In book one, we met the oldest sister, Abby Harper. Book two, her younger brother, Brice got his turn. Now it’s the youngest Harper brother, Caleb’s turn. As did Abby and Brice, Caleb Harper has some serious abandonment issues. Their mother left them when Brice and Caleb were little, leaving an eighteen year old Abby to raise the boys. Now, years later, Abby is happily married to Clayton East and Brice is married to Naomi. But Caleb is convinced he will never risk being hurt by opening his heart. He is a one and done cowboy. Brice and Caleb own a ranch together and train horses. Their entire family is very close knit. They’ve all been through so much together. Audrey Martinez is an equine veterinarian. She’s become well known and her services are highly sought after. She also donates her free time to horse rescues, caring for the horses. A family friend runs such a rescue and has asked Audrey to help him with some sick horses. They can’t figure out what is wrong with the affected horses and the situation is getting worse by the hour. Foul play is suspected so Caleb, Brice, and their brother in law, Clayton are called in to help. That is how Audrey and Caleb first meet. Horses are Audrey’s life. She’s worked night and day to get to where she is so she has given little time to relationships. She’s never really felt any sort of affection to anyone she has dated. She has always dreamed of finding that deep love her parents shared. But when she and Caleb first meet, she can’t deny there is something there that keeps drawing her to him. Caleb and Audrey can’t deny the pull they both feel to each other but both are also dealing with the walls they have both built up. At the same time, the horses are getting sicker. As Audrey works night and day to find the answer, the situation gets more dangerous as things continue to happen. They have to wonder, who is the bad guy after? Is it a vendetta against that particular rescue? Or could it be Audrey herself that is being targeted. “Whatever mess David had pulled her into was too deep for her to wade through on her own. She needed help. No. She needed Caleb.” “We protect what’s ours, as well as our friends. You and your sister are counted among those now.” First, I want to mention that I love the secondary characters. Jace and Cooper that have been in the books throughout are not blood of the Harpers and Easts (Addy’s husband’s last name) but they are family. And there is also Maddy, Audrey’s little sister. She was so spunky. This book had a fair amount of suspense as they try to solve the mystery of what has been happening to the horses. It was obvious from the beginning that Audrey and Caleb belonged together. They both had so much to work through, though, before they could let each other in. And it was not an opportune time with everything else going on. But does love ever choose an opportune time to strike? Perhaps it’s more like fate stepping in? Even though these two experienced pretty fast insta-lust, it took them both awhile to let the other in. They both made a lot of mistakes along the way. But, this is a cowboy romance. So you know that everyone will get their happy ever after in the end. It had a cute little epilogue as well that was six months down the line so we get a glimpse into their future. Things felt pretty tied up in the end so I don’t know if there are more books planned in this series or not. You could easily read this as a stand alone although then you just wouldn’t know the history of Caleb’s two siblings. 3 Abandonment Issues Stars May Have Mild Spoilers OK I'm gonna be honest here and I'm gonna try not to spoil anything while letting you know why this book was just alright for me. After reading Cowboy, Cross My Heart I was really looking forward to Caleb's book. I hate to say it, but the book didn't live up to my expectations. After reading Cowboy, Cross My Heart I was really looking forward to Caleb's book. I hate to say it, but the book didn't live up to my expectations. No not the book really, it was Caleb and Audrey relationship that didn't work for me. I actually liked the plot which is why I gave this book 3 stars instead of less. Those stars were for the plot and catching up with Naomi and Brice. So let me lay out what didn't work for me with Caleb and Audrey's love. 1. They had an unrealistic insta-love. They fell in love in like 2 days, however it didn't feel like love to me. It just felt forced. 2. I got really annoyed at the amount of days both Caleb and Audrey let go between talking to each other. Let me give a few examples. After they sleep together, they have a bit of a fight, and kinda make up(I'm trying not to give away spoilers). Then there is an misunderstanding, and instead of Caleb going after her he waits days. Days! Letting her sit there in pain thinking all kinds "he don't want me" thoughts. Then when he does finally come to her and tells her he wants her, she does the same damn thing. As the days past, I found myself getting more and more pissed off. They both just acted like cowards. That's my second biggest pet peeve in books next to cheating. If they would have only waited once, or for one day I would have been able to understand it, but it was too much too long. 3. They spent more time apart or fighting their feels than together. They maybe spent a total of 24 hours actually being together the rest of the time it was drama and fear. So after such little time I don't get how they fell in love at all. 4. lastly I didn't buy how quickly Caleb got over his mommy issues. Which was one of the reasons he feared letting Audrey into his heart. Still I liked the plot. I really liked Maddy, Audrey's sister. I liked both Caleb and Audrey as individuals just didn't feel their relationship, which bummed me out. My heart broke for Brice and Naomi. I need them to get some good news in the next book. Overall this was an okay read for me. Donna Grant is a great writer, but this book just had a pet peeve that drove me nuts, so even though I didn't like it as much as the other I will read more from Donna Grant. https://jessicasoverthetopbookobsessi...

