn's rape she had a lot of issues with commitment, giving control over, and insomnia, but OF COURSE nothing could solve these things until Donovan. That really gave me After vibes with the whole 'I couldn't sleep until you slept next to me' bullshit Why 2 stars and not 1? There were a some moments that I really liked, for example exhibit a) Autumn's friend interrogating Donovan before their first date “So have you ever owned a van?” “No, I haven’t.” “Harmed any animals?” “Can’t say I have.” exhibit b) Donovan and Autumn talking about limits during sex “So putting you down on your knees with your hair wrapped in my hands and fucking your face? That’s okay?” I swallowed. Jesus. I was getting turned on just thinking about it, so I nodded. “Nice.” His hand again traveled down to my breasts, and he pinched my nipple hard before rubbing between my cleavage. “And sitting on your chest while I slide my cock in and out of here and coming on your neck? That’s okay, too?” Like that was kind of hot idk

This is probably my favorite Vi book to date. Donovan was the perfect hero. I couldn’t love him more. He was so different from so many wealthy men we read about in books. He never really wanted a relationship since he worked so many hours. But something shifted when he met Autumn. She opened up a place inside of him he didn’t even realize was closed off. Autumn purposely stayed away from real relationships. She just wanted a companion and nothing more. Especially feelings. She suffered something tragic and just closed that door of her heart. When she met up with Donovan, they shared a weekend together but she left because deep down she was scared of what could be. When these two run into each other again, sparks fly once again. But she’s seeing someone that has a connection to Donovan. But he’s not willing to walk away from what they could be together. And he’s determined to show her what she means to him. I truly loved everything about this book. These two were perfect for one another. Bravo Vi for another masterpiece.

One of my favorite thing about the author’s work is she always has a strong opening with an entertaining first meeting scene, including this one. But as the story progressed, it fell flat for me. While I liked Donovan and loved his background and his big heart, Autumn seemed tedious. And because of that, I’m not as sympathetic to her as I should. I loved Storm and Bud, who added heart to the story. The Spark is a story of rediscovering oneself. It might appeal to readers who enjoy a slow burn, a second chance at love Romance. 🔸️✴🔸️ . . . Autumn was just coming home from a girls trip from Vegas a bachelorette party and was tired and picked up the wrong bag. As she got home to open the bag and saw the size 13 $700 Ferragamo shoe she knew she made a mistake and picked up the wrong bag. Hopeful Autumn called the name on the tag and was ecstatic to hear the swoon worthy deep voice on the other end. They made a pac to not inspected each others bag but it was already too late for Autumn her curiousity got the better of her. Autumn & Donovan met at a coffee shop. As Autumn was waiting on her cup of coffee a drop dead gorgeous guy walked through the door at the coffee shop and Autumn couldn't take her eyes off him and missed he was carrying the same bag as she had until he walked up next to her. They immediately had a spark, one coffee turned into 1 weekend and once Donovan took a shower on that last day Autumn ghosted him, she didn't even leave a note and with only knowing her name as Autumn W, Donovan had no way of contacting this luggage thief. That was until 1 year later when Donovan was up for partner in his firm and was asked to do a pro bono case for his boss with a trouble teen name Storm. However, while waiting at police station to talk to his new problem teen client guess who walks in, yes Red...what is the likelyhood of Autumn being Storm's social worker. After pining for this girl for a year she is standing right in front of him. Now the race is on to convince Autumn that he is the spark she needs. The tough, arrogant, confident lawyer now has a second chance to prove that he is not only the man for her but also can take care of her case in a manner to win her over. Autumn does trust easily she dates people she doesn't care for and run from the people that she has a spark with. That is why Donovan doesn't really have a fir chance. But...what is worth trying is worth staying the course. "I'm proud of you not just for graduating but also for everything you gone through in the last year. I know it wasn't easy, I couldn't have done it without you, that was nice of you to say, but its total bullshit, you can do anything. I'm just lucky enough to go along for the ride Red!!! Lastly to add my favorite voices Andi Ardnt & Sebastian York was to die for.

