Each chapter features a story from that book, touching on Peter, Stephen, Paul, and others. I appreciated how the themes for the chapters were built around Biblical examples, and I could tell that Suzie had done research into the time period and the context of the Scriptures. One of my favorite quotes from the book came from Chapter 3: "When lies feel like truth, we have a choice to make. We can allow those messages to define us, or we can live by truth." The Holy Spirit will certainly help us to find truth for our lives. I also loved the chapter on how the Holy Spirit looks past the labels that can become applies to our lives, and He'll equip us to do more than we would ever think possible as we surrender to Him. There's another great chapter about how the Holy Spirit fights for us because we are loved and valued. While readers may find some theological differences when discussing the gifts of the Holy Spirit, overall I would recommend this book to any woman who wants a reminder of how much God has given to us. It's easy to become discouraged, and we all face trials and difficulties. But we never face them alone. We always have God who loves us, Jesus who rescues us, and the Holy Spirit who helps us live out our faith. What confidence awaits the heart that is led by Him! I received my copy of the book from the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own. This review originated at http://reviewsbyerin.dreamwidth.org

They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” ~Luke 24:32 Have you ever had one of those moments? Where you’re going about your ordinary business, trying to make sense of things, when all of a sudden it feels as though your heart is on fire? When the hope wells up and overflows? When emotions are high and everything feels possible? When you know—just know—that God is near? This verse from Luke kept running through They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” ~Luke 24:32 Have you ever had one of those moments? Where you’re going about your ordinary business, trying to make sense of things, when all of a sudden it feels as though your heart is on fire? When the hope wells up and overflows? When emotions are high and everything feels possible? When you know—just know—that God is near? This verse from Luke kept running through my mind as I read Suzanne Eller’s new book, The Spirit-Led Heart. I have always connected closely with the idea of the Holy Spirit. Maybe it’s because I go to a Pentecostal-ish church and we operate by the Spirit, seeking after Him, not making excessive plans for the service but instead trying to connect and follow the Spirit. Maybe it goes back to the early, exciting days of my faith, when God opened my eyes to see Him in new ways, and I devoured books like Catherine Marshall’s The Helper. Whatever the reason, the minute I heard the name of Suzie Eller’s new book, I knew that it would be one that would be important to me. I jumped at the chance to read this book, and even so, it exceeded my expectations. It’s one thing for someone to inspire you, and this author is one person I watch and learn from. She’s the real deal, and I’ve learned to trust her guidance because I’ve seen how she truly lives her faith and always points people back to Him. She tries to never get in the way but to do her part and then get out of the way and let the Holy Spirit do the rest. But it goes deeper than that. This book woke up my spirit again. It reminded me why I love my God like I do. It reminded me of how the Spirit enlightens and informs and encourages and empowers. And it made me realize how much I was shortchanging myself by not embracing the Spirit in every step that I take. It showed me that I may be walking that road to Emmaus, just as the disciples in the book of Luke, and I may be talking about God, but so often I find myself oblivious to Jesus’ presence and forget that He is RIGHT HERE. RIGHT NOW. Here’s the promise: that God is near. And WITH GOD, all things are possible. The gift of the Spirit isn’t something for a select few—it’s a treasure that we can open again and again, every single day. It will shape every moment and change the way we live.

I have grown up in a church denomination that tends to not cover the Holy Spirit's roles as often as I prefer. Maybe you're curious to learn more about Him like me, but you're afraid to get started because you seek solid teaching. Suzie's book is firmly grounded in the Bible, and it takes us through the book of Acts. She speaks with kindness and sensitivity, and you'll feel like your girlfriend or favorite auntie is introducing you to her dear Counselor and Guide. The Spirit-Led Heart will leave you feeling refreshed and uplifted, and will give you scriptural insight you probably haven't encountered before. I love Suzie's vulnerability in this book. She is honest about her struggle to accept hard truths in scripture, like the account of Ananias and Sapphira. Suzie wrestles it out in front of us and shares helpful perspective. Suzie shares a beautiful story of how the Holy Spirit led her to India to minister to one special woman. The story was so poignant, I began to weep with joy, and I praised the Holy Spirit for His amazing, marvelous work. Her personal stories are delightful, touching, funny, and sweet. Suzie's warmth draws you in, and her solid faith challenges you to consider familiar truths in a new way. I am grateful for her gentle admonitions to step out in greater faith by depending on the Holy Spirit's leading. In the last chapter, Suzie takes you on a simple, down-to-earth journey through spiritual gifts. I appreciated her grounded approach and her faithfulness to scripture. The Spirit-Led Heart includes a chapter-by-chapter study guide, perfect for personal or group study. I am grateful to have received an advance review copy from Bethany House, and all opinions are my own.

