Katie has her own bakery which used to be a dream come true, but with her boyfriend's nagging about business opportunities and expansions it doesn't feel like the happy place it used to be any more. She doesn't like Steve the way he is now and things at home keep getting more tense. He wants to help her with her business, but that means she will depend on him financially, is that really what she wants? When Adam enters her shop to buy a cake for his grandmother something inside her changes. The same goes for his wonderful daughter, who can't stop talking about Katie's beautiful princess cake. Adam is a single dad and is struggling to find love again after his divorce. Will Katie and Adam find happiness again or do they have to learn to be happy with what's available instead of what they really want? A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love is a sweet story. Katie makes the most beautiful cakes. She's talented, creative and unbelievably kind. Too kind to stand up for herself when she needs to. Steve isn't the kind and cheerful guy he used to be and his career is his number one goal in life. For Katie it's being happy and content while she's surrounded by the people she loves. She doesn't care about making a lot of money as long as she does what she likes. I loved that about her. Adam is just as caring and loving as Katie. I liked that Linn B Halton told her story from both angles. It was great to find out more about their lives. A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love is a fun read. What I liked best about it is that the story made me feel something. I wanted to shout and stand up for both of these amazing people from time to time and the story felt so real. I think most people would have acted like Adam and Katie did in this story in real life. Last, but not least, the tiny spark of magic made the story complete for me.

I received a copy of this via NetGalley in return for a fair and honest review. This was a deliciously sweet and enjoyable romance that had me captivated from beginning to end! This was a deliciously sweet and enjoyable romance that had me captivated from beginning to end! The story is told from a number of different perspectives which is always a good thing, as you're able to see different sides of the story but the main viewpoints are from Katie and Adams' perspective and how their lives have not turned out quite as they planned. Katie is the owner of Sweet Occasions and lives for baking wonderful cake creations but when sales aren't going so well her other half, Steve, is there to push her business onto a different path from what she feels comfortable with. They've been together for so long and through a few struggles so it's interesting to see how the relationship changes when they mix business with pleasure. And the story of Adam is just as interesting as he works long hours, and lives to provide for his daughter Lily after he split with Lilys mum, and also caring for his sweet Gran Grace who has been part of his life for so long after the death of his mother. His work keeps him travelling long distances and he often feels he isn't there enough for either of them This story is full of such lovely, warm characters that you can't help but fall in love with them all and it was a pleasure to laugh and cry along with them all as the story unfolded!

Its very rare a book captivates me from the beginning, and this did just that. From the moment a stranger named Adam arrives dripping wet at Katie's Bakery 'Sweet Occasions' i was hooked, i just wanted to keep going and going to see how this would pan out. I loved how Linn sectioned the story out by telling it from different people's angles, and how the story was spread over two and a half years. This just added to the greatness of the story. Having read a few of Linn B Halton's books in the last year, I feel very confident in saying that A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love is her best yet. It is such a sweet, touching and loving romantic story, told from various perspectives. At times I was getting very frustrated with Katie, but I was living in hope that he situation would change. Having just read a bucket load of Christmas books, I was marginally worried about the mention of two Christmases in the blurb, but I needn't have been. The book is not a festive story, more a book of very distinct passing of time, using special cake orders for Christmas and birthdays as a very useful mechanism. The cakes in question are truly magnificent, and all the cakes in the Sweet Occasions bakery sound scrumptious. I believe this is probably what is known as a slow burner romance, you get the feeling that two characters are destined for each other, but a lot of story gets in between that happening, and in this case the story is enjoyable to read. I loved the various chapter headings which told you which character's point of view that chapter was going to be from, as well a overall theme for the chapter. If you are reading this over a period of time, I think this would really help you out. All the characters have distinct voices, and I was finding myself loving Adam and Lily a whole lot more than Katie and Steve. I did like Katie, but since the reader was able to see their relationship , from the outsiders point of view, I couldn't help but wonder why on earth she was still with Steve. He goes from one minute wanting Katie to stop working at Sweet Occasions (her dream bakery), to practically becoming a partner in the business. I just couldn't help but feel a sense of doom at some of their decisions. Grace, Adam's grandma was enchanting, and although spirits, ghosts and me, don't normally get along, I had no problem at all with Grace's beliefs that she was able to see dead family members and able to have conversations with them, It all came across so naturally, and I have to believe that it was a real comfort to Grace. A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love was a fabulous way to spend a winters evening, and I found myself hooked on what was happening between the pages. Thanks so much to Linn B Halton for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.

