I was so impressed when I received its delivery with its gold like edges to keep it from getting worn. I have used a $2.00 book that has scriptures grouped according to life challenges as this one does (though to a much less comprehensive degree) for years. It has subjects such as depression, grief, fear, etc. I have used them as witnessing tools and keep copies in my car. I give them to homeless people, acquaintances and friends, who are facing a challenging time in life and I attest at the openness even by atheists and people's not necessarily open to Christian faith. When I offer it, I just say, this book has been very helpful to me when I am dealing with _____ (something akin to their challenge, if appropriate). I would like to give this to you in hope you might find hope, insight, comfort, peace, etc. I have on rare occasion been turned down. Most people are quite gracious and display interest. This deviates from the above described book I carry in several ways and I am going to highlight my chief concern regarding its focus. There are less scriptural topics than the book I use and this book adds personal insights by the author, suggesting courses of action and spiritual direction that are based on her life experiences. I must warn that in the foreword she mentions a TV psychic (a formerly famous and now deceased Ms. Cleo)and a woman she consulted (unnamed) who talks to angels for guidance instead of the Holy Spirit! These are abominations against God and are repeatedly warned against as witchcraft in the Bible and the first two commandments. I have listed just a few key scripture warnings about this practice below. Deuteronomy 18:10-13 New King James Version (NKJV) ... 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass[a] through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are [b]an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you. 13 You shall be [c]blameless before the Lord your God. Leviticus 19:31 New Living Translation (NLT) 31 “Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. I am the Lord your God. 1 Chronicles 10:13-14 New International Version (NIV) 13 Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance, 14 and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse. 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 English Standard Version (ESV) 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. Leviticus 20:6 King James Version (KJV) 6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 King James Version (KJV) 10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee. She was also inspired by a book called "The Game of Life and How to Play It" by Florence Schoval Schinn, which she states she has read and/or listened to more than 100 times as of the writing! Schoval Schinn was a popular spiritist, what many would term today as a new age practitioner, people of the faith know that New Age is a wholly separate religion, which is not aligned with the true Christian practices as laid out in the original Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek Testaments. The Apostle Paul, who authored much of the New Testaments addressed how these false practices were being incorporated into the early church and we see its prevalence in many false churches in the West today have welcomed and blended with the true faith. This is the blurb here on Goodreads about her: Florence Scovel Shinn (September 24, 1871, Camden, New Jersey – October 17, 1940) was an American artist and book illustrator who became a New Thought spiritual teacher and metaphysical writer in her middle years. In New Thought circles, she is best known for her first book, The Game of Life and How to Play It (1925). Her books "Your Word Is Your Wand" and "The Game of Life and How To Play It" were released as audiobooks in 2014 and 2015 respectively and were narrated by actress Hillary Hawkins. Shinn is considered part of the New Thought movement, as her writings follow in the tradition of Phineas Quimby (1802–1866), Emma Curtis Hopkins (1849–1925), and both Charles Fillmore (1854–1948) and Myrtle Fillmore (1845–1931), co-founders of the Unity Church. Motivational author Louise Hay acknowledges her as an early influence. A side note, the reference to the wand in the title of Schwinn's book, further is indicative of the foundations of the witchcraft (occult practices) described within it. My overriding issue here is that this is not a wholly Christian book. Since, this author has blended the New Age belief that we are divine as observed in passages within. This totally nullifies what we learned in both Old Testament (before Christ), which teaches the ultimate and complete authority of God over man and a preparation for the only Messiah, which being man and God resulted in Christ being the only possible sacrifice for the sin problem beginning with Adam. Then in the New Testament we see Christ prove that he was both God and Man. We are not Christ, thus though we are created in the image of God, we are not gods! We are full of selfish and lack humanity toward others, if this wasn't true then how do account for all the wars for land and resources, the commonality of human trafficking and drugs or the failure to truly help the impoverished? To see one of the biggest proponents of this mixing of beliefs one can watch people like Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn or Joel Osteen, to name but a few. They are false Christians when using the Bible's standard of a true shepherd or pastor. One of the big signs of this is the vast wealth they accumulate and their little efforts to help the needy (Hurricane Harvey anyone?). So, they are frauds yet thousands are deceived and buy their books rather than consulting the Bible, the complete and true source of Christian belief. When I read how much the author applauds Schwinn, I wondered if she has a true grasp of the faith presented in the Bible scriptures. After reviewing this copy, my concerns were proven. I pray that she will reach out to me after reading this. If not, trust a reliable Bible translation such as the Amplified Bible or Geneva Translation, not those newer versions that omit scripture altogether (over 1,000 in the NIV) or totally perverting the scripture (Message). I appreciate the author who self published this compilation, J. Marie Jones for providing an opportunity to review this copy in exchange for my honest opinion. Unfortunately, I can not recommend it to others as a true Christian reference or resource.

One Definite Way to Affirm Wow. I began reading this book with mostly skepticism, but that point of view changed as I continued to read it. "Affirm the Word" by J.M. I have lots of "feelings" and can sometimes instinctively give someone peace of mind or help them understand something. Jones also mentions how there was struggle in letting God take the burdens of their life. I struggle to do that, too. I ask for guidance, but instead of letting it run its course, I always try to fix it without giving it some time. Without giving HIM some time. I ended up loving this book as it also speaks of depression and anxiety which is something that I do not have, but know many people who do and who struggle with it themselves. I will recommend this book to them as well as anyone who just wants a push in the right direction.

    J. Marie Jones did a sublime job writing this work. She is knowledgeable but humble and I adored this fact. My views are different in some aspects than many of hers but I still learn and enjoy so much from her book because she explains things really well; she uses good examples, thoughts and quotes. I won a copy of this and read it the very next day after it was delivered. The book itself is pretty and will last a long time. Love love love the concordance aspect of this and the prayer journal in the back. This is a book I will keep handy every single day. Loved the prayers, especially the Armor of God prayer. I am convinced that the content of this book can change lives if the words are put into practice. I think that it is good to read all of these key scriptures to reflect, but I could have great self-growth when I applied them in daily life with everyone around me. This book gives a testament to how God’s word and His scripture can change someone’s life. She includes her own story and how she has found God and now lives a better life devoted to God and helping others find Him as well. The book is a collection of scriptures, prayers and reflections from the author, all of which have helped her so she is sharing it with others. I’m not sure how much it will help others, but for those truly seeking God and need a starting point, this can be very beneficial.

I won this book in a giveaway. It's not what I was expecting it to be which is why I'm giving it three stars. I was expecting a book that would guide me into a deeper relationship with God or give me daily affirmations to carry through my day. This is a combination of the author's journey along with scripture and affirmations grouped by subject matter. DIVINE INSPIRATION I appreciate the availability of such content. The book is understandable by both mature and new believers. It supports the fact that even the strongest in Christianity could use some help communing. Such a book is divinely inspired as a guiding companion when we are weighed down by the issues of life. Most importantly, it glorifies God above all else. I am glad to such a help in building consistent fellowship with God. Anyone should find this book useful.
