Rooted (In) is a gift to those seeking freedom and wholeness. It offers you an invitation to step out of the shame-filled, stuck places and into a fresh space. Susan Carson midwifes you through this journey with vulnerability, ancient wisdom, and grace. As a friend of Susan's and a part of Roots&Branches staff, I had the honor of reading an advanced copy (full disclosure, I have already re-read it!) I am so excited that you will be able to read it too. Rooted (In) is a gift to those seeking freedom and wholeness. She provides simple yet, deep and meaningful tools to connect with God. God is always speaking but we can't slow down enough to listen. As a recovering people-pleasing perfectionist who grew up in a legalistic church ... I have struggled with shame and fear and identity... I have wounds from my childhood. They created deep roots with lies of unworthiness. But, God digs up the weeds and replaces them with the roots of His love.. This book is a breath of fresh air that reminds the reader of the truth and depth of God's love. Also, the author reminds us that this Jesus thing... It's not about beating ourselves up more. Pushing ourselves harder. Making ourselves "good enough." The Jesus life is about relaxing and living in the love and grace that is all around us. Carson says, "Grace has nothing to do with what you do. It has everything to do with who you are, created, rooted, and established in the loving kindness of God." I am loved. I am adored. I am enough because of Jesus. I love how Susan creatively winds her own story and journey throughout the book along side the wisdom of spiritual leaders and ancient prayers. This book truly is a gem. I will keep it as a resource, share it, reread it and go back to it for the practical spiritual habits recommended within. I don't know Susan but I think I would enjoy having a cup of coffee with her. I received an Advance Reader Copy from the author. Thanks.

Rooted (IN) is an invitation to move past the noise. To stop, rest, breathe, and open up your ears (really, the whole of you) to connect intimately with the loving God who has been there all along.

Rooted (IN) is a great guide to personal transformation. I received an advance reader copy from the author and was eager to dig in. These insights and practices shape us over a lifetime while keeping us grounded in love and faith. The good news is that this invitation is available to all of us, everyone, if we will listen and respond. Susan’s writing invites us into a simple yet profound journey to grow deeper in our faith, our love for God and for others without the weight of measuring up to some imagined standard. I appreciate her balanced view of understanding the need for both our effort and God’s grace on this path of growth. When we choose to engage with the spiritual practices she mentions we are shaped and formed in our inner being. A key insight shared is facing what is in the way of us moving forward and finding freedom from life-long patterns that keep us stuck. Uprooting the lies, that over time now feel true in our lives, and coming into the truth creates foundational shifts and open up life giving beliefs and patterns where we live from our true selves. One can tell that what Susan is writing is born out of her own experience and then confirmed by the many people she has sat with face to face, over many years. Where is the pain? What is your image of God? What do you want Jesus to do for you? By asking questions and creating safe spaces to share she has seen light shatter the darkness and bring life and offers it to anyone who will listen.

I've been reading an advanced copy of Rooted (IN), and have had the privilege of knowing the author Susan for years. So, I knew the book would be incredible, and jumped at the chance to read it early. It exceeded my expectations. I related totally to how she talked about not feeling enough, even though I know God loves me and has a plan...there are still days I chase after the world's approval and am left feeling empty. That's what Susan addresses in a deep and vulnerable way, how we can re-connect and stay connected with God. Truly connected, being enough because of who we are in Christ, deeply loved just for being. She explains how to get to the root of the lies that keep us disconnected, and how to replace them with God's truth. Susan shares her own personal struggles with a lot of vulnerability. She also talks about how she has guided others to break through shame, heal, and to become connected with God in a way they have never experienced. Absolutely beautiful. At the end of each chapter there are questions which guide you through personal discovery on how to break through what is keeping you from deeper connection with God. For that reason, the book would be excellent for a group bible study/discussion. I can't put it all in words how much this book has helped me in uncovering lies I was believing about my identity, and it gave me new skills on how to live more deeply rooted in the love of Christ. Highly recommend this book, and I hope you give it a read!

