This book had me captivated.. in fact, the whole series is fantastic!!! "Kings of Carrion" is a dystopian genre themed book, and it is the third instalment of the "Juniper Unraveling" series. It is not a light hearted read by any means; but it will hold your attention, and make you feel for the characters that we have gotten to know over the last two books. Keri Lake does a brilliant job of creating such a believable world full of strife and fear. I am amazed that she could create a love story during the hard times these people are experiencing. They are fighting for survival, yet they aren't doing it alone. There is also a familial bond that develops amongst the characters, that its impossible not to become emotionally involved in how everything will turn out. I realize I am being very careful by what I say, and I am speaking very cryptic!! I don't wish to give anything away. I was devastated when I came across a major spoiler about something that happens in the end of this book. I hate when that happens and try very hard not to ever do that to a reader. The biggest point I want to get across about this whole series so far is that it is not to be missed! If you are able to read dark themed books; then this is a must read series! Each book I have read has made it in my "Best of" books for the year. This one will be in my Best of 2020 for sure! I can't wait to see what is in store for us in book four! Bring it on!!!

I was lucky enough to beta read Kings of Carrion a few months back and I STILL can't stop thinking about it. I worship at the evil genius feet of Keri Lake. If you're looking for an utterly unforgettable read, you NEED this in your life. Kings of Carrion was darkly captivating, emotionally devastating, and positively unforgettable. It owned me from beginning to end and I still can't get over it. I'm RUINED. Completely ruined. Full disclosure here, this story emotional eviscerated me. I spent the latter part of the book a hysterically blubbering mess. There was no consoling me. If there's one thing that Keri Lake knows how to do, it's to reach into the pits of her readers souls and rip their damn hearts out. This was no exception. This is not a standalone and you need to read Calico Descending first. This is the conclusion of the story that starts there. If you've also read Juniper Unraveling, then you'll be thrilled to get more Six and Wren here. If you loved Cali and Vladys in the first book, you will fall even harder for them here. I loved Cali's fierceness and the way she fought for her beloved. I loved Valdys's undying love for Cali. And everything that happens in between? Unforgettable. beta read Find me on:

Air gives us breath. Food gives us strength. And love gives us hope. Kings of Carrion is a devastatingly beautiful conclusion to Cali and Valdys’ story, vividly capturing the atrocities and tribulations of their decimated world, but also masterfully personifying the urgency of love and the power of its expression—leaving us breathless and reeling in the best possible way. Cali is an epitome of strength, bravery and fortitude, steadfast in her belief that she will be reunited with Valdys despite the macabre denouement of Calico Descending. While the love between her and Valdys is palpable, what is more heartfelt is the bond she shares with Cadmus and Titus, a stunning amalgamation of enduring friendship and unconditional love, made even more prominent as they fight an uphill battle to rescue Valdys with the help of new (very welcome) friends Six and Wren. What follows is a journey full of physical pain, emotional heartbreak and utter joy, and we find ourselves experiencing the gamut of those emotions with Cali and Wren every step of the way. He’s still the scarred boy who touched my heart. And I’m the wounded little bird, whose wings he made fly again. The sophistication of Ms. Lake’s storytelling is embossed in every word, her terrifying world emerging from the confines of ink and paper to become reality so that we are not just readers but rather companions of its inhabitants. While tremendous loss and heartache fill its pages, Kings of Carrion is ultimately a captivating story about the reaches of loyalty and the enduring power of hope and love. And though we are left with an exquisite ending, the days until the release of the next book cannot pass by quickly enough. I want more of this world! Posted: December 23, 2019

I still didn't love her though, for a number of reasons... 💟 I'm not a fan of the whole 'estrous' or 'heat' theme that the author had going for Cali. While it gave her an excuse to sleep with more than one Alpha, it didn't feed the story. If this wasn't a part of the story, it wouldn't have been missed. It wasn't necessary and it was gross. 💟 her logic lacked logic. She was annoyingly dense and I don't know why no one ever called her out on it. 💟 her intentions, when it came to the heart, were hard to read. While I believed that she cared for the Alphas, it was too weird to take seriously. I know I'm in the minority with this, but her scenes with Cadmus rubbed me the wrong way. Again, that's probably because of the 'binding' nonsense that was introduced in the last book. I don't even want to get into the other reasons. I liked getting Wren's perspective, if only because it gave me much needed glimpses of my beloved Six. Can't get enough of that guy! The way that the author developed these characters, the world they live in, and how believable most of it was had me completely engrossed in this story. It's scary as heck. Seriously, getting back into Calico reminded me of a literal version of the video game The Last of Us. If you think the Ragers are bad, there's an entire underground area overrun with the worst mutations you can imagine. I was freaking out!! And then you get to the end, which was so bittersweet that I'm having a hard time dealing. While there were happy endings, there is still one more book in the series, detailing what happens to Titus and I'm probably going to read that too... once my heart has a chance to heal. Re-read 9th - 10th October 2020. This has turned out to be an amazing series. In this book Wren and Six meet Cali, Cadmus and Titus. Cali and her Alphas are scouring the land for Kenny. They want to do the unthinkable. They want to break into Calico. The first half is relatively (for this author) easy going. The second half is not. It’s definitely edge of your seat stuff. And I’m saying no more. I’m not going to spoil it for you. I’ll just say this is a series well worth checking out.