Suzanne Eller author of a new book, The Spirit-Led Heart connects the heavenly dots of a relationship with the sometimes mysterious Holy Spirit. She gives examples of how the Holy Spirit functions in the life of a believer. She supports her statements of facts with evidence from God’s Holy Word, The Bible. In my opinion, this is an accurate, relevant book that will help anyone who is seeking to grow in Christlikeness. Suzanne Eller accurately describes how the Holy Spirit develops a relationship with us and then we do the will of God. She reassures the believer that a spirit-led woman trusts that God can use her, even though her knees knock. A spirit-led woman fights for others, because Jesus fought for her first. A spirit-led woman believes that God loves her, and freely loves him back. This book is a page turner, you just don’t want to stop reading until you reach the end. I read with an expectant heart one filled with the promised Holy Spirit. All we have to do is to take the steps led by the Holy Spirit, and wait to be filled with Joy that only God can give us. This is a must read book. I highly recommend this book.

This was a wonderful book with so much helpful information on the Holy Spirit. It really explained more of what the Holy Spirit does and who He is. I love the chapter on living in truth where Suzanne says "Lies lead to assumptions, which become beliefs, which produce actions (or inactions) that impact your life and your identity." That was such a powerful and true statement. At the beginning of each chapter there's a quote and at the end there's some Scripture, a Spirit-led promise, a Spirit-led invitation and a prayer. I loved the personal stories she told, especially about a trip she took to India and the woman she met there, which brought me to tears. There were a few more instances where something really hit me as I was reading and brought tears to my eyes. I also really felt for what Suzanne's going through now, with her mom and daughter both fighting cancer. The chapter about boldness really challenged me as I struggle with that. I loved how Suzanne admitted to her own struggles; it felt like she really understood and has been there and is still on the journey with us. There's also a great study guide at the end of the book. I highly recommend this book for women and I think men could also appreciate it. I received a copy of this book from the Bethany House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.

Recently, I encountered a situation with a friend that made me want to step in and fix everything that was wrong for her. This situation actually occurred while I was reading A Spirit-Led Heart. Rather than fretting for days over having the “right” words to say, I used what I was learning from Suzie to guide my approach. The results were peace and confidence in the Lord like I had never experienced before. Suzie showed me that God has only asked me to love people and pray for them; the rest is up to Him. When I embraced this mentality, I was empowered to pray for my friend, but release her situation to God. For the first time, I felt like I was partnering with God and He was the leader, rather than me operating in my own strength and wearing myself out. If you’ve never read a book by Suzie Eller before, you are in for a treat. Suzie’s books are like sitting down to coffee with a friend. She has an unconditional love for all people that will both encourage and empower you. So, go ahead, get this book and prepare for a whole lot of goodness!

Although aware of the importance of the Holy Spirit as part of the Trinity, I've tread lightly when discussing His role. He seems far more mysterious than the Father or the Son. The beauty of this book is in its easy-to-understand revelation of the power of the Holy Spirit working in our hearts. Each chapter illustrates, through story and biblical application, how a woman led by the Spirit is equipped to "live a life of love and faith without borders." Life application is found throughout the pages of this book, but especially so at each chapter end, where Suzie offers a specific Scripture, a promise offered by the Spirit, an invitation, and a prayer. Led by the Spirit, each of us can be empowered to live out the life God intends. Let Suzanne Eller in "The Spirit-Led Heart" help you do just that. Come to find out, He's not so mysterious after all!

