A Chance for Us - by Jake C. Wallace, is Book 2 in the New Vampire Justice Series published by Dreamspinner Press. After reading book one I was eagerly awaiting this book to see where the story went and how far the author was going to take this series. I have to say, I am really impressed by book two in the series. After reading book one I was eagerly awaiting this book to see where the story went and how far the author was going to take this series. I have to say, I am really impressed by book two in the series. This book does NOT suffer from the dreaded "sequel syndrome" it is a great story and the characters are engaging and relatable to the reader. I loved this book! It had everything I love in a story - Awesome characters, great plot, lots of feelz, a character who falls in love with another despite being same sex - yes, this book is an excellent Gay-For-You! I have to give Kudos to Mr. Wallace as he knocked this one out of the park! First, if you read book one - Dare to Love Forever you know that this series takes place in a dystopian reality, a world where Vampires and Humans live side-by-side both trying to survive. There are good vampires and there are bad vampires - as the same can be said for humans - both good, and bad. This book picks up immediately after book one and yes, you do need to read book one - don't worry its a great book as well! The MC in this story are: Max Kincaid - Vampire     Justin Masters - Human Both of these characters we met in book one and I love that the author is now telling us their story - and what a story it is! Max, he is the second in command of the Washington D.C. branch of the New Vampire Justice League (NVJ), best friend of Lincoln Samuels the Director of the NVJ. Our second MC, Justin Masters, who woke up in book one from a 7-year catatonic state after being bitten at gunpoint by his then boyfriend, Carson Locke - the very rare Tabula Rasa vampire from book one. When Justin woke up in book one, Max was the one who rescued him - the bond between the two started then but only as friends. Since Max is straight, Justin doesn't think he will ever have his loved returned from Max as anything other than a brotherly type of love. This brings us to book two where we finally get to see what is going on in the heads of Max and Justin - and of course, Mr. Wallace has created another fast-paced thrilling plot that keeps you flipping pages as fast as you can while watching love blossom between our two MC's. I have to say that Max takes his changing sexuality like a total boss in this story - he just knows that Justin is his and he isn't going to let a little thing like him being a guy change how he feels. Justin becomes a little gun-shy by Max's easy acceptance and attempts to protect his heart one last time - to which Max replies: "We could 'what if" this to death, right? We could think of everything that could go wrong, but it's a chance people take when they feel it's worth it. Will you take a chance with me?" ---- "I want you in every way possible. You've filled my heart, and as hokey as that sounds, I can't let you go no matter what. Whatever you need or want, I'm in" -- "I think you stole my heart the moment you woke up and your eyes focused on mine. I remember thinking how beautiful they were...how beautiful you were. Still are." I have to admit that I love the mushy scenes between these two when Max lay's it all on the line to Justin and isn't afraid of what others will think - he only wants to make Justin happy. Max proves he will do anything to keep Justin happy, to be what he needs, to be his other half and to help him deal with whatever comes his way. As the author adds in some plot twists and shows us some of what Justin went through when he was missing during those seven years - all of Justin's needs come to light and the reason behind them. There are some aspects of this book that make you go "hmmmm" initially, all I can say without spoiling the book is to KEEP READING - you will get the answers you want and the way they are delivered is perfect! I love this series and I cannot wait for the next book. While I have loved each couple thus far in the series, I will always have a special place in my heart for Max and Justin because they went through so much - both alone and together, and they never gave up, they kept fighting, and they finally got their HEA! I recommend this book and the series - 5 Stars!