But to reach it, they must break into the very horror they escaped from without even knowing if it would be worth it. Reading this book was like immersing myself into two different worlds. Part one was the calm before the storm where hopes were still alive. Going into part two was like bracing a Category 5 hurricane and hope for a quick death. “I’ll not lie to you. This is, perhaps, the most foolish thing we could possibly conjure.” I liked the storyline, however, I felt some aspects were too perfect for a dystopian story. I also wasn’t a fan of a certain character who I thought was selfish and unreasonable. My favorite character in this book was still Cadmus and I’m glad he got to show his true self. More thumping against the door startles my muscles, and I look up through a small square window in the panel, to see those faceless creatures tipping their heads back, as if trying to smell us through the steel. Like previously mentioned, part two was intense and nerve-wracking. There were times I felt like I was in a horror survival video game. Thank god I was just a reader safely living behind the words lol! Kings of Carrion is a grisly tale of desperation and survival. It would appeal to readers who enjoy romance in a dark dystopian setting. Books in the series: ⚙💀⚙. . . (F)BR With Twinsie CC & Loyda . . .⚙💀⚙ For more reviews/reveals/giveaways visit:

Overall, Kings of Carrion would appeal to dystopian romance readers who don't mind a little dark and despair injected into their romance. As always, Keri Lake has painted a world full of unforgettable characters and the beautifully tormented world in which they live. Cali who is not prepared to give up on her lover and Alpha scours the deadlands with Alphas Cadmus and Titus and Former Legion Brandon searching for the Skulls, The Rebels she believes can assist her in opening the gates of Hell itself. This was not just Cali and Valdys story but also a continuation of Wren and Six's from book one as here the two timelines collide in a dramatic fashion and all roads lead back to where this all began the nightmare that is Calico. Raw dark and gritty right from the onset this certainly didn't pull any punches. Kings of Carrion is a stark post-apocalyptic dystopian drama and I literally had my heart in my mouth throughout this tense and heart-stopping tale. Cali here showcases her blind loyalty and steadfast determination prepared to do whatever in the liberation of her mate. While Cadmus also comes into his own here and I just adored how protective he was of Cali in the absence of Valdys. This one also had me bawling my eyes out I was an emotional wreck and it's not often a book reduces me to these levels, I was a bloody mess. But beneath the tragedy was also a flickering hope for the future and despite the sadness and tears, I shed that epilogue managed to lift my spirits making me smile even with the grief. I was so glad that we arrived where we did and that Happiness was achieved but also bittersweet at what we lost along the way. This was an epic masterpiece that I enjoyed immensely. It's dark and gritty and an emotional rollercoaster but one I am ever so glad I caught a ride on. Highly recommend this series it is fantastic. Kings of Carrion is a heart-wrenching story of love and loss, and of friendships that know no bounds. Lake is a master at world-building; whether a story about an anti-hero, a thriller, or dystopian, Lake has an unmatched ability to immerse the reader within each scene. We stand at the edge of towers overlooking the world below, we stare at tortured bodies, and we smell the stench burning from hospital stacks. Lake's readers experience the same heartbreak, and heart-wrenching sadness that her characters feel. With similarities in determination and strength, they are willing to sacrifice for those they love. “Hang on to what you suffered, because those experiences are what set you apart from people here.” What I enjoyed about this book is the tightly created dystopian world and how the communities behind the wall, desert and Calico are in stark contrast to each other. The level of deception that pervades is eerily manipulative. The bond among certain characters was strong and the sacrifice made by one made an impact, even though it was foreseeable. This story could be divided by the first half that covered knowledge gained and the second half with vividly conveyed action. The science behind the search for a cure of the Dredge is intriguingly disturbing and still holds some mystery. This book tells us on a much devastating and terrifying atrocities. She merges the two timelines (Book 1 and Book 2) together and continues on a goal where both parties go to one place with different necessities. The writing is so descriptive and magnificient. The world building is creative with action and gore included. The tribulations the characters go through is so heart-breaking. Six and Wren remain my favourite. The romantic input in the story balms the cruel conditions. I didn't enjoy Cali's personality in the previous book, while in this book Cali seemed much bearable. When she started to grow on me, she does the stupidest things. In the end of the book I felt she was more of a burden than an actual applied heroine. Juniper Unraveling series is my forever favourite series. The story is so emotional and nerve-wrecking that I cried. Keri Lake and her astounding creation of this story is extraordinary. The author promises one more book to finish this series. I'm eagerly waiting for this. And the book covers of the series is a very refreshing site. The book is of tortured hero/heroine, explicit, rape, torture, gruesome circumtance, violent scenes and is disturbing. The characters death can be violent and brutal. It's a dark series where death don't come easily. I highly recommend this series. If it was possible I would rate more.

