It is not a novella, but neither is it a. long novel. It had excellent characters, and stories connected with them. I felt a little let down that it did not go further into the future, but what was written was very entertaining. It would have been five stars if more detail, and the future was experienced, instead of promised.

Not a typical historical romance, not a typical murder mystery, not a typical anything. I like it! Great story about a sailor and an actress and their friends and family. I hope Jasmine writes more books about these characters, because I've become quite attached to them... I received a copy and chose to review it. I wish I could put 4 1/2 stars, however that's not an option. First, the cover of the book drew me in and captured my interest. While this is a quick read, it provides wonderful ground work for longer, more in depth novels. You get to meet the characters in their current situations and can see the changes in their lives begin to take shape. It's a nice, clean budding romance that anyone from 14 up could read and enjoy. I look forward to reading the continuation of the saga. I wish I could put 4 1/2 stars, however that's not an option. First, the cover of the book drew me in and captured my interest. This well written story and the well developed characters drew me right into their story and kept me captivated from the very beginning until the very end! There was a little bit of everything for everyone in this book from action, adventure, mystery, murder, and of course romance. I look forward to reading more from Jasmine Ashford!

This was a short, sweet read with some mystery peppered in with the romance. It seemed to me that Wesley and Lola's friends had actually been working "behind the scenes" to get them together, and I found that endearing. But to save her, will he be willing to expose that he holds the title of Earl... a title he has never wanted and has been hiding from everyone? This is a very quick read by a new to me author. I was hoping for more historical accuracy. There was terminology which did no fit with the Regency period. A young man, Wesley, who is in the British Navy and leaving his inherited Irish title behind. He goes ashore and meets and falls in love with a famous actress, Lola. Then he helps her theater company by solving 3 murders and brings the guilty party to the police. For me, the plot lacked some development. It appeared there was little depth. Meh Unlikely story of an Earl in hiding falling in love at first sight with an actress. Little character development, silly plot. And my pet peeve, anachronisms abound. "Blunt force trauma"?? Heartwarming A good book with the required happy ending. I thought that it would have been better with a little more drama leading up to the arrest of the murderer.

This book has action from the beginning all the way to the end. There are naval skirmishes, mystery, murders, romance, and even a medical emergency. And all this occurs in a few hours of reading. You will not be bored! I enjoyed Wesley and Lola's blossoming relationship and their ability to meld their professional aspirations. The secondary characters enhanced each scene. I hope to see Bamber find his happiness in the next two books.. This book has action from the beginning all the way to the end. This is an amusing and entertaining story, with some drama and mystery thrown in. Wesley is shy and charming. Lola is bold and sweet. The storyline is very different from anything I have read before. It grabbed my interest immediately and kept it until the end. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest opinion of it.

I read the book in one sitting. I don't usually go out of my way to read novellas because they just aren't long enough for the details I want in a story. But I really enjoyed this read. I love any book that has to do with ships so that drew me to the cover. My joy in life is working on stage so I loved to read about the theatre. So in my mind, this book had double the intrigue and interest from the very start. I really enjoyed it. Great characters I wanted to learn more about. Wesley joined the Navy to leave behind the memories of his childhood at the hands of a cruel father and to avenge the French attack that destroyed his home. Only a very few friends know that he is the Earl of Rippon, and he wants it to stay that way. Lola Montclair is an actress who is happy with her life. She is friends with Lord Aaron Bamber and his sister Annabelle. They meet when Wesley and some of his shipmates accept an invitation to spend shore leave with at Bamber’s manor. They like each other right away. When Lola is accused of a string of murders of male cast members, Wesley steps in to protect her and to help solve the crimes and the mystery around them. There is quite the puzzle to solve. Did Lola commit the murders, and if not, who did, and why? If he can prove Lola’s innocence, and everyone knows of his title, will the Earl and the actress be able to step out of the norms of Society and have a happy life together? This is a love story and a mystery. The well-written plot flows smoothly and draws the reader in. I read it in one sitting. The ensemble of characters in the story fit together perfectly, a group of friends comfortable with and supportive of each other. It is an interesting collection of class, career, and caring. As Ms. Ashford said, there are twists, turns, and surprises in both the romance and the crime mystery. I look forward to other stories in the series.

An interesting romance between an Earl pretending to be a lowly sailor, and a beautiful actress who is a childhood friend of one of his shipmates. The story includes intrigue in the shape of a murder mystery and a feisty heroine who knows her own mind. An enjoyable book, and I look forward to its sequel.

What a wonderful debut book in a new series. Who doesn't love a man in uniform, especially one that is hiding his identity as royalty? Welsey would rather be a Navy man than claiming his title of Earl. Lola is a beloved and talented actress. Neither thought that love and happiness would find its way in their hearts, until a chance meeting. An Earl turned Midshipman An enjoyable novel. I liked all the main characters. It was pleasant to read a book without heavy sex scenes. The men are all Naval officers and the main woman was a leading actress. They solved a mystery where actors were being killed. It was a light hearted story.

This is my first read with Jasmine Ashford and I found the story to be a little rushed. This is a clean historical romance, but it went along too fast. I liked the plot and the characters. I just think Wesley could have been a little more manly and less sappy. All in all it was a nice read.