However, for those that have followed along from the beginning the previous books characters continue to be involved. Being a veterinarian, Audrey Martinez, will do anything she can to help a sick animal so when she gets a call from an old friend about his horses she goes immediately to help. What Audrey finds however is very disturbing when it seems that the horses in question may have been poisoned. With it looking like someone is deliberately harming the horses Caleb Harper is among those asked to help look for answers. Caleb always swore he would never fall in love after the way his own mother left him as a kid but when Caleb meets Audrey he can’t help but fall for her. And when it seems the danger is directed at Audrey herself Caleb vows to do whatever he can to find out who is behind it. I have been reading this series since the beginning and have quite enjoyed each book with all of the action and romance they bring. The characters are likable, the suspense a real page turner and the settings done quite well. It’s also nice to have the previous characters still involved to see where they are in their own relationships after their own danger filled, whirlwind romantic beginnings. Great series that I would definitely recommend checking out. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. For more reviews please visit https://carriesbookreviews.com/

My Favorite Cowboy can be read as a stand-alone, however, it’s the third book in the Heart of Texas series (I haven’t read the other books and this one read just fine). My Favorite Cowboy is a mystery and a romance. Caleb has a problem. Something is wrong with his horses. It just doesn’t make sense. The horse affect seems to be random. The local vet is on the case. Audrey is suspicious of the horse's symptoms and with the help of their families, they will get to the bottom of the mystery. Great suspense, returning side characters and a pretty hot attraction between the main characters. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was their fear of commitment getting in the way. I did like how they ultimately got back together. I would love to see a book on the sister. She's a spitfire!

She's hardworking, independent and passionate. You'll love her dedication in providing holistic care to horses. However, something strange happened in her family friend's ranch. The horses became ill and some of them dying. It's puzzling because she cannot trace its cause. She suspects they're poisoned and there's a foul play which is beyond her control. The ranch owner seeks out more help with Caleb Harper. Caleb along with his brother Brice , brother-in-law Clayton and his former military friends, Cooper and Jace secured the area until they figure out who are the culprits. While everyone looks after the horses, Caleb is attracted to Audrey. Both of our protagonists aren't into relationships. Audrey is career driven and focus herself on work and Caleb dated a lot but nothing serious enough for him to settle down. For me, Donna Grant redeems herself. I love the little suspense which kept me interested. Caleb and Audrey shared the love for horses and had a great teamwork solving the case. Their bonding builds up the romance and I really like the chemistry between them. Abandonment issues strained their relationship and eventually worked it towards the end. I enjoyed it. The only thing I dislike is the closure for their respective parents. It could have done earlier. I just find it too late and rushed. I hope Maddy (Audrey's sister), Jace and Cooper get their own books.

I love that both of these characters had their own hangups when it came to relationships and I thought it really made the story intriguing to see what would finally be the push that they needed to get together. It added that sexual tension that I love in romance books, which paired really well with the mystery aspect of the story. I also enjoyed how deep the family connection was with the Harper siblings. I'm a sucker for a good family oriented story so now I definitely want to go back and read the first two books in the series. Overall, this book is a definite must read. Great plot and a true love story. Sigh.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It’s funny how you can develop an opinion of a character easily as the story develops. I started off really enjoying both of the main characters in this book. I loved Caleb because he was sweet, kind, and very protective of her. I liked Audrey because she was different, pretty simple, and a straightforward person dedicated to her work almost to a fault. But then things changed a little bit especially towards the end. I liked Audrey because she was different, pretty simple, and a straightforward person dedicated to her work almost to a fault. But then things changed a little bit especially towards the end. While I loved the way these two interacted together I did have some issue with the fact that neither one seemed to have a back bone when it came to standing up for their feelings for each other. Both of them seem to tip toe around each other and were afraid to even admit that they have feelings; strong feelings; lusty feelings for each other. They both had commitment phobia and were afraid to talk to each other about their feelings. That made it difficult for the reader to have strong feelings for them. There were some really great parts to the story. I loved the suspense and mystery of the story itself. I love the blooming of the romance and the steaming connections that the author crafted. Oh, Caleb is super sexy and I love the romance portion of the story. It is just so worth the read. Overall, it was a very enjoyable story and I would definitely be interested in reading more from this author in the future. *Copy received for review consideration