But Autumn doesn’t trust easily and only dates guys without an emotional attachment. Knowing that Donovan poses a serious threat to her heart because he’s gorgeous inside and out, Autumn leaves him without a trace only to run into him almost a year later when Donovan is assigned a pro-bono case where she’s the social worker. The spark between them is still there, but Autumn not only knows she could easily fall for the smart and caring man, she’s also dating his boss. Can they overcome the obstacles between them? If I found my 2021 girl Vi's The Invitation, I found my 2021 book boyfriend in The Spark! Donovan is so well developed, he’s absolutely perfect. He’s charmingly cocky, sexy and smart, he’s a hard worker who is sure of the connection between him and Autumn and isn’t afraid to work for them pursuing her with determination and care. Even though they both have difficult pasts, Autumn’s is heartbreakingly raw and explains why she’s afraid of being in a serious relationship. But with Donan’s help she faces her past and overcomes it. It was lovely to read how she came into her own and to watch how their spark developed from friendship to a passionate happy ever after. Add to these two amazing characters a few more great supporting ones like Storm and Bud and you have a perfect summer romance! The Spark is a standalone contemporary romance by Vi Keeland. It’s told from both points of view with a beautifully swoony happy ending. * I was given an ARC of this book courtesy of the author via Give Me Books PR. The excerpts are from that copy. Dononvan's past. All very exciting and heartbreaking. Lots of stuff to overcome until we can ride off into our happily ever ever sunset! After reading the blurb ... I wasn't too much of a fan of this love triangle thing - but it's not a love triangle at all. Because I hate those. 😎 I really loved reading this book. Donovan was super adorable and hot 🔥 and just the best a bookboyfriend can be! And Autumn - so sweet and broken - but she'll get there! Oh - almost forgot to mention ... I read the paperback this time. Ugh - I'm so not used to that anymore! I got cramps in my hands and arms from holding it up so weirdly - to not bend the spine! And in bed I couldn't see anything - it was too dark - so I was half hanging out in the air over the side of the mattress to get some light! And you can't highlight anything with just your finger! WHAT?! And I looked up at the top of the book a million times to check the time - there was no time! How did we survive in before-kindle times??? 🤣🤣 THE SPARK was an adorable & funny & sparky & heartbreaking love story! After Autumn discovers she has the wrong luggage, she makes contact with the person who she is hoping has hers. Donovan does indeed have her luggage and agrees to meet her for the exchange. They do more than exchange luggage though, they also exchange hours of conversation and their time over an entire weekend. A weekend neither of them will ever forget, especially Donovan. Autumn left no contact details when she left Donovan that weekend for a reason. She is not interested in any sort of commitment with anyone so she enjoyed it for what it was, a moment in time that she will always remember. Autumn has a busy and fulfilling life as a social worker in New York. After initially attending college to study law, she soon realized that it was not her passion and switched majors. She gets more satisfaction out of helping those most in need. When one of her young clients ends up at the police station she is surprised to see Donovan Decker walk in to represent him as a pro bono case. No one is more surprised than Donovan. His mind often drifts to the weekend he shared with Autumn and despite many attempts to find her, he came up empty handed. Now he not only knows her full name but how to get hold of her. And that spark he felt 12 months ago, oh yeah it’s definitely still there… ‘I felt foolish avoiding contact, so I put my hand in his. Just like the first time, it hit with a spark. My pulse raced, and goose bumps dashed up my arm, over my shoulder, and straight to the back of my neck, making all the little hairs stand up.’ There is no way Autumn can avoid him now that they will be working together on a case. Donovan makes it obvious that he still has an interest in getting to know her but the fact that she is dating someone else at the moment and wanting to keep things professional between them seems to placate him for now. Autumn soon learns that the façade of the gorgeous man in custom made suits is only the top layer that he shares with people. The more she gets to know him, she sees that there is so much more to Donovan Decker. In fact, he is quite extraordinary. And it’s getting harder to resist him… he is not making it easy with all of his thoughtful gestures and general hotness. Donovan is in awe of all things Autumn, he has never met anyone like her and he knows she can feel the pull between them. There is something holding her back though and he knows he needs to tread carefully with her, she is setting the pace and he is happy to follow the safety car until the flag drops. When the spark they have ignites there is no stopping it…. Donovan is a wonderful swoon worthy book boyfriend and once I started reading I was completely invested in this couple. This was the perfect read for me on a cold, wintery weekend by the fire.

