Addison's mother is awful. I mean, look up terrible person in the dictionary and there would be her picture. I feel like much worse things should have happened to her. Cain gave me the rage through some of this. You know how these older men are. Broken by love, just interested in using women until the special one comes along. It doesn't matter how many times I read that kind of hero, I always hate them at first. All in all, a good steamy read and a good love story.

Stopped at 28% when heroine watches Hero (her professor) and OW getting it on in a parking lot so she decides to touch herself as she watches them 🙄. I can handle the Hero with OW since hes not in a relationship with heroine but her rubbing herself while watching them is huge turn-off. Its not erotic its stupid.

Okay, a point blank review. I did not like this novel at all. It was a rough read with parental abuse and control, a male main character who is nothing but a predator, and an innocent young girl. If I'd enjoyed this story, I could have had it read in a day. But the content was so hard to deal with, I had to work myself up to read it and it took me a week. Addison McBride is a college student who is trying to be a doctor and is short an English credit. She decides to take a creative writing class, thinking that it's going to be an easy, slack class. Cain Hill is her professor. The minute he lays eyes on her, he knows he's going to have her. I'm sure you can see where this is going. Addison is 21-years old. Cain's age is never revealed, but I pictured him being somewhere in his early thirties or so. Old enough to know better...and more experienced. Much more experienced. When he seduced her, I cringed. How would a 21-year old virgin know how to do this sort of thing? Maybe she would. I don't know. The scene was unbelievable to me. Her mother was the antagonist from hell. She wouldn't let Addison drive herself to school, insisting that she gets driven in a limo to show off their wealth. She tracked her every move by her cell phone. She snooped through Addison's computer and phone, kept track of her grades, and kept Addison on a curfew. What is this? Middle School? High School? Certainly not college. This is when I started questioning everything and drew this conclusion: Just because your birth certificate says you are 21 physically does not mean you are 21 mentally. I don't think Addison was even remotely mature enough to make the decision to have sex with Cain and that, my friends, makes him a predator. He should have been able to tell by the way she dressed and the way she wore her hair that she was not the average 21 year old girl. She got good grades, applied to Harvard, but school was all she knew. Cain wanted to teach her all right and it sure wasn't Creative Writing. The pretense of teaching her and her begging him to teach her was so not cool. It was almost like she was going to "f" her way to an A. The closing scene with Addison and her mother was so unbelievable. I'm sorry, but I lived with a control freak for many years and it wasn't nearly as bad as what Addison's mother was like. They don't just lie down and suddenly go with the flow. Trust me. They fight to keep control, especially when they're as strong as her mother was. I don't like to give bad reviews. I know how painful they can be. But I couldn't sugarcoat this. The characters are not well-developed, the plot is predictable, and some scenes were unbelievable. I neither saw nor felt any sort of chemistry (certainly not love) between Addison and Cain. On the plus side, the writing was actually pretty good. There was some weird comma usage, but it wasn't that big of a deal. *I don't know the author, but I want to tell her something. You can't write for everybody. Just because I didn't like it doesn't mean someone else won't think it's great. Reviews are just opinions. This was nothing personal. Good luck in the future.

Sorry but this is far from sexy and what woman in their right mind sees that and thinks “Mmm... yeah. I want to get me some of that!” No one with any self respect that’s for sure. On to another part of the story, the h’s Mom beats her, controls her and everyone around her. She has force fed the idea of the h being a doctor since she was a small child and is doing everything in her power to make this happen. If the h doesn’t do something she likes, then the h gets knocked around. So the ending doesn’t ring true how quickly she supposedly turns herself around when the H points out that he knows what she has been doing to the h. There are a few spelling errors in the book but not a significant amount. This author has great potential but having the H/h banging someone else in the books will lose readers.

