This was an interesting concept; a seer... one who would be able to read and learn of the history of something by touch... and mix is with being an art appraiser and authenticator. This talent ran in her family and functioned in the art world for years. Mix this with the infamous Gardner Museum stolen art and you have an interesting base. We also had the element of timeless love... across lives. An ambitious story with stolen art, forgeries, ghosts and found love.

Otto introduces Addie to Blake, an art dealer. The attraction between Addie and Blake is terrific, and Addie, who has been celibate for the past 7 years, doesn't welcome this feeling of vulnerability. Just when Addie gets a taste of what normal life is, she gets tangled in a dangerous web of deception. This is going to be a difficult review for me. I can't say much details, as I may give away some important plotlines. I will try to be make it spoiler-free, as much as possible. The plot is unique in a way that you will keep thinking of its awesomeness for a long time after finishing this book. There was so much positives in the book, that kept me awake with my Kindle at night, in spite of my recently sleep deprived life. I am grazing through some things I loved here.. - The romance between Addie and Blake - The mystery of the stolen art - The paranormal touch to everything - The beauty of knowing the characters' inherent feelings - The change in POV without causing confusion, but giving more depth to the story I could actually go on and on. The writing was great, despite this being the author's debut. The climax wrapped up some major subplots and ended with HEA. There are some questions unanswered like why Addie's grandfather has given warning, why he made his presence after all this time, how did Blake come in Addie's dreams and of course, the real mystery about the art. I wish I have the second book with me now. This book has exceeded my expectations in every way. You should definitely read it, if romance, suspense or paranormal genre suits you.

While I am writing this review I am listening to the playlist that Alyssa has created for the book and there are some songs that certainly remind me of both Addie and Blake. I enjoyed every minute of it and I am so happy that I accepted the request to review this book because undoubtedly Alyssa Richards has just become one of my new favourite authors for this year. It has been a really long time since I read a really good paranormal book. I was tired of reading the same clichéd stories so it was a breath of fresh air to read The Fine Art of Deception. I am a sucker for great mysteries and trying to solve them and this book gave me just the chance to do that. I have to say that there were things I caught at first sight but there were others that were so well hidden that it was impossible to unravel them till the end. I loved all the concept of predestination, reincarnation and soul mates. I have previously read about this kind of topic in other books and really liked it. But Alyssa brings a new kind of passion into the paranormal genre, she brings adventure, mystery, desire and love while bending the limits of the paranormal world with romance to create an unforgettable story. Both main characters are strong-willed and passionate about what they love. The whole story is narrated from Addie´s point of view which gave me an insight on how hard her power makes her life. I really liked her as main character but I loved Blake. He is powerful in a kind of alpha male way that you cannot do nothing but fall under his sexy spell. I mean, just his name is sexy ;) I really loved this story and cannot wait to read its sequel. If you are a fan of paranormal romance or just romance with a new twist you should definitely check out The Art of Deception and keep Alyssa Richards in your top author´s list!

Romance, with a side of psychic and mystery - 4.5 stars Alyssa Richards is a new author for me and I am kinda picky about paranormal reads. The questions surrounding the disappearance of her father and grandfather leads you on an unexpected ride and the fact that Addie has given up on love and men in general, you automatically know someone is going to show up that puts that to the test. This book has it all... ghosts, past lives, great loves and great sorrows. It can be a little hard to follow along at first, but once you get into it, you will really enjoy it. ***Reviewed on behalf of Book-lover book blog***

