Melanie Dillon is always the bridesmaid. She’s also the wedding dress consultant, inevitable crisis manager, sometimes cake tester, and reluctant therapist to all the brides who come through the doors of Bayside Brides in downtown Oyster Bay. And after years of standing back and watching other women find their happy endings, she makes a promise to herself that this year, s Melanie Dillon is always the bridesmaid. She’s also the wedding dress consultant, inevitable crisis manager, sometimes cake tester, and reluctant therapist to all the brides who come through the doors of Bayside Brides in downtown Oyster Bay. And after years of standing back and watching other women find their happy endings, she makes a promise to herself that this year, she will be one of them. With her brother’s wedding approaching, she sees an opportunity to expand her business and finally shed those last few (okay, more than a few) pounds she put on since chocolate and wine replaced her no-good boyfriend a year ago. But when her ex snags an invitation to the event, Melanie turns to her best friend to pose as her date. Back in town to take over his retiring father’s medical practice, Jason Sawyer is sweet, smart, and reliable. He’s also been in love with Melanie since they were kids—not that she ever noticed. Now, with a second chance within reach, he has to decide if he will admit his feelings or move on for good. All Melanie wants is the same promise she makes to her clients every day, but when professional and personal plans collide, she realizes that happy endings don’t all come in the same form, and that sometimes, the life you thought you wanted isn’t nearly as wonderful as the one you already have.

Still the One is the first book in the Bayside Brides series, which is a spin-off of the Oyster Bay series, by Olivia Miles. The story is set in the charming seaside town of Oyster Bay off the coast of Maine, with its lovely Victorian homes and businesses, and characters we’ve come to love. If you love small town series then you will absolutely love this book! This book follows Melanie Dillon, who is the co-owner of Bayside Brides bridal shop and sister to Zach Dillon. As Melanie prepares for her brothers upcoming wedding to Abby Harper, chef at the Harper House Inn, she is forced to confront her own future. She has wallowed in misery for far too long, getting over a bad breakup and allowing herself to self medicate with chips and ice cream. She is determined to make this year her year. She is thrust back into designing after Abby asks her to make her wedding gown, and how can she say no to her sister-in-law to be, regardless of how busy the shop is and how close the wedding date is? Meanwhile, she comes to find that designing is what she was always meant to do, and she doesn’t want to hide it anymore, rather she wants to share it and bring it into the shop as a way to expand the business, much to her cousin/co-owner Chloe’s dismay. Additionally, her oldest and dearest friend, Jason, is back in town to fill in at the town clinic while his father recovers from a heart attack. She knows his stay is temporary and the thought of him ever leaving again leaves her anxious and sad. After all, he’s helped her to rediscover herself in so many ways in such a short amount of time. He’s agreed to escort her to Zach and Abby’s wedding, but it seems bittersweet to Melanie before long, as the big day looms and so does Jason’s departure. Jason knows his heart will always be in Oyster Bay, but he has never been given a reason to stay. He’s also never confessed his true feelings to Melanie. Except now, after using his skills as a doctor in a small town, he’s discovered a much more fulfilling experience than in the big city ER in Boston. Sometimes “the one” is right in front of us but we just can’t see it right away, sometimes it just takes kissing a few frogs to get a clearer picture. I enjoyed Melanie’s story so much and look forward to the other characters’ stories. Happy Reading!

I'm a sucker for bridesmaids stories, dress consultants, wedding planners etc., and so when I heard about this book I was more than willing to dive in. The story is short and is considered a spin off. I haven't read the main trilogy or series or whatever Oyster Bay is so I have no idea who the cameos are except when references are made by the main character. Both Melanie and Jason are frustrated by their lives but not quite willing to go for what they want just yet at the start of the story. By the end things have settled and their lives are well on the way to moving forward with each other. It's a nice story with no real angst which is a nice change of pace for me and I'll probably look into the other books once all my day one book buys of March has been read.

I loved the story of Abbey and Jack's wedding also the story and history of Melanie who co owns the Bridal shop and Jason who went to school to become a doctor. This story is very interesting. This is the first in the series of The Brides of Oyster Bay. Anyway. Abby asked Melanie to make her gown and she does since her brother is the groom. Jason has come back to Oyster Bay to run his father's clinic as he is recouperating from a heart attack. Check out this story and see what happens. Finding Love Once again, Olivia Miles delivers a warm, happy, romantic tale. Followers of the Oyster Bay series will be rewarded with a story of love rediscovered while at the same time finding one's true place and calling. Oyster Bay embraces those who are, were, or become permanent residents of this community by the sea. Finding Love Once again, Olivia Miles delivers a warm, happy, romantic tale. Very sweet! The story of Melanie and Jason was really satisfying to read. Jason had loved Melanie forever and finally took a leap of faith and told her so. They both got their happily ever after!
