To my surprise, it was an entire book on Philippine history that I was not able to grasp properly until my second year of undergraduate school when the selected passages were required for studying. These readings helped not only in passing a midterm exam, but helped broaden my knowledge and self-learned scholarship of Philippine history and changed my perception of Spanish colonization by reading primary accounts of the period as cited by de la Costa. This book helps serve as a guide for future historians and scholars that aim to read along with the primary documents that are now available online.