And for some reason that’s meant make me want to continue reading this book? Well what’d I know, clearly it makes other people want to keep reading. Nothing really new or refreshing about this book. Overused cliched plot and tropes. Usual underlying misogyny: female character is user if she’s not emotionally available, male characters are just scared. It actually made it sound like she’s a terrible person, he’s adorable for figuring out the exact same thing. Also about h being as much as gun shy about H? Too much tell not too much show. I don’t see heroine’s sister walking on eggshells around H and h and not talk about them dating just in case she reacts just like hero’s siblings did around him. I don’t see heroine’s sister worrying heroine breaking hero’s heart by loving him and leaving him. I didn’t see heroine’s sister packing up hero’s staff and put them in his car as a bold message of “goodbye, my sister screwed you last night, now she’s done, can you please quietly f*** off without contacting her and making it awkward” JUST LIKE hero’s brother did. So no, I didn’t get the vibe heroine was exactly like hero. I am sorry, but I am unable to praise this book or rate it any further than 2 stars. ARC kindly provided by netgalley

Caleb isn't looking for anything permanent but things change pretty quickly when he meets a local vet with trouble breathing down her neck ! Audrey seems to have everything, successful career, looks and a loving sister. Yet she's someone not really looking for romance or permanent commitment so surprises herself when a certain cowboy rocking tight jeans catches her eye. Trouble is there's something odd happening to horses in Audreys care and as the mystery deepens any hopes of dalliance with Caleb are about to get well and truly side tracked ! Ok this works as a standalone romance but there's an awful lot of interaction with characters from previous books. For this reader the mystery and suspense felt really forced and it lacked an awful lot as the bad guys felt like caricatures. I just kept picturing Caleb as the diligent teenager who was previously introduced so even with the author trying to convince readers that he's ex army and all grown up now he just didn't compare to Clayton. I do appreciate the way the author gave closure to these characters and yes it upped the emotional content but for this reader was far from the authors best work. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments honest and I believe fair.

