These anthologies hold superb stories that should have the recognition. The stories I’ve read so far in each anthology are always quite steamy however Enchanted is quite vanilla. It still has that wow factor but with much less heat. However, it holds a genre that I absolutely love and that’s paranormal. I adore it, it makes me happy. So this combination, although tame, made me very excited indeed and boy I was not disappointed. The first thing that struck me with each story is that they’re all quite quirky, reminiscent of indie music in the fact that they have their own feel and individuality. They’re like hidden gems just waiting to be found. I loved that it made me feel like this. I didn’t love all of them but they certainly kept me entertained. One of the books however, ended on a cliffhanger and I was so mad - because I had gotten so engrossed in it - that I nearly threw my kindle across the room. Then I went to see if I could purchase the whole book, only to find that it’s not even out yet, well you can imagine how bereft I was. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for it in the future. Overall though, I absolutely loved it, again. Time and time again I’m shocked by how easily I fall into them. Cannot wait for more.

First of all, there's only one way to make me go grabby-hands on a collection, and that's to feature three of my absolute favorite authors. I have loved everything I've ever read by Wendy Sparrow, Em Shotwell, and Sara Dobie Bauer in the past... and this is no exception. All three are "romance" (I'm using the term in quotes and will explain later), with an element of magic coursing throughout, which is the tie-in these three novellas had to warrant being marketed together. All three are "romance" (I'm using the term in quotes and will explain later), with an element of magic coursing throughout, which is the tie-in these three novellas had to warrant being marketed together. Personally, these three were so far removed from each other, it might have worked better to have a stronger tie-in, such as, maybe the same type of magic or something. But that's a minor gripe in the grand scheme of things. The reason I use "romance" in quotes is because these aren't all romance stories, as they don't all follow the romance genre rules. But I mention it just to throw it out there that, if you're expecting three HEA/HFNs, you're not going to get those here. (BUT... I'm not going to tell you which one(s) don't have the HEA/HFN... you'll have to read it yourself to find that out.) Now, that harping aside... all three are well-written, and are true to the style I've come to expect from these authors. All three authors are masters of their craft, particularly when it comes to world building and scene building. I've said it before, I'll say it again... world building is Em's super-hero power. But the other ladies aren't far behind. Each author brings a little something different, but all of them bring something magical, and I can't wait to dive into the next one.

Magic Spark is a trio of magic filled stories. When Demigods Court Death is the first in the book. It was an enjoyable read that had characters you wanted to know more on how it goes for them. You have the demigod of death being courted by the demigod of fertility. Only death doesn’t know who she is, just figured she has bad luck. It made me giggle and kept me engaged the entire time. These Roots Run Deep contained so many fun elements of magic. It has three sisters who know they are witches and Magic Spark is a trio of magic filled stories. These Roots Run Deep contained so many fun elements of magic. It has three sisters who know they are witches and a cranky old house that does what it wants when it wants and isn’t afraid to let one of them know when it isn’t happy with them. Besides calming the house the sisters pull together and cast a spell to help the oldest Cheyanne keep her cheating fiancé with her forever. But their magic is cursed and there are consequences to be had when you preform it. We follow Cheyanne as she comes off as the crazy fiancé, well maybe she is, as she pulls out no stops to save her relationship. The ending oh the ending was brilliant!!! I have read other stories by Em and this was different from the rest but I highly enjoyed it! Destiny’s Dark Light: part 1 is about Cyan a witch who has not gathered her powers yet and is waiting for her Dofheicthe or invisible man, while waiting for war as told in the book of shadows. We get to watch her find Liam only to find that he had a girlfriend that he is very in love with where they meet is a mass tragic scene caused by another witch. We get to watch them become friends and her get her powers that she does not yet understand. There are fun characters, moments to make you giggle, moments that make you sad and the only down fall is it leaves off with a HUGE cliff hanger!!! All in all these were an excellent quick read, and I highly suggest them for anybody who loves short stories and magic! With all short stories it feels like they are smooshed together so fast and you want more but that’s the thing they are short stories which is self explanatory. *** I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and freely given.

I highly recommend this book, I know you will want to see what happens to these three women!

