Well, this book was well on it's way to a five star rating from me, but it just fell short of the mark because the ending was a little off for me. But for sheer sexuality and eroticism, it rates a 5+! Madison Phillips is a beautiful, 25 yr. old rich girl, but determined to make it on her own. After getting her MBA and living in Italy for a year, she returns home to Seattle to open up her very own espresso shop called Ooo La Latte, determined to make it a success. Maddie's been trying to get over being dumped by her longtime boyfriend, and figures it's past time to 'get back in the saddle again'. She thinks she needs a 'rebound romance', a guy who she can just use for sex and not have to worry about a 'relationship'. Now, where can she find a guy like that? How about sexy cop Gabe Martinez? Gabe's known as a love 'em and leave 'em type, never staying with one woman for very long, and never having a serious relationship. Tall, dark, and handsome, and sexy as all get out, he's just what Maddie's looking for. The fact that he's her older brother Eric's best friend and always thought of her as a little sister could make it tricky, but Maddie figures he's worth it. Maddie sets out to seduce him, determined that he becomes her 'transition' guy. She uses all her best moves on him, but Gabe proves to be somewhat resistent to her charms. He thinks sleeping with his best friend's sister is a bad idea, even though Maddie is one tempting package. Well, things between Maddie and Gabe soon come to a head, when Maddie is robbed and nearly killed by Seattle's notorious Espresso Bandit. Although Gabe's last minute arrival saves Maddie from certain death, she also is in danger because she is the only one who can identify the Espresso Bandit. Figuring she needs some kind of protection until the bandit is caught, Maddie's brother begs Gabe to watch over her, and she ends up staying with him at his place. When the bandit makes an attempt on Maddie's life again, Gabe determines it's better to get Maddie out of town and in seclusion where it's safe. He takes her to nearby Whidbey Island, and that's where the romance really takes off. Gabe does his best to resist Maddie, but he really doesn't stand a chance against her seductive powers of persuasion! Soon their plan of using each other for sex without a relationship is laughable. And once they get to Whidbey Island, it's clear that they were made for each other, even if they are each reluctant to admit it. They open up to each other like they've never done with anyone before, talking and revealing things about themselves that nobody else knows. Their blossoming love is touching to see happening. They spend romantic days and evenings together, getting to know each other intimately. But while everything is like Paradise on Whidbey Island, a return to Seattle and what awaits them there threatens to destroy their new-found romance. Will the new-found trust and love they feel for each other be enough to overcome all the obstacles in their path? There was much to love about this book. It hooked me from the start, was easy to read, and I had a hard time putting it down. Although Maddie at first rubbed me the wrong way--I found her a little spoiled, immature, and a bit of a ditz (she even had a few TSTL moments), she soon grew on me. I found her bold attempts to seduce Gabe, and the way he tried to resist her, almost comical. I knew he wouldn't last long! And when he finally gave in--whew!! These two were red hot! Lots and lots of erotic moments (the lake, in front of the fireplace, the espresso shop) and some very romantic ones too. And Gabe--I had no problem with him at all--he was muy caliente! He was protective, possessive, romantic and touchingly vulnerable at times. What I did have a little problem with was how Maddie treated Gabe after something very harrowing happened near the end of the story. I just thought she was way too hard on him, and showed some immaturity. I expected her to be more forgiving and understanding. After their stay on Whidbey Island, I felt like she was in love with Gabe. But it seemed like she was waffling on her feelings for him, and that disappointed me. I wanted her to commit to him totally, and she just didn't seem like she was 100% invested in the relationship. One other little thing bugged me. Gabe often called Maddie "mi vida", which is Spanish for...well, I won't reveal it. But Maddie often wondered what it meant, but she never asked him or tried to find out on her own what it meant. I kept waiting for the author to reveal Maddie realizing what it meant, but it never happened. Just a minor annoyance, and certainly nothing to ruin this mostly very satisfying read. If you're looking for a very erotic, yet romantic read, with mostly lovable characters who you can root for, you'll find it in "Dangerous Grounds"--4 1/2 stars!