Because of that I definitely want to go back and read the previous 2 books that I missed out on- especially Abby and Clayton's story (book 1). Audrey as the equine vet was a strong and caring heroine....I loved the close relationship she shared with her sister Maddy......sweet and nurturing. Caleb, the cowboy rancher.....might have become smitten with Audrey a little to fast for my liking...but they did meet under extreme circumstances and the attraction was also mutual.....so I can make allowances there. My only complaint here..... is that the Ending felt a little too rushed for me..... but there is a brief epilogue included here, which helped make up for it. 3 stars This book is the 3rd in a series about the Harper siblings; in this case, the main subject is the youngest one - Caleb. The three sibs were abandoned by their mother as children, and while all struggled mightily as a result, Caleb took it the hardest of the trio. Because of this, Caleb has always had a fear of commitment as he is afraid that if he opens his heart to someone, they will leave him; thus, he has always been a love 'em and leave 'em guy when it comes to romantic involvements. 3 stars This book is the 3rd in a series about the Harper siblings; in this case, the main subject is the youngest one - Caleb. Because of this, Caleb has always had a fear of commitment as he is afraid that if he opens his heart to someone, they will leave him; thus, he has always been a love 'em and leave 'em guy when it comes to romantic involvements. Audrey Martinez is the best equine veterinarian around which was her very purposeful goal since she was a child. She remained so focused on her career goals that she had little time for relationships and preferred casual encounters when she did entertain the idea of spending time with men. When Audrey's mother passed away suddenly, she was devastated. When her father disappeared soon after his soul mate's death, she was heartbroken. While she envied her parents' very strong, lasting, and loving bond, she had yet to find anyone that inspired those feelings in her. When a beloved auction house owner's horses fall ill under mysterious circumstances, both Audrey and Caleb agree to help get to the bottom of the matter. Doing so not only throws them together where sparks fly out of control, it also puts them in the line of danger. Will they be able to open their hearts to each other, and if so, will they survive the threat that might tear them apart permanently? What I liked about this book: --- Solid plot line that held my interest for the most part --- The main characters were likeable --- Quick-moving read with a good flow What I didn't like as much: --- While there was some suspense and mystery, the villain was pretty obvious once that character was introduced --- I like a little more "who-done-it" development in the story --- The commitment issues felt overplayed, especially since both of them had deep-rooted aversions, so it started to feel contrived verses organic as the book went on --- Only one steamy goodness scene; didn't satisfy my preferences there --- It felt like the author tried to cram too many HEA moments in there, and some of them played out too quickly with unsatisfying explanations Overall, this was a good read. While references are made re the previous books in the series, it can standalone (I haven't read the previous books, but I never felt lost or that I missed out on anything critical to this story). If you like a slow burn and plenty of angst in your romance novels, this one delivers those for sure. Plot --- 3/5 Main Characters --- 4/5 Supporting Cast --- 3.5/5 Violence --- nothing gory Language --- not egregious Steam Level --- 2/5 POV --- 3rd I was provided with an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoy the way Grant blends suspense, romance, family and ranch life. I am a sucker for a good cowboy story and Caleb Harper was swoon-worthy, even if I wanted to hit him over the head. Sibling interferences, and a twisted mystery along with an unwelcome visitor had me devouring this in just two sittings. I enjoyed watching these two deal with feelings and the undeniable chemistry. My Kindle heated when these two finally came together. I love when we see character growth and both characters experienced it. We got updates on Brice and Naomi and some news that has me yearning for a novella about them. Clayton and Abby were present as well and aided in the mystery.  This might be the last book as it wrapped up most loose ends and we've received each of the siblings stories. However, I am hoping we get a spin-off or more books with secondary characters like the boys' friends and Audrey's sister that includes updates on the Harpers.  Grant hinted at things, so I am crossing my fingers. Fans who enjoy a nice balance of suspense and romance with plenty of heart will enjoy the Heart of Texas series. While My Favorite Cowboy works as a standalone, there is an overall ARC that begs to be read in order of release. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Caleb and his family and friends come to her aide and together team up to uncover the real culprit behind the attacks. There are always strong family ties and great friends in DG's books and this one was no exception. I loved the scene where Caleb claims Audrey and her sister as part of his inner circle. For someone used to being alone and just relying on her sister, his promise to always have her back was really touching. The romance was a bit of push and pull from both sides, but the chemistry was good and getting inside both MCs heads kept the angst pretty low. Both MCs have trust issues but like mature adults, they talk through them and work it out. Overall this was a nice wrap up to the series. I hope Jace and Cooper get their own stories, these two where amazing supporting characters but would be awesome Heroes in their own stories :) Would I recommend? To complete the series, yes, I recommend it. It was a solid read and I liked that it gave us a glimpses of the other couples too. * * * ARC provided for an honest review * * * I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. My Favorite Cowboy is a wonderful contemporary romance featuring an intriguing plot. Caleb Harper is just the man for the job, a former military man with connections that can help keep Audrey safe. But as Caleb and Audrey spend time together, their instant attraction threatens to consume them both. The romance in the book takes a bit of time to get going, but when it does it is fantastic. Audrey and Caleb are attracted to each other from the minute they set eyes on each other, however the situation they're in doesn't allow them to act on that immediately. Instead there's a nice buildup of that attraction and the two form a nice little friendship while working together. I loved how the two were able to open up to each other, particularly about things they've never talked to anyone else about. When there's a lull in the horse situation, the two take a break at Caleb's ranch and from there the heat between them goes up exponentially. Their chemistry is amazing and when they finally give in to their attraction, the scenes are steamy and incredibly well done. I will say the obstacles to their starting a real relationship were good ones and it actually made sense why neither of them would want to start something. I liked the way the author dealt with those issues and overall I was happy with the romance. The plot in this book centers around Audrey trying to uncover why several of her friend's horses have gotten sick. The reasoning behind it becomes clear pretty quickly although it does take a fair amount of time to discover the exact cause of the illness. I haven't read many books that feature a vet as the main character and I found it quite interesting. Audrey is clearly good at what she does and I liked watching her work. When we find out who is behind everything, the situation made a lot of sense. Although I will say I didn't understand why it took so long for the characters to figure things out as it seemed a bit obvious to me. Overall I really enjoyed My Favorite Cowboy and I will definitely be picking the rest of the series in the future. **I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.**