She stayed true to the world, the characters and the story, even when it may have been easier not too, delivering an epic story that will be permanently etched into my heart. The Juniper world isn’t a fluffy one full of hearts and flowers. It’s harsh and at times, exceedingly cruel. But it also demonstrates that through all things, love is possible and the heart can survive. So I suppose, mine will too…eventually. I highly recommend the entire Juniper Unraveling Series for anyone up for original stories full of heart stopping action, emotion, and passion that ultimately demonstrates the power of love and humanity.

I absolutely loved Cali and her determination to rescue Valdys. And Valdys - Sigh. He has my heart. He was fierce and aggressive with a heart and soul that beat for Cali. I loved this story so so much! It was so heartbreaking, pulse-pounding and incredible! 5 stars! ~Ratula

Kings Of Carrion is a fucked up yet compelling read. It's brutal, gory and oh so good. I had a hard time putting it down. Even though it had me nervous, scared and anxious to the point where I was tempted to read through the spaces between my fingers I loved it. It's a tale of epic proportions that I can't recommend enough. I know this story and characters will stay with me for some time. Whether you normally read the post-apocalyptic genre or not doesn't really apply here with the Juniper series. It wasn't about surviving zombies or traversing miles of empty buildings and barren land. Don't misunderstand the above is present just not the story. This was more. So much more. It was about two couples - Their families - Both blood and chosen. It was about the darkness that lives in all of us. It was about loss, greed, hope. It was about living and dying -Hate and love. It was everything and still not enough. If you take a chance on one author one series let this be the one. Will be back to review- wasn't kidding about being emotional (I came back this is the updated version)

5 STARS Wow. WOW. W O W. ''They didn't have to put those scars on my body. They were already inside my head.'' Keri Lake, what have you done to me, my mind, my heart, my freakin soul?! I knew this would be amazing but I didn't know that it would be this fucking exceptional, this heartbreaking, this astonishing. I didn't know that this book would tear my heart out and place something far more fulfilled in its place. I'm putting sad gifs in my review simply because I am shredded right now. I didn't know that this book would tear my heart out and place something far more fulfilled in its place. I'm putting sad gifs in my review simply because I am shredded right now. This book, this whole series, is just so mind-blowing. I will tuck these stories, these characters deep inside me and never let them go. And the best thing about this whole reading experience is that even when this book breaks my heart one minute, in the very next it's kissing my cheek and slapping me in the face with an avalanche of hope, of love. ''It seems to come down to the same thing every time. The world is designed to take, not give.'' This book - this whole series - is about the importance of love. It's about showing us that even in the darkest, most fucked-up world, love is the only thing that perishes. It's the only thing that gives us and our lives a meaning. Love is the essence of life and that without it we are reduced to nothing more than monsters. ''There is no life without you by my side.'' This book broke my heart. It did. I'm not going to lie about that. But you know what? I never, for one second doubted that I would end this book hopeless or defeated. Because from the beginning, Keri wrote this story in a way that made it clear for me that in the end, light always banishes the darkness. And now, having finished this book, this amazing story, I have no doubt that it's true. "Open your eyes," I whisper. "I'm right here." **I received an arc in exchange for an honest review

I can only applaud Mrs Lake for writing such an exciting, thrilling story. I am beyond enthusiastic, Kings of Carrion, third installment of the Juniper Unraveling series, was everything I needed at the moment... and then more. I read Cali and Valdys' adventures with eyes large as saucers, as I lost myself in the pages.  Danger, violence and atrocities reign in Calico. Pitch black is what comes to my mind when I think about it. But. Yes, there is a but...  the raw emotions, the passion, the love, the desire to live was still palpable all along.  The alternating of the different points of view, combined with the action scenes created the perfect rhythm.  I highly recommend Kings of Carrion to readers who want to experience an thick atmosphere and a brilliant storyline. It raised a lot of questions about science and ethics which I really enjoyed. I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!