Without question, Donovan Decker is our new favourite Vi Keeland book-boyfriend! If you love second chance romances with all the feels and an uplifting yet emotional story then The Spark is definitely one to add to your reading list. The Spark does deal with some heavy subjects which can be triggers for some readers, yet the love story is what romance novels are made of! We fell in book love. Told in dual pov in a past/present format we felt like we really got to know the characters and their back story in this slow-build angsty romance that also had great humour and heat. “You scare the hell out of me, Donovan.” “Right back at ya, Red. But you know what? I’m more afraid of what I’ll be missing if we don’t give this a real shot.” Donovan and Autumn first cross paths in a mistaken suitcase scenario and it was a meant-to-be kismet moment. The ruthless lawyer immediately falls for the very reluctant to commit social worker who leaves in the early hours only to disappear for a year with no contact. Until fate plays her hand again. Their journey to love is not an easy one as the past comes back to haunt Autumn, and the scars she lives with are still very much haunting her. It takes the amazing patience and utter devotion of Donovan, who is so much more than what he seems, to help her unravel and piece together her broken soul. Vi Keeland wrote a beautiful romance with perfect depth and character growth; showing perseverance, change, hope, and overcoming past traumatic experiences. We most definitely recommend this one to our fellow romance readers! “Looking back, a year ago I thought I knew everything, but the truth is, I had no idea what love was. But I finally figured it out. Love is…enough. None of the other things are important when you find the right person.” LIVE EARLY and Available to purchase below Ebook Paperback Audio Come and say hi, at: ✲ TotallyBookedBlog ✲ TBB on Facebook ✲ TBB on Instagram ✲ TBB on Twitter ✲ TBB on Pinterest

Donovan was disappointed when Autumn disappeared but then fate intervened and one year later , their paths collide again. The story is told from a dual POV and there are occasional flashbacks to the past for Autumn. I don't always enjoy a book when authors employ that method of storytelling but in this novel, it is done sparingly and it works well in the flow of the story. I instantly liked Donovan. He is a very lovable hero and he is certainly the main pursuer of the relationship. His backstory is pretty heart breaking and I absolutely adored the connection between him and Bud, his old mentor / male role model and also Storm, the child who they are both working with. It took me a little while to really warm up to Autumn and although I did feel for her and understood her reasons for not wanting a relationship , she definitely comes off as a little aloof / distant at times. Donovan breaks down those walls of hers and their sexual chemistry is hot. Talking of their hot chemistry , I listened to this being narrated by Andi Arndt and Sebastian York. I love both of their voices and they brought the characters to life brilliantly. At 83% I seriously had to stop my boring household chores and take a moment....whoa. Like I said , H.O.T. Overall this was an interesting and well written story that I will definitely read again and would absolutely recommend. So why not 5 stars? I did struggle a little with Autumn pushing Donovan away (but I get why). Also , although the epilogue is gorgeous , I would have liked to see a bit further into the future. HEA? Yes Cheating? (view spoiler)[ Once Autumn and Donovan are together there is no cheating between them. Prior to them getting back together after their year apart Autumn is going out with another man. She kisses Donovan whilst still seeing the other man. It happens once when they are all at a work function. She subsequently breaks up with the OM and after kissing Donovan she never kisses the OM again. The relationship had been physical but casual and they had not been together long. This did not bother me at all but I have seen some reviews that reflect some readers feeling a level of discontent at this. (hide spoiler)] Distressing Content for some? Yes. (view spoiler)[ Rape of a woman (not graphically described but very key to the story). Child neglect. (hide spoiler)]