While in the cafeteria with a friend, a voice draws her uot of that shell. He is very hot, but she can't think of that. No, if mother gets angry there will be all sorts of prices to pay. To her surprise that same voice is now in front of the room teaching her. She took this writing class by choice, but the way she tells her mother it is a class required of her. He doesn't want to teach, he wants to write and a be a big success. Doctor Cain Hill had the hunger along with that vision, but back in those days he had a muse to keep his writing going. She decided that she didn't want him anymore, and since then Cain isn't writing. Now having to teach to make ends meet, he is conflicted. He decides to teach this class in a bit of a different way, one that everyone wins. The thing of it is he is so drawn to Addison, and she is off limits. Addison comes to class and does her best, which isn't great but it is improving. She is very interested in Cain. That feeling is completely mutual. Then one day while giving into the chemistry a bit, he notices make up trying to cover a busted lip. He doesn't want to care but he finds that he is a little too much for his liking. But the wheels of fate have started turning, and they progress. Both Addison and Cain are trying not to let feelings enter the picture, but now there is a bruise on Addison's face and a burn on her arm. Enough is enough. At first he thinks boyfriend or something. A surprise meeting with Addison's mom basically telling Cain to pass her daughter or there will be consequences. Cain agrees to meet with Addison on a specific weekend. Now things are totally heated up and on fire. No turning back now. A small knock on his door later one night, she is without a coat, blood is running from her nose, and it is more than he can allow to happen. He realizes and Addison confirms the secret of who is doing this. He asks her to stay with him, she leaves. Just to pour salt in that wound he is called into a meeting between his boss and Addison's mom. The secret he is holding is blurted out by mom, and there is a lot that happens and a surprise to how that meeting ends. This all takes place just after Addison runs away. She isn't going to hide how she feels, she leaves her mom's house and rule. There is a snag with that involving an arrest. Addison is leaving that horrible place but with her mom, and there is a lot that comes out when they are both sitting in the car together. Her mom even backs off, and allows Cain and Addison to move forward together. He starts writing again, once he has his muse in his life, and now he is moving forward, she happens to be part of that moving forward, and there is a happy surprise to start their happy ending too.

A man who has been scorned by his first love and doesn't believe in true love. A man who has lost his heart and his ability to write another chapter let alone the rest of his book. And of course there is sweet and studious Addison. A senior in college who is pre-med. A woman who is destined to be a surgeon no matter what. And a woman who's mother is mentally and physically abusive. A woman who's mother controls her life. A woman who's mother chose her future career. Addison is a quiet but quite stunning woman who changes with each interaction with Dr. Cain. Will things work out for Dr. Cain Hill and Addison? Will Addison's mother back off and let Addison live her own life? Will Dr. Hill find his muse and complete his novel? Absolutely read this novel and fins the answers to these questions and more. And the sexy scenes are just that- SEXY!! And a bit steamy too!! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

2 stars I almost gave this book one star. Cain is a jerk and is needlessly hateful. He does stop, but still. Addison's reactions to his horribleness are very unrealistic. She doesn't seem all that upset. It makes 0 sense. It also makes no sense for there to be outside the relationship sex in a romance book, especially since Cain and Addison had already met. She watched him with someone else and still ended up with him. Um...no. I almost stopped reading the book right then. The ending was really 2 stars I almost gave this book one star. Pressing Submit on the form should have been a relief, but she was somehow more nervous than she had imagined, since this was a lifelong dream to become a doctor. It was her dream, wasn’t it? Her mother had pushed her to take many additional high level courses to make sure she was ready to uphold the illustrious McBride reputation. Her mother firmly believed wealth should be flaunted. She also had the annoying habit of totally running her daughter’s life, even having the staff treat her like an incompetent little girl. Addison attended her Creative Writing class with Dr. Hill, who was very attractive. She was hoping this would fulfill her English requirement and be an easy “A”. Instead, on her first attempt at writing a poem, he embarrassed her and gave her a 74. She was so ashamed and her mother would be sure to punish her. She met her friend, Zoe, at an upscale bar to commiserate, but had to be home at 10:00 and without drinking. But as she crossed the dark parking lot, she observed two people. She ducked down between cars and watched – which made her late getting home. Her mother was waiting, threw her own wine glass, and slapped Addison across the face. How would Addison react to this? Cower and comply? Or rebel in some way? Would her professor take advantage of her confusion? Or would both of them end up saving the other? One of the things I did not like was that Cain had a one-track mind about wanting Addison, mentally blaming her for deliberately enticing him (which she wasn’t). It was scary that his lack of personal self-control could ruin her academic track record and shake her confidence! On the other hand, getting out of her mother’s clutches just might be worth it so that she had a chance to truly grow up into the woman she needs to be. Her mother was so controlling and Addison was under a great deal of pressure – from both her mother and her teacher. This is well written, but it is not light reading. If you have triggers, you might want to think about whether you are comfortable with this. I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my honest review!

