Love it! Love it! LOVE IT! Do you get that I really liked this one? This is such a fun, cozy mystery series and it never fails to deliver humor, quirky characters and a mystery. As summer draws to an end, so does Fortune's time in Sinful. LA. Having to relocate is not something Fortune wants to do. Unfortunately, Fortune is no closer to being safe than she was when she came here. Ahmed, the arms dealer threatening Fortune's life, is still on the loose and Fortune is pretty sure she doesn't want to return to the CIA. Her options are in short supply and I just hope she doesn't make a really foolish choice. Fortune doesn't want to continue her life in limbo, waiting for the CIA to find, capture or kill Ahmed. She is ready and determined to end this with or without CIA assistance. Bait, Fortune is ready to offer herself up as bait in order to entrap Ahmed. But Ahmed isn't the only living creature on the loose that belongs in a trap. Godzilla, Gertie's pet alligator is menacing Main Street and sent Celia up the nearest light pole. Celia has vowed to kill him and wants everyone arrested, of course. Godzilla needs a safe wildlife refuge and fast. While waiting for the CIA to set a plan in motion, Fortune, Gertie and Ida Belle have a thief to catch. Someone is stealing food from the diner and our girls must solve the "Case of the Missing Morsels". As Fortune, with a little help from some unexpected places, prepares to face off with Ahmed, she and Carter realize that as different as they are, they want to see where this relationship goes. The only thing in their way is Ahmed and since this is a really nasty, mean, tricky SOB he is a very big obstacle.

The eleventh book of the Miss Fortune Mystery series by Jana Deleon. Someone is taking food from the local café so the gang is on the job to find out who. Then there is Godzilla who is terrorizing the neighborhood and Fortune and the gang must catch him before someone kills him. And then, of course, it's time to force Ahmad's hand so Fortune puts herself up as bait to get him. Another excellent addition to a fun series. Fortune and Carter are becoming more involved. Change of Fortune by Jana Deleon is the 11th book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. Fed up with hiding out, Fortune sets up a trap for Ahmad, while also dealing with Celia and Godzilla, and the case of the missing food from the cafe. This has to be one of my favourite books in the series as Fortune contemplates making changes to her life and her relationship with Carter develops. Plenty of laughs as usual and a lot of fun.

Fortune has decided she would like to stay in Sinful which means she needs to set up a sting to kill Ahmad. New Orleans, lots of guns, and CIA operatives are involved. Gertie's alligator provided a couple of the most hilarious scenes in the book although Ronald came a close second. Parts of this book were serious as Fortune has to take out an old adversary in order to avoid looking over her shoulder forever. I wonder where the author takes the story now. I know I'll be right here watching.

In this 11th book about Fortune and her summer in Sinful, Louisiana, instead of enjoying the antics of the locals, Fortune has decided it is time to be out from under the threat of Ahmad. It's just that it is time to lure Ahmad to Fortune and end it once and for all. It will be her final mission, and the most important one of her life. When she enlists help from some dubious acquaintances, Fortune finds out she is respected in her career, and has more friends for life. Gertie and Ida Belle are up to their usual standards of mischief and avoidance of Carter, who has become a little more understanding of the women and their antics. Or perhaps it is just his perpetual shock at having to deal with Cecelia. There are plenty of surprises as well as some predictable moments. The author, however, has everything under control as the reader can't help but rush to the end if the story. Best news of all was the announcement that the next Miss Fortune Mystery will be out later in 2018! As always the book was fun from beginning to end with circumstances that funny and filled with witty dialog. Don't miss this book!

2020 bk 99: Fortune is tired of living in hiding. With Ahmad doing work in New Orleans, he is too close to her, suggesting a move to a new city with a new identity or.. Fortune gives Harrison an ultimatum - set her up as bait to take down Ahmad. When Gertie, Ida Belle, and Carter insist on a role, Fortune has to figure a plan to keep her loved ones safe and still be able to take care of Ahmad. One of the more tense of the Miss Fortune titles, but still with fun.