Caution: the story contains implied abused and non-con/raped. This second entry of the "New Vampire Justice" series took place about five months after Dare to Love Forever ended. I have to say - while I was looking forward to how it turned out with Justin and Max - the story wasn't what I expected. There were layers on the storyline which connect a few members of NVJ team, no doubt to prepare further installments in the series. There were layers on the storyline which connect a few members of NVJ team, no doubt to prepare further installments in the series. This series is certainly a different take on vampire stories than what I've read so far. Yes, some of the vampires have supernatural abilities, but mostly they were only second citizen species in the world, and all along there had been subtle hostility between humans and vampires. The romance pairing between Max and Justin is more felt here. And there's more intense situation what's with Justin's missed life of seven years, Max confusion over his first attraction to a man. On top of that there's the S&M scenes - which I honestly didn't particularly comfortable with. But their chemistry felt more real to me than Carson and Lincoln in previous book. My issue with the NVJ officers - and I'm not talking of one or two, but most of the team - was how easily they got duped one after another. Granted, this spiced up the story and give momentum to much needed climax! But, seriously, I hope they could be smarter and quick-witted on the next books. After all, with how the story developed at the closing page, the vampire community here need to keep sharp and be ready for anything.

I haven’t read the first book in a couple years, but it didn’t take long to get into the story and remember what happened in the first book. Justin is trying to learn how to live his life while dealing with everything that has happened to him, even if he doesn’t remember everything. Max is terribly confused about his feelings towards Justin, but will do anything to protect him. Max and Justin were thrown together when Max rescued Justin. When Justin starts to get flashes of memory from his years in a catatonic state things start to twist and turn because there is obviously something else going on. Max and Justin are more of a couple in their interaction than they realize and it’s almost too late when Max finally catches up. This story is told from both characters’ points of view, so it is easy to see both of their emotions and thoughts. I could feel how frustrated and lost Justin felt, especially when he started have “dreams” about pleasure in pain. When Max tries to resist his pull to Justin and goes out on a date with a woman, it pushes Justin to go into a bad situation. Max feels desperate to get Justin back and show him how he feels. Cover art by Reese Dante is perfect and I love the visuals for both of the characters, it also follows the pattern for the series.

It took me a lot longer to get into this book than the first one because of all the S&M scenes, which really aren't my thing. A lot of time was spent in Justin's head while he relived the pain and torture in vivid detail, and I was really dreading that his relationship with Max would be just as hardcore. Thankfully it wasn't, although Max still surprised me considering how new he was to the whole gay sex thing. :) Max and Justin gave each other exactly what they both needed and ultimately made a It took me a lot longer to get into this book than the first one because of all the S&M scenes, which really aren't my thing. It was the rest of the story that really held my attention though. The NVJ's investigation into the disappearance/kidnapping of humans at the bite club Mystique and the more sinister underlying plot of pain slaves (and who was responsible for the torture Justin suffered) was gripping. While some suspects were a bit more obvious than others, it was still fascinating to see how a lot of things were intricately woven together. In the end this was another great story and I'm looking forward to more in the series. Tommy and Doc? Caden? Wes? Yes to all please. :)

OMG I have been looking forward to this book since I read the first one when it was first released back in 2014, and it was worth the wait! I LOVED reading about Justin and Max...I'm a big sucker for unrequited, secret love when the other character is trying to figure things out. I loved how protective and caring Max was towards Justin right from the start. It sure took him long enough to figure out what he was feeling, and when they get together it's just *sigh* I loved it. Once Max realized his feelings, he was all in with Justin, and I loved that. I also really liked that this story went into more about the vampires vs humans and what makes the vampires different. I really can't wait for that to be expanded on even further since the way this one ends, I think the tension between the two will definitely be increased. Also loved getting to see Lincoln and Carson, and more on Doc and Tommy. I think Doc and Tommy deserve their own story, as I would love to know about their past and how they are going to move on in the present together. DEFINITELY recommend for an awesome vampire series, but start with the first book before this one as it will definitely make more sense. Hope a 3rd one will be out before too, too long!

