FRIDAY OCTOBER 1, 1954 A young woman is discovered yards from the HOLLYWOOD sign. She cannot be identified. She has no face. It has been removed along with her finger tip pads. It has been removed along with her finger tip pads. Her nails and her raven black hair are still there and beautifully seen to. She is completely naked. Another corpse is discovered in a closed garage in Glendale. The body is in the trunk of a beautiful Yellow Buick convertible. The two bodies don't seem to be connected at first. But are they? Lieutenant Harry Lloyd and his new partner Jesse Kimball III have the lead on the first corpse a young female actress. When the second corpse, a man, is discovered to be the husband of a friend and associate, it's up to Harry to take control over that investigation as well. HOLLYWOOD POWER, like all power, corrupts absolutely when it is absolute. When both corpses are discovered to be victims of that corrupt power system, then retribution, vengence, and justice become a cause to all involved. The young actress was a victim of abuse by the studio powers and their political and big business allies. She had suffered humiliation at the hands of rich and extremely powerful men. The man had been a skilled screenwriter. He was likewise a victim of the HOLLYWOOD Power structure, due to his views of the danger of Hollywood propaganda when used against American citizens. "More dangerous than an atomic bomb," was his sentiment. And he was a member of the Writer's Guild, the despised opposition to the studio system power structure. Harry turns to his old boss and mentor, Adam Freeman for advice. Harry's old boss, is now in private practice as the head of Freeman Investigations. A discrete inquiry firm. It was Adam who discovered the mysterious and nefarious things behind the Masked Marauder Murder mystery case when David Hamm was found dead of a knife wound. The case had exposed too many other, related incidents involving too many important people. Adam refused to ignore it all. Only a little blackmail kept him from being fired. Adam had been forced into retirement at that point. Also in Adam's firm was Sarah Lovejoy, one of the three female officers Adam had enlisted for assistance when Chief of Detectives Douglas Gaines refused assistance on the Masked Marauder case. An unofficial joint investigation is enjoined when the dead writer is discovered to be a friend of all involved. Joining Lieutenant Lloyd's squad is Delores Rivera, an abused ex-starlet who becomes an undercover officer for the investigation. Rivera had suffered the same kinds of abuse that the dead actress had before her death and mutilation. She joins the case because she wants payback against the studio and the powerful men who ran it. With the voluntary assistance of members of the Hollywood gay community, plans are hatched and implemented. Once again, the investigations turn up new and disturbing facts that rip the mask off the powerful alliances between the Studio system of the time, the powerful conservative business leaders and politicians who exemplified the corruption of the era. Even to the point of being more Un-American than anyone brought before any committee. But the little people have weapons also. And they can use them when necessary.
