This is a great cozy mystery series, totally different from other books in the genre. Characters are colorful and well-drawn, prose and dialogue flow steadily, and the mystery itself has an emotional, almost haunting, appeal. I have not yet read the previous book, but this story easily stands alone. Belinda Blake is an appealing leading lady, smart and with an unusual mixture of talents – from video gaming, to a vast knowledge of animals, and even detecting skills. She’s intelligent, quick thinking, and caring of friends and family. I connected with her from the very first sentence … Rainy weather was an introvert’s best friend. Yes! Belinda is an exotic pet sitter, and that doesn’t mean cats and dogs. In the normal scheme of things, I would not like this series at all. Belinda’s client in the previous book was a snake, and I don’t have adequate words to describe how I feel about reptiles. This story involves wolves, albeit in a wildlife preserve setting, but I don’t have a fondness for this predator either. With a fresh and unique approach, however, the author has created an endearing series with stories that capture the emotions and are hard to put down. Belinda’s connections place her in two worlds, that of upstate New York and then Greenwich, Connecticut, where this story takes place. A strong supporting cast adds depth, including Belinda’s pregnant sister and a chauffeur with some pretty impressive protective skills. Two guys also seem to be interested in her, a home-town neighbor named Jonas and a wealthy gentleman in Greenwich, Stone Carrington the fifth. I don’t care for love triangles, but don’t really know if there’s one here because Stone only appears briefly in the closing pages. I’m definitely pulling for the warm and caring Jonas, with whom Belinda shares great chemistry. “I know this sounds impossible – but I think someone’s framing the wolves.” - Belinda The wolves become major characters and I came to care about them through the author’s skillful storytelling. One in particular, Freya, came from a horribly abusive background. All were rescues and some were born in captivity. Early on, I had to ask myself if the true predator was animal, human, or maybe a combination of both. Fortunately, all is not as it seems on the surface. It was interesting to learn about the behavior and care of wolves, and I was intrigued by these creatures. It’s one thing to gain knowledge, but the best books have the ability to change preconceived opinions, and this story definitely changed my perception of the wolf. Belinda Blake and the Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing is an outstanding cozy mystery and I look forward to much more from Heather Day Gilbert. Highly recommended. I received a copy of this book through Great Escapes. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I absolutely adore this series. My favorite aspects of the book are the lovable, well developed characters, humor, several murders that kept me guessing until the end, unique settings and careers, and not an ounce of content or bad language. This series is so incredibly fun. I highly recommend it to all cozy mystery fans! 4.5 stars

Belinda is smart, funny and and not afraid of very much. She has to be brave in her line of work because she never knows what animal she will have to deal with. The secondary characters added a lot to the story. The writing style flows smoothly and it defined the characters by their actions and words. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book, I felt like I was right there, watching the wolves in their habitats. I liked the fact that I got to learn a little bit about wolves while enjoying a great read. The mystery is well plotted and carried on well throughout the book. There were plenty of clues to sift through and suspects to consider, and although the culprit was one of suspects I contemplated, I was not completely sure until the reveal. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. And if you like animals then this is a must read. I cannot wait to read the next one. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

With her checking account getting low, she hesitantly takes a job helping out at a wolf preserve where the owner is desperate for help. When a couple of employees are found dead inside the enclosure of one of the wolf packs, she almost left. Things don't add up that the wolves killed them. That means it is homicide. But who? There are several people that Belinda suspects but who and why would someone do this? Who has something to gain? Belinda's family and good friend Jonas from home want her to quit but she hangs in there to find the killer as she begins to feel comfortable with the wolves. Sort of. Great quick cozy read with a surprise, to me, ending! I received a complimentary ARC from Lyrical Underground and Kensington Books. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.