This is the kind of book I wanted and needed. I loved the characters and the storyline, and it was just absolutely freaking fantastic! I think the writing for this book is so superior to so many other writers in this particular genre that I have read. I would personally classify this as both romance and erotica under the umbrella genre of New Adult. I have read my fair share of erotica, and the writing of this book just absolutely blew all other books out of the water for me. It is such an addicting writing style. I just could not stop reading. I just am obsessed with Haley Pierce's writing style, and I just want to read more works by her. I also really enjoyed the romance. It did not seem like instalove at all. I really enjoyed seeing their unconventional relationship expand and grow over the course of the novel. Usually, you will see a relationship begin with like dating and such and end with sex while this really reversed that. It was very much about the sexual attraction between these two and then it developed into a real relationship. It was so beautiful to read about, and I just loved it so much. I think the abuse was super interesting to read about. This is a topic that some writers tend to shy away from, but Haley definitely did not do that. I think she really represented it well. It was also really interesting to see Cain's perspective on this because I just kept waiting for it to finally click in his brain that she doesn't have an abusive boyfriend. It is not who you would normally expect it to be. I liked seeing the process of him finally figuring it out and how angry he was at the person who was abusing her (that is a major spoiler, so I am definitely not revealing that). I just really liked the way it was presented in the novel, even if I do think that the abuser had a rapid evolution in her character at the end of the novel. I also just really loved the way writing was presented in this novel. I loved seeing Cain explaining it and just seeing how passionate he was about the written word. It was just so amazing and inspiring to see, and it actually inspired me even more because I am also a writer who appreciates the written word and just the writing process. It was just an aspect I loved seeing, and it really added to the story, in my opinion. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I loved the writing, the complex and intricate storyline, the characters, and just everything about it. The writing was absolutely stunning and addicting as well, and I just really loved this book. I am super excited to read more works by Haley Pierce, and I highly recommend you all pick this book up because it was absolutely bloody fantastic! 12/23/2017 This was just as great the second time around as the first. I cannot stop thinking about this amazing story. It is just sticking me so I just had to reread it. Its still fabulous. Please read it! Its just fabulous.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is an exceptionally well written story that is not a 'light and fluffy' piece to read. There is actually a very dark side in this story about a young woman, Addison, who is 21 and at college doing pre-med because her controlling and abusive mother, Mrs McBride, says so. Addison is from a wealthy family and so controlled that at 21 years old she is still taken and collected form college! has a curfew of 10 pm which many high schools don't, but should, have. She takes a short English course on creative writing for herself and this is where she meets Dr Cain Hill, her professor who really wants to go back to full time writing but he hasn't met his inspiration till he sees Addison. Their love affair could be seen as so taboo but, in actual fact, he is the catalyst to helping her escape from her mother's clutches. Passionate scenes are very hot but sensitively written and add to the full experience of Addison breaking away from the controlling behaviour and starting to live her life. I found this a book that I couldn't put down and I will be looking forward to reading more of her stories in the future. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED.

Her books fall into series – SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE (three volumes) and UNSPOILED series, of which this is Book 1. She has also penned JUST FAKE IT, OUR LITTLE SECRET, and TRY AGAIN. Haley has a strong point in character development: her characters are well described, not just tropes but real people, and that is what makes her stories credible. She alternates the main characters – Cain (aptly named!) the frustrated writer with writer’s block who turns to being an English professor, and Addison, an innocent student who as a senior at Marysville University is indecisive about proceeding to medical school. Addison decides to venture into creative writing and of course Addison is the instructor. Their initial meeting is very well staged! Instant chemistry develops despite the forbidden teacher/student rule, and the rest of the romance is better if not disclosed. The book moves quickly – an easy one evening read - and is filled with contemporary issues (overbearing successful mother, fluff headed best friends, computer dominance, etc) and items that add to the flavor of the author’s writing skills. This is a sound little novel and a solid beginning for a series of romance types.

McBride and Hill So I can say the romance between Hill and McBride is fast developing. And I loved reading every minute of it. I was very upset to see how controlling Addison’s mother was. And the fact that he didn’t really want to teach made me feel better about the whole thing. I know that is perverse and it is wrong but everyone is an adult at this stage in the game so I don’t mind it. But I do get why it is a rule. But if you can be objective as Cain was then to me your good. She was taboo to him though everything he shouldn’t any but he wanted anyway. At least he wasn’t married because that tends be a thing in the Professor student dynamic. The only thing I had a serious problem with was skating over the fact the Addison’s mother was physically abusing her. She should have had charges pressed against not have Addison and her mother hug out in the end. Because despite everything she had no right to do that. People have been arrested for less.

But no, I kept going and then I regretted it because you know what happened to her mother who abused her not just physically but emotionally and mentally? The same mother who burned her with a curling iron? NOTHING not a damn thing happened to her mother other than that Addison forgave her!!! And Addison was going to apologize to her mom for running away when she has every reason to. So yeah I really should have stopped after the first warning because I feel like my precious book reading time has been wasted. The writing was good which is why I gave it two stars but the story was not so I won’t be reading the next one.

