My reviews might get shorter here because I don't want to spoil anything. The fight against the number one demon is on. 4 fucking Hashira going head to head with this beast and the dude is STILL standing. A beautiful, vicious, sad, and exciting fight that I loved every moment of. I have to admit though, the backstory of the number 1 didn't do TOO much for me. But the loss of characters and their deaths hit me hard. Brutal but wonderful volume to add to the final few chapters of this grand series My reviews might get shorter here because I don't want to spoil anything. I like how the author made this whole history so personal and rooted in past and comments on how jealousy leads to bad things and comments on the present generations job for future generations and the way she draws the fight is insane and each panel and page is amazing. The backstory makes the characters interesting and the story so rich and makes you feel even for the passing of such characters. Maybe they were not bad and for that is some great writing. I think Gotouge comments on such themes through simple stories but such complex, nuance detailed panels and emotions makes this a must read.

I really enjoyed the fights in this volume, mostly because Tokito, Sanemi, Genya, and Himejima make for an odd combination considering their fighting styles. Still, it was beautiful to watch and I LOVED seeing the resolve Tokito and Genya had for standing their ground and fighting to the bitter end. Genya's character hasn't had a lot of time to develop, but I feel like he really shines in this fight. That being said, the main issue I had with this volume was it revolved around Kokushibo's past and frankly I don't give a fuck about him. Yes, I understand why his past is important to the series, both with his relation to Yoriichi and the overall message of family, but I had no personal attachment to his story or character. I want to make it clear that I don't think he's a poorly written character or even a "bad" character, but I was never invested in his character from the start and having this entire volume revolve around him dampened my enjoyment. I don't want to say anything lest I get into spoiler territory, so I'll leave it at that. I still liked this volume despite my gripes, but mostly for the awesome action.

I admit, I only picked up this manga after watching the topnotch anime adaptation. I was reluctant about it at first since most overhyped shounen manga end up with disappointing plots, but this one delivered in the end. It was emotionally packed and had some of the most endearing characters.

