Okay so honestly book 1 is essentially just a set up for the series! I liked this one a lot more than the first because you find out WHO the recurring character is! Honestly I really like this take a lot, you don’t usually get to follow the murderer essentially on the run, it was refreshing!!

Now in Book #2 Bellamy has changed her name to Charity and living in a small town at the local hotel and cleaning for freeboard/food etc. She also has gotten rid of Quentin and has a new plan in action. The sole heir to the hotel and a massive fortune is Roy - Veronica's grandson. Charity plans to get him to fall in love with her and manipulate her way into the fortune. Her plan would be simple, but Roy has a sort of girlfriend Samantha who is suspicious of Charity and won't let her get her claws into Roy. As the book goes along, Charity will also uncover some dark secrets that Veronica is hiding - one to do with Joshua Iverson's son Liam and the other to do with the Tripps son. Meanwhile, it looks like not only Quentin has tracked Bellamy down and wants his revenge on her, but also CJ who is from her hometown and has been tracking her movements and covering her on his podcast about unsolved crimes and fugitives on the run. Does Bellamy / Charity's run come to an end or has she got another ace up her sleeve and will stay one step ahead of everybody. Find out in Book #2 They All Had a Secret by Michele Leathers and stay tuned for Book #3 They All Had a Fear. This series is great for all fans of YA thrillers from authors like Karen McManus, Sara Shepard, and Natalie D. Richards.

Good read It was definitely a good suspenseful book. I did not care for the way it jumped around on the different points of view of the characters.

I didn’t feel like everything just rushed to conclusion like the first one this one took it’s time and didn’t leave too many loose ends. I thought I couldn’t stand Bellany in the first book but boy did she get under my skin in this one. She takes on the persona of Charity.. the girl she killed in book one. She thought the name would be fitting since she wanted to come off as this sweet, innocent and charitable girl. Right from the beginning she tricks people into falling under her spell when she convinced the owner of the Diner she works at Jessy to help her find a place to stay. He then turns to Veronica the owner of a hotel and campground and she agrees to let her stay in one of the rooms in exchange for working at the hotel some cleaning rooms. That’s where she meets Roy Veronica’s grandson and her next victim. She quickly realizes how much money Veronica has and how sweet and gullible Roy is and you learn of her plan to get rid of his grandmother and make him fall in love with her. It also hints at her murdering her boyfriend Quentin because he didn’t want to follow along with her plans and had pushed her down. She kept referring to him as violent and unhinged. Throughout the book she continues to try to win over Roy and separate him and his girlfriend Savannah which almost works. Overall I was surprised by the way this book went I wasn’t expecting some of the turns it took like finding out Quentin was actually alive and going along with her plans. The author did well stringing along the idea he was dead. But I think my biggest curiosity is who actually Killed Veronica if Charity (Bellany) didn’t. My suspicion is the couple Mr and Mrs Smith. I find it odd that they would randomly blurt out to a stranger about how Victoria took their son and is blackmailing them to keep quiet. It just doesn’t make sense they would trust someone so new to town so I’m wondering if they did it and think they can take advantage of a “sweet innocent girl” I’m mad that Bellany got away once again but I’m curious to see where her journey leads to next.

This was the second book in her series. I found this slightly more intriguing. (Spoilers ahead). Bellamy leaves NC and moves to Chehalis, Washington. This intrigues me as someone raised in this area of Washington State. How did Michele Leathers choose Chehalis? She must have some ties to this area. Back to Bellamy, she reinvents herself as a lady named Charity. She tells everyone that she is on the run from an abusive relationship and prefers to stay quiet and out of site. Everything from Charity, to the grandmother, Samantha (Roy's GF), and of course Roy himself. What does Roy know? Does Charity Succeed?

This one was definitely better than the first. While the writing style and characters are definitely aimed at a high school audience, I found the story to be much more intriguing. I liked the small town setting and the backstories woven into the characters’ lives. There wasn’t as much of a big reveal this time and there wasn’t a central mystery, but I read this one much quicker and enjoyed it.

Book two in the They Had a Reason series. This book is for sure a slow burn. More than half of the book is just setting up the plot, and I feel as if some of it could have been left out. There were parts that also felt unfinished, as if they could have gone on longer instead of just other fillers throughout. By the time the action came, it was already over. Overall an ok book, it kept me involved.

This book was definitely better than the first, loved both storylines, but this one had more depth. It kept me very interested. I think it was written better too, although I'm not sure I liked how much it jumped back and forth through the different characters. I'm actually curious to see where Bellany heads next, what scheems will be on the horizon. This book was definitely better than the first, loved both storylines, but this one had more depth. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I was not a fan. Too much silly inner drama. And the city it was based in was all wrong. It's mostly flat and no where close to sea and far enough away from mountains that the hotel wouldn't be in mountains. The city is pretty big and would have a lot of hotels but all would have been flooded. The place floods during heavy rain. I was not a fan. Too much silly inner drama. I fell in love with this series due to this book. A lot of people say that it is what a middle schooler would read, and yes, it is. But the story line of this book is a lot more violent then the first one. So that seems like it is more aimed at high schools. But the way it is written seems more aimed at middle schoolers. Overall, this was a really good book.

I grabbed this book at target one day when I was looking for a book to read at the beach. I read it in a day and a half, and I am not an active reader... well until I finished this book. This is the the book that got be addicted to reading. It was great and just up my ally. Action and a bit mysterious in the crime way. I would recommend this book if you want an easy and mindless read.

this book got kind of painful to read in the middle. the start was strong and i really saw it going somewhere but it got too caught up in minor details that dragged on throughout the whole thing. at the very end it all picked up and by the time you got into it, it was over. i don’t think i’ll continue reading the series if the next books are anything like this one.

Could use a little more spice This book was not as good as the first. It was a little slow and not as suspenseful as the first. There were some exciting parts to the book. Ready for the next book.

More than half of the book is getting ready for the plot twist, a little too much fluff, but some things needed more details. Like we needed more of what happened in the woods? Or why was Bellany + Quintin having behind the scenes convo never shared. Like what??

Wow. I am so intrigued by this series. I immediately started reading the next book because it has me hooked. I like the minimal connections between the series. It is like you’re reading a new book but with refreshers from the past. Quick read. Excited for the next book!

Better then the first. Was not expecting the second book to be way better, but it definitely is! Didn't want to put it down, kept me on the edge of my seat. Becoming one of my favorite series. This one was good too. It was equally as good as the first one, I thought. I still noticed it needed some proofreading because there were some typos and the use of the word "shutter" when it should have been "shudder." This one was good too. I like that this book focuses on Bellany and shows things from her point of view. Enjoyed it more than the first one.