As a result of this treatment he developed a lack of confidence and subsequently writers block. As Cain and Addison develop their relationship they somehow redeem each other. Cain shows Addison what it feels like to be cared for and free to express herself. Addison gives Cain the affirmation to write again. It is wonderful to read about the time they spend together knowing how dangerous it is. He could lose his job and his career as a teacher and she, well God only knows what she would suffer at the hands of her mother. But they take the risk anyway. An excellent read. I could not put it down and had to finish it in one night. I highly recommend this book. I voluntarily received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book from Booksprout.

But little does anyone know that her life is far from normal. There is so much hidden behind closed doors. She is working her butt off to get into Medical school. I absolutely loved the chemistry between Addison and Mr.Hill. It was off the charts maybe because it shouldnt be there . But none the less it was amazing to read about. I enjoyed reading this book. As it was the first one that i have had the chance to read by this author. I will be reading more. Very well written and enjoyable

3.5 stars to Unlearned by Haley Pierce Pretty sure this is my first book from this author and I enjoyed it . It was a sexy, short read . Addison is in her last year of college about to apply to med school when she decides to take a creative writing class much to her mothers displeasure. Cain is a writer who has hit a block that he cant seem to get passed . He has ran out of his advance money for his book so he takes a professor job . This is where he meets Addison . Great story line, great characters, the taboo relationship, and virgin romance but it fell flat somewhere for me . I just did not get the feels from it , however I would still say it is worth reading .

The Story Falls Flat--Possible Spoilers If physical abuse is a trigger for you, you may not want to read this one. It isn't completely full of it, but there is some. Dr. Cain Hill is something of an arrogant ass. Even so, I don't really dislike him. Addison McBride is likable enough. A senior pre-med student being almost ruthlessly pushed and controlled by her mother. No "almost" to it...her mother gets angry, gets drunk and physically abuses Addison. I was wondering how Cain and Addison were going to get busted. The way it came about was totally unbelievable. It would've been better if someone had walked in on them. The way it played out made no sense. It also made no sense that a simple threat by Cain to reveal her abuse would send Addison's mother cowering. Really? He didn't have any proof...And she simply caves and loosens her grip on Addison...after controlling every aspect of her life for 21 years? Nope. Not believable. I like Addison. I end up liking Cain. Kind of makes me wish I'd had such "educational offerings" as an undergrad. ;)

Unlearned by Haley Pierce ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Addison McBride is completely ruled by her overprotective and domineering mother. She's 21, but that doesn't seem to matter. Taking a class her mother deemed a waste of time, she meets Dr. Cain Hill, instructor of Creative Writing 101. After texting and messaging, they are both more than eager to meet up outside of the confines of the classroom and explore one another. Can she and Cain ever have a relationship? Oooo, I just burned with hatred for Mrs. McBride! But I also burned with excitation where Cain and Addison were concerned! So hot! Haley Pierce sure can write an emotional romance! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Lots of bumps in the road, a abusive mother who's not affraid to punch Addison if she's acting "wrong" But still Addison learns to be free. It’s well written, storyline flows really nicely, it’s still a fast paced and exciting read!

But is that what she really wants? This is a great read, it has great character chemistry, a good story line with some angst, some real life scenarios, it will have you hooked. I’m not gonna say much, because this is a book that you really need to read and appreciate without knowing much. Discovering it yourself as you read! Do yourself a favor and read it, you won’t regret it. I give it 5 Stars!

He offers to give her lessons in "freeing herself". Things go crazy with her mom, she is leaving physical marks on her and it is ticking Cain off. Addison is trying to get free, how can she escape. Can their relationship survive and develop into something more? I hope you find the story as entertaining as I did.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is the ultimate taboo, forbidden love story—Dr. Cain Hill the professor and Addison McBride the student. Haley Pierce presents one of the most unseemly “potential love” stories, and slowly takes you through so many heart wrenching emotions. The chemistry and passion that Cain and Addison have for each other is explosive, and the sex is off-the-chart hot! The scenes are well written, fast-paced and flow smoothly from one scene to the next with lots of romance while the strong charismatic characters draw readers in and refuse to let go. A Tantalizing, Gut-wrenchingly Fabulous Book When Addison McBride meets Dr. Cain Hill, her professor for a Creative Writing 101 class that she needs to graduate and attend medical school, she is immediately drawn to him just as he is to her.