She is a skilled cake maker and specialises in amazing celebration cakes and delicious cupcakes. Katie and her partner, Steve, have been through a rough patch and Steve’s brush with death has changed him, their relationship is still on shaky ground. When Katie finds herself struggling to keep Sweet Occasions afloat, Steve comes to what he believes is the rescue with a business plan, taking the shop in a completely different, and not altogether welcome, direction. Katie is not motivated by money, enjoys being her own boss, loves her bakery and what she is doing. As long as she can make ends meet she’s happy. Katie begins to question what it is she actually wants and the direction her life is taking. When a cold and wet refugee from the storm comes into the shop one day, Katie takes pity on him and offers dry clothes and food. He buys a Christmas cake for his grandmother which begins a couple of years of visits for special occasion cakes. Although each feel an attraction to the other neither believes it will lead anywhere even though there is a developing friendship. Told mostly from the perspectives of the two main protagonists, whose stories invite you into their lives to share the highs and lows, thoughts and feelings, while getting to know and like them as the layers of their personalities are revealed. Two caring, thoughtful people trying to change their lives to bring in more happiness. The secondary characters have depth and are well-formed. Grace is fabulous, I love her strength and compassion, and the way the paranormal is incorporated. The story deals with life issues, not least learning that guilt and a feeling of obligation is not a good basis for a relationship. The results of a life threatening illness on that relationship, and the difficulties and loneliness of being a single dad after the end of a marriage, are also explored sympathetically. The writing has the warmth, emotion and feel good factor I’ve come to expect from Linn Halton. A very enjoyable, deliciously warm read.

I really liked that A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love is set over a longer period of time. There is a lot happening for Katie and it was fun to dive into her life with her for a year. I watched her struggle, grow, question, and love. Nothing about this could have been rushed. The pace of A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love is perfect. She introduces characters to us this way and I could feel so much more for these characters through their words. Katie and Adam are both going through a lot in their lives, and the time for a new romance is not right when A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love starts. But as they progress through a year, they both grow and change...and maybe a little time is all they need before they move on to the next step. Katie is a strong heroine, although a bit frustrating at times. The relationship she is in at the start of the book left me shaking my head at times. Katie grows and strengthens significantly though and became someone I really wanted to see things work out for. I really liked Adam. He has his priorities and is sticking to them, but at the same time isn't locked in one place. He is struggling too...but walking into Katie's cake shop might end up being the best thing that happened to him. The secondary characters all add strength and feeling to the plot. I especially loved Adam's Grandma. A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love made me feel a variety of emotions - hopeful, frustrated, sad, and happy. It was a really good read with memorable characters in realistic situations. The writing flow was smooth, and easy to read. I'd recommend A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love to any romance reader. I received a free copy for an honest review.

The Adam and Katie we meet at the beginning of this book are clearly not ready for a relationship together... but what happens when small changes are made? With the book alternating between Adam and Katies point of view (and the occasional chapter from other characters POV's) we get a really good look inside their heads. But still, I was pulling at my hair and urging Katie to please walk away from her oh so manipulative boyfriend. I imagine it must be quite hard to just walk away from someone who has been through such a traumatic event, but I'm pretty sure Steve knows this and is using it against her... although we do get a glimpse into Steves head and he may not even realise he is doing this. Doesn't excuse him though, and it didn't affect the opinion I already have of him. Adam is the caring father and grandson, but he just seems so lost. It's as though he has lost himself. Since the break up of his marriage he has devoted his life to his daughter, working only in the week when she isn't with him. And when he does finally realise that there needs to be more to life, he unfortunately looks in the wrong places. He knows where he wants to look but cant quite bring himself to take that step. Halton has once again given us a book so beautifully written, where emotion is woven between the words in this book, that on more than one occasion I was brought to tears.