I had the pleasure of reading an advance copy of Rooted (In), and I am so glad I did. And it is very easy for me to identify what made the difference in Susan Carson’s writing versus the works of so many others. It’s her authenticity, her fearless real-ness as a person and as a Christian, her ability to simultaneously bare her soul, her challenges, her childhood pain, while calling me toward the rich life of faith that is available in Jesus. This is no easy feat, and I don’t think it’s some strategic plan to win over readers and sell books. No, I think it is a natural result of her heart being just as rooted and comfortable in Christ as the pages of the book describe. And if that wasn’t enough, the structure of the book is geared toward action - step by step, chapter by chapter guidance on moving from wherever one is to a closer, more rich relationship with the Lord. This is a must read, really. I can not recommend it enough.

I was fortunate enough to receive an "advanced copy" of this book as I'm a fan of Susan Carson's work. Typically, when I read a book on Kindle, I like to highlight and make notes as I read. Yes - it really IS that good! BONUS: Most chapters end with a practical exercise or processes to help me take these concepts from theory to integration into my experience of God. That's what I was hoping to find in this book - ways to connect with and to experience God more deeply. So far it's everything I hoped for and more!

This book has changed me. God met me in Susan’s vulnerability and wisdom, in her love of spiritual disciplines. He called me to a deeper place in myself and in my relationship with Him. I had to stop highlighting the impactful parts because not much was being left without highlights. This is a book that I will return to many times. Rooted (IN) is more than a book. It’s an invitation to move away from shame, lies and a distorted identity into the fullness of who God created you to be. When I read the first couple of chapters of Susan’s book I knew I had found someone who could identify with the ache in every person’s soul. No matter the life we have had there is a place in each of us that thinks we are not enough. “Rootedness is the place of fullness; the fullness of God in us.” Susan really hits home with her observation of what our roots will do to us. This illustration runs beautifully through the book, constantly reminding me to examine what I’m actually being “rooted in”. Trees don’t focus on what kind of fruit they’re producing-they focus on being healthy trees. That health? Starts with our roots. I received an advance reader copy from the author. I greatly appreciate the courage of Susan Carson to be transparent in this book as she shares her journey into a deep relationship with Jesus where he formed her heart to be fully alive. Rather than just receiving a theoretical approach, the reader is given practical and realistic steps we can take into opening our hearts for being fully immersed (IN) Him. I found myself deeply impacted by this book.

I was given an advance copy from the author and absolutely loved this book. Susan takes ancient spiritual practices and makes them relevant and accessible for current audiences. Her book is packed with wisdom but reads quickly and effortlessly. While some spiritual writers sound lofty, Susan's stories were totally relatable. My own personal details are different but it's almost as though this book was written just for me. This book is worth reading for sure. A breath of fresh air. I am about halfway through this book and loving it! We are meant to experience life as a journey. There should be no specific moment of arrival. If we feel like we have it all figured out, we're doing it wrong. We should always be learning and growing. I am enjoying the exercises of stillness and learning to listen (I need that.) I am hoping to continue to deepen my connection to God and His word. *I received an ARC from the author but that in no way influenced my opinion. I am about halfway through this book and loving it! We should always be learning and growing. I am enjoying the exercises of stillness and learning to listen (I need that.) I am hoping to continue to deepen my connection to God and His word. *I received an ARC from the author but that in no way influenced my opinion.

I'm in the midst of reading Rooted(In) by Susan Carson and it feels like she is speaking specifically to me. The things she has worked through are some of the very things I am working through myself. The exercises she has at the end of each chapter are both challenging and revealing. I also really like how she gives ideas on how to work through this book in a group context. I can't wait to journey more through this book and allow her wisdom to speak to me. I was given an advance copy of Rooted, and in reading it found myself personally encouraged by the clear call to find life, power, and healing out of a deeply connected relationship to Jesus. Susan has created a very accesible and helpful guide for living life from a place of intimacy with Jesus. This book works on the inside, but also will work its way out into your real life.

Susan has done an exceptional job of blending personal stories and Scriptural truths to create a book that you will return to again and again for encouragement, hope and practical steps to deepen your knowledge and love of our God. It has earned a permanent spot on my nightstand. Thank you Susan. I received an Advanced Reader Copy from the author.

I was honored to receive an advance reader copy of this book. Susan drew me in right away with the stories from her life and kept me with how she eloquently shared the topic covered within each chapter It felt like she was in the room with me telling me things I needed to hear and be reminded of right now. I plan on having my small group read and work through this book together.