4.0 Solid Stars I enjoyed this sequel to the Dare to Love Forever (book 1) in the New Vampire Justice series. It was hurt/comfort on steroids but I still dug it because the characters were so interesting and the I love the world that Jake Wallace built. I was fairly frustrated with Max (understandably and expected) and felt sorry for Justin but their long road to HEA was a satisfying journey nonetheless. Wow. This was awful. The BDSM was something I wouldn't have expected from reading the first book and it wasn't even BDSM. It was gratuitous rape and torture for no reason. I don't have a problem with books that have a BDSM theme. It's not my first choice when reading a book, but it's something that can be very interesting when written correctly. There wasn't a purpose for it other than for shock. This entire book made no sense whatsoever. The writing flowed fine and was easy to read but the plot Wow. This was awful. The author has created a fascinating world and pretty much thrown out most vampire lore. These vampires look exactly like humans except for the elongated canines that are in constant appearance, and the fact they need to supplement their diet with blood. The majority of vampires have never bitten a human, find the idea repulsive, and drink synthetic blood. There is no super strength, faster than a bullet reflexes, yadda, yadda, yadda. Oh, and these vampires are considered third-class citizens with little to no rights. Justin broke my heart when I first heard about him in Carson and Lincoln's book, and when he appeared in his catatonic state clutching Max as a lifeline I ached with pain for this young man. It's been five months since then and recently Justin feels like he's going insane. He has these crazy memories of being tied down and inflicted with pain that becomes pleasure, but what kind of a sick freak does that make him? In a rash effort to get over his hurt when he believes Max will never see him as anything but a responsibility, Justin inadvertently puts himself right back into the hands of his torturers. Max, Lincoln, and the team are stunned when they find Justin and the physical shape he's in, plus having returned to his catatonic state. Having come to this club with Caden, Carson's little brother who has now disappeared, the NVJ is going to do everything they can to find out who is behind this and possibly behind the disappearance of five humans from the bite club in the past year. Something tells them that Justin might just have the answers they need trapped within his mind. The surprises continue to pile up, some right at their door, before Lincoln, Max, Doc, and the team realize there is something so incredible going on that, if discovered, it would start an all-out war between humans and vampires. No. I'm not telling. I liked this book even better than the first installment. It was hard not to fall for Justin and Max, and want the NVJ to win this latest battle against evil. 'A Chance for Us' was a little less action-packed than the first book, but the scientific mystery/thriller portion was top-notch. The author has left me knowing the war between humans and vampires is now inevitable and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series! What we learned from the last book is that this world has both vampires and humans, but humans are on top of the heap, vampires are second class citizens. Vampires aren’t much different except for the need to drink blood. Now they drink synthetic blood, and feeding from humans in illegal with the exception of “bite clubs”. There are a few special types of vampires, that have some extra abilities, but those are few and far between. The New Vampire League is the law enforcement agency that polices vampires, there is also the equivalent agency for humans. In the last book, there was a big to-do involving a bad guy, trying to force Carson, one of the very very special vampires to do bad things, and rule the world… one of the victims of this plot was Justin, Carson’s boyfriend back in his teens. Justin ended up with his mind stripped and spent seven years somewhere… He’s since been rescued and is living with the NVJ, under the care of Max, one of the officers that rescued him. Justin has regained some of his mind and memory, but is still a bit fuzzy on details, and has some issues. So we know that Justin is gay, and Max is straight, having had a wife that died of cancer. But the two are becoming closer, and that closeness is fully developed in this book. With an added BDSM element. Justin has been feeling the need for something more, it turns out what he is looking for is pain. Max eventually discovers that need and makes the choice to pursue a sexual relationship with Justin. While this personal drama is happening, the members of the NVJ are searching for some human men that have gone missing… this leads them to a bite club/BDSM club. This is a very complex story, basically it turns in to a sort of human trafficking storyline, with some vampire business, and ties to old things from book one. With some kidnapping, torture, and BDSM thrown in. Justin and Max are deep in the middle of it all, as well as Lincoln and Carson from the first book. There is also a storyline involving a character from the first book, his boyfriend who is