#1 Seattle Steam series A book featuring an expresso shop, a robber nicknamed The Expresso bandit, and a romance? Sounded fine to me! Meet Madison, our heroine and coffee shop owner, as she hopes Gabe, her older brother's best friend, hunky cop Gabe, will stop by for her Grand Opening: Page 20: "... because she'd made a point of looking ultra-sexy today. Low-rise jeans showed off her tiny pink thong, if she happened to bend over, and a clingy black T-shirt that read They're Real hugged her breasts." #1 Seattle Steam series A book featuring an expresso shop, a robber nicknamed The Expresso bandit, and a romance? Yeah, that's what I'd wear to a Grand Opening of my business too. Madison talking to Gabe about her new shop: Page 21: Gabe: "Have you hired any employees?" Madison: "Sarah. She's been a barista with Starbucks for three years. ... She's a goddess at making expresso drinks." Gabe: "Along with you, right?" Madison: "No, umm, not so much." She waved her hand through the air in dismissal. "Until yesterday I'd never made a latte in my life. Hell, I could barely make a pot of coffee." He blinked, seeming stunned by the news. "You don't know how to make an expresso? And you're opening your own business?" Madison: "Will you please give me some credit, Gabe?" She rolled her eyes. "I've downed a ton of the stuff." Gabe: "Are you kidding me?" Madison: "I worked at that cafe in Italy for a year. I saw them doing it -- I just never did it myself." OK, after a year of enjoying sexy and erotic reads, I'm now looking for more plot and less sex. This IS a Samhain book, so I should have expected more sex than plot. My mistake. But I had to quit reading at page 21 (before I threw the book across the back yard at the fence). I'd tag this book: TSTL (too slutty to live), and TDSTOYOB (too damn stupid to open your own business). Yes, that was me yelling "WTF happens if Sarah, the expresso goddess calls in sick, or quits??". "How do you order supplies for your cafe IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHICH INGREDIENTS GO INTO YOUR PRODUCTS?"

Loved this opposites attract story. Madison was a sweet but pampered princess and Gabriel was the alpha hottie with a giant chip on his shoulder, but together they brought out the best in each other. The story was hot, sexy and had me laughing out loud a few times with Madison's goofy antics. Yeah, I'm talking about the microwave eggs and her idea of getting the drop on a burglar - in her underwear! That had be laughing so hard, I was getting weird looks at work, but it was worth it. I love a good laugh and this had some stellar moments of hilarity :) The story moved quickly and stayed on point. It had some steamy love scenes and some great banter between the MCs. I loved the fact that as Gabriel's best friend and Maddie's older brother, Eric didn't pull the usual stunt about warning his best friend from his sister. He actually respected both of them and was up front about accepting a relationship between them. That was refreshing to see. There was one thing I could have done without, and that was the conflicting emotional signals Maddie throws Gabriel towards the end. Her knee jerk reaction to feeling abandoned by Gabriel came off as selfish and immature. Granted Gabe chose the worst time to leave her but Maddie acted like it was a crime that she had to save herself?! I didn't understand that. It just rubbed me the wrong way that she couldn't be more proud of herself for surviving, on her own. Yeah, it would have been awesome if Gabe had burst in and helped her fight off the bad guy but to expect him to literally break the laws of physics to rescue her seemed far fetched and unfair. Somehow, I think that could have somehow been written to show Maddie in a better light. In the end though and once things get cleared up, it was a great ending to a spicy hot romance. Safety: Ages: Gabriel is 31 and Maddie is 25. Neither are virgins There is slight OW drama (view spoiler)[ Maddie and Gabriel at first decide to keep their friends with benefits relationship a secret. Eric's fiance tries to play match maker with her bridesmaid and Gabriel and this does cause some friction between the MCs. 3.5 Stars I have to say it's not very often that I come across a character that I really dislike. Unfortunately, in this story, Madison is definitely not on the top of my list. I know the author was trying to make her a strong, independent woman who knew exactly what she liked, but in reality she created a character who came off like a cocky, spoiled, inconsiderate, trampy girl. The good thing is, and the only thing that got me through this book, was Gabe. A decidedly hot, kind, caring guy who gave 3.5 Stars I have to say it's not very often that I come across a character that I really dislike. He became her protector and the object of a few sweaty moments of my own. While the author had a strong plot that was unique and well-developed, I wish Madison would've been a different type of woman. We are given a great HEA but it wasn't without a lot of bumps in the road. With plenty of sexy hot moments in this read and the delicious specimen with the name of Gabe, this was a really good book. I just didn't connect with Madison in the least. And for that reason kind of soured my experience with this book. * a copy was received for review consideration

She's awfully feisty and eager to get Gabe to notice her. I found her judgment to be a little off at times. She means well but she comes across a bit harsh. She's also wishy washy wanting Gabe then pushing him away. I thought Gabe deserved better. The book leaves us with a happy for now ending. I'm glad these two were able to put aside their differences and make it work. Review copy provided for a voluntary review.

