Well-written First off, I have to say that this was not an easy read for me. I did not care for any of the characters and thought the story was unrealistic. Not to say that others wouldn't enjoy this as the author is very talented and can really write. It just wasn't for me. Jewel and her husband settle in Sri Lanka. Her husband is a gambler and while at a poker game he bets his wife--Jewel. Of course, he loses and Jewel finds herself on a ship, forced to be a sex slave. If you're looking for something porny then this is it, a quick read that you don't need to think about. I was expecting this to be quite dark but it actually wasn't at all so you're probably safe if you don't usually read dark romance and i'd consider this dub-con rather than non-con. While this was an easy read it didn't particularly grab me. I found the charcaters pretty forgettable and I can't remember any of their names. One thing that did bug me was that the MC kept going on about her 'training' even though she didn't actually get any. With kinky captive stories I like a strong alpha hero and there wasn't one in this book, just a few cardboard personalities unfortunately. *I received a review copy of this book through the BDSM group on GR*

WOW, I don't know if I should love this book or hate it, there are so many things going wrong for Jewel you have to hate it for her but the author did such a wonderful job of writing that I loved it. There was so much going on I don't know where to start...ok let's start at the beginning. **Warning there are some spoilers beyond this point proceed with caution...you have been warned** Jewel and Carl are married and traveling the world when they decided to stay in Sri Lanka for an extended period of time to regroup, save a bit more money, and then continue to travel. They have been in Sri Lanka for about a year and a half when Carl has a poker night with four men from a Ship named "Kelsey" that he met through work. During that game - where I think Carl lost his ever lovin' mind - Carl runs out of money and instead of folding he puts IOU's into the pot, the IOU's are sexual favors that his wife will do for the men....SERIOUSLY????? What type of man would barter his wife's body? AND HE LOSES! OK, I'm a poker player and I know sometimes you wanna bluff to make other people fold and hopefully you will win the pot, but, I do not know any man that would put his wife on the line like that. Needless to say Carl loses Jewel in the final hand, and she is carted off with the four men...fighting and screaming I might add, and her useless excuse for a husband just sits there. HE JUST SITS THERE AND LETS THEM TAKE HER AWAY! What is this man thinking? Like I said I think he lost his mind! Ok, fast forward to Jewel being on the ship now and is ganged raped by several of the crew members as a way of training her, because the captain plans on selling her to the highest bidder at a slave auction. Man oh man things just aren't going Jewel's way at all. I was holding out hope that one of the men (R.J.) was an undercover agent of some sort and was going to arrest everyone for slave trafficking but nope that didn't happen, what did happen was Jewel befriended the only other woman on board Annie. Annie was an interesting character that I liked and I really hope that she's in the second book because things didn't look so good for her at the end of this one. The ending was so power packed and filled with twists and turns that I felt like I was on the ship with Jewel and everyone else....just another spectator into this crazy twist of events. Whew...is anyone else feeling a little sea sick? ***This book was provided by the Author through the BDSM group on Goodreads in exchange for my honest review***

    Sissy's Romance Book Review

This is book one on the "World Without" series by Jaye Frances. This book does have a cliffhanger that set you up for the next book 'Reunion' and also has little romance in it. Jewel did not believe at first that her husband really did such a thing and tried to get him to speak up and say it was a joke but there was no joke. Jewel was taken on a ship to be transported to a auction for sex slaves. While on the ship the Captain had her get 'ready' and be 'trained' for the business by having her have sex with the different men on the ship. The one bright spot that help her deal with the situation was Annie who also had been taking aboard a few years ago but has since made a deal with the Captain to work as the cook. Jewel has had to learn how to deal with some really hard things that you normal could not think would happen. I thought it was interested incite and how sad things are in the Sex Slave Business.

They settled in Sri Lanka temporarily after a long time travelling around the world, but Jewel is starting to think her husband has no plans to pick back up with traveling, and this will become their home. One night while her husband plays yet another poker game with some people passing through, Jewel is drawn into the high stakes match, as the prize. Jewel suddenly finds herself a captive on a ship bound for lands unknown and her fate is in the hands of the Captain of the ship. She must learn to follow orders, please the men on the ship, and prepare to reach their destination. While I enjoyed this story, I had a few issues with the plot line, that required me to suspend disbelief a little too much. Jewel was a bit all over the place with her compliance, and to a degree I understand, but some of her reactions were not explained well enough, her mind not revealing her reasoning enough, and some reactions just were not realistic enough for the situation she found herself in. The easy winning of privileges after only a few days was also not realistic to me. Being given full reign and considered "trained" after one orgy is not what I would realistically expect from the Captain of a "Slaver" ship. I also found that her assumptions about what other characters were thinking, and presenting them as facts created an odd omniscient feel to the story telling. This is not realistic, as at the conclusion of the story, there is still no way for Jewel to know the things she knows. Since it isn't presented as a flashback, I can't make the assumption that it is one, or that Jewel somehow found this stuff out through inquiry after the fact. It is just not possible with the story presented. This was still a good first book for a series. It has set the ground work, and I am interested to see where the story goes, where Jewel ends up, and what will happen to her now. I was riveted to the survival portion of the story. I won't spoil it, but I will say it was the highlight of the book for me. It was completely detailed and I felt the tension throughout the entire ordeal. Very realistic descriptions and perfect detail to keep the reader in the moment. This is a dark-erotica story (although for those of us who are truly depraved, this would be considered grey) with non-con, dub-con, and forced submission. There was some light F/F content as well. This is not a romance, and ends on a cliffhanger, but it is an interesting story and I would recommend it to those who want to explore the darker side of the high seas without worrying that it is too extreme. While this was read through the BDSM Group, there is no BDSM in this story that I could see, and the focus is more on capture and multiple partnering, so I haven't given it a BDSM tag.

