DNF - Review is based on the first three chapters. Presumably, this book is about how mental illness led to suicide and murder within a family. Ben killed his son, Ben killed himself, Ben's sister Laura committed suicide, and the author's husband died all in the space of five years. Seems like a fascinating story with multiple facets that can shed light on how to best help those dealing with mental illness as well as those dealing with the fallout. Ben killed his son, Ben killed himself, Ben's sister Laura committed suicide, and the author's husband died all in the space of five years. Seems like a fascinating story with multiple facets that can shed light on how to best help those dealing with mental illness as well as those dealing with the fallout. Unfortunately, in the three chapters I read, nothing of the sort was discussed. These chapters all dealt with the author's experience after the death of her husband from a heart attack. Internet dating, shopping habits, ridding herself of the "prude" label given by her husband, marital issues, her teaching career, retirement, bankruptcy, and myriad other aspects of the author's life. The chapters are incredibly repetitive. Many times it is stated that the murder and suicides occur without any further information. It's as though the author is attempting to remind us of what the book is about without actually writing about that experience. I feel for the family dealing with the fallout from these events. However, this book feels like an attempt to divert attention to the author herself. Perhaps it improves in further chapters and if this is the case, the beginning chapters need to be edited out as they offer no bearing on the story suggested by the title.

This book is not well written, with repetitive scenes and dialogue and way too many exclamation points.
