An amazing read that serves as a reminder to have the right type of women in your life. 3.5 What an uplifting book! Angela L. White (with Erin Keeley Marshall) works through the importance of being surrounded by people capable of encouraging and speaking truth. We CAN! Angelia White’s “Yes Sisters,” written with Erin Keeley Marshall, forms a handbook of sorts for women who are seeking to find or to become Yes Sisters, who encourage, speak truth, and help us become the best Christ-followers that we can be. As the appellation suggests, Yes Sisters should be women who support us and cheer us on while not being afraid to (lovingly) tell us what we need to hear: “Yes Sisters pursue and celebrate the potential in other women. They thoughtfully seek what’s below the surface. They give honor to the special beauty in someone else.” White connects this with our faith walk by delving into the qualities of God, including the yeses and nos that He gives us. “Yes Sisters” is divided into three parts, with the first comprised of affirmations for women and also about God; the second focusing on moving forward with what God has placed on our hearts; and the third a look into becoming a Yes Sister, forgiving the No Sisters we have encountered on our journey, and learning about Yes Sisters found in the Bible. Each chapter opens with a relevant Scripture verse, and between each chapter is A Word from a Yes Sister, short stories of insight from a variety of Christian women. The essence of this book may be found within the chapters themselves, as this is where White shares her own personal tragedies and triumphs, making “Yes Sisters” infinitely relatable and inspiring for women of all ages and all walks of life. Chapter 8, Our Faith Will Sustain Us, is one of my favorites. I particularly enjoyed the message regarding trusting God: “Instead of beating ourselves up for not trusting Him more, we need to see that the very act of admitting our need for Him reveals our trust. Something in us knows we need Him first and foremost. That something is faith.” Whether you are a new Christian or a long-time disciple, “Yes Sisters” will uplift and enlighten you along your walk with the Lord, with faithful sisters by your side. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Yes Sisters is about the importance of having healthy and strong friendship with other women. Yes Sisters written by Angelia White shares how we can say that yes and hope that we don’t have to do life alone. We’re better, stronger, and braver together. I enjoyed reading the book but felt disconnected. I am one who never had a close group of Yes Sisters of close friends. Yes, I struggled and still do. The idea of Yes Sisters is completely foreign to me. The author reminds us that God loves us and that we can accomplish what we set out to do. Based on the book’s description I was hoping for a more “how-to” on navigating the world of increased empowerment as a Christian woman. Unfortunately, the book was more of a series of anecdotes (some of which were even fictional used). It fell short in my expectation in that regard. I did, however, find some bright spots within the book (humor, encouragement for women to say yes to the important parts of life), and would recommend it to friends based on what I know now. I love this catchy title and all that it stands for. Every female needs a friend or group of friends who will be open and honest in a positive way, and help her stay focused on what’s right, pure, and true. Yes Sisters could easily become required mentorship or women’s ministries reading material because, in reality, once you read this book, you’ll see yourself already in action, or you’ll recognize areas that need improvement. You’ll discover the importance of being supportive and encouraging. I love this catchy title and all that it stands for. You’ll discover the importance of being supportive and encouraging. You’ll read about the personal experiences of others and how their yes sister made a difference in their lives. Yes Sisters will point you to Jesus. They challenge you to develop a personal relationship with Him and learn to trust and seek Him in every area of your life. Yes Sisters will help you see how beautiful you really are. True beauty comes from the inside and radiates outwardly. Too many women look at physical appearances and develop opinions. Your physical appearance or color of your skin doesn’t make you who you are. It’s the condition of your heart and the way you think about yourself that affects your overall countenance and attitude. A yes sister offers affirmation and helps you see the real and amazing you. Every woman desires to be happy and longs to be accepted. A yes sister will help you see those in your life who are negative and who discourage you from reaching for your dreams. She will walk you through areas where forgiveness is necessary and where true peace originates. Women need each other. Yes, you have your family, your husband, your children, or your pet, but a true, positive, caring, compassionate, loving yes sister will always lift your spirit and help you find the better you. I love this book. I may have ad-libbed some in this review, but there is so much truth discussed on each page and so much more to say. Men need men in this way too. I’d love for Angelia to write a “Got Your Back, Brother” book for men. Utilizing the principles in the Bible and the suggestions in this book could create a new era of happy, confident, successful women. I highly recommend this book! I give it five stars. If there were ten stars, I’d give it a ten. I received a free copy of this book for my honest review. All thoughts are my own.