I think I can officially say modern day cowboy romances are not for me. This is my third (?) one and I've generally had the same feeling as with all of the others: a lot of eye-rolling over the insta-love and wishing for something more. I found the mystery surrounding this one intriguing and I was genuinely interested in finding out who was harming the horses. But. I found the mystery surrounding this one intriguing and I was genuinely interested in finding out who was harming the horses. But. The randomly inserted POV of the hired criminal to commit those acts missed the mark in my opinion. He was more of a caricature of a villain than an actual bad guy. There was also weird transitions at times between POVs. One paragraph it was one character and the next it was another, sometimes of someone who wasn’t even in the same area as the previous character. (There was no page break or new chapter, just end sentence, next line, indented first sentence.) It caused confusion. I read an advanced copy so I can only hope this gets fixed in order to save other readers from this. Lastly, while I like Audrey and Caleb as characters, two to three days is not enough time to decide you are willing to completely change your lifestyle and ideals (from not ever wanting to be married to all of the sudden being at ease with the thought of it). If this story could have been spread over months or even weeks I would have found this more believable. I just have a very hard time with insta-love and it normally has an adverse effect on me and I spend my time thinking of the implausibility of it all instead of focusing on the story.

Another suspenseful contemporary western romance from the Heart of Texas series brings us the last single Harper sibling, Caleb front and center. Caleb has been the most adamant about never putting his heart on the line after his mother abandoned him and his older siblings, but he has met his match in a woman driven by her work with horses and equally determined to stay detached after her mother died and her dad walked away. With a person in the shadows determined to bring the beautiful vet down and their own sizzling attraction, I was all in to see how this pair of resistant lovers got on. My Favorite Cowboy is book three and tells a standalone plot though the familial story builds from one book to the next. First there was Abby, then Brice, and now Caleb. This may be the last, but I'm holding out for Cooper and Jase to eventually get their stories. Audrey Martinez has worked hard and is known as the best vet in the area so that she has the luxury of picking her clients out of the big local ranches. But, her heart is for her horse patients and her old family friend has horses mysteriously falling ill. It is while she races to save her patients that she encounters Caleb and his family who are also out to help David. It isn't long before other mysterious incidents lead everyone to wonder if David is the real target or is it Audrey. Meanwhile, the attraction between Audrey and Caleb turns sizzling and this pair of people terrified of real intimacy and relationships need to decide if a chance at happiness is worth reaching for. I have come to really enjoy this series. I think Abby and Clayton's story in The Christmas Cowboy Hero will always be my favorite, but that doesn't take away from how much I have enjoyed Brice and Naomi and now Caleb and Audrey's stories. A parent abandoning her children had far reaching effects, but the three Harpers learned to be for each other and embrace others into a growing and strong family of their own. That has become clear as the series progressed. I've also enjoyed the ranch setting and the new elements added with Audrey's veterinary care of the horses and Caleb's gentling and training of horses. The suspense element took a while to develop and was strong, but took back seat to the personal growth and romance. The romance was paced out over the distance of the book. Attraction was there from the beginning including some fun banter, but the pair of them fought their feelings and came to their own separate crisis moments where they had to confront their own fears. Caleb's is obvious and there all along, but Audrey doesn't figure out that she is as resistant as Caleb for similar reasons until later. They do belong together and it is obvious to all around them and even to each other. Their eventual coming together is scorching hot and they both are confident, adventuresome lovers. Whew, yeah! All in all, it was another strong and fabulous installment in the series. As I said before, I'm not sure if this is the finale. I would love to get those last two single cowboys' stories... just saying. Those who enjoy spicy contemporary western romance with a strong family and suspense element should give this series a whirl. My thanks to St. Martin's via Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Caleb and Audrey are both like minded when it comes to relationships and pretty much don’t do them. I loved that they both were on the same page. They are working together to find out who is hurting the horses. Audrey is a well sought after equine vet and I loved how passionate she was about the animals. Caleb is a cowboy and ranch owner who could be intense and closed off at times but he meant well. When you find out his backstory it all makes sense. I love the relationship the brothers and sister have with each other. I love how the in-laws get along. I felt like I was apart of the gang and I will definitely have to read the first two books. This was my first time reading this author and it wasn’t a bad read. The last few chapters held my attention and I enjoyed how everything unfolded. When the villain and motive are revealed it was something I didn’t see coming. So that was another plus in my book. I really don’t read contemporary cowboy romance books but this was a good read with likable characters. *NetGalley Review*