What a neat modern-day, erotic book! Nicely written with style. I will look for more by this author. The book wasn't just about SEX. In the beginning, it was more a hot book than erotica, but things did pick up to earn it the bump up to erotica. It does not go into detail every time the couple has sex. There is a viable threat to Maddie with the Espresso Bandit. He is robbing businesses and is a cold-blooded killer. Maddie came from a very affluent family and decided to open her own Coffee Shop. There is a viable threat to Maddie with the Espresso Bandit. He is robbing businesses and is a cold-blooded killer. Maddie came from a very affluent family and decided to open her own Coffee Shop. I thought the author did an excellent job growing her character. Maddie was spoiled--her first car was a Lexus--ate out for almost every meal, etc. She didn't even know how to make a latte and had to rely on the skills of her "one" employee (I felt another book there with Sarah and Brian). That was...strange and it almost made the book silly, but it allowed her character to develop. Gabe, police officer and best friend to Maddie's brother, Eric, has known Maddie since she was a kid. He was 6 years older than her and when he recognized Maddie as a grown, beautiful woman he fought hard with himself to keep his hands off her--for the sake of his friendship with Eric. Gabe is a love 'em and leave 'em kinda guy. He has some character conflict: poor family...other things. Maddie puts the moves on Gabe--BIG TIME. She wants to use him as her "rebound" lover after ending a long relationship. After, she is robbed by the Espresso Bandit (and almost killed) he becomes her bodyguard and the sparks fly. Excellent sexual tension! The ending got a little hokey for me and that's all I'll about that. ;-)

To be honest, I have no idea why this book is reviewed so highly, as it is easily the worst romance novel I have read this year. The violent Espresso bandit is robbing and murdering coffee shop workers. Yes, seriously, the Espresso bandit. To me, I started to lose it when I realized that the villian was a Scooby Doo level MacGuffin. I mean, if you can take the Espresso bandit seriously as a stalker bent on murdering coffee shop workers, not merely an oportunistic bandit, you may like this book better than I do. Our hero, Gabe, seems like a sweet normal guy. A lot is made of the fact that he is a blue collar cop, and Maddie is a rich princessy type girl. He is, for some reason, able to deal with Maddie being spoiled, selfish and dumb as well as the most sexually forward woman I have read about in a romance novel in quite some time. Not that there is anything necesarily wrong with that, but combined with her rich entitled attitude it makes it seem like she is the sort of girl who wants an Oompa Loompa and wants one NOW!!!! Not the sort of person I would want to hang out with in real life and not the sort I enjoyed reading about. The sex scenes were fun, but the rest of the book was just strange an unpleasant as Maddie's burned coffee. Some people must like it because it is insanely well reviewed here on Goodreads though. To each their own I guess.

One of my biggest pet peeves in romance is when one of the main characters doesn't take "No" for an answer. Usually, it's the guy who has that problem but here is the woman! The hero clearly says no but then she takes her clothes off and jumps on his lap! Then when the guy gets her off but refuses to go all the way, she gets mad at him! Can you freaking believe this? Note to women: respect goes both ways. Just because a man gets an erection DOES NOT mean that he would or should have sex with you. This was a nice way to spend my day. Gabe and Madison have known each other for years. He's her brother's best friend. My first book by Shelli Stevens, this was almost a DNF, However, it had some good moments of compelling story-teling and a few stretches where I didn't actively dislike the heroine, Maddie. Especially in the beginning of the story, she was immature and spoiled plus TSTL at times. Once her lust/love interest Gabe stopped being described as a love em and leave em type, he had some potential. He even had a moving backstory that comes to light in the second half of the book. But for much of the story, I was annoyed with the characters and not interested in reading about their steamy sex. Toss in a suspense plot that included a villian with the smile inducing moniker of "Expresso Bandit" and I was impatient. I couldn't figure out why this guy was running circles around the cops. He didn't seem especially diabolical or brilliant to me. Every so often, Maddie and Gabe have honest moments which each other and fall in love. Then, just when I wasn't disliking Maddie too much and was finding her growing relationship with Gabe compelling, the ending arrives, rushed and odd. Oh, well. At least the book was a quick read.

