From the publisher, as I do not repeat the contents or story of books in reviews, I let them do it as they do it better than I do 😸. (Adults do this to … emotional abuse isn’t pretty: I have an ex who did this but I didn’t realize it until I left him!) Kids and their parents will get a lot from this excellently written book – the ideas are clear and simple to do. In fact, I used one of the techniques last night when I could not fall asleep. As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🧘 🧘 🧘 🧘 🧘 This book is also cross reviewed at http://www.facebook.com/janetsbookcorner AND will be on Amazon.ca and Amazon.com after its release date.

The meditations are grouped in categories for increasing your positive energy, improving concentration and creativity, and opening your heart to kindness and compassion. There is an entire chapter of meditations just for bedtime, to soothe and calm the mind and body. Each meditation has a cute illustration that demonstrates the imaginary things we are thinking of during the meditation. One meditation says to imagine that you are wearing a warm jacket on a cold day. You zip up the jacket from your belly button to your neck, and as you zip it up your spine straightens and you sit up tall. There is an illustration of an animal wearing a jacket with fall leaves all around them. I love how imaginative and different all the meditations are! They really use creative ways to get a child to listen and be still. I love the meditations about analyzing your own feelings and finding ways to ask for help if you need it. It's just right for little kids, and speaks to them on their level while guiding them to understand themselves. There are so many good messages about peace, compassion, and happiness in this book! I can't wait to share these meditations with my little nieces! Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a free and honest review. As a yoga/mindfulness teacher and South Asian-American mom, I have been integrating meditation, mindfulness, and compassion-based activities into my kids lives for as long as they can remember. Practicing with them in ways that just seamlessly fit into our daily lives enriches not only their lives. It enriches my own growth as a parent. THIS is the book I wish I had to reinforce everything we were practicing when they were younger. For kids to be able to see these kinds of life affirming practices come alive in an illustrated book is priceless. Don't get me wrong - kids innately know and feel the benefits of meditation. At the same time, it helps them to also see that other kids and families are doing the same things. It invites them to value these wisdom practices even more. In Meditation for Kids, author Tejal V. Patel has thoughtfully laid out a beautiful series of yoga practices that inspires connections to intention, focus, compassion, curious exploration, and relaxation - all of the necessary components for mindful living. The wide variety of exercises allow parents to tailor their practice to the needs of their child in the moment and are sure to inspire moments of connection families will treasure in years to come.

Each activity is labeled with it's intended purpose (i.e. "Mindful Moment:Moving through Big Feelings), as well as a recommendation for when to use the activity and an explanation for how or why the activity works. I especially liked the explanations for the activities; this can be very helpful with a child going through the "Why?" phase. I love that all the activities in this book are activities that the author, Tejal V Patel, does with her children as seen on Instagram. This book contains adorable illustrations! I highly recommend this book for anyone who has children or who works with children.

Each activity is explained clearly and suggestions are given for when an activity may be helpful and why it works.  My impression is that doing some of these activities with children, especially now, could be very helpful.  Adults could try them too. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.  I will be using this title.

Meditation for Kids is book of 40 mindfulness exercises for kids 4-8. I've done a few with my almost five year-old, and have been very impressed. There's a wide variety of exercises for different moods/needs, such as focusing, dealing with anger, and relaxing. The exercises are fun and age appropriate and utilize kid-friendly imagery ("imagine you're a frog sitting on a lily pad") to engage children. Not every exercise engaged my child, but with 40 different meditations, you can pick and choose. Meditation for Kids is book of 40 mindfulness exercises for kids 4-8. My only wish was that there were more, particularly relaxation ones that involve lying down for going to bed. Overall this is a great little book. I had an electronic copy, but I think it would be even more useful in hard copy to easily refer back to different exercises, and so that your children can see the fun illustrations.

I received this as a review copy from Netgalley. This day and age children need to relax and take a moment to be introspective. I have often found myself wanting to do this in my own classroom. But, found it hard to explain in terms easy for my kids to understand. This book gives a teacher the tools to help her students meditate and gives the child the ability to calm/relax themselves. My kids love when we just sit and listen to ocean sounds but having this book as a guide and a way to help them I received this as a review copy from Netgalley. It should be a book all teachers have on hand to help them. I am a firm believer in meditation and helping students have a way for them to express themselves or calm themselves down.

This helpful book is a great resource for parents and teachers alike. This book is sorted into five different chapters, each based on a different principle of mindfulness: increasing energy/setting intentions, improving concentration, kindness/connection to self, others and the world, encouraging creativity, and relaxation. Each page has a different mindfulness activity and suggests ideas of when to use it and why the activity works. Wow!  This book is spot on!  I never thought much about meditation for kids but this lays it out perfectly.  It has very relatable visualizations and is easy to understand and do. It’s a wonderful foundation for good mental health. It’s also a great reminder to adults that meditation doesn’t have to be long and difficult!  The Happy Hummingbird is my favorite! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Disclaimer I received a copy of this book via NetGalley. 3.5 stars I appreciated the rise of meditation books for kids. As someone who formerly worked with children of all ages, these strategies are very helpful for them to deal with complicated emotions and situations. This book shines in the easy to understand explanations and how it scaffolds concepts for children.

Not as helpful as I’d hoped. Would be better for younger children. The language & imagery used were more preschool geared.
