A reminder that the best English country houses to visit are those opened to the public by their private owners. English Heritage & the National Trust do a good job on conservation, but tend to lean to the theme-park style of presentation.
Throughout this book, Thelwell shows his affectionate, and astutely delectable and light touch in portraying the funny side of the British class system.