Suzanne Eller has written a book about encountering the Holy Spirit in your life, titled The Spirit-Led Heart. I have to admit I don't always live my life relying on the Holy Spirit, but I desire to rely more and more, and I think as believer's many of us would say the same thing. So what should we do? Well, first we need to learn more about who and the purpose of the Holy Spirit. As I learn that I then learn to rely on the working of the Spirit in my life, more and more. That is what it takes, Suzanne Eller has written a book about encountering the Holy Spirit in your life, titled The Spirit-Led Heart. That is what it takes, trusting and obedience to the Word! Though not always easy. Suzanne shares about her experiences and what she learned, she also shared what happens when we focus on self and self-reliance, about how our natural reaction to fear is doubt, and what happens the longer we hold on to that fear and doubt will hinder us and cause us to run the other direction. So much truth there, as I have experienced that. This will cause our vision to be clouded. Who wants to live like that? Not me, so what do we do? In the book, Suzanne shares Scripture, Bible stories, and quotes by theologians to point us to what that entails. I like how she simplified the work of God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit: we were created and we are loved by our heavenly Father, we were rescued by our Savior, and we are empowered to live our faith through the Holy Spirit. "The Trinity reveals how God loves, seeks, and helps us in every part of our relationship with Him" I don't know about you, but I need that, because I know I can't do it on my own. But I have the Holy Spirit, the Helper to go to. Just as the Scripture says in John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. Suzanne shares stories that are real and relatable with struggles that many of us have dealt with, and points us to Scripture to provide us with truth and what the Word of God shows us. Some of these struggles she writes about and what the job of Holy Spirit is in these areas of: uncertainty, empowerment, living in truth, wandering, boldness, comfort, counseling, discernment and wisdom, conviction, and gifting. She also lays out some of the lies and assumptions we make, how that may make us feel like, but then how the truth in the Word can set you free and how we can overcome those struggles, lies, and assumptions we make. We need to be women that stop relying on self, trying to figure out things on our own, and trying to prove ourselves, and instead rely on the power the Holy Spirit can have in our lives, if we seek, trust and believe in our Lord. This book will help take you to the Word, share a promise's from God, learn more about the Holy Spirit, and invite you to practical application to grow you in faith. Another great thing about this book is the study questions at the back of the book for each chapter to take you deeper or to do with a group of ladies. Here are some of my highlights and there were many more that I did not include: It wasn't my job to make it all go away. I'm not big enough, and it's not what he was asking for. Instead of letting my emotions dictate, I asked the Holy Spirit for help. We become so busy trying to repair, foster, and manage what is beyond our ability that we live in defeat or continual frustration. But God's plan for that person does not hinge on your efforts. It's based on what has already been done on the cross. (Romans 8:11) The Holy Spirit is not a one-time encounter...A Spirit-led heart goes through a continual process of emptying and refilling. A Spirit-led empowered heart believes that His power is greater than a right-now situation and right-now feelings. Ask to be filled. Refuse to run on empty or in your own grit-your-teeth strength. Truth is a spiritual weapon. It's one of the arsenals in the battle against an enemy whose goal is to mire God's daughters in toothless lies. There are those moments when the inner voice of the Holy Spirit is confirming or comforting, but sometimes it's convicting. ~ this keeps us from wandering God leads us daily. We can plan, and we will, but if he's in it (the waiting times, the go times), we are exactly where we should be. If God is in this waiting phase of your life, then it's not going to fall apart if you release it to him. If it does, then it probably needed to be put down. A Spirit-led heart reframes the usual questions to find the God factor. When we do this, we find direction. Every part of our lives counts. If God is in it, there's something taking place that we might not understand until eternity. If a bold heart is a surrendered heart, you obey even when that makes you feel uncomfortable. By ourselves, we can do nothing. The Spirit of God helps and strengthens us, even when it seems there is no fight left in us. We think that we have to make grand gestures, and sometimes that's exactly where God might lead. For most of us, though it's the small things that make the biggest difference. Why we desperately need a Counselor. We all have gaps when it comes to faith. We all have gaps when it comes to God's plans for our church, our family, our marriage, our nation, our lives. We come to faith as babes, and we grow. At some point we transition from the bottle to spiritual meat. We practice our faith and we live it. In every part of this we need counsel - advice, guidance, insight. The Holy Spirit knows. There is no voice that should be louder than God's in my life. Discernment searches the truth. It knows the truth. It lives the truth. If I say I love something, but I'm not willing to give myself to it, it's still in the flirting stage. Deep, committed love is sacrificial. Conviction will always take us into deeper waters of faith. I can't imagine my life without faith in Christ. I can't imagine a life without the love of my heavenly Father. I love that the Holy Spirit can take heartfelt words and plant them like seeds in rugged soil.