If I had to get inside a wolf enclosure to give them water for a temp job, I would be nervous too! Belinda Blake is way braver than I would be, and I love following her adventures from swanky Greenwich to the rustic wolf preserve. She’s sweet and sassy and relatable, despite the exotic animals she tends. I love that her best friends are her family, and I love the ‘guy next door’ even more, especially when his eyes give away his feelings for Belinda (even though she’s a little clueless lol). Jonas (said guy next door) is super swoony and steady at the same time. He truly cares for Belinda, and while their budding romance is moving slowly I can’t wait to see how the author continues to develop their friendship. Belinda’s pregnant sister is equally delightful, and I love her mama bear tendencies toward her little sis. Her occupation as a psychologist comes in handy, too, as she helps Belinda talk through the suspects. I love Red too – everyone needs a Red on their side! Gilbert gives personality and heart to the wolf packs that Belinda is helping with at the preserve, while also keeping them true to their wild nature. I fell in love with Njord & Freya especially and, even though nearly all the humans at the preserve are a bit of a hot mess, I hope we get to see the wolves again. The double murder mystery takes several unexpected twists and turns and definitely keeps Belinda – and readers – on her toes. It’s well-plotted and nicely paced, smart and entertaining. Bottom Line: Belinda Blake and the Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing is everything I love about cozy mysteries – and more! Belinda is a delightful heroine, and her interactions with the exotic pets in her care have now made me love a snake & a couple of wolves too. The story is well-written with wit and heart, as well as more layers and depth than we usually see in cozies. Add in a wealth of potential suspects & some surprising twists and reveals … and a simmering romance with a swoony fella … and you’ve got another must-read from this author. Outside of the mystery, I really enjoy Belinda's character and her multiple talents.  Who else could review video games and be an exotic pet sitter at the same time?!  A potential career change is suggested to her at the end of the book and she is seriously considering the change.  I'm not going to tell you what, you'll have to read the book and find out.  Belinda also has some love interests...although I am perplexed at the potential relationship with Jonas because I thought in the first book he was in a relationship with someone else.  Perhaps he broke up with that woman and I just don't remember...that is very possible as many books as I read! Overall we give this book 5 paws up and await the next book in this series.

The good news is that Belinda Blake’s reputation as an exotic pet sitter is expanding all throughout the well-to-do Greenwich community. Yet the more Belinda gets entangled with the odd cast of characters surrounding the White Pine Wolf Reserve, the more she begins to suspect the authorities are barking up the wrong tree, while a very human murderer is still roaming free. Belinda Blake and the Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing is a fun and engrossing follow up to Belinda Blake and the Snake in the Grass. It would be highly entertaining as a standalone, but reading it in order makes it even easier to become immersed in Belinda’s offbeat brain and colorful community and family. Fans of classic whodunnits will eat up this book’s expertly-placed clues and suspenseful predicaments like wolves with fresh meat, and all readers will find it hard to resist Belinda’s charming knack for finding trouble and sniffing out crime. 3.5 stars "Was this whole thing some kind of elaborate mind game?" What on earth had she gotten herself into? Exotic pet sitter Belinda Blake expected "off the beaten path"; it was the nature of her occupation, but when her first day on the job at the White Pine Wolfe Preserve brings here face to face with a mangled body, she is second guessing her decision to sign on the dotted line. . . . no matter how much she needed the income. Staying the course, Belinda determines to remain on the job. But 3.5 stars "Was this whole thing some kind of elaborate mind game?" What on earth had she gotten herself into? And then, again; the unthinkable happens. Enjoy this author's ability to pen picture-perfect-perplexity; she makes quirky totally acceptable and normal totally questionable. Thank goodness Belinda has sweet, solid Jonas in her life . . . . or is it the handsome, hedge fund whiz kid that should be garnering the most attention?

With bills mounting, however, the decision becomes easier. After all, Belinda would just have to assist the primary feeder for eight days while the owner was out of town, what could be easier? But when a jovial young tour guide is found dead, bloodied and surrounded by wolves inside one of the enclosures, Belinda has second thoughts. When the wolves are accused of more violent acts, Belinda admits that things aren't adding up. Are the wolves truly to blame, or are they being framed? Wolves tend to get a bad rap. Maligned by many, these majestic beasts are often misunderstood and vilified. Even Belinda Blake is wary about working with them. Yet, even when suspected of killing and maiming the people trying to care for them, the wolves at White Pines Wolf Preserve are shown to be friendly and loyal. At least readers are afforded the ability to see them in that unprejudiced way, some of the characters may have different opinions. The second Exotic Pet-Sitter Mystery looks at wolf sanctuaries and the sad ways many of its residents arrive. It also looks at family, loyalty, and bravery, traits associated with wolves as well as humans. I appreciate how Belinda keeps an open mind and is smart enough not to jump to conclusions...for the most part. The dynamics of the characters is riveting, both at the preserve and outside of it. We learn more about Red, and see Belinda face some important romantic decisions. BELINDA BLAKE AND THE WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING is an engrossing mystery with many different angles. I, for one, would love to meet the wolves I read about in this story, especially Freya and Njord. The two most important themes running through this book are that love shows itself in many forms and people are not always what they seem. Beware the wolf in sheep's clothing. FTC Disclosure – The publisher sent me a digital ARC provided through NetGalley, in the hopes I would review it.

The 2nd installment of the exotic pets mystery series. In this installment Belinda gets a job at the White Pines Wolf reserve and she is slightly nervous of working with wolves and of course her nerves don’t get any better when dead bodies begin showing up. Belinda gets to the bottom of the deaths and this is a good fast paced story. The story shows us that humans are the nastier of the animal kingdom and not the wolves! Good addition to this series.

