I thought I would be enthralled by these short tales of fiction writers’ travel experiences. Instead I was disappointed. Not all but most of the authors veiled their experiences with words and introspections aimed at shaping the stories into pieces with a point, a conclusion, a lesson learned. I had hoped for more immediacy but the essays were almost all nostalgic and slightly dead in the rendering. I had hoped for more immediacy but the essays were almost all nostalgic and slightly dead in the rendering. There were some exceptions wherein the writers were able to recapture experiences and emotions in such a way that the writing opened the door to sights and feelings not yet analyzed and neatly tied in a package of conclusions flavored with erudition. A final surprise was that I didn’t enjoy reading about places I’ve never been and don’t expect to go. Overall well written and mostly too self focused to be of genuine interest.

Strange, esoteric stories by strange, esoteric people Some good writing, mostly about nothing. I caught glimpses of authors who would probably describe themselves as "intellectuals", but whose writing centered on a dream-like recollection of experiences that held no point but the vague recollections of the experiences. Some tidy use of language here and there, but largely pointless. Strange, esoteric stories by strange, esoteric people Some good writing, mostly about nothing.
