This is quite possibly the MOST AWESOME crochet book EVER! The pages are divided like one of those children's flip books. There is one basic head and body, with 30 different horns and ears, 30 different pairs of arms, and 30 different legs and feet. You design your own monster, and the combinations are endless. Pick your head, pick your arms, pick your nose (I won't tell), and crochet your own unique creature. This guy's pretty cool: And I like the feminine frills sported by this lovely monster: But, it's hard to top your basic sea creature: I have no clue what I'm going to make first, but this book should keep me busy for the rest of my life.

I liked the idea of this book, a make your own monster type. It is seriously unique and it makes it fun to choose what you are going to crochet. It is like a beginner toy designer pattern book. I had great fun making all the pieces, and having the basic body/head be all one piece was definitely nice. But I was just not that thrilled with how my monster turned out, maybe my designer skills are lacking and I picked poor options and disappointing colours. I will try it again some day and see if I h I liked the idea of this book, a make your own monster type. It is seriously unique and it makes it fun to choose what you are going to crochet. Okay, so this just came in the mail today after winning it through a Goodreads Giveaway. And it is the COOLEST FREAKING PATTERN BOOK OF ALL TIME EVER!!! I’ve actually been looking for a book to learn to make toys for all of my kids, nieces, nephews, and non-blood family. When I won’t this, I didn’t realize JUST how flippin’ awesome it was going to be, and I am so happy that I won it! So many different monsters, so little time! I’ll be showing my results on https://www.platypire.com/bob through th Okay, so this just came in the mail today after winning it through a Goodreads Giveaway. I pre-ordered this book as soon as I found out about it. I have always loved the books and toys that let you recombine heads, feet, and middles into new creatures or people. I loved the idea of doing that with crocheted monsters. Mostly it works. There are a few basic body part patterns which are then modified somewhat to create different looks which can be mixed and matched. They do tend to push using their own yarns a little too. Overall, great fun.

Disappointing. The patterns are incomplete; a beginner would be lost in what should be very simplistic patterns. More body shapes would be good. Many of those in the "inspirations" section aren't even possible by solely following the book. As a librarian, I can see how quickly and easily this book would become damaged and missing pages. Great book with fun patterns, however, the beginning of the book (and "how to use it") is in the back (pg 86!)...start there and have fun. Great book with fun patterns, however, the beginning of the book (and "how to use it") is in the back (pg 86!)...start there and have fun.

Not a book to read really but by far and away my favourite crochet book. If you're a fellow crocheter I highly recommend this. Not a book to read really but by far and away my favourite crochet book. If you're a fellow crocheter I highly recommend this.