This is the first book I've read by this author. I found the characters to be colorful and the story is well told. As an exotic pet sitter, Belinda has seen her share of weird things, but to think someone is framing the wolves she's looking after is ridiculous, or is it? The story is well told and I enjoyed reading about the wolves and their pack mentality. I think to fully understand Belinda, the first book should be read to get a full understanding of her role as per sitter. Thank you to NetGalley This is the first book I've read by this author. I enjoyed this one even more than the first so I am definitely looking forward to reading Book 3. *I received this book free from Netgalley and publisher Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review. Belinda Blake and the Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing by Heather Day Gilbert was one of the most satisfying cozies I have read. It just hit my reading sweet spot. The characters and story will stay with me as will the fear and trepidation. If I could, I would pick up book three, and start reading immediately. Thoughts? First, while you can read this as a stand-alone, it will flow better if you read the books in order. Secondly, this cozy was totally satisfying...from the first word to last. First, while you can read this as a stand-alone, it will flow better if you read the books in order. Secondly, this cozy was totally satisfying...from the first word to last. The mystery involved animals, it was believable, and it moved along at a good pace. I was both in awe of the wolves and terrified of them at the same time. There were several quirky characters, but this is the Greenwich area, non? Gilbert draws some characters in ways that will cause you to love them, others are written to be abhorred, but all are mysterious and possible schemers. Finding the killer before she/he finds Belinda eluded me. Thirdly, we begin to see a pretty interesting love triangle develop. Where is book three?! Ah, Sigh! Fourthly, there were plenty of humorous lines to off-set the seriousness of the subject, keeping this fun novel well within the « cozy» parameters. Available Oct. 1st or you can pre-order. I received an ARC complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher through NetGalley. This did not affect my opinions which are solely my own.

Belinda Blake is a pet sitter for the 21st century! Belinda is a brave animal lover and a brilliant video game reviewer and amateur sleuth. The characters in this second of a new series are delightful, the setting gorgeous, and the solution hard to unmask. The characters in this second of a new series are delightful, the setting gorgeous, and the solution hard to unmask. We get to know Belinda, who I really like, better, even as she learns more about herself through the mirror of long-time friend, Jonas. Belinda lives in a guest house in Greenwich, CT and has been expanding her exotic pet sitting business here as well as going into Manhattan for repeat clients. The guest house is on the Carrington estate, where she recently helped solve murders of friends of Stone Carrington Fifth, adult son of the owners. Belinda gets an urgent call requesting her services, so she can’t turn it down…even if it is at a wolf preserve. Dahlia is the owner of White Pine Wolf Preserve. She is going to visit a preserve in Arizona. Belinda will help the primary feeder with chores for the wolves and hobby farm animals. She has the pleasure of meeting Evie, Dahlia’s personal assistant, and Shaun, the best tour guide; he recognizes her from her gaming reviews in a popular publication. Despite the hold harmless disclaimer in the contract, there haven’t been injuries there in the past, so Belinda signs for the eight days. On the first day, Belinda meets Rich, the man who feeds the wolves. Rich has known the wolves since the facility opened. One wolf, Njord, was born in captivity, and Rich was present at his birth. Rich feeds the wolves by hand and will continue to do so. Belinda will fill their water troughs. At the first of two pack enclosures, she meets Freya, who had been badly abused before being taken into the preserve. Freya wants to become friends at first sight, rolling over onto her back for a good belly rub. Rich and Belinda meet a grisly sight when approaching the second enclosure. Njord has a dark red stain on his beautiful fur. Lying inside the entry is a staff member wearing one of the bright-green vests, dead. Words can’t express how strongly I felt Belinda’s reaction! It is hard to imagine that the wolf, handled by humans since birth, would turn, at least until the other two wolves in that pack are seen with similar stains on their fur. The police sergeant, Jacob Hardy, doesn’t disguise his feelings about the death of the staff member. I am surprised he didn’t demand that they be taken into quarantine. This is an intense and challenging mystery! I appreciate the research the author has done on wolves and incorporates into the story, and how Veronica, one of the tour guides, is using what she learns at the preserve for her master’s thesis. I also enjoy seeing Belinda spend time with Jonas, as they were such close friends when growing up. Of the two guys in her life, he would be my choice, but time will tell what Belinda chooses. Discovering the source of the staff member’s death, and other situations that arise far too quickly, was a challenge. While I did get to the first step before Belinda, I got to the rest of the staircase at the same time. I would be scared to death to get into some of the situations Belinda does! I highly recommend this novel to fans of the author and those who appreciate well-executed cozy mysteries, very likable characters, and unique pet sitting opportunities. From a thankful heart: I received a copy of the ebook from the publisher through NetGalley, and this is my honest review.