This is the third book in the Heart of Texas series and features the youngest sibling, Caleb. Caleb was probably the most affected by his mother's abandonment of the the three children so it's stands to reason he has issues committing to a woman beyond one night. However, all that changes when he meets Aubrey and realizes that she might just be worth more than a night. Now he just needs to convince her of the same. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. My Favorite Cowboy by Donna Grant is my FIRST contemporary romance that I have read from Donna Grant and I haven't read her in quite a while. But when I was offered the ARC of this book, I just knew I had to grab it up because one its Donna Grant and she is writing cowboys, so how could I ever resist? Because I never can resist a sexy cowboy in a stetson and boots. So I was really impressed with this book and I swept through the story very quickly...much faster than I even expected from myself. This is a mix of a military hero, some suspense/mystery elements, a vet as our heroine and some hot cowboy lovin'....so much goodness is contained in this book and I gobbled it up like it was chocolate. Our story begins with our heroine, who is a veterinarian with a specific field in expertise in horses. She loves everything about horses and devotes everything to their protection and care. She works with two main ranches and is well-known as one of the best in the area. She has the expertise but she also has a deep love for horses and that makes her someone who is highly coveted in the area. When a family friend, calls her in for help who runs an auction house for horseflesh and he has four horses that are getting sick with no reason why. She is devastated and determined why and she starts to realize that they are being poisoned on purpose but she has to be careful in giving them the right medication or it could kill them or worse. And this is where she runs into Caleb who is Texas true and tough. He is a military hero and also runs his own ranch in training horses and has a gift with them. When he and his family reaches out to Audrey to help discover who is behind the poisoning and why someone is targeting Audrey, sparks fly between them and true love is about to rear its head on them both. I have to say that I was very impressed with how My Favorite Cowboy was written here. Now there is no doubt that Donna Grant is a talented author, I have been everything from her historical's to her paranormal and now her contemporary. I love how well versed she is in the various genres and there is something for everyone to enjoy. What I really enjoy about Donna Grant is her talent for story telling. She is the type of author that will always deliver a superb story and My Favorite Cowboy is no different. This is the first time I have read a contemporary romance from Donna Grant. However, this book was fantastic. I really loved the focus being around horses and solving a mystery. I love a good mystery in a romance and I just don't see it enough and what a well told mystery this one was. There are levels of suspense so it does keep you on the edge at times, but I really enjoyed how the story evolves from beginning to end. We see in this story though some complexities that I wasn't even expecting. Both the hero and the heroine have a deep reverence for horses and you see how much horses matter to them. I really liked seeing how these two work together in the end. Our hero is a bit of a bad boy at times though. He did serve in the military and still suffers the affect of PTSD at times. We see what a great bond that he has with his siblings and how much they stick together and help each other no matter the situation. Caleb likes his women though, he always has flings and never has been serious with anyone until Audrey. He looks at Audrey very differently than any other women he has had interest in the past. He has some issues with women though since his mother abandoned her children when they were little. But he trusts Audrey and doesn't even understand why he looks at her differently but he senses that there is something more to Audrey. Audrey is a very strong and capable heroine but she isn't one to have casual affairs at all. She is looking for the real thing and willing to wait for it. I love how determined and intelligent she is and how passionate she is about life but most especially about her work with horses. She isn't one to trust easily but I enjoyed seeing her allow Caleb and his family into her tight circle. The romance that builds between Caleb and Audrey is sexy and sweet like you would expect from a western romance. Now I love me some hot cowboy lovin', but this had so much more emotion and intimacy that I have grown to admire about this author. I loved the level of chemistry that builds between these two, but there is also a firm emotional bond that grows with the level of affection and trust and seeing this growth is fundamental to the story. I truly adored seeing Caleb and Audrey come together, they were such an endearing pair and you gravitate toward these two. There is a focus on the plot and the mystery and danger aspects that had some intensity to the story. I really enjoyed this part and yeah I will admit that I didn't suspect the villain for quite some time. You see the villain enter the story, but you don't see that this person is the one responbile for the horses being poisoned more like an added conflict to the story so I was really surprised when everything is revealed in the end and what a fabulous ending to savor!!