Three authors, three very different stories about love sprinkled with magic. All are good reading. I especially liked Em Shotwell's “These Roots Run Deep” which was about one of three sisters. But the magic had to be done in threes, so it was useless without the other two. I loved the idea of a house that was heartbroken from the owner's death and the way the girls and house dealt with each other. This was good reading. So my thoughts: Destiny’s Dark Light (Part One) - First of all, that cliffhanger ending! (cries) But at least part two comes out next month so I don’t have to wait long. I loved this story. It was very immersive. It really makes me miss writing about witches. Like so freaking much. All the characters are fabulous. The description is fantastic. The kind that makes me want to visit this world asap and hang out at Sea Books and walk down the streets. These Roots Run Deep - I This was good reading. These Roots Run Deep - I wasn’t sure about this story at first - the main character was wicked crazed. But I had an absolute blast reading this, and the ending is EVERYTHING! This anthology being romancey had me wondering how the story would end. That said, this was unexpected in a great way, and I just loved everything about the last several pages. When Demigods Court - Honestly, I didn’t read all of this one. It’s probably just a matter of personal preference. I really liked the other aspects of the story, and the descriptions were everything I liked in description - rich to the point I could smell the flowers. I just don’t like super self-conscious characters. I liked the guy’s point of view, he was very likable. I just couldn’t be in the other character’s head anymore. She had low self-esteem to the point it was making me miserable along with her. I skipped the last third and read the last couple pages to see how it ended. Maybe if I was in a different mood when I read it I would have liked it more.

Magic Spark (Enchanted Book 1) Four Stars Magic Spark is the first trio of trilogies by three authors, Sara Dobie Bauer, Em Shotwell, Wendy Sparrow. This first set of stories are amazing paranormal romances. I loved all three stories, they flowed smoothly and the characters we’re engaging. Although, each author has a different writing style the stories work well together. When Demigods Court Death by Wendy Sparrow is about when a woman gets a new neighbor and magic starts, spirits are uplifted. What could go wrong? Three great stories, one wonderful book. This is a must read. I can’t wait till the next installment ones out.

When Demigods Court Death - by Wendy Sparrow I knew I was going to enjoy this story from the very first page... "It'd been over two weeks since she'd Googled her symptoms and come up with everything from iron deficiency to the plague. She might not die." Aster and Chandra are the classic ying to the other's yang. A tale of discovery and understanding because "Death always gets her man." These Roots Run Deep by EM Shotwell - A quick, enjoyable read about "New Orleans' own effing Barbie and Ken." Part one = to be continued and I am very patiently waiting for volume two!!! All of these stories (please let it be) seem like they will be expanded upon on future volumes. I enjoyed each story on its own and as part of the magical collection.

My overview : On the first short story. I found it captivating, its was weird at first since its fiction. I did not expect what i was reading. But, i really liked it for the story to be only 57 pages long. But, we end up understanding who they are and where they come from. I would give it 4 /5 stars Second short story : The 2nd one was odd, i wasn't sure where the story was going. With witches, magic , and boy trouble. You end up knowing more about the main characters and what their life was before this story started But at the end it was good , i would give this story 2.5/5 stars 3rd short story: I am in love with this story , it was so good, i wish it would be a longer book so i can enjoy it a lot more. In 50 page i did fall in love with the characters. You learn a lot about their family and what their past was like before getting to the present. I would give this story 5/5 stars Quotes : 1st story : She rolled her eyes. '' Yeah, but that hasn't helped me. I swear, Everything i touch... dies. 2nd story :I guess we should have known that the house would be as upset as we were over granny's death. We shouldn't have left it neglected for so long. 3rd story :The painting was of him again. Cyan had known his face since infancy, the her aunt said she would one day love. Coming out January 9, 2018. enjoy , Jozay's Bookshelf.

