Availability: Ready to download

This book is a much-requested follow-up to "Brain over Binge" (2011), in which the author shared how she used a basic understanding of neuroscientific principles to overcome bulimia. In this sequel and companion volume, with the help of fellow specialists and authors Amy Johnson, Ph.D., Katherine Thomson, Ph.D., and others, Kathryn Hansen lays out those same principles—and This book is a much-requested follow-up to "Brain over Binge" (2011), in which the author shared how she used a basic understanding of neuroscientific principles to overcome bulimia. In this sequel and companion volume, with the help of fellow specialists and authors Amy Johnson, Ph.D., Katherine Thomson, Ph.D., and others, Kathryn Hansen lays out those same principles—and many more—in a self-help format that encourages and enables binge eaters to recover efficiently and effectively. Although recovery is not the same for everyone, this book posits that there are only two essential goals that must be met to end bulimia and binge eating disorder: (1) learning to dismiss urges to binge and (2) learning to eat adequately. As you work toward these goals with a streamlined focus, you will discover your own strength, develop your own insights, and put into practice ideas and behaviors that work uniquely and authentically for you. The Brain over Binge Recovery Guide is comprehensive in its length and scope, but utterly simple in its approach: You will read and use only what you need—continuing on in the book if you feel you need more information and guidance; putting it down and moving on with your life when you feel you’re ready—so that you can start living binge-free as quickly and easily as possible.

I liked this. Thought it was helpful. However I wish some of the concepts were explained a little clearer. There were just some things I almost understood, but not quite. And instead of explaining it in different ways, it was just kind of repeated. Some of the questions asked were also repetitive for the thought exercises. Again, still helpful, but I felt like I already answered the same question. Maybe that’s on purpose to really digest the information in the book. I recommend it.

After 20 years of suffering... After 20 years of suffering, I've finally found a meaningful practical way to overcome bulimia. Before I even finished the book, I knew I had the strategies in place to overcome my eating disorder for good. The plan is simple: dismiss urges to binge and eat adequately. The book provides tons of support around those two aspects with plenty of additional strategies you can use depending on what your eating disorder looks like. I already read Kathryn’s first book brain over binge. As helpful and revolutionary as I found it, i eventually reverted to my old BED pattern of life. I am so thankful this second book came as a guide and support for those of us whose recovery was different from the immediate and complete recovery experienced by the author once her “brain” realized the truth about our problem. I am thankful Kathryn didn’t keep her experience to herself and decided to help others with it, I am further thankful sh I already read Kathryn’s first book brain over binge. I am thankful Kathryn didn’t keep her experience to herself and decided to help others with it, I am further thankful she realized that recovery comes in so many ways and decided to help fellow sufferers overcome problems that might otherwise have caused them to believe they were beyond help or that this solution like so many others they had tried before is yet another one destined to fail. Thank you Kathryn

I recently determined that I suffer from binge eating disorder and had been for years. The habits described in this book were like reading an autobiography. I began implementing the ideas immediately as I was reading, and they have helped tremendously already. It’s also really helped me to understand why I do some of the things I do, and lead to further reflection on other habits. Many believe there has to be an underlying emotional cause/trauma to eating disorders; Hansen is the first self help I recently determined that I suffer from binge eating disorder and had been for years. I highly recommend this book if you have tried every diet and still feel out of control of your eating.

I don't have Binge Eating Disorder but I do think my eating is disordered some of the time and I'd like to improve it. So I picked up this book on a recommendation. It's an amazing book about the brain and behavior and so much of what she says applies to other addictive habits or problems of the mind. This is a great companion to the first book with a bigger focus on actions and suggestions for implementing the method described in the first. Many many people have had success using this method, that doesn't require traditional therapy.