Someone has poisoned three horses at a friend's stables and she is desperately trying to save the horses. Caleb Harper was deeply scarred when his mother walked out on him and his brother and sister when they were still small, he was affected more than the others (or maybe just in a different way) because he actually saw her leaving and begged her to stay. Now he never lets any woman close, he knows a million ways to let a woman go. When Caleb and his brother and brother-in-law find out about the poisoning they are the first to pitch in to try to catch the poisoner, but what is the motive? Caleb and Audrey feel an instant attraction, but can they overcome their pasts and catch the poisoner? I'll be honest, other than Donna Grant's writing there was nothing I liked about this novel, which is a pity because I like Donna Grant's other novels. I thought Audrey was severely lacking social skills, indeed so was Caleb, she needed her sister to point out basic human responses. She put her work above everything and had no friends other than clients or potential clients. Caleb was the sort of guy who sees a relationship hurdle and instead of acting immediately by, I don't know picking up the phone, he stews for five days, blames work pressures and doesn't want to use the telephone because its too impersonal! You just slept with the woman and then ghosted her for five days FFS. The plot kind of fizzed out, mired in the quagmire of Caleb's indecision and Audrey's lack of self-worth, then got settled bish-bash-bosh by some circumstantial evidence and (of course) a recorded confession. Overall, I found this cliche-ridden, turgid and the villain's motivations made no sense to me. A pity because I did enjoy the first book but revisiting my review of the second book it seems like I had the same complaints about the plot taking a back-seat to sex and angst in the second book. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review. Bumped for release.

‘My Favorite Cowboy’ is about the youngest Harper brother Caleb. Caleb is a handsome cowboy who’s past made him into a ‘new-woman-every-day’ kind of man. Caleb doesn’t believe he is someone worthy of love, and he has made his peace with it. He loves working on his ranch, and he loves his family. What more does he need? But Audrey had her own problems, and she has never opened her heart to a guy. But after looking at the handsome cowboy she finds herself wanting everything with him. I enjoyed the second book in this series, but this third book I loved. From the moment I started reading I just completely loved Caleb and Audrey. Audrey is this hardworking woman who made a great life for herself. She studied hard and worked hard to become the best. And she lives for her work. I really liked Audrey’s character right from the beginning. She is tough, and passionate about what she does. She was definitely easy to like. And Caleb… Handsome, hardworking and he would do anything for the people he loves. Yes, I definitely loved him too. The romance in this book was great. A little predictable, yes. But also just butterflies in your stomach good. I loved how Caleb and Audrey struggled with their instant intense attraction to one another. They where just so good together. But they both had a lot of insecurities and issues to get through. It was definitely to read about these too. The suspense in this book was also pretty good. It kept me hooked and wanting to keep on reading. Someone was hurting these horses, and Audrey was determined to find out who and what they where hurting these horses with. It definitely kept me sitting on the edge of my seat. Just as with the previous book, I found the suspense part of this book coming to a bit of an abrupt end.. But it sure was good. ‘My Favorite Cowboy’ was definitely a great read. I just loved it from the beginning till the end.

My Favorite Cowboy is the story of Caleb Harper, the youngest of the Harper siblings and the most troubled by being abandoned by their mother. Despite being the third book in the series, in which Caleb had already been introduced as a character, this story can be read as a standalone. The previous stories included Caleb as a boy and young adult but this time around Caleb is all man and he knows exactly what he wants in life: his business, his family, and meaningless sex. His days and nights were just as he wanted it, that was until a chance encounter with horse veterinarian Audrey Martinez filled his mind with a few ‘what if’ questions that he couldn’t rightfully answer. Audrey and Caleb both had personal issues stemming from their parent’s absence and it created walls around their hearts that made them both insecure and guarded. Those feelings shaped every interaction between the two characters and made the wins very sweet but there were also many instances of frustration as well. There were quite a few back and forth moments where an insecurity or fear of some sort would rear its ugly head and that could be a turn off to some readers. I can’t say I was a fan of the waffling but like I said, it did make the wins that much sweeter. This story had an interesting mystery, steamy romance, and fierce love for animals (especially horses), which are all aspects that most romance readers could appreciate. I liked it as well but I just wasn’t as drawn into the story as I would have liked. I wasn’t over the moon on what was taking place with the mystery or the romance and the ending was nice but I would have liked more from the mystery/suspense portion of the story. Overall, My Favorite Cowboy was an enjoyable read that would serve as a great series ender but I hope not because I would like to see the other characters in this series have their chance at a happily ever after.
