Instagram || Twitter || Facebook || Amazon || Pinterest I'm sure you've seen Jacqueline Chen's art on the internet before. She's famous for her adorable chibi style bunnies, birds, kitties, and ghosts that are usually labeled with a positive, heart-warming message. One of the most popular ones I've seen floating around is the "sending virtual hug" one, although sadly a lot of people have altered it to remove her signature from the drawing. (Bad people! Shame! One of the most popular ones I've seen floating around is the "sending virtual hug" one, although sadly a lot of people have altered it to remove her signature from the drawing. (Bad people! Shame! Artists need virtual hugs, too!) When I saw LOADING PENGUIN HUGS on Netgalley, I recognized the cuddly, soft, squishy art style immediately and nearly tripped over myself in my haste to hit "request." I am so proud of this author for snagging a book deal because her art has often given me a small lift when I was having a bad day, and I often send her little drawings to friends who seem a little down, because how can you not smile at a happy little bunny who wants you to have a good day and thinks you're amazing? You can't. The art in this book is great, and reminiscent of the Pusheen and Sarah's Scribbles comics in that while I'm sure some of these are featured on her websites, there are a couple new ones thrown in. All of the illustrations are full color and while I have the e-copy and can't speak to paper quality or anything fancy-shmancy like that, I really, really enjoyed (virtually) flipping through all these pages. Positivity is one of those messages that can sometimes get warped in the telling. People sometimes conflate self-care with license to be selfish, but self-care is about taking care of yourself and being your best self, which in turn shapes your relationships with the people around you for the better. Chibird totally gets that, and really underscores that positivity is a two-way process and that being a caring individual means loving yourself and the important people in your life just as fiercely. I loved this book and wish I had a hard copy of it to cherish (the real one apparently comes with STICKERS - oh my god, I love stickers), but reading the e-copy of it was just as good. Trust me. I don't always endorse the books I receive as ARCs unequivocally, but when I do, they completely deserve it. Thanks to Netgalley/the publisher for the review copy! 5 stars!

I absolutely love Chibird to begin with, so I was really excited to read this, and it is exactly what I needed today. Jacqueline Chen specializes in motivational comics, and this entire book is just full of motivation, inspiration, optimism, hope, love, warmth, positivity, and cuteness. If there has ever been a warm, cozy hug in book form, Loading Penguin Hugs is it. ♥ All quotes come from an advance copy and may not match the final release. This collection of comics is short at 88 pages but I have read it three times (so far).  The author's illustrations are just so cute and feature animals, people, and small pep talks.  I am not sure how many of them have been previously featured on her website but I loved them. Cute and inspiring book of comics. The art is very good and crisp and the humor was on point. My only dislike is some of the quotes feel very repetitive. ℹ Disclosure: I received an arc copy of this book from Andrews McMeel Publishing via NetGalley and I’m reviewing it voluntarily.

I love flicking through these ebooks of cute compiled images sometimes. I often see the gif versions of these fly by on WhatsApp and they are the cutest. It was lovely to see some new ones in here and it was such a heartwarming read :)

This was the cutest book in the whole entire world of cute. This would be a perfect book to put in the restroom, the doctors office, or in your classroom. Sometimes we need to know that we aren't perfect, but that its okay. I couldn't have smiled more or been more happy after reading this book. Oh my goodness. Cuteness alert! Funny and cute but at the same time very light. One page reminder, thinking, motivation cartoons that is good for the moral. The kind of book you could let out in your house and pick it up at a random page when you feel a bit depress.

In addition to the really cute artwork, the point of the book is to be able to open it when you are having a rough day to have a reminder that you can do whatever it is you are struggling with. I LOVE that. If you can't tell from the cover, the artwork in this book is adorable! There are these really cute little penguins, dogs, and other animals in it that really make you feel all warm and fuzzy. There is even an entire panel of "Positive Puppers" which I loved so much. They are all so cute! I like that the message behind this book is positive reinforcements. At the back of the book there is even an index for if you are feeling a certain way you can turn to a short comic to help you. As a negative, cynical person, whom has never felt like they have ever been "good enough" a lot of these comics had things I definitely needed to hear. If you are down in the dumps and need some motivation, or just some support this is a great place to find that. This is a short read, it's only about 88 pages long. I actually flipped through the whole thing on my lunch break. So it's definitely a book I recommend if you want a short but fun read. *I received an egalley of this comic from Netgalley

This book is an absolute delight to read. It's everything I needed after a long week of classes and studying - simple, cheerful, and motivational. The comics in Loading Penguin Hugs are mostly single-panel stand-alone comics featuring ADORABLE art that reminds me of Pusheen or similar chibi-style animation. If someone gave me a greeting card featuring one of Jacqueline Chen's characters, I would probably tear up. It's just so simple and cute. I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was a third of the way into Loading Penguin Hugs when I abruptly stopped reading and went to pre-order it for a friend. It is the perfect book for so many of us, and if I were loaded with penguins cash, I’d pre-order it for half a dozen more friends. You may already be familiar with this artist because of her ghost hug gif that’s been floating around the internet (“you can’t feel it but it’s there!”). This whole book is full of the same cute art and sentiments! While the art is sweet and childlike, I’d say the motivational messages in here are more relevant to teenagers and young adults. Those two age groups are have grown up under the influence of a social media that forces us to constantly compare ourselves to our peers and to only see our flaws as contrasted by their successes. This book is not just full of encouragement, but it also acknowledges negative feelings and accepts that they’re necessary sometimes. I would recommend this to stressed teenagers, panicking young adults, to anyone who wants a hug but can’t get one at the moment, and to someone who needs to be reminded that nice things exist in this world. :)

Absolutely as adorable and inspiring as expected. Although I am not usually a person to search out positive affirmations like the ones here, I just cannot resist the adorableness of the drawings–especially the penguin! My only concern is that there were quite a few blank pages in the digital download, so I wonder if there were some comics that I missed out on reading or if there would be a placeholder on those pages. Cute af. I had seen the author's illustrations before and I found them super cute. They're sweet and motivational at the same time and that's difficult to do, but the author really achieves it.
