All he wanted was to get laid; there just hadn’t been much of that lately. That night when Anne had rescued Larry from further embarrassment by quickly exiting, Mike had chosen to be a knight in shining armor, giving Susan a ride back to her dormitory after an impulsive, intimate, romantic interlude in Mike’s car. The memory of the evening surged back, and although what had occurred was not full-blown sex, it was an indiscretion and one he had fully disclosed to Julie. Their relationship had been greatly affected by his foolishness, and it had taken a long time for him to earn back her trust. Mike returned the smile and caught himself captivated by her. Trying to restrain the impulsive attraction, he began an intensive questioning session and was surprised how much she could talk. He watched her lips as they formed the words and thought back to the cool November evening years ago when he’d placed his mouth against hers. Finding himself more enamored with her, Mike stammered. “Well, I . . . I . . . I’ve always thought you were beautiful. You’re a nice person.” At least I finally have someone who is paying attention to me. You know, it’s not a secret at this point, Mike, that I’m very attracted to you. I’ve always had a crush on you, and I don’t mind exploring a different path that involves two consenting adults.” Opening the car door, the faint scent of Susan’s perfume caught Mike off guard. “Unexpected, perhaps. Innocent, not too sure. I have never forgotten about Susan.” “So you’re the mysterious good Samaritan. Where’d you find ’em?” Mike breathed a sigh of relief. At least it wasn’t Susan . . . “Found ’em on the floor in the back booth where you and Susan were sitting last night.” “Who’s Susan?” Stan asked.