I enjoyed the mix of paranormal, crime and romance in this quick read. I was surprised how quickly I finished and how well the book kept my attention. It was not difficult the see the twists coming, but Ms. Richards wrote them in a way that still seemed fresh and unexpected. The characters were fascinating and well developed; the story had a wonderful pace. I look forward to picking up the next installment. I love romance that has something extra, and though the genre selection didn’t suggest anything other than straight romance, it’s far more IMO, a beautiful romance with elements of paranormal and suspense. Adeline comes from a family with extra talents, her sister can mentally “push” people to do what she wants, and Adeline has an ability to see the history from touching an object, and find out more about the people connected with it. Its not a gift that's brought her family happiness though, her father and grandfather disappeared mysteriously, and when she told her best friend about it she lost both the friendship of her and others, her job, and then her boyfriend ditched her for the best friend too. She’s decided that she’s going to ignore her gift, and look for something normal, a straightforward job, and try to live as everyone else does. Its hard though, some touches happen by accident, and sometimes she just can’t resist a dip into the history of something. She’s learned so much about artists and art that way, being able to tell real from fake when they reveal their stories to her touch. Of course she can’t tell anyone other than family about it but its been both a joy and sometimes traumatic to her. I love the idea that things can keep essences of people connected to them. I love old buildings and artefacts, and like to think about people connected with them – to have Addie's gift would be wonderful – but then seeing what you don’t want, or actually being partially pulled into past could be not so good.... still, I’m open minded about things like that, and don’t find it hard to believe that this could happen to some people ( or maybe I'm just naive and gullible !!) Anyway I loved Addie, felt for her when the job she enjoys turns out to bring her into real danger. Then there’s Blake and what a guy he is. The connection between them sizzles, steams and feels intense, but of course Addie knows he’s hiding things, not least because she suspects he has abilities similar to her sister, and the things of his she touches are blank. That just doesn't happen, has been done deliberately to hide things....so she tries to avoid him but he keeps on asking, and somehow she finds herself wrapped up in a relationship with him. There’s some real heartbreak though when her “touches” show her things she doesn’t want to see, and after her last disaster of a romance she’s wary... I really enjoyed this read, full of sensuality, beautiful settings and stories, and people that felt real. When the dangers heated up they felt genuine, and like Addie I wasn’t sure who was to be trusted and what was the truth. Its a great novel, one I really enjoyed and I’d happily read anything Alyssa writes next. Stars: Five, a great read. ARC provided by netgalley and publishers

I have to be honest... Sometimes when I start books that aren't in a series I'm already invested in, I forget what that particular book is about. When I was organizing my books for June 11th reviews, I saw that the cover of this one stated "Paranormal Romance" so I filed it away in my head as well... A paranormal romance. I suppose psychics and ghosts and past lives, oh my, can and should be classified as paranormal but the thing is... I've had too many psychic readings that were scarily accurate; I believe in auras; I believe in ghosts and haunted things; I believe in past lives... So therefore it wasn't truly paranormal in my sense of the genre. And that is truly my only negative takeaway from this book. Our players here are Addie and Blake. Addie is psychic and sees ghosts. All she wants is a normal life where she doesn't bump into a person and get a front row seat to their thinking, or touch a person's wallet and find out his secrets. What she wants is a job at the prestigious art museum where she can surround herself with paintings and stories of the past. Addie has lived her entire life knowing she had a great, once in a lifetime love in a past life. She feels it and knows it in her soul. When she stumbles across a sapphire ring at an antique shop and sees the inscription, she knows without a doubt that it was hers once upon a time, and now she wears it as a reminder that love does exist -- because quite frankly, she doesn't believe in it anymore. Then we have Blake. Blake is working for a man named Otto, who wants to take Addie on in his quest to find the missing Gardner pieces because of her talents. Blake is drawn to Addie and while he agrees to Otto's plan, it turns quickly into him wanting to protect her. I enjoyed this story -- some parts were a little drawn out for my liking, but I enjoyed the relationship and the mystery, as well as the suspenseful aspects. I loved that while their relationship was formed on a note of deception, it quickly became something else... besides, you can't easily lie to a psychic. There is plenty more to be told in Addie and Blake's story. This one does end nicely, there's not a huge cliff that you're hanging off of, but you will be left with plenty of questions that need answers still.