The world Ms. Sparrow has created could be expanded and explored in so many more ways this was the perfect teaser to wet a readers appetite for more. I for one and hoping for more and will keep an eye on this author. EM Shotwell pulled off a tricky story ideal in These Roots Run Deep. I normally struggle to get into stories with unsympathetic protagonists, and stories with unfaithfulness/cheating, but Shotwell did a spectacular job of making me care just enough to stay invested in her tale. There were a few typos that stopped me, but this was an ARC copy. The other March sisters stole a bit of the limelight only because they were more sympathetic, but it would be an easy stepping stone for Ms. Shotwell to expand this unique and fun magical world. Although, my own personal hang up it was an interesting and satisfactory read. Destiny’s Dark Light – is a cliffhanger prologue-type teaser for (I believe) a full length book that is yet to come. *fingers crossed anyway* The characters were solid, believable, and relatable. The world she’s created is colorful, mysterious, unique, and magic-filled. I can’t wait for more! And even though I was a bit irked that this was a “To be continued…” ending, I’m hooked and will be really looking forward to what comes next in this world and from the author. Overall these stories were all “magic” centric but eclectic in their voice and ascetic. This was a fun read and yet another well put together anthology by Pen and Kink. I received an ARC ebook version of this anthology in exchange for an honest review.

This was a good set of books. The first one is about demigods. They have to find their match or their power will consume them spontaneous combustion style. I actually want more of this story and wouldn't mind reading Corbin's book. The 2nd story is crazy. A witch with a cheating fiance. She definitely uses her powers for the wrong reason but she gets the wood she wants. Haha! The 3rd story was unlike any I'd read before. Still good, but in a different way. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and I'm so glad I got the opportunity to do so. Three shorter stories in book 1 of the Enchanted series. All were quick easy reads that contain the element of magic and romance. I am not familiar with any of the three authors, Sara Dobie Bauer, Em Shotwell , and Wendy Sparrow. All three of the stories have witches and the fight of good vs. evil.

I am quite familiar with Ms. Sparrow and Ms. Dobie Bauer’s work and love everything of theirs that I have read. Ms. Shotwell is a ‘new-to-me’ author, but after reading her contribution to this book, I will definitely be reading more of her work. I was excited to find that she has several books published for me to dive into. These three authors have all got a different style, which gives each of their stories its own tone, mood, feel and individuality. All the stories are beautifully written and each one is completely captivating, in its own right. The stories are all different, but each one focuses on the same theme and inspiration; which is ‘magic and romance’. So, if you really enjoy fantasy, suspense, magic, romance, and a great story- then this is definitely the book for you! When Demigods Court Death By: Wendy Sparrow. This story is wonderfully detailed, beautifully written, with an interesting and absorbing plot. It had a lot of funny quips and banter- which made it a very light-hearted and fun read; even with the Demigoddess of death as on of the main character. Chandra is a website designer who works from home, mostly. She’s a little subdued, insecure and self-conscious – but very sweet. She has no idea of what she really is or what she’s capable of. Her naivety and kindness made her an easy target and has led to her being used and taken advantage of. This has left her with a distrust of people, especially men. Her life is dull, grey, boring, and full of maladies. Until he moves in next door. Aster is not only a very successful doctor with a thriving practice, he’s also a demigod- the demigod of fertility to be exact. He has been searching for his ‘match’ for quite some time and thinks he may have found her in his quiet, but beautiful neighbour. He knows what she really is, and this could be such a beneficial relationship for them both- but first he needs to convince her, and then get her to trust him. But, there is more to this situation as the story unravels and a lot riding on him making it work. No one said a demigod courting death would be easy. A really enjoyable read! These Roots Run Deep By: Em Shotwell. I wasn’t sure what to make of this story to begin with, but as the plot unfolded I found myself being drawn into the story, trying to figure out where the author was taking us and what was going to happen. I was so immersed in the story- the author had me guessing the whole way. There were definitely some surprising developments in this clever tale. The author made this a fun read, with a bit of a theatrical ‘production’ feel to the story- which gave it a lot of added interest. Cheyanne is a perky, self-centred and somewhat neurotic television weather girl. She has just discovered that her fiancé had been cheating on her- which sets her on a quest full of obsession, spells, magic, and quite a bit of mayhem. What ensues is a surprisingly good story that kept me engrossed the entire way through. Ms. Shotwell filled her story with beautifully detailed and descriptive scenes, wonderfully quirky and complex characters- interesting and unpredictable situations-as well as a whole lot of fun. I look forward to reading more Of Ms. Shotwell’s work! Destiny’s Dark Light By: Sara Dobie Bauer. Wow! I really loved this story! I was charmed by it the whole way through. This is a fantastic, spellbinding fantasy- full of action, suspense, drama, danger, magic, spells, chemistry, and tension. I loved everything about this vividly descriptive story. The scene setting was masterful, the characters were fully developed and endearing, and the story was breathtaking! I devoured every word. It does end in a cliff-hanger (noooooo) and the story looks set to continue in the next instalment of the Enchanted Trilogy. I can’t wait to get my hand on Book two when it releases next month (Feb 2018). Cyan Burroughs has a destiny that has been prophesied since before she was born. She comes from a long line on powerful witches, but is yet to come into her own power. The prophecy tells of a war, good versus evil, and the important part that Cyan will play in these events. She spends her time focused on learning the craft, while awaiting her destiny. An unexpected and dangerous development turns her world upside down, bringing her face to face with her destiny. Only he doesn’t know it yet. In fact, he already has a girlfriend. So, what does fate have in store for them? What of the impending war? With danger close by, things are about to get very interesting! Such a fantastic story, and I am excited to continue it and discover what happens? This is set to be a riveting series! …………………………………………. So, as you can see by the small snippets I have given of the brilliant stories contained in this book- it is well worth the read. I am sure you are going to love it just as much as I did. I really can’t wait for book two now! Thank you to Ms. Sparrow, Ms. Shotwell and Ms. Dobie Bauer!!!

