But will the truth destroy her marriage? Then, she receives the word that The Tin Man, the shadowy figure behind The Boudoir Butcher, is looking for a new girl for his next assassination. She and her old friend, NYPD Sergeant Jacob Lawrence, head out to finally meet this deadly killer and take him down.Everyone's favorite Avon Lady, Mrs. Betty Jones, is back, and this episode draws together a couple of plots from the previous stories. Betty is caught between a rock and a hard place on several fronts, and this story is particularly gripping because of the various moral dilemmas coming to a head: what to tell George, what to do about daughter Nancy and her growing rebelliousness and desire to expand her burgeoning skills, and whether or not to play ball with Donald Pinzolo. The author maintains a firm grip on the continuity of this long-running series, and the sights and sounds of WWII New York still come on strong. Peppered throughout, as in previous episodes, are little tidbits of the culture and cant of the time that makes this series so vivid and unique.I highly recommend this latest installment in the Avon Calling! series to those keeping pace with the story. To readers not familiar with the series, I recommend it in its entirety starting at the beginning. You won’t be sorry.I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

Better the Devil You Know - Hayley Camille . The story is becoming more involved and deeply complex. But Betty Jones has done it again. She has a good and loyal friend in Jacob but his relationship with her is causing unforeseen problems in his job and with a few other people. Surprisingly, his dad reveals a stunning surprise. While Betty and Jacob both have different partners, neither can ignore or forget their close childhood relationship and how strong their bond was. Betty’s husband affectionately calls her ”Jitterbug”. I find that appropriate. She is light on her feet, in more ways than one, and always puts on a cheerful face even though her heart may be heavy. Her work as an Avon lady is a perfect cover and blend for all her activities of being a mother, a wife, a charitable worker, an Avon Lady and vigilante. She is quite amazing. I know it’s a work of fiction but I have grown to admire and really like this lovely but deadly Jitterbug. She’s the strong female we all dream of growing up to be… No matter how old we are. Stay strong Jitterbug !

You’d think Betty would be tired of her vigilante work (woven in between her charity work, housework, Avon job, school volunteer...) but she still seems to revel in it. Taking out the bad guys is probably the most rewarding. If she could just get the Tin Man and the Boudoir Butcher off the streets... In this episode, we have lots of different returning characters (including dear sweet fuddy duddy George who is still on leave) and we meet a few new ones. A few new interesting ones. All the while Betty still juggles all of that plus her children, Jacob and pickling in wonderful efficiency. Each episode draws us in and brings us closer to cleaning up the streets. And it’s all done with the wonderful feel of the 1940’s. Get ‘em Betty. ❤️

Betty is still going strong, even with new problems arising. George is remembering, a new protagonist is getting closer to Betty, and creating more danger. We see how Betty is handling the additional threat in her usual ladylike manner. I love this series. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.

Excellent addition to the Avon Calling thriller series. I usually read at least 3 episode volumes, and my favorite was episodes 1-10 all in one volume. But this was great on its own, even though I wanted the next episode right away.