For all of the many wonderful Christian books there are on the market today, few tackle the topic of the Holy Spirit -- and even fewer do it in a way that is conversational, full of warmth, and totally applicable to everyday life. Until now. Suzie Eller's book reminds us that we don't have to "go it alone" in this life - we have a Helper who is there to guide and help us every step of the way and an Advocate who fights our battles with and for us. Through sharing both insights from Scripture as well as personal stories, Suzie demonstrates how the Holy Spirit enlivens, inspires, and activates our everyday faith and partners with us to live courageously. This book is SUCH an incredible gift! I can't tell you how many times I've tried to do things in my own strength or I've run out far ahead of Him in my own determination to live my life MY way, and it never turns out well. Ultimately, I always end up quitting because I'm scared or I turn back because I feel ill-equipped or I drag my feet because I lose my inspiration or confidence. When it came right down to it, I felt alone. While I know what the Bible says about Christians receiving the Holy Spirit, I honestly didn't know what this meant on a practical, day-to-day level, and I figured the Holy Spirit was a topic that would one day be taught in church - but it really hasn't been...or at least not in a way that I understood on a gut level where I could live it out. Of course I want to live as a spirit-led woman, but I didn't really know what that meant or how to go about it until I read this heart-changing book. Suzie's book has really deepened my faith walk, because I now understand on a heart level who the Holy Spirit is and how a partnership helps me to push past fear, do things in His strength, and stay inspired along the way. The book begins with "A Spirit-Let Heart Manifesto" which is worth the price of the book alone, and each chapter contains a quality of a spirit-led heart (e.g. empowered, bold, advocated and comforted), and ends with a brief section of Scripture followed by "Your Spirit-Led Promise", "Your Spirit-Led Invitation", and "Prayer." What I love about how the book is set up is that in addition to the beautiful picture Suzie paints with her words and stories, the book is solidly based on Scripture and she invites you to begin living as a spirit-led child of Christ right away, so you are learning and doing from the very beginning! My favorite books combine teaching and inspiration with "doing", and this book fits right into that genre. I have been a fan of each of Suzie's books (The Mended Heart is an all-time favorite I've just about worn out), and her latest book is an incredible addition to any Christian library. Highly recommend! I am grateful to have received a copy of "The Spirit-Led Heart" Living a Life of Love and Faith without Borders" from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

This book will explain and share personal stories of how the Holy Spirit helps each believer deepen her faith, find courage, use her gifts, and handle uncertainty. It is well written, in a conversational, approachable style. Each chapter shares the Word, a Spirit Led Promise, A Spirit-Led Invitation, and a prayer that challenges or reminds your heart of all that God reveals through the Holy Spirit. This book is powerful, encouraging, thought provoking, and helpful. As I started to read, my life was completely upside down as I grieved a relationship that is failed and the uncertainty of determining what is best for a child we've parented and loved as our own for over four years. So my heart was broken and pouring out. I had given up the thought that I could fix anything- or rely on myself- but struggling with how to hear God's voice, trust Him fully, and stay focused on His providence, plan, and provision for the immediate needs and every step of the way. Throughout this 'primer' on the Holy Spirit and all of the aspects He brings to the believer, I was encouraged, challenged, and able to recognize that the Spirit is with me and God will reveal in His timing and through the Spirit all that I need to know and experience. So I found peace. I found comfort. I admit I've rested in revisiting head knowledge while taking what I know and learning to live out my faith and belief in my circumstances. Suzanne Eller's counsel is wise. Her concepts about truth vs a lie or an almost truth, are spot on, and her theology matches the Bible well. But it's her vulnerability and the fact that the book is written to ''us" or with the pronoun "we". She has included you in what she is learning to remember, to frame her beliefs, and to explore how to grow and surrender to our Great God, with the Helper directing our minds and choices. The book is one that I highlighted, starred, and marked up as I went. I love that there are group discussion questions at the back, and hope to re-read it with a group in the future. It's a book I can highly recommend.

