Maggie needs to sit back and take a look at her life, the pressures of college, the rift with her family, they’ve become too much. Her first meeting with the handsome groundskeeper is less than stellar, but she finds she can’t get those eyes out of her mind. Her first meeting with the handsome groundskeeper is less than stellar, but she finds she can’t get those eyes out of her mind. Aaron is also new to the area and not well-liked, which seems unusual to Maggie, as he is so kind-hearted and caring. Why has she been warned to steer clear of this amazing man? What is his secret? Speaking of a mystery, who is this recluse that offers her home to two strangers to care for, sight unseen? There is always gossip in small towns, and rumors that abound, but Ms. Deveraux seems to be keeping her own secrets, too. Three people, three close-held secrets, two hearts learning to beat for one another, will small town gossip and their own secrets tear them apart? Too many mysteries, not enough answers as A Summer Romance by Tracey Smith sets the stage for more additions to this new romantic mystery series. What started as a warm romance is evolving into an intriguing mystery as Stacey Smith weaves her tale, and the intricate knots get bigger and bigger along the way. Her style is warm, inviting and after the initial world building, which I might add is amazing, the story unfolds each layer, only to show another, slightly different layer below. An incredible job of building up to the ending with several knots left just loose enough to hang on to for the next book in this series! I was hooked on the romance, but as the mystery started to build, I was ready to be reeled in! I received a review copy from the author in exchange for my honest review. Maggie had everything planned out since she was a child, go to college and become a doctor. But even the best laid plans sometimes don’t work out. Maggie’s ready to flee Boston and when she sees an ad in her dorm, she heads down to Georgia for a carefree summer and to watch Devereux Manor for the summer. When she arrives she’s in awe. Beautiful home, small inviting town, oh and a sexy gardner named Aaron. Right away, Maggie is drawn to Aaron in a way that she’s never been drawn to a man. With all Maggie had everything planned out since she was a child, go to college and become a doctor. With all her carefully laid out plans, finding a man was never in the equation. That all changes when she lays eyes on Aaron. Aaron is funny, handsome, and caring, but right away he’s quick to tell Maggie that he’s not good for her. Maggie can’t figure out why he’s trying so hard to stay away from her, that is until she befriends a town native, Andi. Andi knows everything about everything, that’s what happens when you grow up in a small town and while she doesn’t know exactly what Aaron has done, he’s an ex con. Aaron thinks he’s not good enough for Maggie, Maggie doesn’t care what he’s done in the past, all she knows is that she’s drawn to the man who has work for Ms. Devereux for the past couple of years and that lives in the converted barn on the property. Maggie is quick to dismiss what the town’s people say about Aaron after she spends enough time with him to get to know the real Aaron. But as the summer starts to come to a close, Maggie has a decision to make. Does she return to Boston and continue her quest to become a doctor or does she stay and see where things are going with Aaron? As her summer continues on, she starts to uncover things about Ms. Devereux and wants to learn as much as she can about why she was brought to Georgia after she discovers that Aaron was also brought in by Ms. Devereux. Who is this lady that no one has seen in years? Is she even real or has the past on and others that work at the manor keeping up appearances at the manor? What’s in the forbidden east wing? There are so many questions that make up the mystery surrounding Devereux Manor, can she discover them all before it’s too late? I’ll be the first to say that I’m not a HUGE fan of mystery. I usually prefer erotica or NA/contemporary novels so I was surprised to find how much I enjoyed this novel. I loved watching Maggie try to discover herself especially since she’s always had herself stressed out and solely focused on school. As soon as she steps out into that small town, she discovers that what she once wanted is not what she wants now. Aaron was a great character in this story. With such a hurtful past and so many people against him living in the town, he managed to look past all the hatred the town had towards him and still be a kind, caring person in the end. I have to admit that I expected to find a novel with only hand holding and was surprised to find this novel was pretty steamy at some points. I cannot WAIT until the next novel in this series, I’m sure it will be just as great as the first novel. 5 stars!!! ***Complimentary copy provided by author in exchange for a honest review***

Ok so the good bits... • I love a good mystery!! • Maggie, her character evolved and grew. • Aaron what a hottie with a tragic back story. And the not so good bits... • I need the next book like NOW!! I wasn’t sure what to expect in this book, the blurb is defiantly elusive and like the rest of the book it has an edge of mystery to it. To say that I have been completely sucked in by this book would be the understatement of the year!!! I devoured it in one go in a matter of hours, I literally couldn’t put it down A Summer Romance manages to be both a romance and a Scooby Doo style mystery book and I mean that it has twists and turns that you would never expect. I loved both Aaron & Maggie they are from very different backgrounds and are brought together by a weird twist of fate or at least they think so. I love the fact that even though Maggie is from a rich family and had a lot of privilege she was just as lonely as poor Aaron. He spent years in a juvenile detention centre after killing his step-father to protect his younger sister. I really hope that Mrs Devereaux gets involved and finds Aarons sister for him!! The level of intrigue in this book is what transforms it from an average everyday romance book into a brilliant mystery that had me on the edge of my seat. For once in my life I love the fact that this book left so many questions unanswered, who is Aaron to Mrs Devereaux , why did she bring both Aaron & Maggie to the manor and what on earth is going to happen next. I love that this whole book has a small town feel, everyone knows everyone else’s business and yet Mrs Devereaux still manages to stay a complete enigma. Andi is brilliant and I’m so glad that she became friends with Maggie they bounce off each other really well and I loved their banter. The dude attacking Maggie came completely out of left field for me, I totally want expecting that and I’m hoping that his actions are going to be explained in more detail in the next book, who was it that told him to get rid of them, and what is in the mystery file???? I loved Maggie and I really enjoyed how the author developed her character, the longer she was at the manor the more confident she became. I soooo was not expecting her to be a bit of a sex kitten though and I was super impressed that she seduced Aaron. Overall I loved this book, I loved Aaron & Maggie and I can’t wait for the next book to find out what’s going to happen next.