After reading the blurb, I settled in for a dark, twisting tale of a woman's betrayal into the hands of fiends and her survival. I don't typically take up a darker erotic story like this and it did indeed push me out of my comfort zone. I wanted to set it aside and was even shaking when the story really got going, but the writing and the intense story of this brave woman kept me reading through this first segment of the story to its dramatic conclusion that had a big twist leading toward more in After reading the blurb, I settled in for a dark, twisting tale of a woman's betrayal into the hands of fiends and her survival. I wanted to set it aside and was even shaking when the story really got going, but the writing and the intense story of this brave woman kept me reading through this first segment of the story to its dramatic conclusion that had a big twist leading toward more in the next installment. The themes of the story were indeed dark and those who have triggers about sexual abuse and exploitation should be cautious. There is non-con, dub-con, sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Gang sex and even some f/f action. The story opens with young wife, Jewel, finding herself restrained and terrified in the hold of a ship after her husband lost her in a game of cards and let a cold-eyed captain and his men take her with no resistance. She is now to be trained for the sex trade. Jewel has to come to terms with her new reality and keep her wits about her. The captain intends to 'train' her and her training can break her or allow her to survive long enough to find a way out. If there is a way out... Jewel endures even as she counter plots against the captain keeping him and his sleazy crew from guessing that she might be frightened, but she is definitely not beaten and accepting of her fate. Jewel must do what she must and that involves some intense and horrendous stuff. She can't let the captain's training warp her mind or use his crew to break her body and spirit. It is a battle of wills that she must win or lose herself. Alright, so this was one intense read from cover to cover. It's more of an introduction into the depravity of humanity from Jewel's husband to the captain and to every man of the slave ship's crew. Jewel's story is told all from her point of view. The reader can feel the fear tightening the throat and chest, the nausea for what she must tolerate and endure, and the deep burning impotent anger as she waits her chance. It's a raw, visceral story and pulls no punches. The sexual abuse (aka training) is accompanied by mental abuse designed to break her down and remake her into a sex slave all for profits. It's awful, but I couldn't stop even when the tears came. I connected with Jewel and one other member of the ship. I am curious about the Captain and wonder about a few other characters mentioned. But, there is one ray of light. Jewel is not entirely alone. And she learns that she has a stronger spirit and inner strength than she thought. There is one long-shot of hope that keeps her going. The big scene at the end was unexpected and I look forward to seeing where the story takes Jewel now. All in all, things are dark and bleak for Jewel. This is a gritty dark erotica and it's well written, but I think for an limited audience of those who will enjoy or at least tolerate non/dub consent and a heroine sold into slavery. I received my copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

WARNING: Graphic and explicit sexual scenes…kidnapping, sexual slavery, human trafficking, rape, abuse… I hesitate to call it erotica, because I view erotica as sex for sex’s sake. The scenes in Betrayed are pivotal to the story to show the savagery and brutality of the human trafficking of women. I rarely read erotica, unless it is by an author I cannot resist, of which Jaye is one. I was talking to my sister about the book and how I could best describe it to get my point across. Human trafficking…one of the ugliest sides of “humanity”. The men who do this deserve the worst punishment possible…death! They are not fit to walk the face of the earth and you will meet some of them…especially her husband, Carl. So many characters to hate and I wish I could climb through my kindle to make them pay. They should not be able to walk among us, living and breathing. Betrayed by Jaye Frances is jam packed with action. I felt my emotions taking me into the depths of hell and she took me to a place I have never been before. I can only hope Jaye Frances will make them pay, in the worst possible way! The storm descriptions were vivid and terrorizing, but I felt something good would come of it. I had a feeling I knew where Jaye was going and who Jewel would end up with to continue the story, but how that will play out… The cliffhanger ending has me literally hanging on the edge…waiting to see where we will go next and I can hardly wait to get there. And I hope to see Carl again…soon. I received a copy of Betrayed by Jaye Frances in return for an honest review. As I said earlier, I love her writing and will go wherever she wants to take me. I enjoyed the book from end to end. Jewel is living in Sri Lanka enjoying a break from world travels, when her husband uses her as collateral in a game of poker. Jewel thinks that the game is a joke until she finds herself carried from the house in the dead of night, drugged, stripped and tied up on a ship heading out to sea. She finds herself alone with a cold, calculating captain intent to get the highest price possible for this blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty, and his male crew who are enthusiastic to train her to become a willing sex slave comfortable with providing endless sexual congress with anyone and everyone. Jewel is strong and determined to do anything she can - put on the appropriate act - in order to survive and escape her apparent fate. This is a story of survival. Jewel is not a willing participant in many of the sexual encounters - particularly, the overwhelming encounters with multiple crew members. The passages are not written to be erotic. This book is not a gang-bang fantasy novel. (Note: I despise gang-bang fantasies, so, to treat the events without glorifying them really worked for me.) On the other hand, there is one female (supposedly indentured) cook on board who does her best to coach Jewel and give her the best chance for survival. What starts out as gestures of comfort, quickly evolve into a strong romantic, physical relationship. I found these encounters to be really sexy - very erotic. As the ship closes in on its destination and Jewel's impending auction as a sex slave, the peril sharpens to a point where the reader will find themselves flipping pages, struggling to find out what happens next. The author does an awesome job writing tense action scenes in a manner which is easy to visualize in your head. In fact, in portions of the book, the intensity was so great and maintained for such a long time that I found myself drowning in the stress, almost craving a moment to catch a breath. There are a few niggling points that I could become anal about, but, for the most part, I loved this book and can not wait for the next book to be published, so I can figure out what happens next.