6 Stars! Change of Fortune is book 11 in A Miss Fortune Mystery series. The series is set in Sinful, Louisiana, USA and follows Fortune, who is a CIA assassin in hiding, and old ladies Gertie and Ida Belle, who are lifelong Sinful residents and ex-spy war veterans, as they help solve a string of various crimes and murders. This series is the first series of Cozy Mystery books that I have read. This is a new-to-me genre and I am really loving it. Once I listened to the first book, I couldn't stop 6 Stars! This series is the first series of Cozy Mystery books that I have read. This is a new-to-me genre and I am really loving it. Once I listened to the first book, I couldn't stop. So far, I have been listening to all of the books back to back and I'm not quite ready to stop. I recommend reading/listening to these books in order since each book builds upon the prior book's story and it makes it much more entertaining and enjoyable to go in order. However, if you choose to start with this book, there is a very brief introduction at the beginning that explains the series. This is the first of the books to do that. There is humor throughout, but the first chapter was so funny, that I had tears from laughing. Change of Fortune has a little bit of everything and so much is happening. Gertie's pet alligator, Godzilla, is terrorizing the town in search for baked goods. Things have finally come to a head with the Ahmad situation and Fortune decides to offer herself up as bait in an attempt to end Ahmad and his threats once and for all. Amongst all of that, the ladies are trying to solve the mystery of missing food from Fancine's diner. Once again, Fortune teams up with Big and Little Hebert and their head bodyguard, Manny. We learn a bit more about them in this book too. We get more of Fortune's partner, Harrison, in this book and get to watch them working together. Harrison to Carter: "The woman sitting next to you is one of the best we have and have had for well over a decade. She's an awesome human being and a she's also the deadliest person I have ever known. If anyone can handle Ahmad, it's Fortune." I really like Harrison. I wish we could have had more of him throughout the series. If you like books with a big dose of humor, this is the series for you. I have found myself laughing out loud too many times to count. The same narrator reads for the whole series. She does a good job and I really like the fact that the character voices are consistent from book to book.

I've given all the books in the Miss Fortune series a 4 or 5. This one should have been among the best because the back story takes a big jump. I found it deflating. Most of the "humor" revolves around making fun of Celia, the towns woman cast as the villain. The meanness of Fortune and her sidekicks, Ida Bell and Gertie towards Celia came across as school yard bullying by the in-crowd. It was always hard to imagine Celia as horrible as she is portrayed in prior installments. After all, if she w I've given all the books in the Miss Fortune series a 4 or 5. It was always hard to imagine Celia as horrible as she is portrayed in prior installments. After all, if she was nearly elected mayor in a small town where everyone had known her for decades, how bad could she be? But then, to pile on poor Celia and make fun of her unfashionable clothes and weight, well, it made Fortune and her buddies look worse than Celia. The other aspect of this installment that was hard to bear was the author's repeated use of certain phrases. Characters "sigh", lips "quiver", and "eyes widen". A lot. Over and over again. I was starting to wince every time someone's eyes widened. Oh, well. Lots of back story threads are wrapped up in one book, which made me wonder whether it will be the last. I hope not, but I also hope that, if the series continues, Celia is retired as the evil demon and Fortune and friends become a little kinder.

Eureka! The time has come for the initial plot device to wrap up, and although it didn’t take too long, it was totally worth it. This one fell flat for me. I am not sure why, but I think it tries too hard. Though the series continues, the main arc of Fortune's journey up until this point ends here. And honestly, it is boring! By the time the climax came around, I wanted Ahmed dead just to end my own misery. Despite efforts to create tension, the entire take-down left me unmoved. (Maybe if I did not know there were more books in the series I would have felt more tension?) Not my favorite in this series by a long shot. But, of course, still filled with the series signature flair and humor that makes it worth reading anyway!

This book felt very different from the others. There was still some of the crazy you come to expect from residents of Sinful. But there was definitely less of it. I think this was an important part of the story and needed to be said, but it is a very different type of book. Hopefully this will be a turning point in the series and not the end of it.