in a coma, and a pregnant woman. Just to make things more fun! Now I liked this book, but I had some issues with the plot. These guys are cops, but they make some stupid mistakes that I had a hard time accepting. Dammit. I can’t figure out how to say what my issues are without giving anything away! There were obvious things, characters doing things that I could see being off, from a mile away. There wasn’t any big surprise or mystery for me, I could see what was happening, who the bad people were and how this was going to be resolved. Things were too obvious. Yes, there were a few details that surprised me, but really not much. Something would happen and I would think “Oh, that’s going to matter later”, and sure enough, it would. I had several moments of thinking “Why would a cop do that??”, then of course, it turned out to be a stupid mistake. I also had issues with Max and Justin. I liked them as characters and as a couple, but Max, who had never had any interest in men, jumped in to a sexual and kinky relationship way too fast with Justin, in my opinion. I expected some… hesitancy, some thought, some angst maybe, about what he was doing. He goes from straight and vanilla, to pinching Justin’s nipples and yanking on his balls with no hesitancy, no build up. I liked them before they got together, and I liked them after they got together, but their first experience together was very hard for me to accept. But I did like this one, I liked the overall plot, even though I had issues with how things happened. I liked Justin and Max, I just didn’t like how fast their sexual relationship came about. I liked the bits with Doc and Tommy, and I’m going to guess they’ll get a book soon. I love this world and all of the details. I like that it is our world, but not quite… I loved the ending, it wasn’t exactly a cliffhanger since this storyline is resolved, but it left me soooo wanting to know what happens next! I can see big drama in the future for these people! This author is new for me, I’ve just read these two books, and overall I liked them both. I would absolutely recommend the first book in this series if you are a vampire fan, and I’d recommend this one as part of the series. It’s not a standalone novel, you need to know what came before. I would have rated this one higher, but I just had issues with how the plot worked, but I still like the series and I look forward to the next one! Secondly, if it has been two years (and it had been for me) since you read the first installment, I would recommend a reread as it took me a few chapters to recall a lot of what had previously occurred, which, in turn, helped make sense of what I was reading in the sequel. There are a ton of familiar faces in this book, and it literally picks up where the last left off, and it is so good—oh yes, it is! For those who recall the first story, you will remember that Justin was once in love with Carson, who was forced to bite him, sending him into a seven year long coma from which he has just awoken. Since that time, Carson has met and fallen in love with the head of the New Vampire Justice branch in New York, Lincoln Samuels. Both Carson and Lincoln are vampires of different sorts and have special powers, as such. But this story focuses on the newly awakened Justin and the NJV cop he is currently housed with–his friend and protector, Max Kincaid. While Max doesn’t quite understand his intense feelings for Justin, he does know that no one has touched him quite as much since the death of his wife several years before. Max is straight and so he dismisses his feelings as those likened to a big brother feel for Justin. Justin, on the other hand, grapples with the fact that he is slowly but surely falling in love with Max. If that were not enough entanglement, Justin is also gripped by a stunningly visceral need to be controlled sexually by pain and dominance. He wants–no, needs–to feel that pain in order to orgasm, and he begins to fear for his own sanity and control when the need for such arousal begins to be the only thing other than Max’s presence that can calm the tangled web of fear and confusion in his mind. When Max goes out on a date, an upset Justin decides to take matters into his own hands and visit a highly select and secret brothel that caters to vampires and BDSM. Unfortunately for Justin, he doesn’t realize until too late that he has actually delivered himself right into the hands of a sinister web of slave like control via sexual abuse that has held him captive before. Now Max and company are in a race to find Justin, plus others who have disappeared, from the same club before Justin’s mind and control are utterly destroyed. Along the way, Max will realize his feelings for Justin are much more than a brotherly love—now, if he can find the young man and finally let him know just what that means for them both. I am going to be upfront here and tell you that what I just wrote above was a terrible synopsis of an utterly fantastic novel! While it is admittedly dark and deals with abuse via sexual torture, brain washing and pain, this story was incredibly detailed and absolutely captivating. Not only did I fall in love with both Justin and Max, my appreciation for this network of vampire cops grew exponentially with