One day he runs in one small bakery, and the owner saves his life with one pink shirt and one Christmas cake. Is it means that he will make her grandma happy and bring some woman home soon or not? This book takes my whole attention from the very beginning until the end. I enjoy in every single page I’ve turned. The story is unique and told from every character who I met there. Everyone: Katie, Adam, Grace even Steve says their part of the story in the first person. Which is mean unique, isn’t it? I like when the story is told in the first person it means more intimacy for me, seems like I knew the main characters. The story goes without any distractions or interruptions fluently till the end. I like how the author describes all situations with the characters and their interactions and every one of them tells the story from their angle. Katie is the sweetest woman that I recently met in the fiction world. I like how she helps to the people, without hesitation and despite she knows that she is right about something she torture herself and blame herself not the other person. I was mad reading about her position in few situations at the beginning of the book. Adam is a great man, a good father and he was a good husband too, but to the wrong person. He gives everything that is in his power to raise his daughter and to make his old grandmother happy. I like his point of view, and I like him so much. Grace is a good old lady with a lot of losses in her life but still stand bravely till the end for her grandson Adam and her grand granddaughter Lilly. Steve is a story for his self, I won’t waste time to describe him, and just I will tell that I don’t like him at all. Even I hate him like a character still the author makes me read his point of view and enjoy the whole book at all. I recommend this book for romance lovers because it is sweet and enjoyable from the beginning until the end. This book was provided by JB from Brock Cottage Books as part of the book tour. My rating 5/5(amazing)

A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love by Linn B. Halton is a well-conceived story with an interesting plot and characters. The book was originally published in the summer of 2014, and Choc Lit edited and revised it for 2016. Due to the positive feedback surrounding the book's first release, I decided to read it. With the exception of a little lull a chapter or two before the ending, this book kept me entertained and engrossed from beginning to end. The story opens with a bang, which immediately pulled me into the lives of Katie, a fantastic baker, and Adam, an IT consultant. Primarily, each chapter is told from either Katie or Adam's point of view, however, Katie's partner Steve, Adams's grandmother Grace, and even Lily, Adam's cute as a button eight year old daughter, are each given their own voice, which I found to be quite fascinating. Katie owns and runs Sweet Occasions, the town's local bakery. Her passion to create new flavors and cake designs is evident in everything she sells. She doesn't make a ton of money, which causes her to worry a lot, but she is living her dream. Eventually, her long-term boyfriend Steve, a successful business consultant, convinces her to grow the business. As a result, she is making more money, but the homey feeling the bakery once represented is no longer evident. Overtime, she and Steve drift a part and their only daily connection is the bakery. Adam is a single dad with shared custody. So on his off weeks, he travels constantly from one job to another. Lily and Grace give him amazing joy, but he needs a woman in his life. Grace and her late husband raised him, so speaking with Grace regularly and visiting with her whenever Adam's schedule allows is a priority. Meeting Katie en-route to his grandmother's house evokes a spark that he has not felt for a long time. I really enjoyed this story and the author's way with words. Ms. Halton is a passionate writer, which enabled me to experience each character's true essence and personality. I even caught a glimpse of family members that were no longer living. My hunger pangs were on overdrive with each mention of a cake or cupcake concoction. All the characters were well thought-out and had a unique sense of self. Overall, this is a nicely written book with a captivating plot, and an ending that will leave you smiling from ear to ear. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

After all that happened Katie is now coming to terms with the idea that maybe having the determination to make something work isn't always enough. When Adam shows up in her bakery soaked by the rain and nearly heading for hypothermia Katie makes sure he has something to eat and she makes him a warm drink. Adam is a single father whose life is totally built around his little girl Lily. He's feeling very guilty over the fact that he couldn't make his marriage work. Now he's doing everything he can to be the best father ever. His grandmother Grace is the only other relative he has left and he loves her very much. Since his mother died when Adam was ten his grandmother and grandfather raised him. Sometimes love happens instantly and sometimes it does take a whole lot of casual meetings to make people finally give in to what was there all along. This very sweet and loving story really warmed my heart. Katie is such a sweetheart who didn't deserve what she was getting out of her relationship with Steve. I thought of her as a people pleaser and that is why she got dragged into things that took her farther away from her original dream. Adam is every woman's dream. He is handsome, a good father, warm, kind and respectful. Reading about how he looked after his grandmother warmed my heart. In some ways he came across as a pushover, so I was cheering out loud when he manned up. Grace made me laugh. Everyone should have a sweet and feisty grandmother like her. She lays it out just like it is and I loved that about her. Her meddling in the end was all it took to give Fate a little shove in the right direction. Linn B. Halton can really make you feel the emotions of her characters. Because of that I was drawn into A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love immediately. When I read a book I want to feel what I read about. She did that for me and so much more... For all romance lovers out there, this is a story you shouldn't miss.