You have been given a unique place in God's Kingdom. Angelia L. White in her book Yes Sisters unwraps the 'secret' to "surrounding yourself with women who affirm, encourage, and and challenge you" toward success as you determine to find and live out your Kingdom purpose. With our personal relationship with Jesus as the foundation of all relationships, Ms. White discusses how mothers, daughters, grandmothers, friends, colleagues, social media, affect our actions and decisions.  Yes, even mean girls are part of life and the author addresses them admirably, without sugar-coating the issue, giving ways to deal with them in a loving manner. Her many suggestions for building and maintaining daily interactions with our Yes Sisters are right on target. One of the outstanding parts of this book are the short stories/essays from a variety of other authors and speakers.  They provided a perspective from other points of view that enhanced and supported the narrative. Here are some of my favorite quotes from Yes Sisters: Building our lives on His love and learning to look to Him for our value guides us in knowing who we really are. (p. 42) God created women specially to reflect His beauty in and around us. (p. 56) Dare to reach out. Dare to risk. Dare to say yes to letting others into your life. None of us needs to have it all together. We all just need to remember we are better together. Holley Gerth (p. 88) Genuine truth is never meant to diminish, but to beautify. (p. 150) Each individual changes history. (p. 204) If I can't think of a single way it could benefit the kingdom or give glory to God, I will most likely say no, stay silent, or look for a way to say what needs to be said with love as my motivation rather than my own interests. Candace Cameron Bure (p. 216) This book is loaded with many suggestions and ideas for developing and supporting your own group of Yes Sisters.  I highly recommend it.

I understand the challenge: When students move to the front of the classroom to speak, they see their classmates, and even worse, they see their teacher, the scowl of judgment etched on his rapidly aging features. Suffice it to say that I consider audience one of the paramount features of communication. Regarding Yes Sisters, I had the rare privilege of reading a book written by one of my former students. It is not often that I can claim acquaintanceship with a published author. If I were wearing a cap when I finished the book, I would have tipped it to Angelia White, because the concept of audience was plainly at the forefront of her thinking when she wrote this book. Were Yes Sisters written for class, Angelia might have gotten an A on her consideration of her audience alone. But it is precisely such consideration that makes it hard for me to assess Yes Sisters. The book is unequivocally addressed to 1. women, and 2. Christians, whereas I am 1. a man, and 2. a heathen. I can say this much. I do not for one syllable doubt Angelia's sincerity. She tackles the subject matter of each chapter with radiant energy. Angelia believes what she is saying. She has peppered her narrative with citations from scriptures and with the words of inspirational women whom she knows personally (and a few who I know personally too). So her words come across as heartfelt and genuine. Like the very best students in my classes, she also provides pertinent examples to illustrate the concepts she espouses. I am a nut for examples, and Angelia does not hold back, though she makes clear in some instances that the names have been changed to protect the innocent. I am afraid I am too much on the outside to comment much about her content beyond what I have already said, but I di believe that women of faith will find much inspirational about this book.

Considering this is a book review of Angelia White's Yes Sisters, I just want to briefly say there are some women out there who undeservingly resemble a form of Cinderella: they are beautiful, they have something to offer life and to the community, but also they are often marginalized, mistreated, and even held back by those who either love them or who don't care about their dreams. With that said, I believe everyone ought to rise to their full potential, men and women alike. The bulk and over Considering this is a book review of Angelia White's Yes Sisters, I just want to briefly say there are some women out there who undeservingly resemble a form of Cinderella: they are beautiful, they have something to offer life and to the community, but also they are often marginalized, mistreated, and even held back by those who either love them or who don't care about their dreams. With that said, I believe everyone ought to rise to their full potential, men and women alike. The bulk and overall message of Angelia's book is about finding and surrounding yourself with others who are encouraging and who empower you to be and to do better. It may not always look like it is, but think about this a moment. We're told in Proverbs, "Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful" (Proverbs 27:6). Often we need someone, in love, to do the right thing when encouraging even if it seems harsh. One of the psalmist's wrote, "Let the righteous man strike me; let his rebuke be an act of loving devotion. It is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. For my prayer is ever against the deeds of the wicked" (Psalm 141:5). Do I believe Angelia White does a great job being one of the few strong women who want to lift up, pray for you, and to see you grow as well as encourage you on? You bet I do. Our job isn't simply to be people who are "Yes" people, all the time. Some of the time we need to hear words like "No," or even "Maybe not yet." The thing is to do things in love and to prayerfully watch one another grow in the grace and mercy of Christ Jesus. Those that stick around, no matter how good or bad things might get. That are encouraging, supportive and there to provide comfort when needed. If I need to vent, I can go to my godly friend and vent. She might do the same. I find it extremely helpful to know I’m not alone in my struggles. And when I feel down, she lifts me up (and vice versa). In Yes Sisters, Angelia stresses the importance of those women in our lives. She shows us how to know when we’ve found our soul sisters and how to nurture that relationship. And finally, she shares how we can be a Yes Sister for someone else. Each chapter is separated by a smaller 1-2 page story from a Yes Sister (other authors/speakers) and help to support the ideas in the book. This book would be great for any new time or long time Christian. It’s encouraging and informative. In such a negative world always telling us No, we especially need these types of friends in our lives to say Yes to building us up, cheering us on and challenging us forward. I received a complimentary copy from Revell publisher. The honest thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

