An average read. 3 stars The h continues to purposely hinder her magical education. It’s growing tiresome.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books... 1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future. 2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author. 3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up. 4 sta Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books... 1 star... It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Although I'd figured out they were in the same universe just based on the nature of magic/creatures and expressions, the crossover with Starry Hollow just felt kind of gratuitious. That said, I'm really into this series. The story deserves 4 stars but I removed one for the blatant blather about someone with the initials DT. Sure you can write what you want, it's one of the great joys of an inkslinger, the harpooning of character types, but do so with aplomb and not just driviling snark. One change would have made it 5 stars Great story until the politics was added. No need for the addition of the goblin, it threw the story off for me and I’m sure for others also

Sadly, Just poorly written Unfortunately this book and series is going on my poorly written/badly edited shelf, don’t bother shelf. Spoilers warning folks: It’s all too precious and easy. Our main character is a sorceress snatched off the river after rescuing a newly arrived home vet and his family. Whisked off to magic college that is just another boarding school (ala Howgwarts) where the MC is just scared everyone will find her deep dark secret that she is the daughter of (gasp) a dark wizard. Whisked off to magic college that is just another boarding school (ala Howgwarts) where the MC is just scared everyone will find her deep dark secret that she is the daughter of (gasp) a dark wizard. I don’t mind boarding school novels. I rather like them, but gah! It’s too easy. Break into a dark Vampire’ secret auction with another shady (yet hart throbbingly gorgeous vampire)? Easy. How do we know he’s hot? Because we are reminded of it at awkward intervals and when women and girls fall over themselves to please him. Get caught by super bad vampire in his vault? No consequences. Steal a magic blood stone. She just has tea and has to go fetch a book. And the only drama on the trip is burying a Cave Troll and getting drunk while walking the streets of a cape cod like seaside village. Need to manufacture some sort of magic to defeat bad monsters? No need for practice, this sorceress is so amazing she practically just has to wiggle her nose or bob her head and voila. Instant solution. (She’s Moses folks parting water at 4) Magic blood that can make people do anything, survive any poison, and break any enchantment? Done. Roommates that are not only kind and understanding, but are just in time for every rescue, and will help burry a demon’ body. Yup. There isn’t any drama to hold the story. Life, is messy. People are mean, indifferent, complex, and at twenty something should not sound like high schoolers. There is little romance to hold interest. And I dislike lengthy exposition and internal dialogue that borders on whining “I’m so evil, look at my Dad.” Magic white owl (Harry Potter anyone) Icarus as the chorus “you are good. Trust your magic.” Lather, rinse, repeat, through Two books. Finally. I get it. But a bit character named Donald Trumpkin a real estate goblin? Really?

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I’m disappointed. If I could, I’d give this 2,5 stars. The thing is: the good things about this book, kinda got shaded by the bad ones! I really like the dialogues and the dynamic of the characters, but cmon, it’s that hard to remember things said in the first book? Bryn’s roommates have each a familiar. Their names simply changed from book 1 (Coco, Pepper, Ariana) to book 2 (Clementine, Pepper, Haggis). What the heck??? Then my eyes rolled to the back of my head with the Goblin named Donald Thum I’m disappointed. If I could, I’d give this 2,5 stars. Then my eyes rolled to the back of my head with the Goblin named Donald Thumpking (this greedy, jackass wife-cheater) I mean, really? I certainly don’t read fantasy books to be reminded of politics. Also the main character is not 15, she’s is not 18, she’s 20 years old I think that drinking while you are on a mission to retrieve a rare and dangerous book it’s not really a smart move. “Some say this book may be cursed.” “Oooh. Ok, hit me with the shots!! (Me, a non drinker)” face palm Plus there’s the issue of Bryn’s power. The girl almost never used her magic out of fear of being discovered, but as soon as she is throw in the magical world she is this badass witch who can do crazy powerful magic without training! I love badass heroines, but it seems a little... well, non logical. And don’t get me wrong (English is not even my first language) but there are a lot of typing/grammar errors... I liked the idea of this book, honestly. But the errors kinda killed my vibe... At the end, not even cute Gray is enough to make me read the last one. I’m just gonna give the Sentry of the South a chance cause I really liked Dani and I hope things are better developed in her series.