Adeline Montgomery comes from a family of psychics. They each have their own talents and hers is that when she touches an object she sees events and feelings relating to its owner, sometimes their deepest secrets. This is a great way of finding out if art work is genuine or fake but sometimes others just find it too frightening to cope with - like her ex, Jeremy, who is now engaged to the person who used to be her best friend. Even though they split seven years ago it has had a severe effect on Adeline Montgomery comes from a family of psychics. This is a great way of finding out if art work is genuine or fake but sometimes others just find it too frightening to cope with - like her ex, Jeremy, who is now engaged to the person who used to be her best friend. Even though they split seven years ago it has had a severe effect on her willingness to share her gift or to trust men. She can also see and communicate with “ghosts” and touching someone can reveal their secrets whether she wants to know them or not. Shutting out all these communications is difficult for her at times. Now she’s going to try for a job as a researcher in the Art appraisal company started by Otto Albrecht and her grandfather. It is now years since her father and grandfather mysteriously and dramatically disappeared whilst in Paris for the company - even with her psychic talents she hasn’t been able to find them. Her sister warns her to stay away from the company but she needs the job and maybe she can find out what happened to their father and grandfather! Gallery owner Blake Greenwood admits people in the art world aren’t always what they seem. He’s tall, dark and dangerously attractive as far as Adeline is concerned, their attraction is mutual and somewhat irresistible. Her gifts, however, warn her to keep away from him - should she listen to her head or her heart? She needs to decide quickly because in the fraudulent art world, mafia involvement and people who aren’t what they seem all threaten Adeline, even when she doesn’t realise her danger. This is well written with complex characters who reveal more of themselves as the story progresses. It is a great mystery with paranormal elements that make it enthrallingly different and captivating. With soul mates, vengeful spirits, a range of psychic abilities together with a possible romance this book has it all. Any fans of mysteries or paranormal romance are likely to be as enamoured with this book as I am. It does end but there are so many loose ends that I really hope there will be a sequel! Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I admit I was completely lost when I first started reading this novel. The author's very introspective style paired with so many elements introduced at once ( ghosts, past lives, psychometry, pushing thoughts ) left me somewhat struggling to sort it all out. I suppose if this had been my usual genre, I might have had less trouble, however, I was totally out of my element. Since Net Galley had offered me a free copy to review, I wanted to give the story a fair chance. I kept reading and found myself drawn to Addie and wondering how she would overcome the despair that was encroaching upon her life. Fortunately, after a few chapters, I had everything sorted out and was drawn into the story. Addie is gifted with the ability to touch objects and read their histories. This ability enables her to determine with just a touch whether art is authentic or a forgery. Someone desperately needs her ability and is willing to do anything to be able to use her. Blake is tasked with getting close to her and securing her cooperation. Since he has ulterior motives of his own to look after, he agrees. Once Blake meets Addie, everything changes. Sparks fly, and a deeper connection than should be possible is immediately evident. Blake immediately recognizes the origin of the connection though Addie does not. He makes it his mission to help her remember while protecting her from those who wish to harm or use her. Addie is sure she should not trust him, but can't resist the pull she feels even as she resists his efforts to push his will on her. A web of stolen art, missing people, and mafia connections make this story even more interesting. All in all, I ended up enjoying the story and rooting for Addie and Blake. This is the first book in a new series. Thankfully, it did not end in a cliffhanger. Many things are resolved, but plenty of little threads are still hanging out there to continue the story into the next book. I can't wait to see what happens.

The Fine Art of Deception was a lively, paranormal romance novel. I enjoyed the concept of “past lives” that was within the plot, and the fact that the two main characters were psychic was also intriguing. Throughout the novel, readers will see Addie’s definite growth into a more confident person, and her eventual coming to terms with her abilities and start to use them as a powerful asset. I thought the romance between Blake and Addie was sweet, even though they seemed to fall for each other instantly without knowing each other for very long. Usually I don’t like “insta-love” in novels”, but this couple’s relationship made sense since they already have a established “connection”. I also enjoyed the thriller aspect of the novel in which Addie goes to work for a art business, in order to find out what really happened to her grandfather. Otto hides his dark secrets and dirty dealings from the public, and it’s up to Blake and Addie to catch him in the act. The story ends at a good point and leaves loose ends leaving you wonder where the story will take off in the next novel.

I enjoyed the theme of past-lives interwoven throughout the plot. I've always found reincarnation intriguing. Addie was likable from the beginning, where the reader learns of her heartache and the betrayal she endured. I felt a connection to her immediately. I liked Blake as well and enjoyed the intense romance between him and Addie. It's been a while since I read a romance this steamy. They mystery was engaging and lots of suspense kept the pages turning. While I enjoyed the quick pacing of the second half, the first was a tad slower than I like. There was lots of backstory and info about the paranormal abilities to explain, which at times was tedious. Overall, I really enjoyed this novel quite a bit. Strong characters, a good mystery, and hot romance mixed with the supernatural make for a fun read. A caveat: In my opinion, this book is suited to ages 18+ due to the graphic sexual content.