each chapter. This was an intricately woven mystery complete with the most evil bad guys to ever grace a novel. I couldn’t put this one down—it seemed as though every few chapters another horrifying situation would arise, and once more someone would be pulled back from utter destruction. Not only that but it tied up so many loose ends from the first novel that it was so very satisfying to read–how some survived and managed to find happiness despite the hell they had gone through was just amazing. With this latest installment, author Jake C. Wallace has established himself as a writing force to be contended with, and then some. Intense, fast paced, action driven and a bit of romance to boot are all phrases that best describe this wonderful novel. I highly recommend it to you. Book & Author: A Chance for Us by Jake C. Wallace Rating: 5 Stars I could not put this book down! Since I read my first Jake C. Wallace I have been hooked to his style of writing and creative, intense, exciting, sexy, hot, freaking awesome stories! He is able to create this connection not only between his characters but with the reader in the way he wraps us into the world he has created and the journey he takes you on while crafting a love story that is equally full of heart and suspense. This is book two of the New Vampire series which gives us the story of Max and Justin. We met these two guys in book one, Dare to Love Forever, when Max helped rescue Justin from the bad guy along with the rest of NVJ. This is NOT a standalone story!! There is an overarching storyline that continues in this book about the vampire and human relations along with the bad guy from the first story. Another fantastic thing that Jake is able to do is create a good mystery in this story of who is the mastermind behind all the human kidnappings! Even the small amount of Justin we got from book one I was beyond impatient for his story. Justin was bitten, by force, years ago by his now ex-boyfriend Carson and the bite of a Tabula Rosa vampire puts anyone bitten into a catatonic state, one where the body is alive but it’s just a shell or so they thought. Justin has no idea what happened to him while he was catatonic for 7 years from the bite but he knows something is wrong because he feels like he can’t keep it together. All he knows now is that Max makes him feel safe and after months of living as roommates Justin knows he has fallen for the vampire and now he wants to get better to ensure that Max won’t get rid of him for being a burden. But things aren’t that easy and Justin has to work hard to work past everything that has happened to him once the memories flood back in. My heart broke for this man. He had been through so much and just wanted to be normal and try to earn the love of a straight man who made him feel safe and wanted. The evolution of Justin through out this story was difficult to watch at times but wonderful to see. He holds a special place in my heart for his strength in character and his determination. Max had been through a terrible loss in this life and was struggling to get back out there afterwards. He loved having Justin as his roommate, hanging out with him watching movies and talking but he knew life couldn’t stop just because of his loss. Forcing himself to go on date with a woman wasn’t so hard but leaving Justin out of mind wasn’t as easy. And the date came with a realization that he never saw coming but before he can really let that settle Justin is hurt and he runs to his rescue once again. But can he get his Justin back this time? Will he ever be able to tell him how he feels about him? Max has this tough guy attitude that makes you think he is ten feet tall and steel to his core but with Justin he is just a sweet romantic caring guy. But one that knows that he can and will give Justin what he needs. And boy oh boy was that hot! We get a host of secondary characters just like in book one. We have all the NVJ officers, some new and some old, of course we get to see Lincoln and Carson from book one and learn more about what is going on with Carson’s powers, Tommy and Doc and although Tommy is still very much hurt Jake delivers a touching, sweet side part of this story that makes it so I can’t wait for Jake to give us their story! It seems like there is a lot going on but the story is well ordered with the right pace set from page one that I never felt like is too much or too slow. Another 5 stars from me to Jake C. Wallace for another fantastic creative new story! *I received a copy of this book through http://diversereader.blogspot.com/*

