Alice in Monsterland: An Extreme Horror Short

Availability: Ready to download

Alice didn't want to be here. She was too old for it. Too tall. But when the door is answered by a very well dressed young man - in full vampire outfit - she couldn't stop herself from being drawn in to the house. A costume party. The perfect way to while away the night while her father got drunk at home. But for Alice, it quickly became the worst night of her life.  Alice didn't want to be here. She was too old for it. Didn't have anything to do with Alice in Wonderland incase your wondering. Not a bad little horror story though. Will check out more from this author. Short and sweet with lots of violence. Not too bad at all. 2 and a half stars. Didn't have anything to do with Alice in Wonderland incase your wondering. Not a bad little horror story though. Will check out more from this author. Taken from "Small Cuts to the Psyche", this short story was a fun read. I loved being able to see and feel Alice's experiences as she road her bike down the streets. Contemplation... I could relate to her sense of "adulthood" when she conversed with the older man. What young teenager doesn't believe she's capable of handling anything "weird"? I loved how the use of descriptive wording at the beginning of the story kept my reading speed at a calm pace. Nothing bad was happening. We were just cruising the neighborhood. Alice was choosing the better of two bad options - go out. To stay home meant probable servitude. The deeper we went into the story, the fewer the descriptions were made. There just wasn't any time. Things were quickly happening. I can honestly say, I did NOT see this ending... even as the door unlocked, opened, and then the question was heard. My mind was still believing something completely different. I now need to read "Small Cuts"!!

Unexpected It was not at all what I imagined when I downloaded this book but I did base it off the title alone. Not a Alice in wonderland retelling but definitely worth the read! The poor young girl tries to catch a break from her horrible life at home only to be dragged back into a bad situation. The twist of it being regular kids is great and the ending was perfect. The writing semi threw me off at some points but not enough to drop it entirely. I know what the author was trying to accomplish with that style but it didn’t work for me. Still a great read and recommend it to anyone who likes a short story with death, classic monsters, and twists

This is a quick read that is incredibly written and completely difficult to put down. I love short stories because of these really awesome stories like this one - I have to read it through at the expense of my sleep! This book did not keep me up reading. Thinking about it, yes, but not reading. I love it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

2.5 stars. I downloaded this thinking it was an alice in wonderland reimagining but it wasnt. I did find this a page turner although it felt I couldnt understand or relate to any of the characters. Still a spooky little read though.

Never go into a strange house We all have been in the let's say hard head mood, as that old saying goes, a hard head can make a soft butt. Never go into a strange house We all have been in the let's say hard head mood, as that old saying goes, a hard head can make a soft butt.

Not what I expected, but mildly entertaining. Nice to see a strong female lead.