The cover alone is bound to attract readers in their droves and quite rightly so! Katie the main character in this book is living the dream - owning and running her own bakery Sweet Occasions! Things both business wise and relationship wise aren't exactly plain sailing - despite outward appearances. From the very first chapter I loved Katie, her kind heart and compassion literally poured from the page when meeting a more than a little wet Adam who is wanting a christmas cake to take to his grandmother. Over the course of the book we get to learn about both Katie and Adam's relationships and family. Told from both the main characters perspective I couldn't help but be drawn into their lives. Both Katie and Adam living lives not totally fulfilled yet at the same time both incredibly strong, considerate, compassionate people - always putting others before their own happiness. Linn gradually peals away the many layers to their characters and with each one I'm hooked a bit more. This isn't a straightforward romance/contemporary novel but one with depth to not only the main characters but the supporting cast too. I really cared what happened to them in a way that is only possible when a character is gradually introduced - love, loyalty, friendship, confidence and trust are tackled head on. I think we can all be a bit guilty of heading down a path thinking we know what's best but often not seeing the wood for the trees. It's difficult to let someone else take control of a part of our lives but distance often allows impartiality. I lost myself in this book, often willing the characters to open their eyes and just see the relationships developing around them - not in frustration but like an anxious mother watching their children grow. I highly recommend this book - thank you Linn for giving me a slice of escapism

This story was the first (predominantly) Romance novel I have read in a long time, and it stopped my slump by bringing the characters to life and showing the problems of relationships and life as an adult. As I began this book, I wasn't sure if I would get into it as much as I do with fantasy or adventure books. But within a few pages, I was visibly smiling at the situation that was going on. Living in England, I can perfectly understand what Adam was going through with being soaked in rain! Sometimes the writing/storyline of Romance novels doesn't grab me quick enough, causing me to abandon it for a while, but this book was an exception! The writing of the story was good, and each of the characters was written well and had interesting personalities. The changing point of view in the book was well used, as although it primarily focused on Adam and Katie's point of view, we also got the opportunity to look into other character's views on the main character's lives/decisions. There were surprising elements as well. Adam's grandfather Jack had passed away, but his grandmother still saw/spoke to Jack as a ghost. I thought this was a sweet idea to include, showing that family members stay to look over you even when they are gone. Each character was written well into the story. Helping Adam and Katie realise their need to be together. It was a frustrating book to read, mainly as you knew the situation of both Katie and Adam's lives, and knew that they 1. liked each other, and 2. could actually be together, but because both assumed otherwise, it was definitely a good type of frustration! Other than that, I really enjoyed this book, it's definitely inspired me to pick up more Romance novels when I'm out book shopping! I would recommend this book to all those who enjoy Romance novels, and those who want to get into it more! I would rate this a 4/5 *I received a copy of this through NetGalley in return for a fair and honest review*

Firstly I’d like to thank the author for sending me this eBook to read and share my honest review. I’m a big fan of Linn’s writing so I couldn’t wait to get stuck in. You can read my reviews of Linn’s previous books on my blog. An intriguing start pulled me into the storyline quickly, I was curious about the mysterious, dripping wet stranger and wanted to know more. I was also keen to find out more about Katie’s business which sounded yummy, especially to someone who is currently on a diet! If you’re a regular Me, My Books and I reader you’ll know that I love to read from the male point of view, well this book ticked that box beautifully for me as I was regularly treated to Adam’s thoughts on what was going on around him. I also got to read from the perspective of a few other characters giving me an all round feeling of knowledge (something that doesn’t happen every day) and the sense that I was truly involved in their lives. The romantic tension was interesting and built up as the storyline progressed, I liked that it kept me guessing throughout. Something else I particularly enjoyed were the unexpected touching moments which highlighted the importance of family and the small things that can mean so much to a person. For me the writing style created a warm, emotional atmosphere and this made it an absolute pleasure to read. The scenes with Adam and Grace oozed that homely feeling you only get when you’re around the ones you love most in the world. While I’m on the subject of Grace, she was definitely a favourite of mine, she was such a powerful character who genuinely touched my heart with her courage and strength. The Epilogue was incredible, it actually gave me goosebumps, it just couldn’t have been more perfect for this story. A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love made me laugh, smile and cry (a lot). A fabulous addition to anyone’s library!