Dare to love was an amazing book which is book one in the New Vampire Justice series. I really wondered just how Hake was going to be able to make book two, A chance for us, better and if it was even possible to do so. Well I am here to say that it is definitely possible and Jake accomplished that and then some in my opinion. Book one was amazing but book two was out of this world. This series has definitely sucked me in and makes me anxious with anticipation for the next book to come out. Well I am here to say that it is definitely possible and Jake accomplished that and then some in my opinion. Book one was amazing but book two was out of this world. This series has definitely sucked me in and makes me anxious with anticipation for the next book to come out. Just in the past year I have gotten into reading vampire, paranormal, and shifter books and this series has definitely made its way up there to one of my favorite top two in this category. one if the things I love about this series is each book may revolve around two or so characters but it also revolves around the previous characters in book one also. So not only are we learning about the love that two men in each book so far but Jake has made sure to include all the characters of the previous book and has made it a continuation of what happened in the previous book also. In my opinion that makes a series so much more interesting because we learn so much more about all the characters in a series and we get to see so many different sides of them. It is almost like watching a series on TV and with each series we are left with a cliffhanger that makes us want to tune in to the next one to see what is going to happen next. This book primarily focuses on Max and Justin. In book one my heart broke for Justin because of the fate that he endured. When he awoke from his slumber in book one I hoped that he would be able to get a chance at a normal life after what he went through. With this book Jake delves further into what Justin suffered. The unimaginable things that was done to him and to others broke my heart even more. Justin is so much stronger then I think he even realizes because the things that he endured would have broken a normal person but Justin refuses to let it rule his life and to continue to be a victim. That is such an admirable trait. I found myself routing for him and hoping that he would get what he truly wanted which was Max. Max made Justin feel safe when he did not think he ever would again. Max started out thinking of Justin as a ward to help but without him realizing it his feelings started to change and he did not know what to do about it, especially since he has always been straight. The more Max tried to ignore his feelings the more Justin became more to him. The only thing that stands in their way is Justin is still in grave danger and the enemy is not wbout to give him up. Max may not ever get the chance to tell Justin just how he feels if the enemy gets their hands on Justin again. And the longer he waits the more time is starting to run out for more then just Justine and Max. It is running out for everyone involved in trying to solve this crazy case. Jake left this book with a crazy cliffhanger and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book to find out what is going to happen next. This is definitely a series that I believe that readers should read because it is one of those series that grabs ahold of you and won't let go. I know has done that to me. Was given this galley copy for free for an open and honest review

A Chance for Us is book two of the New Vampire Justice series. It is Max and Justin's story. If you read book one you having been waiting for this as much as I have. And if you like Vampires you will love it. Justin had been missing ever since Carson bit him when they were teenagers. He was found in a catatonic state when The NVJ took down the evil Vampire Merrick that was kidnapping vampires and stealing their powers. He had slowly started waking up and latched onto Max as a safety net. Now Justin is having anxiety issues and panic attacks, and only Max can calm him. Max is confused by his feelings for Justin. The longer they are together, the more his feelings grow and confuse him. He is straight or at least until he met Justin. Now he has feelings he isn't sure why. The NVJ is investigating the case of 5 missing humans from a bite club along with trying to locate the rest of the kidnapped vampires from Merricks case. What they find is quite disturbing. (Warning: This book has bondage, S&M, Torture, Noncon or at the least Dubious consent. If any of this bothers you, this isn't the book for you. ) I have been waiting for this story since I read the first on and wasn't disappointed. WE meet new characters and get stories from a few of the old ones such as Doc and Tommy and more of Lincoln and Carson and Caden along with the main story of Justin and Max. Surprisingly all of these storylines fit in smoothly with the plot and don't make the story cluttered or confusing. As I mentioned in the warning, there is some torture and other acts of violence that Justin remembers as he has flashbacks and stuff. There is explicit sex as well some containing bondage and S&M as Justin learns to deal with his need for pain. I think the author did an excellent job of fitting this in without turning the story into porn. But if this kind of thing bothers you, this may not be for you. Now for the plot. There is a lot going on with the cases, and the bite clubs. The story kept me breathlessly at times and biting my nails at others. You need to block off sometimes because you won't want to put it down once you start. And when I got to the end...What the heck? Jake, you can't do this to me! Hurry with the next book darn it! If you like vampires that don't sparkle, Men(vampires) in uniform, violence, engaging characters, page turners and, erotic sex, This is for you. I can't wait for the next one!

