Wolves, vampires & witches oh my. The Voodoo Dolls rock band run a voodoo shop by day the rock on by night. Mystery seems to gravitate towards these gals. Loved how the pull together to help friends and each other even risking their own lives to get to the bottom of the mystery. I can’t wait for the next story.

Voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. The Voodoo Dolls is a band and someone tries to put a death spell on lead singer Jenna. Her and her band-mates never knew magic was real or vampires for that matter. They are in for a bit awakening. When friends come for help they can't resist with the help of a supposedly good vampire and wolf. They risk a lot and hopefully succeed in saving the missing girl. I typically dont read YA but the story line intrigued me. This was an ok read. Its UF so its not Voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. In regards to UF its not like romance doesnt exist in the books. Its just not a focal point and usually it happens later in the series. Although it kills us sometimes. I've read YA before but this seemed to read more high school sometimes. Not the whole time but it came through sometimes. I've read her stuff before and I've felt the same so perhaps this isnt the author for me. I do wish the beginning was fleshed out a little more in regards to what was happening. I felt I was missing something when I got into it. That could be because it is a series and more things will be written in later. In the prologue its set in future and then book starts 2 weeks before that. I did feel lost for sure at one point. A lot of people will enjoy the book and not have an issue and thats fine. I'm probably going to be the odd one and thats ok. A decent read.

After Jenna and her band-mates find out that magic is actually real and so are Vampires and shifters their life has gotten a lot more hectic. I find it rather comforting that Jenna can not see how Rico feels for her even though it is right in front of her eyes. I can not wait to see what is in store for the rest of this series as the girls and their antics make me laugh. I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it.

With all of the four and five star reviews, I had high hopes for "New Orleans Magic." Unfortunately, the world building and characterizations were cursory and the writing wasn't very sophisticated. Rico doesn't hesitate especially since he is attracted to Jenna but does she return his affection? As Rico and his pack investigate, they uncover a strange alliance between the vampires and the witches. Does this alliance have anything to do with the kidnapping? Only time will tell. I had a difficult time connecting with this read initially because it was clear there were events that had occurred previously that I knew nothing about; yet, this was supposed to be book one. Later the author mentions there are two prequels. This read felt outdated and rudimentary even though the plot had potential. Additionally, the ending was so abrupt and so many issues were left unresolved that you can't even call this a cliffhanger. It was more like an incomplete body of work. Clearly, I didn't enjoy this read as much as others and needless to say but I won't be going on with this series.

I picked this book up under the impression it's a first in the series but it's actually not, there is a non numbered book (or two) out there that comes first. Until I realised this, I felt lost and thrown into the story with a prologue that tried to explain the current situation of vampire friends, foes and wolfpack business. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I felt disconnected to the characters and this didn't change throughout 3 chapters. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I felt disconnected to the characters and this didn't change throughout 3 chapters. I also had the feeling of Twilight deja vue as the female main characters seems to be involved in a love triangle with the (clueless) affection from a wolfshifter and attraction to a vampire. All this together let me give up on reading further. Maybe some day I might pick it up again, who knows.

New Orleans Magic by J.L. Hendricks is book 1 in her Voodoo Dolls series. In this book we are introduced to a group of girls who are adopted sisters. They are all members of a band called The Voodoo Dolls and they run a little voodoo shop where they sell love potions and other voodoo materials that they create using science because they don't have an ounce of magic between them but they're good at what they do that's for sure on both the music front and the business front. The girls have gotten themselves mixed up into some trouble with their triplet friends come to tell them that their sister has gone missing and that the police really aren't taking it seriously. The triplets are very close and know that something is wrong because their sister would never just leave and cut all contact with them but from a video of when the sister was last seen the police are inclined she did. Thing is...vampires are involved and the sister's disappearance isn't the only one that has happened lately. Lots of goings on are happening and none of it looks good. Question now is....is the sister still alive or has she been killed or turned and what will it take to help get her back? Good thing the sisters have an in with the local wolf pack. I really enjoyed this book and I honestly had a hard time putting it down. This book alternates characters for the point of view so you go from sister to sister to sister and back again and also the point of view of Rico, the local wolf pack Alpha. I think that it's interesting and fun because you really get to get into each characters heads and see what is going on. It does get a little confusing at a few moments but the author really takes the time to not switch up characters in the middle of a chapter. Each chapter is dedicated to a specific character in that moment and does a really good job at staying focused because while not everyone will like this each character has something important to contribute when the story is done this way. Right now I have to say that my favorite character is Jenna. I say that because there is the potential for a budding romance between her and Rico but she is against it right now because of the things that have happened to her in her past which I can totally relate to. These are some really fun and engaging characters and I really enjoyed reading this. The only thing that I didn't like about this story is when the girls know that they are potentially in danger BECAUSE of what Rico tells them! He warns them that the vampires might try to come after them and that they need to be prepared and STAY INSIDE. But a couple of them decide to go on this feminist trip of trying to prove that they aren't helpless and can be of some use too. Now yes, they do find out some helpful information but it almost cost them their lives in the process and makes things a bit more difficult for Rico when he has to go back and be dealing with the Queen. It's one thing to know what you're doing and are prepared for what you might go up against but they aren't and want to treat the men like they are chauvinistic pigs. These guys are shifters...it's ingrained to protect. Plain and simple. All in all I honestly enjoyed this book. It was such a fun read and one that if I could have read it in one sitting I honestly would have but things kept getting in the way. I like the characters and I love the dynamics that are being set up for future books in this series. I really think that this is going to be a fun and interesting series and cannot wait to read more. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I received a copy of this book for review.