Now, after finding herself out of a job, she contemplates returning to the art world and lands an interview with the family’s old business partner. But he seems to have his own hidden motivations about hiring her, setting off Adeline’s suspicions. Adeline has to figure out what is going on in her family’s old business, all the while being charmed by a mysterious art dealer who seems too good to be true. I liked that everyone in this story has their own deceptions and motives, it kept the story very lively. I especially liked how Adeline’s character was really built up well and her psychic abilities were really integrated well into her life and the story. This made it still come off as believable and helped create a really likable heroine. I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I received this book from Barclay Publicity in return for a fair and honest review. This is a contemporary paranormal romantic suspense book, complete with its own ghosts. Addie is a young woman who has seen enough of life's mysteries and betrayals to make her swear off men and her gifts. In return, all she wants is a 'normal' life. Part of her way of doing this is to try and get a job doing what she loves which just so happens to be in the Art world. Things are not what they seem in this book and you will follow Addie as she bounces along from one experience to another. I liked Addie but I also found myself to be quite exasperated with her too. The 'blind spots' that she kept going on about, plus the discussions between her heart and her head, just served to annoy me as she swung back and forth between one reason or excuse. The characters are all well developed and thought out, along with the plot. This book took me a while to get in as there is a lot going on with the current day storyline but then there is also a past life and reincarnation to contend with too. On the whole, this was an intriguing read that kept my interest until the last page. Very enjoyable and definitely recommended but you will need to keep your brain in gear. To start with I was unsure of this book, everything was thrown at you, art, the gift Addison has ghosts. I struggled a little to keep up. After a couple of chapters though I knew I would have to finish this book. It hooks you right in. I did enjoy it. My only feelings on it though was Addison did get on my nerves a little, she seemed so whiney in parts. This story has paranormal, romance, sexy leading male and a few sexy scenes. Well worth 4 stars Linda

Alyssa Richards artfully takes us on a journey with: Art, mystery, danger, intrigue, attraction, gorgeous characters, steamy sex, seeing through the eyes of a psychic, ghosts, past lives and Epic Love! (move over Rhett and Scarlet!) I was riveted! Read this book!

This book had an interesting mix of romance, mystery, and paranormal experiences. I am not naturally drawn to paranormal fiction, but found that this story was easy to get hooked on. I was engaged by the end of the second chapter and couldn’t wait to see how things would play out. The author took her time to develop her main character as she dealt with her “gift” of being able to know peoples’ stories and seeing the ghosts of people around her. Trying to hold a job or have normal relationships with others had always been difficult for Addie. The story starts as Addie interviews for a job with the art firm run by her father and grandfather before they disappeared. The motivations of their former business partner are suspicious from the beginning. This story was a real page-turner. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A romance novel with mystery and thousands and thousands of dollars in fine art to be stolen and reproduced makes you feel as you read, that this could happen all the time. I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review. This book was very interesting. The gifts described in this book were unlike any that I have read before. I don't know which would be more fascinating pushing or being able to touch and see the memories attached. This book really got me interested and kept pulling me in. I wasn't necessarily on the edge of my seat unable to put it down, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. But it had a unique quality to it and made me want to know more. Addie is definitely different, and so is her & Blake's story! Love to last numerous lifetimes, visions, ghosts, art, & mystery make this story intriguing, suspenseful, & emotional. I loved it, loved that while it was in a genre filled with many authors & books, it was wrapped in a veil of uniqueness. I can't wait for the next installment in the series! I enjoyed this book, I am not a romance novel reader, but this story had so many twists and turns, it kept me wanting to keep reading and see what comes at the end. I can't wait to read the next story, so I can see where the story is going. Good romance with a nice twist. It was good. A lot of small chapters but interesting enough to want to know what happens. A little more detail would've been nice but I will most likely read the next book. It was good.