Magic Spark is a three story anthology by Sara Dobie Bauer, Em Shotwell, and Wendy Sparrow. All three stories had me captured from start to finish, leaving me pining for more. Now with every anthology that I read I don't like to pick favourites, but I will say that I enjoyed the first story and the last story, more then I did the middle. Now with every anthology that I read I don't like to pick favourites, but I will say that I enjoyed the first story and the last story, more then I did the middle. Not that it wasn't as good as the other two but, but I felt like it wasn’t as developed. This applies to not only to the characters but to the plot. Now don't get me wrong, the middle story was actually very intriguing, I could tell that the main character was very well thought out and she did have a pretty tragic background. What threw me was the actual lack of build up and lack of progression for her character. The other problem I had with it, was that at the climax just sort of, I don't know, fizzled out you could say. I was little confused and it felt rushed, leaving me unsatisfied and unhappy with it. The first story was fun. It had that cheesy romance feel that I'm a sucker for, but it had a supernatural element to it, that brought more than just a romcom. What I especially loved was how the author twisted the mythology around gods and demigods; making it her own. I really loved how they needed to balance each other out, power wise. There are a couple other things that are going on in the background of the story and it's vague enough where you know that the next book is going to be just as good but, more of a continuation than a sequel. I really enjoyed both main characters. I loved their personalities, I loved the connection they had with each other and, I loved how even though they didn't know each other for long, they manage to grow tremendously in that short time. The last story, I didn't think I was going to like it, but in a very weird twisted turn; I actually became hooked. There is this innocence to it with a sense of danger, that makes you root for our main character. There is a bit of a weird love triangle that I don't really know if it’s a love triangle, I can't tell you why because it will ruin a major plot point, so I'll just leave it at that. What I am gonna tell you, is that this story ends in a big cliffhanger. My heart stopped and I was so disappointed that there were no more pages left in the book, and I know I’m going to be in agony waiting for this next three-part anthology to come out. Because all the stories have a sequel that are going to come out in the next collection. My overall thoughts, this was probably one of the better anthologies I have read. Every story was professionally done, The writing was smooth and easy to understand, plots stayed on point, they were focussed and, they managed to give you a decent background on the magical worlds, that each story was set in, without overwhelming your senses. What I really loved was that each story was very different from one another. There was no real overlap in the themes so it was easy to keep them separate in my mind. I had no trouble distinguishing one story from the next, once I had finished reading. Making this collection feel more solid as a book, then other anthologies. Take my high recommendation that you need to pick up this collection of outstanding stories. I can't express enough how much I was immersed in this book. To give you an idea how much I love this I'm gonna tell you my first thoughts when I finished reading. ‘ this book went from super fun to crazy, to down right explosive’ Happy Reading -E.A. Walsh

