If you are serious about i Review of Copywriting: A Beginner’s Guide on how to Write Creative Copy that Sells, by James Thomson I did not buy this book. I received a free copy of the book from Story Cartel on the understanding that I would read it and review it. I do not have any other arrangement or understanding or undertaking with Story Cartel, the author of the book, the publisher of the book or any other entity that might have played a role in the writing, publishing or marketing of the book. If you are serious about improving yourself, you read. You read everything you can lay your hands on that throws light on the various aspects of your trade, because if you are serious about your craft, you are constantly seeking to hone it. However, no book is a complete encyclopedia in itself, of such a nature that it renders all other books obsolete (that just does not happen). Each book you read will usually take you just a step or two forward toward mastery of your subject. Further, not everything you read in any book is going to stay in your memory. As an author who has started to take books on trade craft very seriously, I find that you can never absorb everything you read in a book. You absorb a little bit from this book, a little bit from that. A third book reinforces what you absorbed from the first book. Then the fourth book reiterates what you picked up from the second book, driving it deeper into your memory, and also gives some other new insight. You get the idea. It is a kind of practice (reading more and more) makes perfect (absorption and ability to recall vital aspects of trade craft when needed) situation. Every now and then, though, you do come across a book that may not be a complete encyclopedia, but goes a long way toward that status. This is the kind of book you keep at hand in your library, digital or paper, because you know you are going to be referring to it often. You know it will save you the bother of having to refer to several books, a bother compounded because you cannot remember which book you read what in unless you are unusually meticulous in record keeping. Copywriting: A Beginner’s Guide on how to Write Creative Copy that Sells is such a book. This is a book that offers you its own insights and also gives you instant reminders of most of what you have learned from other books. As the title suggests, this book is all about copywriting. Yet another skill today’s authors have perforce to add to their armories. The subject is presented in a very logical, easily absorbed and conversational tone. The table of contents has a good flow, and the contents follow the table. I would suggest you get it if copywriting is going to play any role in your life at all. If so, keep it at hand.

This is a direct, well written, punchy, to the point book on copywriting. Its charm lies in its directness and a completely literal take on the topic. In straightforward and punchy prose James Thomson tells us exactly what we need to know. I was quite taken with its clarity and purpose. Follow the instructions! Highly recommended over coffee at 8 AM in front of the computer as you start your morning's work. This is a direct, well written, punchy, to the point book on copywriting.
