A beautiful and happy ending. I felt that i have grown up and grown old with the characters. The quartet starts in the 1820s and ends in the 1860s. It is interesting how Charlotte could still get pregnant which she is almost 50 yrs old.

Final story in this twisted love story. Still intrigued. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, eagerly awaiting each new novel as I could get hold of them.

I loved this book! I could not put this one down as I was desperate to see what would happen! This book was no less of an emotional roller coaster than the other 3! The maturity and development of the characters and story was great to read. Charlotte was just as frustrating with her stubbornness of revealing the truth and unfortunately it wasn't just Alexander that was affected. I thought the ending was perfect but it made me want to read more as there was not complete closure for all the characters - maybe a small spin-off series with Alexander and Adam as the main protagonists? It was great to read about Singapore in the 1800's and the thorough research the author did was shown throughout the quartet. The author's writing matured through the 4 books and this, I felt, was reflected well within the text and characterization. I would highly recommend 'The Straits Quartet' to anyone who has an interest in historical fiction and life in the far east.

this is the last book of the series. a well researched series. i would like to thank the author for writing this series. we need more of such book to record down the history though the characters are fictional only. the tradition of the nyonya baba community and a lot mire are recorded down here. am surprised at some to read some of the things here that i heard when i was a child . it kinda refreshed my kemory. the only diwn side is Charlotte. it seems that she can easily transfer ger affection. o this is the last book of the series. a well researched series. i would like to thank the author for writing this series. we need more of such book to record down the history though the characters are fictional only. the tradition of the nyonya baba community and a lot mire are recorded down here. am surprised at some to read some of the things here that i heard when i was a child . it kinda refreshed my kemory. the only diwn side is Charlotte. it seems that she can easily transfer ger affection. overall..this series is a good read. love it

Of the 4 books this last one was definitely the most pacey. Once again I am amazed at how quickly Charlotte decides to marry someone, always while pregnant with yet another of Zhen's babies... As I said after the first book though if you like historical fiction and live in Singapore then these books are great and the rest isn't too bad either. I enjoyed this last series of the Red Thread series set in 1860s Singapore but not as much as the first three volumes. It seemed to be written to tie up loose ends with more loose ends at the end for a final volume. Maybe another will follow?