The novel was published January 9, 2018, by Pen and Kink Publishing and consists of 216 pages. The first focused on a developing love between two demigods Chandra and Aster. The short story follows them as they begin to embrace who they are and their part in each other's life. The story was easy to follow, and the characters were easy to fall in love with. Being so short it did not give much into their surrounding environment but focused more on the living quarters of the two main characters and the occasional date. Each character also had their own power which made life interesting for them as they learned to control them. In the second story, we follow Cheyanne Murphy as she discovers that her fiance Brett is cheating on her. She is torn to pieces and decides to use magic to devise a way to keep him from leaving and cheating again. The loss of her grandmother is recent, and she uses her grandmother's book of shadows to discover a means of saving her love while pulling her two sisters into the scheme as well. Can the stop him from leaving but also not be affected by the family curse in the process? The third story and my favorite one follows Cyan Burroughs and Liam Cody as Cyan discovers her destiny in the arrival of her true love and Liam’s life changes forever. Cyan is prepared to battle a significant war between light and dark witches while Liam finds an unusual attraction to Cyan. With Liam’s first love being in a coma can the two come together to fulfill the prophecy to defeat the dark witches? I could not put these short stories down and breezed through them. The third one left me wanting more, and I can’t wait to snag the second part to continue following Liam and Cyan. There were very few errors in these stories which made it even easier to focus on what was happening in each. I loved each one and got lost in the plot of each. The characters were also put together well and grew as the story progressed. This compilation of short stories is definitely a 5-star book, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in romance, magic, demigods, and short stories.

Aster trying to explain to Chandra exactly who she was and why they needed each other was awesome. The dialogue between the two had me laughing out loud so many times. I think that her killing all his plants while he was gone was the funniest part...Loved it and I hope there's more to come, maybe a story involving his cousin who is trying to find his match before it's too late? These Roots Run Deep by Em Shotwell This was my first read by this author and it was a fun kind of story, a bit off the wall but fun just the same. Cheyanne was doing well in life, she had a great job as a weather girl and even had her pictures on billboards. She was engaged and everything was just perfect...That was until she found the lipstick that was absolutely not her shade on Bretts shirt. This would not do and with the help of her 2 sisters she would cast a spell that would make him stay with her forever. I loved grannys house which seemed to have a mind of its own and I laughed out loud when I realized what was happening...It is true you should always be careful what you wish for. Destiny’s Dark Light by Sara Dobie Bauer Ok so I actually threw my kindle down when this story ended, this author is evil, I can not believe it ended there...Now I have to wait till next month to see what Cyan saw when she entered Sybils studio..Argh!! This was a fun quick read and although I'll need to read it again to get everything straight about what is happening, I loved the growing friendship between Cyan and Liam and I can not wait till the next part of this book to see what is going to happen. This was my first read by this author and I loved it!! I loved these stories, they were quick and fun to read, and I've gained 2 new authors to follow, the 3rd is already a favorite. They were all 5 star reads! I don't normally like anthologies but this one was awesome!!!

If you were a fan of the Percy Jackson novels, this one will tickle your fancy. Aster and Chandra are two very funny characters and their quick wit and banter back and forth is one huge selling point to this story. This was a great starting point to the anthology and a great foundation to build upon the remaining stories. Between all three stories, I found that I enjoyed this one the most as it was, in my opinion, the most light hearted and most fun. Ms. Sparrow is a fantastic story teller and weaves a very fun tale! These Roots Run Deep, By Em Shotwell. This story was slow to start, but boy when it did, it took off. There really isn’t any way for you to fully guess what is going on with this story and when the plot is fully revealed, my jaw dropped. This is one fun read, and Cheyanne is one heck of a character. Ms. Shotwell has a brilliant mind that weaves together a tale of spells, magic and mischief. Destiny’s Dark Light, By Sara Dobie Bauer, is a book where I was smiling the whole way thorough. Of all three of these books, this is the only one that ends with a cliff-hanger (spoiler) and it will continue within in the Enchanted Trilogy. This story follows Cyan (how cool of a name is that??) and she has the crazy ability to see the future, well, snippets of it anyways, when all of a sudden she meets, literally face to face, with her own destiny, and the worst of it. He has no idea. This story is sweet. Super, super sweet and the setting for the next book was perfectly set. Ms Dobie Bauer spins a tale of danger, mystery and love, and does an amazing job. This anthology is a great starter for those who want to wet their whistle on this type of book, I happily give this book 4 out of 5 stars! These authors are amazing!

