The more we dig deep in to the Old Testament the more we realize that there is tremendous history in the Bible and that history has very much to do with who we are right now. This is a great book to be read over 30 days, reading one devotional per day. I enjoyed the "takeaway" and "prayer" portion at the end of each day's reading. This reminds me of a quote by Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heshel: "Nothing worth building can be built in a single generation." Enjoyable Devotion on the Life of Abraham I have always been fascinated with Abraham's great faith in God. This was a whole new perspective on an ancient story, which I know by heart. Ramos managed to show a modern and practical perspective on the impressive story of Abraham, a man who abandons everything and leaves his life in Gods hands. Very inspirational and it comforted me while reading it. I hardly do it, but this time I regularly wrote down parts he had written and shared it with others. I look forward to reading more of this author!

A truthful and inspiring devotional on faith This devotional gives us clear insight on Abraham 's life. It denotes how God fulfilled promises and how it took faith on Abraham's part fur these to come to pass. It was also nice to see this old testament story told in a manner that was so understandable. Very nice devotional The way the author has written this is in short chapters to help you think about the main things he’s pointing out that Abraham had to do to help his faith. Things that you and I endure today. At the end of each chapter he makes a point of “what to take away” and a prayer to say to highlight the chapter

Good Perspectives on Abraham Following the story of Abraham, you are brought face to face with his humanity as well as his faith. Well written as a devotional, you will come away with a better understanding of both Abraham and yourself. A good spiritual guide.

Pleasantly surprised by Ramos' insight into the development of the patriarch's faith. The devotion guide format was genius. He said just enough to spawn thought but guided you to conclusions that are in the narrative of Abraham's life. Pleasantly surprised by Ramos' insight into the development of the patriarch's faith. Climbing with Abraham is a thirty-day devotional by David Ramos. This is the author’s first installment in a series of Old Testament devotionals. David shared this about his purpose in writing the series: “…My latest series on various men of the OT is aimed at doing just that [the readers discovering a more honest version of themselves as well as a clearer picture of God]. By following these ancient stories for an extended period of time (30+ days) you’re able to pull out patterns and treasures y Climbing with Abraham is a thirty-day devotional by David Ramos. This is the author’s first installment in a series of Old Testament devotionals. David shared this about his purpose in writing the series: “…My latest series on various men of the OT is aimed at doing just that [the readers discovering a more honest version of themselves as well as a clearer picture of God]. By following these ancient stories for an extended period of time (30+ days) you’re able to pull out patterns and treasures you would otherwise miss. Proverbs 13:20 says we can become wise by spending time with wise people. My hope is that by writing and sharing these devotionals readers will be able to glean some of the character displayed by their examples as well as building a big view of God.” If Climbing with Abraham is indicative of the quality of the rest of this series, we have something to be excited about! Each devotional has a passage to read, devotional comments, a takeaway thought (the big idea to ponder or apply), and a prayer. The devotion is easy to read, with rich insight and application from the narrative of Abraham. The only problem is that each devotional is so enjoyable, it’s hard to just read one. Here is a brief sample of the author’s insight as he shares about Melchizedek, a mystical character, who blesses Abraham in Genesis 14. “Here we see one of the promises made to Abraham come true: ‘I will bless those who bless you.’ Melchizedek went on to become a very important symbol for Christ in the Old Testament. I can’t help but believe that was a result of his treatment of Abraham. Because he took a risk in front of his fellow kings and blessed this foreigner, God rewarded him. First, through a tenth of Abraham’s spoils. Second, through a legacy of being remembered as a great servant of God. Who has God called you to bless, to stand up for, to defend, to clothe, to encourage? I believe deeply that God is most satisfied when He sees His children helping one another. And when God is satisfied, He cannot help but bless.” As one who has deeply studied the narrative of Abraham and this specific passage, I had never thought about this. You’ll find this type of insight and application throughout the book. Pick it up today and keep an eye out for Escaping with Jacob which publishes December 8, 2015. May God richly bless and use this series to encourage and refresh his Church.

I thoroughly enjoyed this devotional focusing on Abraham! It is a deeper look at the Father of Faith and how although humanly flawed, he still walked in a deep faith in God. Well written in life applicable lessons that all Christians would be blessed to study. I highly recommend it!

I loved this short but powerful book. I read it while flying roundtrip from Philadelphia to Chicago. It was a perfect book for this setting. As I read David's book, I felt like I was journeying with Abraham and God. I gleamed much wisdom on my journey with Abraham. Let me highlight key themes that resonated with me. David mentions three key points about stories. They are each mentioned in a different day's reading. "Countless stories have taken place to allow you to live at this precise moment in time." "Your story is part of something infinitely larger." "Of all the lessons I learned from Abraham, the one I keep coming back to is that our stories continue beyond us." "I want to live a life that doesn’t make sense apart from God." That is a bold but true statement. Life is a journey. It is a journey best taken with God as your partner. This journey will involve faith. "Great faith is built one day at a time, step by step." David also later on mentions, "If there is no possibility of failure then there is no evidence of faith." "As people of God, we are graced with immense power, and simultaneously burdened by immeasurable responsibility." This made me think about the responsibility I have in raising my children. This made me think more about the responsibility I have at work and in the community. We are never alone. We serve a God that enters messes with us. "God does not run away from messes -He (She) enters them." I think we often forget this. "Of all the names God is given in Genesis, this one is my favorite: El Roi –the God who sees me." "The God who led Abraham is the same God we serve today, and He (She) is waiting for people to rise up and say “I am yours, lead me.” ". God is waiting to lead you. God will journey with you as write your story. Read David's book! And then begin your journey!

In Climbing with Abraham, Ramos uncovers lessons from the life of Abraham that are applicable in today's world. It was a timely devotional book for me because I'm currently on a faith journey that isn't nearly as extreme as Abraham's and yet similar in some ways. Like Abraham, I have to trust in a God that doesn't hurry. I was encouraged by reminders such as, "Abraham's climb to maturity and success was riddled with struggles and setbacks, much like our own. The key to his success and the secret to ours, was an unwavering trust in the Almighty God." I found myself highlighting many parts of this book that I'll read again and again at times when I wonder if God's forgotten His promises to me. Referring to the truths in this devotional will remind me that it's worth hanging in there and trusting God to do what He's said He would. I was really encouraged by this book and would recommend it for anyone who wants to get to know Abraham better, or who is on a faith journey (which should be true for all believers!).