We all know the importance of having friends in our lives, but really it is not about having just any old friends--- but having the right kind of friends. That is what Yes Sisters is really all about. No, it's not telling us to surround ourselves with 'Yes Men'... those who will only say yes to whatever it is we ask them, even if it's harmful. It will really offer us some encouragement in our relationships both in the type of friends we want to surround ourselves with, but also in the type of friend we want to be too. It is about the friendships that don't just tell us what we want to hear to make us feel good, but about the friendships that help us to be better women by being real. It has a good combination of both Biblical references, as well as stories from more modern Yes Sisters too. Overall, a good book that I think many women will be able to appreciate and learn from. **I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for consideration. Through this book I was hoping for a blueprint of how to be an empowering friend and what to hunt for in a similar friend.  However, as I started reading Yes Sisters I found I was being given stories, some of which were fictional, as the author attempted to weave stories of women into chapter, some of which were unsuccessful in engaging the reader. There some positives though.  For instance, I think women are often guilty of saying yes to too much.  Authors, Angelia L. It is important to understand when no may really be the best yes, this book has ways to determine and address these cases.  Lastly, my favorite piece of this read came at the end of each chapter.  It is here the author introduces the reader to a “Yes Sister,” creating what is arguably the most empowering piece of this read.  *Disclaimer: A review copy was provided by the publisher.  All opinions are my own.

Yes Sister is the book everyone woman should own! It's a book I would have loved to have when I was in high school and in college. I made friends with people who were not a Yes Sister. Some people are really good at hiding their true selves until way after they have gotten to know enough things about you. Then, they hit you when you least expect it. Not everyone one of them was bad. But most of them were. Reading Yes Sister, I was able to find what to look for in a good friend and how to reciprocate that behavior back. As with everything, being a yes sister we need to give and take. We cannot just take the support and help from others without returning the same gestures back. By giving back what we receive and demonstrating the yes sister example, we can all make a huge difference. I loved the way this book was setup. Angelia White made this read easy to read. This was a good book about the power of female friendships. The author talks about finding a group of women who will enhance our lives and build us up - and how we should do the same for others. We women need as much encouragement as we can get. Yes Sisters is a bright, hopeful book filled with stories of women who will affirm you and help you avoid the No’s in your life. I enjoy the short chapters interspersed with other women’s testimonies of God’s goodness. The author doesn’t avoid tough subjects like abuse, shame and heartache, but helps you choose encouragement and hope instead. While I enjoyed reading this book, its subject is one with which I always feel something of a disconnect. I have never had really close female friends, so the whole idea of a group of Yes Sisters is totally foreign to me. I did enjoy reading the story of Angelia turning her dream into reality and also getting to read about certain events from the perspective of the "Yes Sister" who was involved in it with her. I can see this book being used in a women's ministry to encourage us to support one an While I enjoyed reading this book, its subject is one with which I always feel something of a disconnect. Have you ever read a book that you wished didn’t have to exist? The subtitle reads, “Surrounding yourself with women who affirm, encourage, and challenge you.” How awesome would it be if that was just how people were? Author, Angelia White, traces her story, highlighting the hard times in which she didn’t have people supporting her and pushing her forward and the good times in which one of these “yes sisters” was in her corner. I received this book through Netgalley for review and all thoughts and opinions are my own. With so many women references to their "tribe", gal pals, and other monikers; where do we start? In this book, Angela White uses the term "Yes, Sister" . These are women who build you uo, encourage and challenge you in a godly way to be the best you can be. Growing in faith is our goal as believers. She points to our need to forgive the naysayers and move toward other women who guide and help us grow. It's all about each other! Refreshing read that reminds us that we are in this together. Dee and I read it together and it strengthened the bonds we already had. It really focuses on connecting with the right types of women who empower you to be your best, are happy for you when you succeed, and who never give up when the going gets tough. We both give it a 4 star! Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Pretty good advice overall. I got this book as part of a giveaway and I'm glad I didn't pay for it. I wasn't aware that it would be so religious. However, if you try to read past the religious tones it still has a great message behind it. Pretty good advice overall. I got this book as part of a giveaway and I'm glad I didn't pay for it. Angelia does a great job in this book defining who a Yes Sister is. While reading this book, it made me think about the friendships I have in my life. Am I surrounding myself with the right people? People who are in my corner? People who will point me to God and remind me who I am in Him? People who will challenge me to be the best version of me that I can be? There are several stories shared in this book of women who have been just that for their friends and the strength that has come as a result. The book also goes into no sisters, those people who may not be speaking life into us or encouraging us. Obviously, reading all of this also allows you to look at yourself and see if you're being that person for the yes sisters in your life. I enjoyed this book so much and if the quality of the book is judged by how many parts I highlighted, this was an excellent book. :) I would recommend this to anyone who feels they need to have better discernment on who they allow in their inner circle and also anyone who's trying to be the best friend they can be to other women.

A incredible book of HOPE, so inspiring and beautifully written! So special the relationship we share with our sisters, our lighthouse keepers, the women in our corner. We need them for different seasons in our life, they love us, support us and encourage us to follow our dreams. I loved this book, it really touched my heart! ⭐️💓⭐️💓