Set in the same world as the Spellbound and Starry Hollow books, which I have devoured in a matter of 2 weeks, this trilogy (my review is for all 3 books in Bryn's trilogy) feels slighter darker and more gritty than the others and that is no bad thing. Bryn knows that she has magic but does not realise that there is an entire world which exists entirely of it living parallel to the human one. She finds herself rescued for a dangerous situation and in the Spellslingers school for magical training Set in the same world as the Spellbound and Starry Hollow books, which I have devoured in a matter of 2 weeks, this trilogy (my review is for all 3 books in Bryn's trilogy) feels slighter darker and more gritty than the others and that is no bad thing. Bryn knows that she has magic but does not realise that there is an entire world which exists entirely of it living parallel to the human one. She finds herself rescued for a dangerous situation and in the Spellslingers school for magical training. There she takes neatly takes the place of a girl who led the school and finds herself on the path of future warden of the west, a concept we were introduced to in Spellbound. I am still hoping we get to find out more about that tie in. There are a couple small nods to the other towns in the magical world and it remains a fun one. Bryn herself is a survivor and her whole character centres around this. From the very start she has to prove her worth and finds allies, but also enemies in unexpected places. The world has it's darker corners and Bryn gets to experience a lot of that. Her friendship with Gary, the troubled vampire, is a delight and I love that there is a slow burn of friendship before romance here. All in all a great read, I look forward to the next trilogy, although I am disappointed that we won't be continuing with Bryn's.

Beware of Secrets I was incorrect in my last review; this is not the first series Ms. Chase has written. In fact, the protagonist gets to visit one of the settings of one of the previous series I have read. At least, I think think she does. As I usually write my reviews as I read (hopefully careful not to give away spoilers) I really don't know if she actually makes the trip. There is a point in the book that I have highlighted, and it seems no one else did. I am glad there is a final one, so saying goodbye to these characters isn't hard to do. This is not goodbye to any of these characters yet. A little more information about one person would have been helpful/nice, but later events cleared part of my confusion to my satisfaction. Just read the series. Well worth the time.

Better than the First Better than the first book, but still lacking in character development. It feels like we've barely scratched the surface of these characters, and that is frustrating. My biggest issue is the lack of description when it comes to the characters. When I read it's like a movie in my head and this has all the characters blurry-no descriptions of "green eyes flashing" or "pulled my frizzy brown hair back into a ponytail". Another great book in the Warden of the West series, featuring vibrant characters and an innovative system of magic, make this a fast pasted adventure. Outclassed is another great adventure/paranormal mystery from the Spellslingers Academy. Brynn is a snarky, fun character to follow as once again she investigates a murder on school grounds. The story moves quick with lots of action and danger for a fun, must finish it all at once, read. I love the chemistry between Brynn and Gray as the reader gets drawn into will they get together or not. Brynn's struggle not to turn evil proves just how good she is, even in the face of prejudice and danger. Th Outclassed is another great adventure/paranormal mystery from the Spellslingers Academy. Brilliant!! Annabel Chase never fails to disappoint. This is the second book in the Spellslingers Academy series, (best read in order)!where we follow Bryan Morrow as she attempts to navigate life in the paranormal world having been brought up in the human world (Terrene), in hiding, from an evil magical father, a secret kept from everyone. Seriously!! Just Bad Taste!! I was really enjoying every book so far in this series. I gave 5 stars, but REALLY you have to get all political in a PARANORMAL BOOK??? You ruined the book for me. It's everywhere it DOESN’T NEED TO BE IN A mystery crime solving book!!! I am beyond disappointed. Seriously!! Just Bad Taste!! I was really enjoying every book so far in this series. Now in book two of this series Bryn will come face to face with her choices and her magical background. This all comes on the heels of a murder on academy grounds of a human. Great story! A fledgling sorcerous with snark. ;p This is the second book in the series and I decided to finally put the book down long enough to write this review. The girl has a great bad attitude, makes me smile. Great mystery solved and friends made. I can’t wait to read the 3rd book!!