If you take a rock group, New Orleans, VooDoo, magic, with vampires and shifters entwined into a fast paced story giving you a hint of what the reader will find in this story. Adalaide and Amaline have come to the VooDoo house to see if their friends can help them find their missing sister Acadia. What they don't know is there is more to the kidnapping then they could ever realize. You see, two weeks ago, Indie was abruptly drawn into the paranormal world when she and Kate's lives were threatened by a rogue vampire. If not for the help of Ivan, Kate's friend and a vampire, they would not be alive to tell the tale. Now with the help of the local were pack, The VooDoo Dolls and their friends are about to embark into dangers that few know even exist as they fight to find their missing friend. Add to that love interests between many of the key characters giving the reader a wild ride and this is just the start of this series.

This series is one of the top ones on my TBR list. J.L. Hendricks and thanks to Kindle Unlimited I finally get the chance to start the series. The Voodoo Dolls are a punk-rock indie band. I definitely recommend this series. I wasn't disappointed at all and once again was enthralled by the action, the twists and just the overall introduction of the series.

The book had many errors in it with wrong words used and whole sentences that did not make sense. There was constant reference to how the Voodoo Dolls first encountered the “supernatural community”; and this is what should have been included in the first book. Now I purchased the actual paperback book and normally with a book that is only noted to have 178 pages I will only buy this via Kindle. But I took a chance……. Wrong choice. Not only was this book “not 178 pages log” it was only 145 pages. The book had many errors in it with wrong words used and whole sentences that did not make sense. I do not think I will try the second book myself.

I liked the setup for this book. I found the shifting viewpoints in each chapter also an interesting concept. When the boxed set was cheap I bought it, even though I hadn't finished the first book (this one). However.... The writing's a little ... clunky. And the constantly shifting viewpoints really need smooth writing, IMO. Also. The ending was totally blah. I was debating 3* or 4* for this book, and then the book just ... stopped. The plot of the story itself is quite good- Not too over dramatic yet has enough spunk and action that keeps the reader very engaged and invested. I can honestly say that I really enjoyed delving deeper in the magical world the author creates. Great Action Packed Read This book is full of action and surprise. The Indie rock group, The Voodoo Dolls, learn that the supernatural exists, and seem to run head-on into it. This is a great read with intrigue, mystery, humor, and the resilence of spirit and optimism to get through anything. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would love to continue reading the entire series to its conclusion. I do wish it was offered on other platforms besides Amazon though. Dive in and enjoy!

The Voodoo Dolls are a band of adopted sisters that also run a fake Voodoo Shop. Jenna was saved from a vampire by a wolf shifter named Rico. There is chemistry between them but Jenna is afraid to do anything about it. The girls may be a kick ass band but not so much for protecting themselves or staying out of trouble. I can't wait to see what the girls get into next. I would highly recommend this book. The Voodoo Dolls are a band of adopted sisters that also run a fake Voodoo Shop. This book was okay, but I felt like I joined a series midstream. I got it because it says book 1 in a series, but I don't believe this can possibly be the starting point. The author assumes we know these characters and their backstories so we're left trying to fill in the gaps. There may be a prequel somewhere, but I didn't enjoy this enough to look for it. I won't be moving on to the next book. I just don't care what happens to these characters. This book was okay, but I felt like I joined a series midstream. Liked the story, and look forward to reading the rest. I hope to read more in order to help flesh out the characters and their friends. Everything still seems surface level in the first book. Wanted to give 3.5 stars, but can only give whole stars. Didn’t like the regular change of character POV and it has some small editing errors.

Can't decide who I am most upset with the girls or their protectors. Once the magic was proven true, Rico the Alpha should have realized that these girls/women were not going to be little stay-at-home, submissive women and trained them for what was probably going to happen in the near future. Lots of action and fighting, but a lot of stupidity too. Can't decide who I am most upset with the girls or their protectors.