Received from the author in exchange for an honest review via the BDSM Group on Goodreads First I need to say that Jaye is an amazing writer. Betrayed is not an easy read. It has a lot of emotion going on with a dark and twisted narrative that has you second guessing the characters and their motivations until you have no idea who anyone really is. Jewel comes across as a real person in a real situation she is trying to survive. And while I understand the need for her constantly explaining everything, it does get a bit distracting. I also truly hope Carl has something horrible happen to him. I don't care what it is so long as it is sufficiently horrible. I'm not happy with cliffhangers in general, however, this one works and I'm impatiently waiting for the next book to come out. (Why can't authors write as fast as I can read? And yes I'm always impatient when it comes to something I can't wait to read more of). I would also like to compliment Jaye on her editor and ask her to please share. From a strictly grammatic viewpoint, this is one of the easiest stories I have read in a long time with no glaring annoyances that pull you out of the narrative and make you say bad things about the publishers. She's drugged, brought onboard, bound naked & spread eagle in the hold for the first night. Each step is to break her. Annie brings her her meals & the first bit of comfort since being abducted, a blanket. Next is to prepare her for the "training" by some of the crew, all in preparation of being sold as a Sex Slave! Jewel truly believed her husband when he said it was all in fun. He wasn't really offering her body as collateral on his bets. The IOU's he was writing were Not real. She was leery, but this is her husband & he loves her, right? How very naive of her. Jewel may have believed him but she is quite strong of spirit. She's put in a difficult position & keeps her sense of self. Ms. Frances has a way with words, you want to read & cheer Jewel on throughout the story. I look forward to the next chapter of World Without Love Series. Thank you Ms. Frances for the chance to read your book.

Turns out the men run a slave ship and train and transport women for sale at auction. While I enjoyed the storyline and did not have any issue with the actual events that occurred at times it seemed to move very slowly for me. I could not figure out if R. J. was a good guy or bad guy. To try to survive her training she detaches herself from what happens to her since she knows that fighting back will only make things harder for her. The main issues for me were the cliffie and although the author was great at providing tons of detail so you could picture the scene exactly, at times I actually lost the conversation. There would be a question and then two pages of descriptive analysis and then an answer and I would have to flip back to see what the question was. As much as I wanted to love this book, unfortunately I couldn’t due to the pace and cliffie. There was also was more suspense than erotic. I would still like to read the next book to see what happens next to Jewel. *REVIEW STARS* Hero: n/a Heroine: Jewel 3 stars Heat Level:3 stars Plot: 4 stars Overall: 3 stars Cliffhanger: yes I was provided a copy by the Author through the BDSM group on goodreads.

So one-click and hang onto your heart as you take a journey across the seas, where nothing is sacred and vows mean nothing where money is concerned. Greed and gluttony, lust and loathing, vain and viciousness...yet above all the sins present in this story that will make you shiver in fear, your heart will break, and no one can be trusted. Sex is currency and love means nothing on the high seas. So get ready for the ultimate Betrayal!!

I receive this book from Shut Up& Read Group Overall thoughts: This book is very dark and dangerous. It expose to a world fill with sex, danger, manipulation, domination, girls love, betrayal. If you into such book, please give it a go. Personally, I like the book cos it manage to hook me from the start until the end. It kept me on edge and it's like part of me is with Jewel. Praying she can escape. Praying that she fight all these. Chuckle. But it still disturb part of me. A difficult book for me to read because of the sexual content. There are portions of the book, however, which held my interest and the concluding few pages definitely were of a compelling nature. I know that Jaye Frances is a Goodreads author and learned from the outset that I needed to read Book One before reading Book Two which I have received as a Goodreads Giveaway. DNF - not even sure what it was about it. I can point out a few things like she agrees while they play cards for IOU's for fun? or she's taken, wakes up on a ship and let's the only woman on board touch her and pleasure her? Anyways, a little too much of that type of thing and I could not continue. DNF - not even sure what it was about it.
