A Hearts On Fire Review 3.5 HEARTS--New author B.L. Dayhoff introduces a mostly angst-free short about a damaged ex-manwhore of a bull rider and his physical therapist finding romance unexpectedly. Blake is a hotshot bull rider who likes to buck broncos on and off the rodeo circuit, if you catch my drift. *saucy wink* He has a career ending injury and is in the hospital for some time. While recuperating he meets sexy, big bull of a physical therapist with a sweet snarky side named Ivan. The two don't hit it off immediately which I enjoyed! In fact, Blake gets a boyfriend in an "ambulance chaser" named Jake. The matchy names aside, their sex interludes were interesting. See, Blake has ED while recuperating-he is in a wheelchair and braces. His leg is broken, he has PTSD from the accident. He also has impotency issues during this time. Reading sex scenes with floppy, flaccid...penis was different. I couldn't stop the images of uncooked chicken franks, drooping in the moist wind in my head when the floppy scenes happened. (My mind is a fun place) Thankfully, the floppy hot dog gets back in action...with the right man! This was a decent read. Nothing too crazy to rock the boat...safe? Probably. The beginning was a little confusing and there was one sentiment that gave me pause - Blake's theory of bottoming. Getting to know Blake on the surface (there's not much depth), it fits his character. *tilts head* Mmmyeah. It might be more of a me thing, so I won't delve into it. I also wished Jack's abrupt departure was explored further - Ivan explained it away but I wish Blake would have had a scene to tell Jack to piss off. The sex varied- some mediocre to middling hot. I liked the details when Blake was in the wheelchair. He didn't just jump into crazy hot ass pounding. His muscle spasms and frustration throughout the book was great. What I loved the most: the banter between Ivan and Blake. Their bond was believable - good patient/practitioner, great friends and thoughtful lovers. And when they had sex? It was a little spicy vanilla. Who doesn't like a faint taste of orgasm denial, cuffs and face fucking? Would I have liked a stronger kink presence? I'll never say no but the tone fit the MC. I hope the author plans on trying out BDSM - Ivan had solid components to make a Dom. I liked the way it ended. Sweet-ish without the sugar high. I'd read more from this author. If you want to read a light angst, cowboy hurt/comfort, this might be up your alley.

FourandHalfStars This was a sweet romance story which I liked very much. The relationship between Blake and Ivan developed slowly over time while Blake was under Ivan's care. I liked that it wasn't instant love. Ivan came across as a very nice guy. While Blake on the other hand seemed to move through men and was afraid of a commitment. The relationship that developed was uncomplicated and one that you could only wish for. My only disappointment was the story ended rather abruptly. I wish there was a little more to the ending, it left me with some UNANSWERED questions. It was written well and kept me interested. Definitely a book I would recommend. Blake falls hard in this story. Overnight, he goes from rodeo star to rehab patient. Dayhoff paints a raw, frustrated man who has to come to grips with his dramatically changed fortune. A beautiful back-story makes Blake endearing, and rejection makes him sweeter. I also love Ivan, Blake’s giant physiotherapist. Kindness, patience and muscles - what’s not to love? My problem is the ending - the author set up a story that would CONTINUE for another couple of hundred pages while Blake found his place in the world and came to grips with his past. Instead, the story just ended. Just when I’d started to really like Blake. I’m still feeling a little bereft and I’m hoping for a sequel. As much as I love cowboy stories and the blurb made me eager to read this I felt a bit let down. Blake finds himself in the hospital nearly trodden to death by a bull. There is lots of angst( I like) some sex( was fairly hot) I did like that Blake dealt with some issues in that department. It made his injuries very believable. I have to say I found the story OK. If you like bull riders, angst, rehab therapists and some fairly hot man-sex this is for you. * I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review through http://mmgoodbookreviews.wordpress.com *

i'm torn on my review of this short story. i really like the characters, the writing, the story and the low level of angst. i did not like how the book literally just stopped...the story didn't seem to end, it just stopped. is there a follow up book we're getting? i would love to read more if there is more - their story has the potential to be extremely powerful. as it stands i feel like i'm left hanging. blake is a bit of an arrogant bastard. he suffered through a major trauma as a teen which c i'm torn on my review of this short story. i really like the characters, the writing, the story and the low level of angst. i did not like how the book literally just stopped...the story didn't seem to end, it just stopped. is there a follow up book we're getting? i would love to read more if there is more - their story has the potential to be extremely powerful. as it stands i feel like i'm left hanging. blake is a bit of an arrogant bastard. he suffered through a major trauma as a teen which closed him off a bit. while this was touched upon during the story, it seemed to be glossed over. i would have liked to see him dealing with that more and healing from it. the healing seemed to coincide a bit with his physical healing. ivan is a good, strong alpha that was the perfect match for blake. we know next to nothing about him or his history but i love him anyway. what it boils down to is this is a great starting point for these two and i would recommend it but i need more.

Sometimes the Cowboy Falls by BL Dayoff is a story of Blake coming into his own. Finding himself after all he thought he had is taken away. Blake is a rodeo rider. He also is gay and been through all the cute gay men who would say yes at the rodeos. He is not one to commit. But when he falls off a bull and his rodeo days are over he has to find himself without being in the rodeo. I liked watching his progression from basically horn dog to sweet man you would love to hang around. Ivan his love in Sometimes the Cowboy Falls by BL Dayoff is a story of Blake coming into his own. He is strong, doesn’t take Blake’s attitude, but also willing to try new things and listen. Perfect for Blake. When you want a romance that shows real progression of a character and is a fast fun read this is the one to pick up. Four Twinkling Stars

Original review on Molly Lolly Four stars! This story was a quick read that I enjoyed. I thought it interesting that Blake was laissez faire about Jack, but he wasn’t really long term material anyway. I do think some of the time spent on the relationship between Blake and Jack would have been better putting a more solid happy ending on the story. Ivan was sweet and handled Blake beautifully. He was patient and knew when to push their relationship further and when to wait. I would have liked to see Original review on Molly Lolly Four stars! This story was a quick read that I enjoyed. But there’s room for a sequel that I would definitely read if it happened.