It was so exciting to get Susanne Eller’s newest book in the mail the other week! Opening up “The Spirit-Led Heart” I was not disappointed! Once again Suzie comes approaching her teaching like a friend at your kitchen table, opening up the Word with you and sharing what she’s learned and how to apply it. It’s an approach with a lot of impact! There are ten chapters in this book and I read them for my morning devotionals over two weeks. The topics she covers begin at ‘Released from Uncertainty’ and travel to chapters on finding direction and listening to counsel, ending up at a final chapter on understanding the Spirit gives us each good gifts to use. Each chapter begins with a personal story from Suzie before she focuses in on the passage she wants to share and expands on the details of her thinking and helps to both ask and answer questions with solid biblical understanding. Each chapter ends with a summary of what was covered and a suggested prayer to help guide your conversations with the Lord. The chapters that had the most impact on me were the ones on truth, and on a Spirit-led heart being advocated and comforted. The chapter on truth deals with understanding what lies Satan tries to make us believe and how to counter the bombardment of lies from the broken world around us and reject them with the truth of God’s Word in us. The chapter on how the spirit advocates and comforts us was touching and empowering. Suzie shares about her daughter’s cancer diagnosis and how overwhelmed she was by it but how God’s power can be illuminated through our battles and the battles that we bring to God on behalf of those we love. It really encouraged me as I thought about people I love and health struggles of my own. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that is looking for some good encouragement or a good study for over the summer! The back of the book has small group study questions and would be perfect for anyone who wanted to connect with a few ladies they know! Final Rating: 5 I have been given a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review and opinion of the product.

This book had my attention at the introduction no less. That was a surprise to me. But the prayer at the beginning of the book before we ever even got into the chapters? Can I just say, "Wow"? I liked how she explained about people need to understand when they are in a confidence crisis when it comes to their faith. That phrase, "confidence crisis" stuck with me. "Faith isn't a doubt-free walk, but a dependent walk" what a great way to explain the feelings that people go through. I liked the examples of real, well I mean, currently living people. But I also liked the scripture about real people in the Bible. There was a good balance of both. It wasn't done in a heavy handed super scholarly way either. I enjoyed how each of the chapters ended. It ends with "The Word", "Your Spirit-Led Promise", "Spirit-Led Invitation" and a "Prayer". One of my favorite stories had to be when a man asked her why did she call herself a Christian? And her simple answer from the heart ended up being more powerful that she could have ever imagined. She only found out how powerful much, much later. She explains how she had felt somewhat guilty because she hadn't even used even one scripture in her answer. We do that guilt thing to ourselves not even realizing Holy Spirit has a better way that at times we don't understand. She gave some really good insight to those Holy Spirit nudges too. I think my last comments would be reading this book was liking sitting down with a friend. It definitely would have been a great book to be able to read when I was a very young Christian. And is still relevant to me as someone who has been a Christian for a while. I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House

Suzie Eller's new book, The Spirit-Led Heart, has profoundly impacted my Christian walk. My book is full of highlighter marks with favorite quotes. However, one of my favorite quotes from The Spirit-Led Heart is, “From the beginning, the mission of the Father was intimacy with his creation. He longs to talk to us. He longs to show us what to do, to unfold his plans in our lives. We are never so lost or uncertain that we cannot be found.” Another favorite is, “Believing is falling, getting back up, growing through our mistakes, reaching for mercy, communing with God, and running after his heart. Holy Spirit conviction helps us to live our faith one day at a time until it becomes the core of our spiritual (and earthly) identity.” Suzie also provides thought-provoking study guide questions for each chapter at the end of the book. Even though this is completely optional, it's like “icing on the cake” for me, as I hope to gather a few friends together for weekly Bible study time and use the provided study questions to go even deeper into the subject from each chapter! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more about the promise of the Holy Spirit and who desires a closer, deeper, more effective walk with God.