This is the story where Fortune takes her life in her own hands to do what is necessary to make the changes she desires. Sure there’s the funny story of Gertie and the rest of Swamp Team 3 trying to capture the casserole addicted Godzilla and get him to a wildlife preserve before Celia can do him in. The ongoing feud between the certifiably insane Celia and Ida Belle, Gertie and Fortune provides plenty of laughs as does Fortune’s quirky neighbor. And there’s the mystery of where the food in Francine’s freezer is disappearing to, to be addressed. But the real story here is Fortune, tired of having to look over her shoulder, tired of pretending to be someone and something she’s not, forced to put the future she envisions for herself on hold, while hiding from Ahmad the international terrorist/arms dealer who has put a bounty on her head deciding to take matters into her own hands and force the issue. She decides rather than hide from Ahmad and his minions she’s going to use herself as bait to lure him into a trap and end him as only the CIA’s most deadly assassin can. And in this book we not only hear about how deadly Fortune is, we actually get to witness just how capable she is. Fortune is a woman who was groomed from a young age to be a trained killer and when the time is right, she doesn’t hesitate, doesn’t think twice, she acts with cold deadly precision. Deleone does an outstanding job of building the tension from the time Fortune informs CIA Assistant Director Morrow of her decision until the time she confronts Ahmad in a fateful showdown. As usual Fortune isn’t alone in completing this mission. She has plenty of help from her friends along the way. With five more books remaining in the series little of Fortune’s life is set in stone. She knows she wants to live in Sinful. She knows she wants to try and give her relationship with Deputy Carter Leblanc a real try. She thinks she might like to try her hand at being a private investigator. But nothing is definite and final. Where she’ll live, what she’ll do for a living and how the people who don’t know who she really is will react when she reveals herself to them is still a mystery. As is the long term potential of her relationship with Carter. Although to be honest I think at this point only Ally among those close to her is still in the dark as to Fortune’s true identity. I realize this isn’t a contemporary romance series and that Fortune’s relationship with Carter is only one part of her story. Still I think Deleone continues to fall short in fleshing out this area (no pun intended). Carter talks about having fallen for Fortune and how miserable he was when he broke up with her after discovering her true identity. Fortune talks about how depressed she was, how her heart hurt when Carter broke things off with her. We know they are now sleeping together. But the way the author writes their relationship I’m left feeling like they are two casual friends with benefits more than two people who are falling in love with each other. Neither is desperate to spend time with the other the way people in love in a new relationship would be demanding careers aside. They’re both understanding when plans fall through but at the same time neither seems very disappointed when plans to be together don’t work out. It seems as often as not neither has a problem with calling it a night and going home without sleeping together. They enjoy spending time together but it doesn't seem to be a priority for either of them. Just my opinion but their relationship seems more like very casual dating and having sex when its convenient, than the relationship everyone implies they have. For that reason I’m giving this book a solid 4 stars but withholding that final star.

She wants her life back so she doesn't have to keep looking over her shoulder. While a CIA assassin, she had stored her empathy and feelings away so they wouldn't get in the way of any of her missions. But now, living in Sinful, Louisiana and opening herself up to the friendship and caring of Gertie, Ida Belle, Ally and of course Carter who she has very strong feelings for and she doesn't want to turn back! She wants to end her CIA career and remain in Sinful, but as long as Ahmed is after her, she can't. So... she decides to become bait to flush him out with the help of her CIA handlers, Carter, her Mob friends, Big, Little and Manny and of course Gertie and Ida Belle. She knows it may mean her life, but she is tired of living the way she has been and wants to take her life back! Also we have two side themes running along with the main theme. Godzilla, the huge alligator that Gertie has been feeding is now terrorizing the town and must be caught and moved before Celia, the troublemaker, tries to kill him. Also, who has been stealing food from Francine's cafe? A job for the Sinful ladies to solve since they want to maybe start a PI business if Fortune can and decides to stay in Sinful. With lots of laughs, especially at the expense of Celia the former mayor who hates the ladies and Fortune especially and always want them arrested and with Fortune's so called "eccentric" code word for crazy next door neighbor you just have to laugh out loud. I found myself doing that a lot in this book as well as turning the pages and not putting the book down once I started it! I can't wait to find out what is next for Fortune and company since no one else in the town really had any idea who she really was. What could possibly happen next? There was a hint that the ladies may go on a vacation...hmmmm and of course you have Celia who still wants to get Fortune out of town and the ladies arrested. So much more fun awaits and I can't wait for the next book in this MUST read series.