This was an excellent Book One to a trilogy of stories by three talented authors. I would have preferred if the third story was the same format as the other two, a complete story and is part of the reason I've removed a star. “When Demigods Court Death” by Wendy Sparrow: The best of the bunch. A solid plot with an interesting premise, excellent writing and funny, likeable characters. Totally charming. Five Stars. “These Roots Run Deep” by Em Shotwell: Sadly the lowest rating of the three which is a pity, since it had good characters and a good plot idea. For me the author telegraphed what (I believe) was supposed to be a surprise ending too much. I guessed (correctly) early on and from that point the story wasn't as enjoyable for me as everything seemed to lead to that point. Three and a half stars. “Destiny’s Dark Light -- Part One” by Sara Dobie Bauer: Excellent writing, excellent characters, a plot that had me totally engrossed from the beginning to the end and... it ends on a cliffhanger and continues through the next two volumes of the trilogy. As I said earlier, I think this was a mistake. Would have been a five star read with an ending, as it is it's four stars. While there are certainly elements of romance in these stories, for me it was more of a fantasy/magic genre and I would recommend this book to those who like either. Fun to read, thanks to Booksprout for my copy, my review is given freely.

These Roots Run Deep – Em Shotwell This story made me laugh so much! I would love a magical house! Especially if it didn’t let in the people I didn’t like!! This is probably the shortest story in the anthology but it didn’t disappoint. I had no idea what was going to happen until I got to the end of it. I liked all of the characters, Cheyanne especially! I definitely wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side and her and her sisters!! Destiny’s Dark Light (Part 1) – Sara Dobie Bauer I think this was the emotional story out of the anthology! I loved Cyan! She was genuinely a lovely person, even if she is a witch! She wants to do the right thing even if it hurts her in the process. I was so excited when I got to the end to find out this was only part 1 – I cannot wait to see what happens next. Will cyan find the answers she’s looking for?

As you can imagine this book will have you giggling, commiserating and engaged. These Roots Run Deep: What would you do if you found out your fiancé was cheating on you? Well for Cheyanne Murphy there wasn’t any question. She was going to do whatever it takes to save her relationship. This book focuses more on magic and will have you rooting for her to keep her man. It’s funny, witty and a little crazy. Spells, potions, and sisterly dynamics always make for a good read. Destiny’s Dark Light: I have to confess, I think this may have been my favorite out of the 3 stories. With a backdrop of N’Orleans how could this book go wrong? If you grew up knowing your life was destined to be a certain way, how would you handle it? Well, Cyan Burroughs (isn’t that the most fabulous name?) is ready. She’s tough yet vulnerable and her crazy relatives are a hoot. Funny yet poignant this story will leave you wanting much much more.

Destiny's Dark Light: Part One by Sara Dobie Bauer I enjoyed this story immensely. Ms. Bauer really knows how to tell a tale. The plot was entertaining and the characters were interesting. The plot pits good vs evil, of course. It is a complex work and really made me think. The characters were what really made this book special. Each and everyone was well written and wonderfully charming. I also really liked that there was a real family support group involved. So many times, the parents and family are absent in these books. I just think it is much more interesting when there is family and/or friends that have to be considered. They add a whole other dimension. This Anthology is a really wonderful collection of really wonderful tales. it explores the many different ways love and magic can interact.

Enchanted Book 1 is a three story anthology with a magical theme. When Demigods Court Death I really enjoyed this story, however I felt like it could have been either a little longer, or a little deeper. It felt like there could have been more to it. When Demigods court death is an intriguing and interesting read that I was hooking in its own way. I think we needed more of an in-depth look at this book for it to truly reach its full potential. I'll look forward to reading book 2 to see what other captivating stories we are given!
