The sixth book in the Liam Quinn series from author L.H. Thomson, "Quinn & The Dead Man's Daughter", was a definite letdown from previous books in series. The plot was far too weak, and the characters stiff as cardboard didn't help very much either. It looks like when Quinn leaves Philly to work on a case the plot and action suffer. Thomson, "Quinn & The Dead Man's Daughter", was a definite letdown from previous books in series. The plot was far too weak, and the characters stiff as cardboard didn't help very much either. It looks like when Quinn leaves Philly to work on a case the plot and action suffer. An intervention at Quinn's parents house that included his finacee Nora, and the Garcia De Soria's made it clear the families were not happy with the direction Quinn was taking in his job as insurance investigator for Philadelphia Mutual Insurance. Too many fights, broken bones, and being too chummy with mobsters were leaving Quinn's family concerned he was headed on path to cemetery or prison. The infamous David Mince (Quinn's pretty much arch enemy) - has placed a contract on Quinn's head. So, the families pack up Quinn and Nora and send them to Palm Springs for a ten day "vacation". There a retired Philly cop Harry, a long time friend of Quinn's father was putting the couple up for free in a property he managed. Naturally Quinn isn't in town for four hours and he's dragged into a missing persons case. Missing was a daughter of recently deceased Russian Mobster, who was also a long time Hollywood B picture film producer/ maker. The dead man, Mickey Shore's estate was estimated at $700 million. The entire estate was going to go to his youngest daughter Cameron, 18. With a collection of ex-wives, and several bratty adult children who've been living high on the hog off Mickey for decades, money and motive are key. Did Mickey have heart attack at 78 and die naturally or was he murdered ?. Mickey was orthodox Jewish and was buried right away, no autopsy. Quinn is hired by oldest son Peter to track down missing Cameron , and get her safely to reading of the will in five days. At $1K a day plus expenses, Quinn is tickled with deal. Story comes complete with a gay mafia, very shallow family figures, and a very dumb ending very easy to see coming for most of book. Keeping all the goofy names was too tough to create an enjoyable read. Sadly this outing was weak. Quinn's character is too flat. Nora's attitude towards Quinn and his case is way out of character. I guess they all can't be five stars books. This one was an okay three stars out of a possible five stars. (I'm being too nice actually). Quinn's relationship with Nora is getting annoying with each passing book. It's too clunky- Marry her or go separate ways. Pick one ! Not the best book of series to date, but a very quick reading 210 pages. In baseball terms it was a weak at bat.

I keep giving five stars to each Quinn story I read because every time I am thoroughly entertained. They are always good plots with descriptive backgrounds, great characters (especially Quinn's family and Nora) and I love the humour. This book continues with the good work. Quinn is going on holiday ! Does this mean there will be no crime to get involved in ? With a sigh of relief I discover this is not the case. I wasn't sure who was guilty until near the end. very good 👍👍👍👍👍 This is the sixth book I have read by him and thoroughly enjoyed them. Intriguing plot, some humor, interesting characters and unexpected ending. All without loads of crude language and extreme bloodshed which diminishes a good story

Yeah yeah I know it's dry heat..... Another tight, as my bra, plot. Family troubles have a familiar ring to Quinn, so let's jump in the middle of a totally dysfunctional one in Palm Springs. Nora's thinking R n R and vacation; so was Quinn until ding, ding, damsel in distress signalled round one for this old boxer. Real good fun... Yeah yeah I know it's dry heat..... Liam Quinn strikes again LH Thomson always has a good story to tell; however, his/her editor needs to be fired and s/he needs to find someone who can proofread. All the little grammatical mistakes in every book get very distracting

Another great Quinn murder mystery. Another book that sorely needs a good proofreading. Get it together, LH Thompson.
