The backgrounds change in really lovely ways with plenty of scenery and animals throughout. What I loved: The messaging here is really lovely and the poetic form flows beautifully. It is a pleasure to read. The cut-outs add some extra fun, as children can peak through the pages to see new children. I also really love all the different children pictured, as well as all the details in the background that make each page really fun to look through. The penguins are a particular favorite in our home. What left me wanting more: As a small thing, the darker background pages are hard to read the black text off of, as they are a little too close in color (white font would be appreciated). Final verdict: A sweet book with great messaging about teamwork and activism, WE ARE TOGETHER speaks to the importance of friendship and working with others to achieve our goals. The many details, children, and poetic language used will appeal to a broad range of young readers. Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

This book is a wonderful story to share with children as it highlights many things about self love and love of others. It starts with the importance of our own self – our special gifts, dreams and hopes but it then shows that with one other and perhaps more than one other – we can achieve so much more. Friends help us to see the bright side of life, they help us believe more in our selves and follow those dreams. Young children will love the new person that appears on every page and the people shaped holes that are made with each page turn. If ever we’re lonely, we’ll just say out loud: Let’s all stand together, one big happy crowd! We are together by Britta Tenckentrup is a book to share with all young children, one to pour over the illustrations together and discuss about how we feel about ourselves and the people who surround us. Self belief and positive peer groups are such an influential catalysts in the development of our young children. Talking openly with children about their gifts and how working with others who respect us is important – and through We are together by Britta Tenckentrup, this discussion can be brought up so much easier.

This one is a 3.5, and I'm sure many readers will appreciate its positive message and reminder that we are better together than when we are separated and divided for whatever reason. The rhyming text honors the special qualities that each of us has but also acknowledges that life is richer with others in it. The cut-outs reveal a diverse collection of youngsters who seem determined to gain strength by standing together. It might be interesting for caregivers or teachers to share this book with youngsters and begin a conversation about the advantages of solitude vs. companionship.

A poem celebrating the diversity in the world and how powerful we would be "playing" together. Each two-page spread illustrates a 4-line stanza of the poem. While a lovely sentiment, the poem just doesn't pull together. The digital (?) illustrations by Teckentrup are serviceable, having an almost retro feel to them. She is careful to be inclusive, with the children forming a large circle by the end of the poem - making this feel a bit contrived. I picked this up from my local library because I love Britta Teckentrup's illustrations and it sounded like this book has such an important message to give to all readers, be they adults of children. As expected, I loved the illustration style and how the cutouts allowed the number of children to increase on each page, creating a visual representation of togetherness. Such a great book to talk about what binds us together and how powerful teamwork can be. My children loved the illustrations in this book. That is what was most interesting to them as we read this together. While it has a timely and beautiful message that adults will appreciate, it didn't hold or engage the attention of my 8- and 6-year old. Get it for the unique and beautiful illustrations! Think a modern “It’s a Small World” with a come together message. This book depicts modern children around the world paired with a comforting poem about the strength of us all together. Teckentrup’s world is not as big, isolating or overwhelming because we’re all facing it together. Lyrical and illustrated with muted colors and interesting cut outs, this is a warm book to read with children.

I love Britta Teckentrup's illustration style--that's where this book really shines! The text was a short sequence of rhyming lines about how we are stronger together on each page. Timely for pandemic times! The visual elements of kids standing in a circle through the cutouts were the highlight, though! The illustrations in this book are wonderful and the colours are gently vibrant and dare I say inclusive? It is simply a nicely done book, suitable for chatting about and sharing and even as a base for an art project or two. Simply lovely.

This was a cute and fun book focussing on a very important message - that we do need to love one another despite (or rather because of) our differences. There were some lovely illustrations too and something to be enjoyed again!

This book is really great especially in the current world where it is difficult to see everyone we want to see. Children enjoy the cut outs on the pages and counting the people on each page is a challenge for preschool children.

A lovely book to get a discussion flowing in key stage one about the idea of friendship and working together. This book could be used to help resolve friendships issue in KS1. The illustrations and rhyme scheme complement the themes perfectly.

ANOTHER superb book that brings diverse peoples together rather than fighting to see who is the biggest victim or who is the most valuable. BRAVO!
