Three young women are murdered in as many weekends after being picked up at Newcastle nightclubs. Each is killed in a motiveless, copycat attack leaving police with no clues and no leads. For local newspaper crime reporter, Mick Rogers, it is the story of a lifetime but for the detective leading the inquiry, Simon Sharpe, it is a nightmare he seems unable to stop. A cracking thriller that I would recommend as a pacey holiday read. This book stand out from a crowded market thanks to the author's insight into the way the media works. The interaction between the local reporter, his media rivals and police sources is entirely convincing and adds an extra layer to the crime plot. There is no judgement or moral high-ground taken over how the journalists and cops do their jobs - it's simply a realistic portrayal. The ending (though a little abrupt for me) was satisf A cracking thriller that I would recommend as a pacey holiday read. The premise of the story is a good one. Both police and media trying to locate a serial killer. I enjoyed it, it was a safe read - my one criticism is that at times the dialogue seems too contrived and unbalanced. Each chapter just rolls along. Maybe I've been reading stories with too many cliff-hangers. This is not to spoil the story though just what I felt. The author deserves credit for building suspense as the plot unfolds and there are some nice insights into the workings of the press. Will The premise of the story is a good one.