I think I say this every time I read a new book by Vi Keeland, but this hero has now moved to the top of my favorites list. Donovan Decker is kind, protective, smart, and caring. Donovan and Autumn arrange to swap suitcases after a mix up at the airport, and from the very first meet-cute, I was hooked. As the reader, we are told that these two hit it off instantly, but we aren’t privy to what goes on…only that Autumn ghosts Donovan after a fantastic weekend. The journey in the story is about learning why. Both Donovan and Autumn have a past that has shaped who they are today, and as the layers of each of their histories is peeled back slowly, we get a better understanding of what drives them, scares them, and makes them the people they’ve become. The connection between Autumn and Donovan sparks from the very start and only grows stronger, slowly, steadily. I’m going to be honest, I typically like my romances dirty and full of sex. Vi Keeland is one of only a handful of authors where I don’t care that the characters take so long to get together. She writes characters with such chemistry, such charisma, and so much sexual tension that I just enjoy the ride and savor the story itself and the depths of emotions that her characters show. I feel as if I know this couple and have become invested in their struggles, both personal and professional. I’ve become a part of their circle of friends that is closer than family and hate to leave them. The Spark was fantastic and simply not to be missed. Review copy provided for a voluntary review.

Autumn is caring, loving, hardworking and you can see how much she loves helping people but she is also broken and closed off. I loved the growth of her throughout this book. By the end I was proud of her for standing up and for getting the justice that was well deserved. Donovan is the exact opposite of what you’d expect. He had to work hard for everything in his life, he had to overcome obstacles that many people didn’t have to. He is caring, sweet and genuinely just wants to help. I loved the instant spark between Autumn and Donovan and I loved seeing that spark grow, despite the fact that Autumn kept him firmly in the friendzone. While everything may have started with a spark, these two are a burning wildfire by the end. I loved their friendship, their relationship, their quirks. While Autumn passed all of Donovan’s test, he gave her faith and hope and a safe place. If you’re looking for a strangers to friends to lovers, slow burn romance this is one to check out.

4.5 stars! This is a gorgeous read! A sweetly romantic, slow burn love story with wonderful characters and a really nice emotional twist. Such a great story, I loved it! Donovan and Autumn met when their luggage got mixed up at the airport, and they meet up to exchange suitcases. Their quick meeting turned into coffee, which turned into dinner, which turned into an amazing weekend together that came to an end when Autumn ran without explanation or a way to get in touch. It’s months later when they 4.5 stars! It’s months later when they run into each other again – Donovan is the lawyer for a troubled young boy, and Autumn is the Social Worker on the case. It seems like it’s meant to be, except that Donovan is aiming to make partner in his law firm and took the case on as a favour to his boss…. the same man that Autumn happens to be dating. It’s an awkward situation, made all the more uncomfortable by the fact that they are still wildly attracted to each other. They quickly find themselves platonically all up in each other’s lives, and the easiness that existed between them in the past becomes a fun and natural friendship. Though they both want more, Autumn has emotional walls up to stop anybody getting too close. But when she ditches the ‘boyfriend’, all bets are off, and Donovan is a man on a mission to break through her emotional barriers and win her heart. “I have never been more interested in a woman in my life. Whether you wanted me or not, you’ve had me for the last year, Autumn.” It seems like a simple set-up, but there’s a lot of depth to this story, and it’s beautiful watching it all unfold. The book is written mostly from Donovan’s POV, which I loved, and the man is pure perfection as he determinedly pursues Autumn, but taking care with her heart, wooing her slowly, and going at the pace that she needs to feel comfortable. “You scare the hell out of me, Donovan.” “Right back at ya, Red. But you know what? I’m more afraid of what I’ll be missing if we don’t give this a real shot.” Autumn has been through a really hard time and she justifiably has difficulties opening up and trusting, and I could empathise with her and all that she’s been through. She handles her situation well though, and I loved her bravery in the way she allowed herself to trust Donovan and share her past and let him in. And her situation, though heartbreaking, gives Donovan the chance to shine as a man who wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s open about pretty much everything – his heartbreaking past and its impact on him, and his feelings for Autumn and all that he wants from her. And as he lets her into his life, she finds her walls crumbling, and it was beautiful watching the two of them come together so openly and honestly. It’s a gorgeous slow burn that is absolutely worth the wait, and I could feel everything that these two were feeling as they fell and fell hard. “Love is…enough. None of the other things are important when you find the right person. You’re in my heart, Autumn—hell, you own my heart.” There is some drama, but it’s nothing unexpected, and it’s resolved well. I finished this book feeling completely satisfied, with a huge smile on my face. I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Sebastian York and Andi Arndt, and as always, they do a great job with it. I really enjoyed listening to this one, and thoroughly recommend it! 4.5 stars.
