A Homemade Together Christmas This is a cute story with a nice message that homemade gifts are often best--and that being together is better than anything else. Although I didn't find anything outstanding about the storytelling or artwork it is pleasant and easy to read and makes a nice addition to the Christmas picture book market. ETA: I’m bumping this up to five stars. I loved sharing it with my children. "The Best Part Of Christmas Is Spending Time Together. There Is No Better Gift!" A family of adorable pigs decides that for Christmas this year they will make their gifts to one another rather than buy them. I really enjoyed reading this heart-warming story. Didn't really hold my 4 year old son's attention. But I absolutely loved this one. Wonderful message! Will be buying a hardcover to add to our collection. The focus of this sweet Christmas story is Luca, the son in this porcine family that has decided to have a homemade Christmas by making gifts instead of buying them. He struggles with ideas, too many of them, but they aren’t really practical. He struggles with ideas, too many of them, but they aren’t really practical. As he looks around for inspiration, he sees that Momma, Dad and sister Rosie are already working on their gifts, and they offer a few suggestions. But his effort to make the honey granola bars that Dad suggested only leaves him with an empty honey jar and a tummy ache. The snowbear Rosie suggests melts in the sun, leaving behind the snowbear’s red scarf, and his origami birds don’t look quite right. On Christmas Eve, he begins to panic until Momma tells him that the best gift is the family spending time together. He suddenly becomes inspired and, using the products of his failed attempts, Luca creates a “365 days of Together-To-Dos” jar for the family. On Christmas, Luca proudly presents his gift and Rosie has the honor of the first draw: “watch the sunrise from the porch.” Momma brings her homemade pancakes, Dad brings his homemade quilt and Rosie prepares to sing her homemade song as the family enjoys the Christmas sunrise on the porch. The story succeeds on many levels. The themes of kindness, togetherness, reassurance, creativity, and simplicity are well done without being maudlin. Fancifully detailed watercolor illustrations suit the story perfectly. What better way to introduce the true spirit of Christmas to young and old alike.

I like this story of Luca and his family who decide to MAKE their Xmas gifts, rather than buying them. Granted, you DON'T want to make this decision on Xmas eve. Great illustration. I liked this! The family decides while admiring their homemade Christmas ornaments that they want to give each other homemade (and, as it turns out, collective) gifts that year. Luca comes up with a bunch of ideas and tries several things, but none of them work. Finally, he has the idea to give the family the practice of doing something together each day. It's all really sweet, and Luca's struggle to come up with a good idea is something I sympathize with a lot. (but ack, they make the decision t I liked this! I like the idea of a family choosing to make gifts for each other. It reminds me of a family I know who decided one year to all make something for the State Fair contests. A good read with Crafty Chloe or A Gift for Abuelita, although neither of those is about Christmas. They're both about making a gift yourself. Super sweet story about how a family of pigs decides to do a homemade Christmas, but one pig has a hard time coming up with ideas. Until he realizes he can make a list of 365 together to dos and being together is most important for Christmas. Super sweet story, maybe more impactful for me than my kiddos.

Cute little pig wants to have a homemade Christmas. So everyone in the family makes something special for Christmas. Even the littlest one comes up with a great "together" idea for Christmas. A delightful family of rosy-cheeked pigs decide to make Christmas gifts for one another rather than buy them. While Luca’s parents and sister Rosie get busy creating their presents, the youngest pig struggles to execute his ideas. Then on Christmas Eve his efforts finally inspire a just-right gift for this sweetly non-commercial family tale.

Sadly, my family has never been this affectionate or into making or giving. But that doesn't stop me from loving the idea, and the book. Recommended. Especially recommended because the spirit of the holiday shines, even though there's neither Jesus nor Santa. Sadly, my family has never been this affectionate or into making or giving.