4 stars! You will definitely need to read book 1 Dare to Love Forever, before reading this second installment. A Chance For Us is a great sequel to Dare . The story flows well and I couldn’t help but feel for both MC’s ( Justin and Max). They both endured very difficult lives. No Spoilers As much as I enjoyed both of these books ( the world is phenomenal) I struggled with quite a few things within the storyline. It was too much of a "reach" for me. I also had a hard time with this particular GFY angle because of how the intimate scenes unfolded between Max and Justin. Yes, we live in the world of the internet but Max took to sex with a man like a fish to water which in my opinion screams bisexuality to me. My other issue is, of course, the dreaded cliffhanger . I am NOT a patient girl LOL! I have to know like yesterday what happens next! Cliffhangers leave me feeling bereft and frustrated so I tend to avoid them until the follow-up book is out or until the series is complete. Hey, I’m a jerk, sue me ;) Despite the sloppy detective work and GFY misnomer, the overall story and world kicked ass! it's pretty obvious Wallace put a lot of care, time and thought in creating his vampires and the universe they live in. This is a wonderful vampire series and I urge you to read this if you love paranormals as much as I do. Can’t wait for book 3!

The Blogger Girls The continuation of the New Vampire Justice series gives us a healthy of dose of both our new protagonists: Justin and Max, as well as the couple from book one: Carson and Lincoln. This story will be almost impossible to review without giving anything away so bear with me while I speak in tongues and go in circles. Don’t hate on me, it’s the author who took me for this roller coaster ride, and you will just have to read it for yourself to fill in the blanks. But, trust me when I say that is not a punishment but merely a couple of days of reading enjoyment. There are many story-lines in this book, but they are all interconnected and make sense to the plot. We have the budding relationship between newly-awakened Justin and his hero, and straight (soon to realize he’s Bi) NVJ officer, Max. Then the repercussions of the horrific act that ruined the relationship of Justin and Carson and how they are trying to rebuild a new friendship. And finally, there is more to Justin and his coma and that is what really threw me for a loop. That is part of this mystery that grabbed me the most. So much I can’t say, and I’m sorry, but any words that leave my lips will be a spoiler and that just can’t happen. So do yourself a favor and read this book…just be sure to read book one first. This is in no way a stand alone, and they must be read in order. You will be intrigued and I guarantee you will love these guys and their stories.

The first half of this was great - I was enjoying getting the story of Justin. After that it was slightly confusing - and I never really felt like I got the answers I needed as to what happened to Justin for 7 years. I felt like the parts where Justin went through what happened were completely different than everything else that was happening and not a part of it - which felt weird. (view spoiler)[ You've got a mystery about humans and vampires and the human trafficking which is more police procedural/detective feeling and then the heavy non con things that happened to Justin and even though they are part of the whole plot they felt distinct to me -- like a separate book almost. Then when Max all the sudden gives Justin pain that just felt weird. You go from het to gay AND a sadist? I needed to see a different progression and more than just getting hard at a BDSM type club (hide spoiler)] Overall I wanted to love it - and I certainly enjoyed pieces of it (esp what happened to Justin because it made me really feel for his character in more ways than one!) but it was just too "busy" w/o some clear parameters and too many other people were in the story with "stories" and it didn't work well for me as I had wished.

This is a book that will elicit strong emotions I think. For me it was very hard to get through. While I understood that Justin’s pathology led him to link pain to sex it was hard to read his lover doing these things to him. It just never sits well with me, though I KNOW that perfectly “sane” people also mix pain and sex on a regular basis. It’s just really not my thing. It seemed that every other page was discussing or dealing with the pain and torture Justin had endured and it was frankly too much for my tastes. The writing is just as good as it was in Book 1 and it was great seeing Lincoln and Carson again. There is even MORE angst in this (if that’s possible) than in book one and more drama. I think anyone not as sensitive to this subject as me will find this book to be a fantastic sequel to book one. For those of you who shy away from BDSM type stuff, I’d recommend avoiding this as well. I’ll give this 3.5 of 5 stars because the world building and writing is still stellar, but it’s just not my cup of tea.

This story is a lot darker than the first as it includes elements of physical and mental abuse, torture and BDSM, which I wasn't expecting. I still love all the characters and was happy with the way the storyline picked up where book one, Dare to Love Forever, left off. I really enjoyed the first book and was looking forward to this one, but unfortunately I am stopping at just 15%. It just got to the part of Justin with the pain/sex parts, and while it was in the blurb, that type of story is just not for me.