It's been a long, long ride. 11 books... And finally the Ahmad situation is handled!! A lot of things are actually addressed or revealed in this novel, and I appreciated the more serious tone the author managed to portray, while keeping the humor that readers have always loved. I did think the mini-mystery in this novel was a bit lacking though. With the over-looming threat of Ahmad, I couldn't quite sink my teeth into the mystery, and I felt the resolution was a bit weak. I did think the mini-mystery in this novel was a bit lacking though. With the over-looming threat of Ahmad, I couldn't quite sink my teeth into the mystery, and I felt the resolution was a bit weak. Already the novels in this series are on the shorter end, and I think the Ahmad issue took more of the spotlight, making it hard for the author to devote enough page time for the development of the mystery. I was also somewhat disappointed with the "final battle." We are shown (and told) the consequences of Fortune failing to end Ahmad, and the preparations she takes to confront add onto the tension. With such high stakes, I expected a deadly, suspense-packed battle between Fortune. Yet it kind of ended... easily? However, I do understand that this isn't an action/thriller novel, and perhaps writing action scenes isn't the author's specialty. Maybe I'm too used to battle scenes that belong to action/thriller novels. One thing I really like about this series is the relationship between Fortune and Carter. A lot of novels suffer from unequal romantic relationships, but Deleon does a great job portraying a relationship between two people who have strong personalities. Their relationship isn't perfect, and Carter has concerns about some of Fortune's actions. I find it believable that he doesn't simply roll over for her, and actually shows frustration and desire to talk things over with her, unlike in a lot of novels where the love interest just acts like a saintly doormat. Their relationship isn't stagnant, it's something that Fortune and Carter are working and compromising on. And I have to say, the side characters are awesome! I love seeing Big, Little, and Mannie. I hope there's more of them in the next novels. (Also, can we get more on Ida and Walter's situation?)

In short, if you liked the previous books then you will like this one. The girls are up to their usual antics, Ida Belle could probably drive a shopping cart at warp speed, Gertie's love for animals and firearms creates the usual havoc and Fortune is caught somewhere in the middle. The series may not have the most sophisticated humor out there, but the scene with Celia and Godzilla still made me laugh. I especially enjoy the new dynamic between Carter and the trio. In prior books, Carter knew they were culpable in some way, but couldn't prove it and therefore was often frustrated. Now, his reaction is more along the lines of "what did you do now?". This book finishes the "Fortune is changed by the most evasive and dangerous weapons dealer ever" story line. And that is the only gripe I had with it. Not, because they finally finished that background story. I was more than ready to let that go. But, because of the way it was done. The book mostly focuses on Godzilla and finding out, who is stealing from Francine. Fortune uses those cases to distract herself from the mission to capture Ahmad. This mission doesn't start until the very end of the book, and it was kind of a letdown. Given that Ahmad was that elusive for ten books, it all seemed so easy. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that Deleon focused so little on the Ahmad part and that she finally brought it to an end, but it wasn't done particularly well.

Of all of the Miss Fortune books, "Change of Fortune" is the one we been waiting for. We finally get to see a face off between Fortune and the drug dealer, Ahmad. Additionally, someone has been stealing meat from Francine at the cafe and Aly has enlisted the help of the ladies to assist in discovering the identity of the thief. This installment has all of the colorful people of Sinful, Louisiana that we have grown to love. The thing I find most endearing about this series and the wonderful blend of mystery, intrigue, and comedic levity. You just can't help but laugh at all of the shenanigans going on. Now that the Ahmad situation has been dealt with, I wonder what other things are in store for our characters? It doesn't really matter because I know that Ms. Deleon will make sure that it is incredible.

*3.5 but rounding up* This is probably one of my favorite series because it manages to balance out humor with a good mystery plot and the characters are so layered and interesting I’d read 100 more books featuring them and the town of Sinful, Louisiana. “Change of Fortune”, picks up with Celia causing trouble for the main trio and Carter as she threatens a to kill Godzilla for no other reason than to hurt Gertie, the case of the missing food from Francine’s cafe and finally the showdown we’ve all *3.5 but rounding up* This is probably one of my favorite series because it manages to balance out humor with a good mystery plot and the characters are so layered and interesting I’d read 100 more books featuring them and the town of Sinful, Louisiana. “Change of Fortune”, picks up with Celia causing trouble for the main trio and Carter as she threatens a to kill Godzilla for no other reason than to hurt Gertie, the case of the missing food from Francine’s cafe and finally the showdown we’ve all been waiting for that should it succeed will allow Fortune to stay in Sinful for good but it’s easier said than done. The hijinks in this book are just as great as all the others and the back and forth banter between our main cast and the poor people of Sinful who manage to stumble into this mess is always fun to read but I have to say I missed Walter! The ending was a bit rushed too I sort of expected a longer interaction since this was a long standing threat but overall I’m excited to see what comes next and based on everything I’ve read so far, I won’t be disappointed!