Although Suzie and I disagree theologically about the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the final chapter in this book sums up well why I recommend it: Suzie wants readers to know and love the Holy Spirit Himself instead of rushing right to the gifts. The sections range from basic Bible study from Acts to invitations to walk in the Spirit through actions, beliefs, or choices. Per her usual style, Eller shares personal stories warmly to offer illustrations of her subject matter. Likewise, she writes in a quotable, memorable fashion so that readers have plenty of wise takeaways. Quotes from The Spirit-Led Heart include: “Just because you believe a lie doesn’t make it true.”- Suzie Eller “Freedom! That’s where truth leads us.” – Suzie Eller “Direction isn’t about where we are; it’s who is on God’s heart as we go.”- Suzie Eller “His voice will never contradict Scripture, for the Holy Spirit always leads us closer to God and his will.”- Suzie Eller Readers who would like to learn more about the person of the Holy Spirit and His activity today will likely benefit from The Spirit-Led Heart. The book is much easier to read than a theology textbook, helps with application of lessons, and, overall, inspires greater worship of the third person of the Trinity. As always, I would simply encourage readers to check the teaching against God’s own Word, as we all ought to do anyway! (I received a copy of this book for the purpose of this review.)

The Holy Spirit is alive and as active today as when the apostles were preaching, teaching, healing, leading and facing persecution for their faith. Sometimes, we pray to God and we ask Jesus into our lives, but forget the trinity–the Holy Spirit–our Helper! Our lives today can be so chaotic and hectic with all the demands placed on us from family, work, volunteering, social demands, etc.. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and want to throw in the towel, but we have to remember that we can call out for Help! We don’t have to do this all on our own. God knows our weaknesses, and He understands that we need HIS presence to help us along. We just need to ask! This book also reveals other areas the Holy Spirit offers us help: •He empowers and guides us when we feel weak or lost. •He offers confidence and boldness to the meek and comfort to those who hurt. •He gives counsel and discernment in the face of uncertainty. •His gifts fill us when we are empty and multiply our meager offerings into something truly miraculous. Wow! My copy of this book is highlighted up, and is definitely one that would be well-worth a second read. God hasn’t left us alone–he has equipped you and I with all that we need to fulfill his plan and purpose. This book confirms that truth!

Easy to read, this book has a great balance of real-life stories, Bible teaching, and encouraging inspiration and wisdom for our lives. Some of Suzie's stories are poignant, and I felt a heart connection with her when I read the book. What I loved best about this book was that each chapter ends with a Scripture verse, a Spirit-Led promise we can hold on to, a Spirit-Led invitation to live it out, and a prayer to ask the Holy Spirit for help. These really helped me internalize this message of hope and help. If you come from a church background where the Holy Spirit is not emphasized, and you don’t know how comfortable you feel about the Holy Spirit, rest assured that this book will not “freak you out.” It is an encouraging look at the promise of the Holy Spirit and how He works in our lives.

I’m a big fan of Suzie’s writing and love her heart for not only sharing her God-given messages with us, but also setting the example by living them out. She is such an inspiration to me to live a faith without borders. When trials come (and they often do), I tend to rely on myself and make a plan to overcome them. It always fails. My favorite chapter is “We will never wander” – a spirit-led heart finds direction. Lord knows I find myself wandering through life, filled with worries, what-ifs, and quickly find myself going nowhere fast. One of my favorite quotes from this chapter is: Direction isn’t about where we are; it’s who is on God’s heart as we go. My heart needed to hear that as I’m always asking about His plan for me, or more often, “why is this taking so long?” Suzie encourages us to instead ask the Holy Spirit, “what are you trying to teach me?”…. “Reframing the questions repositions our hearts.” And it’s usually a lesson my heart needs about sharing my faith with someone he’s put in my path. There’s also a study guide included in the back, so grab your girlfriends together for a journey this summer on how to live out your own faith without borders.

She teaches that as we approach the Word with a fresh appetite to know the Truth, we will receive the Truth. I loved all aspects of this teaching book. Mostly, she reminds us that we are invited beyond the veil to ask for what we need and to enjoy God.