100% the best volume in this series so far. My HEART ;u; I honestly feel just WRECKED after reading this volume. Emotionally and somehow physically as well.. I mean WOW. All that happened in this volume was just... o.o;; I didn't expect that backstory to get me, and it almost didn't... but THE FLUTE ;u; Side note: I think we finally got the explanation for why Tanjiro's family was supposedly targeted in the first place! That question's been bugging me since the first episode (...I watched the anime first) as it just did NOT seem random. And I was right, it wasn't! Chapter notes below for personal reference: (potentially spoiler heavy) (view spoiler)[ Chapter 170 (view spoiler)[Tokito’s finally freeeeeee -- YOU WHAT NOW. You only got stabbed once! How is that gonna kill you, Tokito? I’ve seen all these other guys (...particularly Genya) get away with FAR worse wounds! -- ...Sooo… how powerful would Genya become if he ate the hair of Numero Uno? (Side note - he has the ability to temporarily become demonic through eating the flesh of a demon, but what would happen if he had BLOOD? Would that also be temporary, or would that be permanent? Or does it depend on the demon?) -- Huh? Why on earth would the mark mean that you’d die before the age of 25? -- ...who bore the mark and lived past the age of 25? Himejima? Or someone else? Maybe a certain someone we keep hearing about? ;D -- Shinazugawa has a mark! Is that new? I think it’s new. (hide spoiler)] Chapter 171 (view spoiler)[Whoaaa… Genya can hear Kibutsuji? -- So THAT’S how Himejima fights whilst blind… kinda like using the chain of his mace for echolocation… -- They got an ear! They’re improving! -- ...What just happened? How did his sword basically evolve? o.O (hide spoiler)] Chapter 172 (view spoiler)[He cut off two of Shinazugawa’s fingers! -- OH THANK GOODNESS. Tokito got to Shinazugawa right before [I’m sure] he died for good! -- The weakest people are the ones that have the most potential (etc)... That’s honestly a bloody good thing for Tanjiro to say, even in a memory. And honestly when you think about it… so true. They just have to be given the opportunity to REALISE that potential. -- HE ATE A FUCKING SWORD. Wouldn’t that HURT?! (hide spoiler)] Chapter 173 (view spoiler)[Numero Uno’s onto the 16th form? How many of these does he have? -- THEY GOT AN ARM. PROGRESS. -- And Tokito managed to stab him! But will that actually do any damage? o.O Wait… that leg… is that Tokito’s leg? Did he just lost a leg in addition to his arm? That’s it. He’s dead. He’s gone. Fuck. -- DID HE GET HIM. DID GENYA GET HIM. (hide spoiler)] Chapter 174 (view spoiler)[Genya can do blood demon arts? Is that new? Is he able to do that purely because of ingesting parts from Numero Uno? -- Oh hey, memories from Numero Uno’s past! Does this mean he’s about to die, or is this a decoy? :| -- Memories of his brother as an old man! And said brother STILL HAS THE MARK. I knew it couldn’t be Himejima that was meant by “only one person with the mark living past 25”! -- THEY WERE TWINS?! -- Does that mean that Numero Uno became a demon because he resented his twin brother for being “special”? That’s stupid :| Then again… maybe he became a demon to avoid dying by 25 of the mark… What the HELL is the significance of this mark anyways? -- Awwww… his brother died fighting, and technically died fighting him, but he didn’t die from his hands - he died just of old age and over-exerting himself by the looks of it ;u; (Side note… wonder if Yoriichi’s blade is now the blade that Tanjiro has… Or maybe the blade belonged to Numero Uno (Michikatsu apparently) before he became a demon?)( (hide spoiler)] Chapter 175 (view spoiler)[Well fuck. He broke out of the tree thing that Genya used on him. They’re all dead. -- Genya, get UP. I know he may have cut off like half your head or something but GET THE HELL UP. -- Tokito’s blade became red? What’s the significance of that? I know when it happened to Tanjiro it was because of Nezuko using her blood demon art, and it made the blade stronger… but how does a red blade mean it’s stronger? Why is it so special? -- Oh hey. He literally DID get half his face cut off. Vertically. He has one eye left. (Any chance you’re coming back from this Genya? You’re a really good character!) -- AHA. RED BLADE IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE IT’S LIKE YORIICHI’S. THAT MUST BE IT. -- Holy shit, I think they may have actually done it O.O (hide spoiler)] Chapter 176 (view spoiler)[Waitt… are you meant to only have a red blade if you use the breath of the sun? o.O -- Tokito got cut in half? ;u; And Genya’s actually dead? Fuckkkkkk ;u; -- OH FUCK NO. NOPE. NOPE NOPE NOPE. CREEPY AS FUCK. NUMERO UNO IS CREEPY AS FUCKING HELL AND GREW A NEW HEAD AND HAS LIKE FREAKING MINI BLADES STICKING OUT OF HIM AND SPIKES EVERYWHERE AND A BIGGER MARK AND JUST… NOPEEEEEEE. -- Huh. All it took was seeing his reflection for him to realise what he had become and lose control just long enough that he could be taken down? o.O -- I guess that means this battle is finally over? ;u; (hide spoiler)] Chapter 177 (view spoiler)[Wowie. Yoriichi was certainly a prodigy o.o First time holding a training sword and you take out the instructor just like THAT. -- ...What? Was their mother killed? The way Yoriichi said that made it seem like their mother was killed… -- Nope. He just knew exactly when she would die, because of his ability with his sight - to see INTO people. He saw the illness and when it would take her. -- RUDE, MICHIKATSU. There was no reason to be so jealous of your brother! He truly cared for you. He loved you! He didn’t give a SHIT about his talent or your supposed lack thereof. You should have just been SIBLINGS you DICK :| (hide spoiler)] Chapter 178 (view spoiler)[Are you serious? You abandoned your wife and children just like THAT to become a demon slayer because you were jealous of your brother and wanted his talent for your own? You POS. -- So THAT’S how the mark worked… power in exchange for using your own life force apparently. -- Oh my gosh ;u; Yoriichi kept the flute for his entire life! Down to the day he died in front of Michikatsu ;u; -- That explains why Kibutsuji went after Tanjiro’s family! And why he was so determined to kill Tanjiro (the one with the earrings)! Because Tanjiro’s father knew the Sun Breath and it’s movements, and he taught it to Tanjiro! It’s all suddenly making so much sense! -- He kept the flute after his brother dieddddddd ;u; (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

The art is spot on. I really enjoy this style and the nuances in art. It grew on me significantly and I now do really like it. There are some problems with fight scenes - they could be better staged, but that comes naturally as you have multiple people swinging their swords and slashing at each other. The story is formulaic. I think that Demon Slayer is a perfect example of what is "wrong" with manga format. I believe that had the author more time to think and prepare the story would be much much The art is spot on. I believe that had the author more time to think and prepare the story would be much much better because everything needed is there. The characters have motivations. The villains have some sort of a reason why they are villains. The action is good. The "magic system" is there and sort of cool. But it is so formulaic and put together with simple and predictable glue.

5/5 Stars (%100/100) Oh man I don't even know where to start with this one. I'll start by saying that Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) manga has just ended. I will talk about the last arc and the ending in more detail in the upcoming volumes. This volume as you can understand from the cover art, is mainly focused on my main man Yoriichi Tsugikuni. He is the guy who gave Muzan PTSD and also the creator of breathing techniques. He is a legendary swordsman and we dig deep into his character. Yes, he is badass and all but he is such a well-written character. It was great to see more of him because I was always curious about his past. His relationship with his brother and Muzan is super interesting. Absolutely beautiful volume and things will get even more interesting in the following volumes.

Genya and Sanemi are brothers and they have a really sad background. every important character has a really sad background and that's also a reason why I like Kimetsu. Sanemi and Genya had few more siblings but when their mother got into a demon by demons. she killed all of her children. Sanemi was the oldest in the family (not including parents) he tried to protect all of his siblings but he was able to protect only Genya. When Genya joined Demon Killing Squad Sanemi was mad because he didn't want Genya to be in danger. He was being mean to Genya the whole time but in this volume 20, Genya gets killed by the number 1 demon in the twelve ghost moons. right before he dies Sanemi told why he was ignoring him the whole time and told his true feelings. Genya told Sanemi that he never hated his brother Sanemi and told him that he is the nicest person he ever met.