Talk about a book with tons of potential that never quite reaches it, well that is this book. The heroine is a dimwit hussy and has more TSTL moments than all of the heroines in all the books I've read in the whole month of August. While attending a welcome home party for Maddie's brother, Eric, she happens upon Gabe, his sexy cop best friend. Wow, when did he get all swoon-worthy??  He's always been a relationship-phoebe and jumps from one girl to the next. Maybe he just may be the ticket Maddie is looking for. But he's Eric's best friend and he's always thought of her as the younger kid sister.  How can she change his mind??  She sets out to seduce him. Using her best moves, Gabe proves to be immune to her advances.  He thinks sleeping with her is a bad idea-even though she is tempting.  Things heat up when Maddie's business is robbed by the Espresso Bandit, and Gabe's arrival saves her from death. But the Bandit flees out the back door with her purse.  He now knows where she lives.  As she is the only person whose seen him, the cops put her under protection until the man is caught. Eric asks Gabe to personally watch over her, so she moves into his house.  Things definitely heat up between the two.  Feelings start getting in the way though, and lines become blurry.  Maddie has another attempt on her life, so Gabe whisks her out of town.  They hide away in seclusion at a friends cabin. Gabe and Maddie's romance blossoms in the secluded cabin.  They really get to know one another and talk about things no one else knows.  Romantic dinners and walks on the beach-everything is like a dream. When they are forced back out of hiding to identify a suspect, things go sideways quick.  Can they right the path given the obstacles thrown in their way?? I enjoyed Gabe and Maddie's romance!  I rooted for these two from the start and their romance just flowed. I felt Maddie was immature at times and even naïve, but I liked her.  There was no way Gabe wasn't going to fold to her seducing ways!  They were hot together and sex was whew! give me a cigarette!  Gabe was smitten right away-although he didn't want to admit it.  He knew Maddie felt different to him. He wanted her with him so he could protect her and keep her from harm. The ending was done well, the Espresso Bandit meets his match, but I didn't like Maddie's misplaced sediments towards Gabe after.  Yes she comes around, finally, and we are treated to the ending our heart's want so bad! The premise is very very promising, but somehow it lacks something that got me all whoo whoo. It lacks the drama. I was expecting so many Alpha-ish Hero but in the end he didn't really make the cut. And the heroine too, I got pissed off a lot at her childish attitude. So yeah, overall I enjoyed this book but could be so much better. Look forward to read more. The premise is very very promising, but somehow it lacks something that got me all whoo whoo. When it comes to Maddie, Gabe is easily made into a jealous man, “****, Maddie. Enough,” Gabe snapped. He didn’t want to know another d*** thing about Franco or Sam. Especially Franco." Maddie sometimes has really great ideas, “you’re right. Let’s stay in here and keep doing the sex thing.” I really liked this book, I loved Gabe. A cute book. I loved Gabe. A hot guy with a heart always does it for me. He had some issues he needed to work around to be in a relationship and it was nice to see him grow throughout the book. He and Madison were cute together and I could feel the attraction. Although things moved quickly it helped that they had know each other a long time (even if they hadn't seen each other in a while). Madison had some good qualities, she came from a privileged lifestyle but wanted to do something on her own which is why she opened her own business. I think she was a caring person, if a bit (or a lot) self centered. I think what kept me from loving the book was her behavior. The way she threw herself at Gabe and her big seduction scene bordered on pathetic. And I totally do not understand how she treated Gabe at the end. Completely unreasonable. I felt so bad for him. Then she solves the problem by acting like a fool at her brothers wedding rehearsal. Talk about uncomfortable. I am happy they got things straightened out in the end. I really do wish there had been an epilogue though. It just kind of ended abruptly. I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