Belinda Blake and the Wolf in Sheep's Clothing is the second installment in the Exotic Pet-Sitter series set in the well to do community of Greenwich, CT and featuring exotic pet sitter Belinda Blake. After her recent job sitting a ball python, Belinda is looking forward to working at her second job of reviewing video games and waiting for the next pet sitting gig to come her way. After her recent job sitting a ball python, Belinda is looking forward to working at her second job of reviewing video games and waiting for the next pet sitting gig to come her way. She isn't prepared for the call from the owner of the White Pine Wolf Preserve, asking if she'd be willing to come and take care of wolves for a few weeks. Making her way to the preserve Belinda learns that she'll be responsible for helping with the daily feeding of the six canines along with tending to the peacocks, chickens and goats. Already feeling a little shaky about going into the cages loaded down with raw meat, her first day goes quickly down hill when she discovers one of the preserve guides dead and being chewed up by the wolves. Things don't feel right about the death and Belinda begins to wonder why the guide was even in the cage and more importantly why the gates were padlocked shut from the outside. Despite the warnings from her family and friends not to return to the job, Belinda goes back only to find another employee dead in one of the cages. Now it's up to her to find out if she's going to be part of the White Pine pack or become prey to a killer. A fast paced, page turning plot from beginning to end. The author does a fantastic job of drawing the reader into the lives of Belinda, her family and friends and the exotic creatures she watches. A fantastic addition in a not to be missed series! I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley via Lyrical Underground, a division of Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.

My Thoughts: I read the first Belinda Blake mystery just last week and was treated to a unique new cozy mystery series. Wolf in Sheep's Clothing picks up in the life of Belinda, so we find out what she's been up to since the last book and where life is taking her now. If you read the books out of order, you'll catch a spoiler or two involving Belinda's personal life but the previous mystery wasn't ruined.  Gilbert has a solid writing style. It's engaging. Not overdone, not underdone, but done just right. ;)  The only struggle I had with Wolf in Sheep's Clothing was that it felt like it took too long to dig into the investigation portion of the story. But once things picked up, and we were focused and collecting clues, I found the mystery to be spot-on. The clues were there but the conclusion wasn't obvious. It ended on a great note for me! The characters are as well-developed as the mystery. They came across as genuine people. There was just enough romance in the story to make me eager to see what will happen next.  I typically read and review Christian fiction, so I do want to point out that this fell in the clean fiction category. There was not anything that would be offensive to a Christian reader, however, there was not any spiritual content.  Rating and Recommendation: I'm giving this one 4.5 stars and recommending it to cozy mystery fans.  ~ I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley. I tagged along with her as she got acquainted with them, as she learned to care for them, and when she stumbled on the first victim. I followed her lead as she pondered and questioned, in her mind and aloud, and investigated. I cautioned her and I cheered and applauded her. You might think that after pet-sitting a ball python, Belinda Blake can handle anything, but she’s not too sure about wolves. Yes, it’s a rehabilitation sanctuary, and yes, they seem friendly, but they’re still wild animals. With sharp teeth. But the wolf preserve is short-staffed and she doesn’t want to let the owner down. Once she begins to suspect someone staged the “wolf attack” to shut down the preserve, she’s determined to stay. I’m enjoying this series for the mysteries, but also for the characters. Belinda is a computer gamer and book-lover, transplanted from a rural environment into a wealthy neighbourhood. Jonas, one of her friends from home, looks promising as a love interest, although her landlord’s absent son caught her attention in book one. And Red, the chauffeur/bodyguard on the estate where she rents a carriage house, is an interesting background character. For the literary and theme-inclined, there are some interesting correlations between Belinda’s story and the novel her long-distance book club is discussing. The Great Gatsby is not a book I know well, so I missed some of the effect. Favourite lines: “…it was beyond me how I would feed raw eat to wolves without looking like an oversized, tasty morsel myself.” [Kindle location 260] And when one of the other characters laments the need to lean so much on others, Belinda observes: “Sometimes leaning is the only way to stay upright.” [Kindle location 1566] Definitely recommended for cozy mystery fans! Heather Day Gilbert is an award-winning author of Viking historical fiction and contemporary suspense as well as the Belinda Blake, Exotic Pet Sitter cozy mystery series. Belinda Blake and the Wolf in Sheep's Clothing is book 2 in the series. For more about the author, visit heatherdaygilbert.com. [Review copy provided by NetGalley and Kensington Books. Belinda Blake does it again! I'm really finding myself enjoying this series, more than I expected, considering that cozy mysteries are not really my preferred genre. Heather Gilbert has the ability to write a short mystery that really packs a punch! There are lots of strange and unusual characters to be found in this story, and I wasn't quite sure which one to suspect. There are some surprising twists, and some unexpected elements, and it all combines to make a really fun mystery. I especially like Belinda Blake does it again! This is the second book in a series, and they can be read as stand-alones, but overall, I think the storyline will make more sense if you've read the first one before reading this one.