Katie and Adam are wonderful characters, not perfect but willing to go the extra mile for people they care about, even if it means putting their wants and needs on hold. Serendipity plays an important role in this story and if we’re honest most of us acknowledge our own lives are touched in similar ways at certain times. Grace is at the end of her life but she still puts her grandson Adam first. She worries that he only living half a life and hopes to remain on earth long enough to help him. She, as do the other characters in this flowing, poignant story, has lessons to learn. Self belief and discovery are important themes of this story, whether you believe in soul mates or a life beyond our human existence, this story is worth reading. I knew going in that A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love by Linn B Halton would be a fun but thoughtful read, I have yet to read one book published by Choco Lit that wasn’t. This was no different. It is an enchanting look at the average person’s life. There is no save the world, maybe a “save your sanity” since simply making do in life can wear a person down. There is no “instant love or lust” for that matter but a slow simmering of attraction that is stirred by a friendship made in passing. After staying up way too late to finish this book, I see my fellow man in a different way. As I go about my day I now wonder how many of the people I meet are like Katie and Adam, quietly living careful unsatisfied lives. Katie and Adam are late bloomers but it was so worth the wait. Even Grace would have to admit that since she was unable to hurry them along any faster. I loved how the reader is privy to so many different perspectives. I appreciated how all the characters including the exs and current interests are shown warts and all. I will also admit that I found A Little Sugar, A Lot of Love to have a slow start but once the plot got going, I was hooked. I am looking forward to more by this insightful author. 4.5 Stars The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.

This book is such a breath of fresh air .. a book that envelopes you in cosiness & charm. So pleasant to read & very easy to fall in love with the characters. Katie is an absolute sweetheart, her major love is her bakery business making cakes but her ‘partner’ Steve seems intent on undermining her at every turn & spoiling her visions. She has the fortune to meet Adam when he drifts into her life & she becomes his guardian angel .. it could have turned into a typical boy meets girl & passion igni This book is such a breath of fresh air .. a book that envelopes you in cosiness & charm. He is a single Dad to Lily who is his world .. let’s be honest he is a dream man! They meet infrequently, he lives 150 miles away but visits his Grandma who lives near the shop & can’t resist ordering cakes whenever he is able to. Grandma Grace has quite an influence on their lives, could she possibly provide a little ghostly magic intervention .. Lily would like to think so. I adored this, so cute & emotional. I would urge anyone to give it a go. Thanks to Linn, the publisher, Netgalley & Brook Cottage Books for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest opinion.

I really likes this because it let you get into their heads and really see what they thought about certain situations and compare that with the other characters in the scene. The book follows Adam and Katie as they realise that everything in life happens for a reason and even if you can't see it at the time. This story really tugged at the heartstrings and I found myself unable to put it down at times. The cakes also sounded amazing! I look forward to reading more of Linn's books in the future.

The characters were well developed and the secondary characters were also well developed and added depth to the story. I truly enjoyed reading this novel and recommend the realistic read.

This was a sweet romance, in more senses than one! Katie runs a cake shop and meets Adam when he calls in for a cake for his Grandma. I love this book. It is a proper old fashioned love story which takes place over two years. Adam needs a Christmas cake for his grandma Grace. He stops at a cake shop called Sweet Occasions and is instantly attracted to the owner Katie. Adam is divorced and has an eight year old daughter. He lives and works 300 miles away from his grandma and the cake shop. Katie is in a relationship that's going nowhere . I was given this book for an honest review. I loved it. It had everything I ask for in a book, great storyline, interesting characters and baking. I really felt for Katie the main character to start with but then things look up for her and I had my fingers crossed that something good would happen to her. I thought this book was fabulous, but do not read on an empty stomach as you will get very hungry with all the talk about cakes.

I received a copy of this book from Netgallay in exchange for my honest review. I simply adored this book! The main premise of the story is to follow your heart even if it takes you to places unknown. This was such a sweet story about two wonderful characters who see eachother only a few times a year but who have become smitten with eachother from their first encounter. A wonderful love story with lots of layers. I highly recommend!