The only reason I'm giving this a 2 star is because of the Wren and Rhys times, otherwise i hated it. It's like a wannabe shifter book. Then what makes it worse, is the hero has been captured and she needs relief twice which means.... She has s*x with the other alphas she's connected to, but just to be clear, once the hero comes back, it is strictly MF. Still cheating in my book though. How would she have felt if the hero did that to her?? The s*x scene with the first alpha is off screen, and that same alpha gets his own book which I'm not sure I'll be reading since him having s*x with this heroine already kind of ruined any potential romance he may have. The second scene with the other alpha is on screen which we then find out she gets pregnant by. That alpha ends up dying (maybe) and when the hero comes back he totally forgives her because he knew she was in pain (he's a saint), and tells her he is honored to raise the baby of her and his best friend, which they then name the baby after his bio dad/best friend. Ya, no. Ew. Overall, I really liked the first book in the series, and thankfully that couple wasn't totally ruined in this book, but unfortunately this couple and these past two books make me really really not to read anymore books in the series.

I seriously can't even...this book, this entire series is something no book lover should pass up. From the very beginning of Book 1, (Juniper Unraveling) this world is captivating and full of emotion. Tears and heartbreak, this journey is beautifully tragic, but still full of perseverance, hope and love. I finished Kings of Carrion days ago and still weep when I look at the cover. Book hangover doesn't even come close to describing the imprint of this story on my heart and soul. If you had asked me a year ago if I liked dystopian stories, I would have said no. But this series, it isn't just a dystopian story, it's a dark and gritty look into survival, wrapped around the brilliant light of love as it shines through all the cracks and crevices of despair. It's not for everyone, but if you're anything like me and you crave more to your story than just the romance I encourage you to take this journey. I promise you won't be disappointed. I wish I were a better word smith, this review can't even begin to express all the feelings I've experienced at the hands of this amazingly bold and brave author, and this thought-provoking journey she's taken us on. I implore you, please don't let the word 'dystopian' deter you. I won't lie, there are times it's hard to read, but those are the times not to look away, I promise you, this story will leave an unforgettable impression.

It is official! I’ve read every brilliant book from you, Ker Lake! Kings of Carrion brought me to my knees more than a dozen times. I wiped out an entire box of tissues, yelled out loud from the top of my kindle, all while slapping the invisible high five for the fierce women who reign among the kings. What an honor to read this book. “We are broken pieces, stitched together by the pain of our losses. I don’t know if we’ll ever be fixed again. The only thing that’s certain is the uncertainty that awaits us. Moments like these, when we close our eyes, and the images of our past remind us of how fleeting life can be. How, in the shutter of an eye, the universe can change. How quickly the world will take what’s given. Yet, we carry on, with bruised hearts and torn skin, because we love, and that’s what gives us purpose. Air gives us breath. Food gives us strength. And love gives us hope. In a world of monsters, love makes us human.” This is just one example of phenomenal writing in Kings of Carrion. A Dark, post-apocalyptic saga, but one that will change your mind, body, and soul!

After reading Calico Descending I didn’t think Ms. Lake could top it. But she absolutely did that with Kings of Carrion. Holy Smokes what a world she created! The scenes and the atmosphere are described with vivid details and precision it felt like I was watching a movie instead of reading a book. This series has been breathtakingly disturbing in the best, most addictive way, and this book truly was the most perfect ending to such a wild journey. I’ll admit, this sub genre is not my particular favorite-but the amount of emotion this author poured into the story, can be recognized by any reader-who enjoys any genre. The amount of appreciation, and awe that I have for this author knows no bounds. Callie-god she’s so strong-so resilient, going in search of her love. It’s a journey she’s laying her life on the line for-and as a reader we’re reminded constantly of the dangers virtually everywhere. No one is safe-surely not her, or any of her protectors. We see more of Wren and Rhys in this book-they’re from book 1, and it was all woven together seamlessly to create an edge of your seat adventure. The supporting characters-all of them, were intriguing to no end. This book should certainly be made into a movie- there’s no question that it would be a hit. I’m literally standing by the fact that this, is my absolute favorite book-favorite series out there. I’ll forever recommend it. One click this ASAP!