This pains me to say, but this was a DNF for me. I got as far as 5% through, and hated the heroine! I have loved every other Shellie Stevens books I have read! On chatting to her cousin, Stacia, who in all innocence asks about her boyfriend, to be told "He broke up with me" Stacia replies that he is a bastard and should have put a ring on her finger long ago. Madison blinked, her stomach clenching at the fact her cousin had brought up such an awkward subject in a room full of people. "And aren't you tactful" Ok, well, first, asking where your boyfriend is at a party is a pretty normal question, Madison was the blunt one with her "He broke up with me" response and hence brought it up in a room full of people. 2. She decided, instantly, her brothers best friend, is going to be her rebound guy. With no concerns about this poor sod, or what this might do to his relationship with her brother, his best friend! 3. His gaze drifted through the door and he spotted Maddie speaking to her dad. She glanced over at the patio. Even though he knew she couldn't see him past the reflection of the glass inside, she raised an eyebrow and her mouth curved into a slow smile. ok, let us just imagine how that looked to the rest of the room, and if she could not see him, he could have moved, or did she expect him to be standing there staring after her like a love sick puppy! 4. After a vague invite to her coffee shop over the weekend, she is disappointed as he has not turned up Because she'd made a point of looking extra sexy today. Low rise jeans showed off her tiny pink thong, if she happened to bend over, and a clingy black t-shirt that read "They're real" hugged her breasts. Ugh, ok. 5. This poor victim..oops I mean man, actually does turn up, she forces a coffee on him even tough he does not like coffee, she ofc does the whole oops I dropped something to slowly bend over, smiling as she knows she is flashing her thong, then asks Can I get you anything else? Are you hungry> Do you want some biscotti? Maybe a Bagel?" She ran her tongue over her bottom lip. "Or how about a blowjob?" 6. Oh, and this woman, is opening a coffee shop, without knowing how to make coffee herself, but it is ok, she has hired a barista, who, although is a student, I am assuming will not do any attending lectures, studying or having days off, being sick etc, seeing as she is the only person, in a coffee shop, who can make coffee (hide spoiler)] Now, even if a book is not working for me, I would normally give it more time. But tbh, too many of these rolling my eyes moment over Maddie in the first chapter alone, made it a DNF. It might have got better, I don't know,I just didn't like the female lead enough to even try. Read a much better example of what this author can do.

Grounds for Seduction by Shelli Stevens is a good read with plenty of heat. Maddie and Gabe have such great chemistry and the banter between the two...I abso~love it! Maddie definitely likes to try and get Gabe all riled up...and who of us wouldn’t? I want a Gabe :p This story is based on the brother’s best-friend troupe and is well-done. Definitely will be adding Ms. Stevens to my go-to author list. How will their enforce confinement end, can Gabe keep his promise, or will Maddie stop her sexual tormenting. Gabe deserved a medal living with Maddie, and she was very "self-involved", you could never be too sure what she would do next. I like the story though, it was fun and it also had a little drama and suspense. I highly recommend this book. Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review

I enjoyed this story. It's probably a cliched story line, but I still enjoyed it. I like it when love sneaks up on people, which is what happened here on both sides. Both people thought it was just a fling when it started, but quickly realized they didn't want it to end. I think near the end was a bit over-the-top in terms of her attitude towards him, but it ended up an HEA. I enjoyed this story. It's probably a cliched story line, but I still enjoyed it. This was adorable. I just loved Gabe and Maddie together. All the false starts and all the misunderstandings didn't do anything to detract from the feelings they obviously had for each other. I was so happy for the HEA but was sad that things ended so soon. :P This is my first Shellii Stevens book, and I think I'll definitely check out more of her stuff. This was adorable. A LOT of sex. Madison is so forward with Gabe from the get-go, and once you accept her for that, the story comes out. It's not just sex. Gabe tried to be strong and keep away from his BFF's little sister, but she wore him down... A LOT of sex. I didn't like the heroine very much, she seemed kind of shallow and the whole idea to use the hero for rebound killed the romance for me, because she genuinely seemed to not care about him. Also the Espresso Bandit story was just ridiculous. Story was engaging, but Maddie was pretty much totally unlikable. Self absorbed and spoiled and selfish and stupid and the list goes on. Just hard to get into a story when the Heroine is so disliable.