Original review can be found at http://kristineandterri.blogspot.ca/2... I received a copy of this book directly from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank You! Let me start off by saying that this is not the first book by Smith that I have read so I was extremely excited to dive into this book and see if I enjoyed it as much as the last one. The synopsis captured my attention and I prepared myself to get lost in the pages. It is like you are getting a two for one deal with this book. You get the steamy romance along with a suspenseful mystery all wrapped into one easy to read and engaging story. This pleased me because I enjoy both genres and they molded together flawlessly. The story begins when Maggie answers an ad to look after Deveraux Manor for the summer and gets the job. She travels from Boston to small town Georgia thinking that it is the answer to all her problems. She is running from her past. Little does she know that she is not the only one there and is pleasantly surprised when she meets the hunky groundskeeper Aaron. The early chapters deal mostly with the development of Maggie and Aaron's relationship. They both have scars and secrets from their past but they can't seem to resist the chemistry that they so obviously have. The pages heat up (a lot) as their relationship grows but is their past too much for them to overcome? This in itself would be enough to keep you glued to the pages but there is more... Who is this mysterious Ms. Devereaux that they both work for but have never met? What secrets does she hold and was it a coincidence that Maggie found the ad outside her dorm? Are the rumours about her true? What is with the strange happenings in the house and who is in the black car that Maggie keeps seeing? Clues are discovered and some questions answered as the story progresses but not all of them. As much as I love a good love story I found myself drawn to this aspect of the story the most. I was dying to find out the secrets behind the Manor. Be warned...you will not get them all in this book. The book ends before everything is solved and there is a sequel. The next instalment in the Devereaux Manor Mystery series is called A Winter Wedding. I can't wait! It has a tentative release date of December 2014. I think I have an idea of how it will play out and what the mystery is but I won't know for sure until I get my hands on it. Over all I really enjoyed this book as I did with the last one I read by Smith. I have definitely found a new author who's work I will be following.

Onto the review. Like I said I adored this book. I liked how I was instantly pulled into Maggie's story from page one when she's driving in a sh*t car to the unknown and talking to her pet fern, Fred. I liked the mystery surrounding the manor and how that mystery seemed to be woven into everything in the setting. Or maybe it was just me that found that LOL. I always find old plantation homes set in the south to have an air of "suspense" and like it's holding secrets ;) But mostly, I ADORED the relationship between Maggie & Aaron. I enjoyed the pace that it developed because it wasn't painstakingly slow, but it kept me on my toes and wanting it to progress. Aaron's back story was devastating and the way he's been treated in this small town is heartbreaking - especially because he's such a sweetheart. Long story short, I'm so excited for the next book in the series to come out because I NEED to know more about the manor and the mysterious Ms. Devereaux! Pick up the book ladies (or gentlemen) because it's such a romantic ride!

Combine this with her down to earth yet extremely picturesque descriptions I feel like I’d stepped into the South myself. The characters definitely make this novel. Don’t get me wrong, the storyline was phenomenal but the people really make you love them. Right from the first page the author makes it so easy to understand the main character; her thoughts, her feelings, her actions. As a reader you’re able to form a connection with her. I admire the fact that she’s willing to go the extra mile to change the things that she isn’t happy with. The male lead is a bit of an enigma that you can’t help but fall for. He is genuine yet mysterious all at the same time. He’s also an alpha male without it being outright apparent & in your face. Add to this the fantastic supporting cast that make you feel just as welcome as (at least one of) the main characters did and you will feel like this is your new home. Overall this was a fantastic read that I couldn’t put down for a second. If I had to come up with something that I didn’t enjoy about the novel it would be the fact that it ended and now I have to wait for the next instalment. I’m dying to know how this mystery ends. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense but will warn you that there’s a bit of a cliffhanger. Ms. Devereaux Maggie and Aaron each have a role to play at Devereaux mansion. What they weren't expecting was falling in love. He's an ex con and she panicked out of med school. I just loved this book! It was an interesting story, and the characters were great. I am such a sucker for characters like Aaron--a good guy at heart who is forever labeled as a bad guy because of the extreme measures he went to protect his sister. When Maggie first arrives at Devereaux Manor it all seems too goo to be true. The house is beautiful, the town is inviting and the sexy gardener promises to make this a summer she won't soon forget. But the more she learns about the elusive Ms. Devereaux the more she begins to wonder why she's been brought to the small town of Sweetwater, Georgia. I really liked the characters and the story overall. Great romance between Aaron & Maggie. The plot seems incomplete with the little unsolved mystery at the end. If you like cliffhangers in sequels then you'll love the ending, but I hate cliffhangers. I really wish the story had wrapped up what was going on with the strange man at the end and what was going on with all of that. If I say more I'd spoil the ending so I'm stopping there.
